ART Zdirect 1-channel Passive Instrument Direct Box Reviews

High-quality Passive Direct Box with Low Noise, Input Attenuation, and Phase Shift Switches

The ART Zdirect Professional Passive Direct Box is a high-quality totally passive interface that lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input thru a high performance audio isolation transformer. Its high impedance single-ended 1/4" input is converted by the transformer into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. The Zdirect has an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low-impedance output. This gives the Zdirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments.

It does the thing!

By Frank from St. Louis on January 18, 2023 Music Background: Bedroom studio engineer, drummer, writer and producer.

For $40 US, not bad whatsoever! If you're just tracking in a bedroom studio, it does the job nicely. However if you're planning on using your DI in a live situation, either on extensive tours or just as a weekend warrior… perhaps some of the Radial stuff will be much more rugged and sturdy for those needs.

second one

After being extremely pleased with the first ArtZ purchased 8-10 months ago, I purchased a second one. Does as advertised

Simple, Effective, Perfect for Me

By Gilbert K. from Atlanta, GA on March 28, 2015 Music Background: Bassist, Songwriter

The ZDirect was exactly what I needed: a way to get my guitar rig hooked up to my mini-mixer and computer. Everything sounds great and set up took about 10 seconds. I was surprised to find that this little guy feels very solid for only a $25 dollar item.. In a world of plastic this DI has a great metal casing that feels plenty durable. A few switches on the box for certain scenarios, which is a great addition, but even without that this box sounds great.

Shipped quickly and even arrived before the estimated time. Will NOT be doing business with anyone but Sweetwater from now on! Great service and very friendly staff kept me updated from the time I placed my order to the moment it arrived, even for such a small order! Thank you Sweetwater, you've earned a new fan.

Tame that Active Bass

By Chris Boehlke from Waterford, NY on August 3, 2021

I use an Eden WTDI box and it doesn't include a -15db pad.

Using my Ibanez SR505 with Bartolini American MK Soapbars with Bartolini HR-5.0AP/918 preamp
I was easily overmodulating the input and needed something to tame the beast and give me some headroom.

This box did the trick and allows me to dial in the gain on the WTDI past "1.5/10" and dial in the tone I need without any hiss or buzz.

Great Piece of gear

Always a good idea to have a couple DI boxes on hand, and these are good quality boxes. I keep a 1-channel and a 2-channel on hand for dealing with unbalanced inputs to our system. These have a ground lift button, input attenuation, and phase shift as well, which is very handy. Great price too.

GREAT DI !

By JT from Upper Mid Missouri on September 11, 2020 Music Background: Pro Sound for 50 years. Also, guitarist since 1964.

I have six of these units and have used them in pro situations for over 10 years. Always works, no issues and has solved many different hook ups. Frequency response is accurate and this unit is sturdy for certain !

Great little box for simple applications..

By Bart from Saint Louis, Mo USA on February 22, 2012 Music Background: Pro guitarist

I'm using this with my Boss rc3 loop pedal. I send it right into our soundboard at gigs. Works perfectly for what I'm asking it to do. I would probably drop more cash on a pricier box if it was for a primary instrument like bass, acoustic guitar, keyboard etc. But for a looper, it's great. Small too, fits right on my pedalboard. For the price.. can't beat it!:)

Good Value

I was nervous about buying a direct box that was so inexpensive. After using it, I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely recommend this box to anyone looking for an inexpensive

ZDirect Box

By Barry Craig from USA on October 29, 2012 Music Background: extensive

Plug and Play whoweee and zero problems. But, how much would it be better not to have protruding plastic switches on it though? I'm waiting for the first one to get broken off accidently.

Pad buttons are bad

By Sparky on May 16, 2022 Music Background: DMA in Classical Guitar

Brand new out of the box, the attenuation buttons don't engage well. Sound in and out, crackling when using them. If you're not using those, the phase and ground switches work great, and the box itself works just fine. I just bought it off another retailer because I could get it in time for a gig after another DI box quit. I don't really need the pads on the box, as I have EQ controls on my mixer, so it will do the job for me. But I'll be replacing it with a better DI box after this gig.

Artcessories Zdirect

Sorry; This direct box failed after only 10 gigs. I kept it in a padded case and carried it in hard side gig suitcase. Just up and quit on me, Cannot recommend it
