Was great with traditional cane reeds, but Came ALIVE with BARI reed Medium Star. Wow.
Nice, inexpensive tenor mouthpiece
This is an easy-to-play mouthpiece with good overall sound quality. It's on the bright side and the tone is somewhat thin. That being said it would be a good choice for a new sax player. It plays well with a variety of reeds, including Van Doren Jazz Green box and ZZ Jazz. Plus the price point is very very reasonable.
I use it when I get tired to continue playing and to test some harder reeds. My primary mouthpiece is a Jody Jazz 6 which takes more effort to tame. So the Yamaha is a goood alternate for me. I've been imitating John Coltrane and Paul Desmond for 7 years now!!
Just an opinion
I haven't played sax in about 50 years. Just picked up a Conn 10M in great condition. I bought this as a starter to see if I would enjoy playing before investing in a better mouthpiece.
It is very nicely made, and I was able to feel like I was back in the groove after just a few practice sessions. It will take a while to build up my mouth muscles.
When playing, I feel I am not able to get enough air through the mouthpiece. Could be just me, but I think a larger opening would work better for me.
