FANTASTIC!
In love is an understatement. Going to be purchasing other processors soon.
Great comp
This thing is great. Extremely versatile clean pristine signal that enhances the sound. Make up gain sounds awesome too. Easily one of my first choices for anything in the mix. A great choice for mastering and mix bus as well. This is like the waves R comp of the analog world lol.
The xpressor rocks!
I've been using the xpressor on the mix bus for about a year now with good results. It's got some interesting and useful features, and it sounds great. Hard to find anything else to compete with it at this price.
Does it all quite well.
I've had it on the master, drums, synths, vocals -- pretty much everywhere. There was never a place that I didn't get a sound I wanted. While it's true the device has a particularly clean sound, there's something about it that kind of puts a 'halo' on everything, for better lack of explanation, a slight hifi sweetening is what I hear.
The SCF, GRL, MIX, and warm button are some honorable mentions that others have also gone into great detail explaining. Truthfully makes this thing bend audio with ease.
Now days I'm using it for tracking and pairing it with my great river. Compliments it very well.
I sold quite a few pieces of hardware last year for lack of use, but I kept this one.
G.O.A.T
It's amazing… it's hands down the best compressor in that price range and I would put it against anything above.
It is extremely well designed, starting with its true stereo design which makes it perfect for mastering, the variable SCF, GRL and MIX functions make this compressor incredibly flexible and that's what I love about it, there's just nothing I can't do with it.
It's truly a perfect unit to me, I can't recommend it enough
Versatile
I use it for mastering exclusively, I knew great Mastering Engineers who have it in their studios, and I had a record mastered with it so I knew it was a great choice.
It's extremely versatile, it can be gentle, or it can bite if you want it too obviously, the only thing I do not use is the Warm option, but it's mostly because by the time I get to the compressor it means I am 100% satisfied with the EQ, specially the low-end.
Other than that it's PERFECT for mastering, just for the fact of being true stereo, it's already worth it, however every feature is absolutely amazing, I could go one by one but I want to address two in particular that are not found virtually anywhere else:
Adjustable SC: this is one of the greatest things about this compressor, it allows me to really push the signal whole keeping the punch and the groove, some devices have a fixed SC, but this simply works sooooo much better because you can really pick a sweet spot
GR Limit: I don't use it all the time, I guess because I don't find myself being really aggressive regularly, but I've had to use it a few times and it is a game changer.
Every feature adds to the versatility of this device and I can't stress out how glad I am I went for it
I give it 4.5 just because I wish the knobs were more precise, even though they are stepped and that helps, they could be a little better that's my only critique honestly.
Great an clean sound
This is a great sounding unity, but since its my first outboard compressor I was expecting more of a character but this one delivers a clean and punchy type of compression. I find it great for plucked synths, percussion, drums, good for low male voice, it has a lot of punch and it is hard to drive it to distortion, I can get 15db of gain reduction on the mix bus without it distortion.
Overall great unity for what it does.
