Returning this product

By Andrea L. from Philadelphia, PA
Music Background: Professional violinist.

I'm very disappointed, as I expect more from a Sennheiser product. The biggest issue is the static. We had to play without the IEM because it was so distracting. The second issue is that you only have 12 seconds to choose a new frequency before it defaults back to the original. So if you're walking around the room checking the signal, you'd better do it quickly. The last issue is that unless you are actively adjusting settings, the screen goes completely dark. You can't just glance down to see the data; you have to wake it up again.

Essential equipment for loud sound stages

By Albert B. from Sacramento, CA
Music Background: Variety rock band in Sacramento, non-professional.

I was frustrated by pitch problems and strain in my voice, and could hear it in recordings of our full-volume rock band. With no band or quiet band setting, no pitch problems. My voice was hoarse for days after a session too.

My gut feeling was I couldn't hear myself, and this new XSW system confirmed it! Talk about a game changer? Now I actually like our recordings. After 4 hrs of singing, I don't want to stop! Way less strain!

We're as small-time as a back porch band can get. We play for fun and friends, no gigs, so for a two singer, two receiver IEM setup is no small cash outlay. Turned out to be worth it.

Setup was really easy, just used the monitor section of our mixing board. I can now hear my voice over the loud drums and guitar amps. At first, I set it up in stereo mode, which sends both receivers the same signal, but when harmonizing, I found it hard to hear my own voice. So I switched the mixing board into mono mode (groups), and the XSW receivers into 'Focus' mode. This lets you put, say, one singer in the right group, and my mic and my keyboard into the left group. Then in my XSW receiver, swing the L-R balance left to hear me, right to hear the other singer. You can adjust how much of the other singer you want to hear with that balance. It may sound complicated, but it's not.

I only gave this 4 1/2 stars because this is the first IEM system I've used, so I don't really know if it's THE 'BEST'. Local shops do give Sennheiser top ratings. If the included headphones were halfway decent I'd have given this setup 5 stars, but they're not. They suck. Everyone knows it, and the Sweetwater rep told me up front you'll need better headphones.

As for people that said these have interference, I've had no problems with that at all. The frequency it was on out of the box was clean. I searched for other clean channels and found many, tried a few, they all worked very well, nice and quiet.

Sound Quality Issues

By Nick from Kansas
Music Background: 20+ years, weekend guitar player/singer

Our expectations for this unit was it is an entry level system but the sound quality was too much to handle. The RF signal was not an issue but the background and white noise was so intense that it made this unit unusable. I hate to say it but spend a little more and get a better system. Sweetwater treated us great as always and worked to exchange for a better system that we know works fantastic. Also, it has rack mounting and a spot for a front antenna but does not come with a cord or adaptor for that application. You will need to purchase that separately.
