Tuned to D Kurd
This handpan is hand-tuned to D Kurd. A diatonic minor scale and close cousin of the Western Phrygian mode, D Kurd hails from Arabic music units and sequences known broadly as Magam. D Kurd sports a dual identity that echoes natural minor scales but can also take on the characteristics of Arabian music thanks to the Magam Kurd sequence beginning on the pan's second lowest note. While Arabic in origin, the Kurd scale is also appears in western styles such as Flamenco which means its familiar but hardly mundane.
