Great guitar but with issues [UPDATED]

By Matt O'Connor from BROOKFIELD, CT on January 25, 2024

ORIGINAL (2 1/2 STARS): This is a tough one to write as it has already gone in for warranty service because the neck keeps coming loose. First time ever I had to take a guitar in for a warranty issue. Knowing where it is built, the cost and how long the wait is, that is unacceptable. Other knock is the case is pure gimmick and nothing more than a POS (again the price?).

As for what is good about - EVERYTHING ELSE. The look, feel, sound are really amazing. I did "fret" over SS vintage frets but adjusted to them in no time (almost want to convert other guitars to same fret wire). This would be a pure 5 star guitar but knowing it is $$$ and severe problems within 3 months does not bode well. Will readjust the review if done right by Fender. We will see!

UPDATE: Sent the guitar back to Sweetwater, they did a setup and held it for a few days. However, upon getting it back the neck started to move again within minutes of playing. Returned it to Sweetwater once again and was sent a replacement guitar a month later. The new guitar had the same exact issue. Only option was either to return for full refund or find someone to fix. Ended up taking the guitar to a well-respected custom guitar luthier near me. He took a look and found the issue. Apparently Fender/EVH use metal shims between the neck and body, thus once warmed up the neck slides on the metal, no amount of tightening will keep it tight. He removed the shim and setup the guitar and FRT. Since then no issues and the guitar plays like a dream. Awesome guitar and would be 5 stars if not for all the initial issues with not 1 but 2 different guitars plus the extra cash to get it serviced.

NOTE: Sweetwater did a good job throughout the process, though in the end I needed to get it resolved elsewhere.
