EVH Wolfgang Special Electric Guitar - Ivory Reviews

My first electric guitar that I ever bought new was a Kramer. The difference between that guitar and this can not be overstated. This guitar looks classy, feels great, stays in tune, and has great humbucker tone. I love all sorts of guitars, but this one is definitely "special". If it had a second volume control and series/parallel switching, I would say it's perfect, but it is exactly what this guitar was meant to be. Well done, EVH and Fender!!

Like most of the folks who buy these guitars, I am a big fan of Eddie Van Halen. I didn't buy it to sound like him or for any other reason related to him aside from his contribution to make affordable and feature-packed instruments available to the masses!
This guitar is everything I expected. It feels a little small, but it is ultra playable and sounds tremendous!!
I'm in several projects and I needed something with a Floyd Rose that would allow me to drop tune on the fly.
The Floyd Rose is OK, it does the job, but the fine tuners feel a bit rough as is normal with these less expensive trems. I have guitars with Floyd Rose Soecials, 1000's, and Original. If Ibwhere this out I'll upgrade it them, but until then it will do just fine.
The Wolfgang pickups are amazing and can do clean, overdrive, and heavy tones very well. They are even twangy enough to do some Country with them, not quite like my Telecaster, but close enough!
This guitar is among my favorites and I am primarily a Jackson guitars player. I will definitely buy another in the near future!!

Worth the wait! These EVH Wolfgang Special Guitars sell out as quick as they come in and it's no wonder why. I had to wait a few weeks for my guitar to come in but man, this Ivory model is just beautiful (can't complain cause others wait months). The compound radius quatersawn maple neck and ebony fretboard is just amazing to play on and the Basswood body is the perfect weight combo with the neck (no breadstick effect). The D-Tuna system needed some minor adjustments and I believe it was because of the carved top which allowed for some backward movement of the Floyd Rose bridge but a call to David at Sweetwater's tech support and we were able to resolve the issue. Lastly, I'd like to put a word in about My Guy, you know everybody up here in North Jerseys got "A Guy". My sales rep, Joe Perrone is the best! I've been dealing with Sweetwater for many years now and Joe has been my sales rep and they're hasn't been one transaction where he hasn't gone above and beyond to help me with my orders!! I wanted to wait for a few weeks of playing this guitar to review it. Very well built instrument. Beautiful finish. Hardware is solid. The low friction volume and high friction pots are a very nice touch. The D-tuna, once dialed in, is a great feature. The pickups are sweet. They can be aggressive but dialing back the volume ever so slightly cleans up nicely. The neck feels outstanding. Very impressed and can't wait to gig with it.

This is an absolutely PHENOMENAL guitar. Truly. Outside of the EVH factor this thing plays like a guitar twice its price. Set up great by Sweetwater. The fretboard is SO smooth, the lack of finish on the back of the neck lets you fly around the neck, and the heavy body lets you take both hands off the guitar to the neck for tapping without the guitar moving on you. Tune it down to Eb and the strings just accept your fingers in a way none of my other guitars do. (I have an American Tele, Mexican Tele, Reverend PA-1, Wayne Kramer Strat, Airline Tuxedo and this is at TOP of the list in terms of quality.) The arch top ensures your will not scratch the beautiful finish with strumming or pick marks. And the finish was pristine. When I plugged in ****. The humbuckers have such a warmth and grit to them it made my Marshall head VERY happy. And the locking nut and D-Tuna works great. Bought a HexHider Tool for the nut but it RARELY needs a tuning.

I've read a few bad reviews on this guitar where it was damaged or split or cracked. I'm sorry for those buyers. I can only attribute that to bad luck. Cuz this thing is wonderful.

I bought this guitar just because I am a Eddie fan but for a $... this guitar puts out better sound than my $3000.00 Ibanez I'm just extremely happy with everything about this guitar buy one!

Why did I wait so long to try this guitar? I don't know! The guitar feels and plays great. The neck is very comfortable and can reach the upper frets with ease. The tone is fantastic. Very well built and solid guitar. So happy with this purchase! Thanks Sweetwater!

i have 4 wolfgangs including a usa model this one is my best 1 plays awsome right out of the box

I have a peavey wolfgang usa and more wolfgangs I had a earnie ball evh and this one for some reason plays the best I allways reach for this guitar it is awesome plays like butter

I highly recommend the additional pleck setup during the purchase. I played some of these in stores before ordering and found the fret ends were rough. The pleck process smoothed this out and really made a difference in the playability!

Not my first Wolf Special but definitely my favorite already. Like all Wolf Specials it plays silky smooth with an insanely comfortable neck but this one seems to be even better than usual. Been waiting for years for a white Wolf Special and this doesn't disappoint. The white body with chrome hardware and ebony fingerboard is the perfect combo and makes this a stunning guitar to look at. Overall EVH Gear/Fender hit it out of the park with this one. Big shout out to my Sweetwater rep Mason Moss for always being so great to work with.

Love it/fit very comfortable for me

I already owned a hardtail TOM MIJ model and sought this model to get the jumbo frets, Floyd Rose, Arch Top and D-Tuna. After having it professionally set up, it plays very nice. I really like the looks of the ivory with contrasting ebony finger board.

Pros:
Looks great
Fit and finish is very good
Comes with a lot of features
Arch top looks great

Cons:
The PUPs don't have the same punch/growl as my MIJ model despite many many shootout comparisons
I had to flip around the PUP selector switch so the bridge position was up like other Wolfs
It doesn't have the belly cut as in the description

All in all, it's a great guitar for the money but the MIJ Wolfgang I bought used gets played far more often.
