The BEST made Guitar ever made
The Best and I mean Beyond best made and playing guitar machine I have ever payed hands on. The craftsmanship is beyond perfection. The sound of the machine is Straight outta Tone heaven. I only have one small issue with this guitar. It's keeping it clean. That can be a bit tricky. But that's such a small issue. Give this guitar a try and you won't be disappointed.

Great Guitar
So hard to find a guitar I really love to play. The EVH Wolfgang Special-Stealth Plays great, looks great, sounds great! I love the feel and sound of this guitar.
Can't stop playing it. Highly recommended.
Untouchable guitar for the price
If your on the fence about this guitar
....just buy it
It's the best investment vs quality and performance guitar available in 2021
It is not for the beginner ,as it requires taking the time to final tweak in the action ,bridge ,intonation to suit your playing style weather it be a delicate type of player or a ham fist basher .
Once you have it go your liking ,it will stick with you like glue ,
The pickups are a revelation ,,due to the idea of changing wind and guage back and forth during the process of manufacture results in a overdrive tone that rings with harmonics in all the right places ..
And when clean retain all the chime and depth you would only achieve thru a different pickup .the choice of alnico 2 was genius it does the job in spades ...they live on the edge in either situation without ever tipping past the edge .
Fit and finish is exceptional .
Overall this is a an amazing instrument at anything even in the realm of the price .
My only gripe is the cost of a matching hardshell case ...an instrument with thus amount of research and mojo deserves to be included .
EVH the G.O.A.T - Great guitar-Great rep
Big shout out to my rep Ian Angle. One of the best Sweetwater has working for them. He has been my rep for years now. I had a few issues with the order but Ian worked thru it and delivered for me. That's why I order from Sweetwater.
This guitar is one of the best I have ever played. Mine came with a nice dark Ebony board. I had it pleked and it was totally worth it, intonation spot on. I got the case for it and it fits like a glove. It's nice to dive the trem and know your going to stay in tune. Eddie did such a great job designing this guitar. The D-tuna works perfectly too.
R.I.P Eddie we all miss you!
It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!
Eddie got it all right with this guitar. Fits like a glove. Plays like a dream.
Best guitar I’ve ever played.
I bought this guitar exactly one year ago when quarantine was just starting out. I have worked at a music shop for the last two years since I was 16. I've played hundreds of guitars that come and go in our store. Nothing even comes close to this wolfgang. It looks insanely slick and plays beautifully. The Wolfgang is indestructible. As Ferris Bueller said "if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
Best Guitar
I've been playing for years and bought one of these Wolfgang Specials about 5 years ago and I love It. Great quality and sound. I can't believe you can buy this level of quality at this low price. The guys at Sweetwater were great. Thanks Eddie, Fender, and Sweetwater. I am thinking about getting a EVH Striped Series but I like the Wolfgangs a lot!
Love It!
This is a really nice guitar. I can see now why they sell out of stock so quickly. Everything about this guitar screams quality. I love the neck especially. Very smooth and should get even better with use. It never gets that tacky feel like painted necks do.
It's the first Floyd Rose bridge that I've owned. Love the micro-tuners. Haven't changed strings yet but I know it is a little bit more involved.
I was a little hesitant about being a guitar without trying it, but all of the reviews were overwhelmingly positive.
I gave my sales guy, Paul Rowan a call to preorder one as they were out of stock. I told him I would like the lightest one that came in on the next shipment. Paul delivered as usual and I absolutely love the weight of the guitar.
Give Paul a call and order yours today!
Love My Wolfie!!!
Recently decided to pull the trigger on getting a new EVH Wolfgang Special Stealth Black model. I own 3 other Wolfgang models, 2 by Peavey, which are EXCELLENT as well in overall tone and feel. Also, have an EVH brand Standard model which isn't bad for the very low price. This is actually my first moderately priced EVH Wolfgang from the actual name brand of the actual artist. I gotta tell you, it definitely does NOT disappoint. When first picking up the guitar, I immediately could tell that the build quality was excellent and the neck was in alignment. The action was perfect for my touch as I have paws but the sound and tone, well, what can I say. Its an EVH Wolfgang...and it kicks major butt. The overall lows, the mids, and the highs were very well articulated and raunchy. The volume and tone control had very quick responses. The pickup selector is smooth when going through the pickup selections. All in all, a very AWESOME axe. Can't wait to use it live.
Awesome guitar!
Love this guitar. I actually have one of the wolfgang standards with the maple fret-board. I wasn't sure how much of a difference ebony would be but it's quite nice.
I was going to spring for the USA version but I didn't want to spend 3k and hate the vintage frets. The jumbos on this are fantastic and feel great on the ebony fingerboard. I could be wrong but these current models I believe have stainless steel frets which is a big plus as they won't wear out.
I'm still a beginner-intermediate player so I can't comment too much on deep specifics, but the main thing I wanted was a full sound, comfortable neck to shred, and for the harmonics to pop, and they do. Does everything I want it to and looks great doing it.
D-tuna took 10 minutes to set up and is good to go.
One of the best
Guitar plays and sounds grest, one of the best guitsrs I have played on in many years.
Absolutely Stunning!
If you want a very versatile guitar with stunning looks and a great price to match, look no further than the Wolfgang Special! When you compare this guitar with its USA counterpart it's really hard to tell a difference play and sound wise. The neck has a really great feel to it and the body is really comfortable. For the money you really can't beat this guitar. Thank you EVH and Sweetwater for the great jobs y'all do! Keep it up!
Stunning!
...After months of research on buying a new guitar, I chose the EVH Wolfgang Special (Stealth) Sweetwater had the best deal and 4 of them in stock. When I finally made my final decision and ordered, my sales person Chris Nunley called me immediately... and I was completely (once again!) blown away by the lighting fast service. I had the guitar at my home within 24 hours (next day delivery) I had a rehearsal with my band scheduled for that evening... I tuned it up, inspected it, plugged it into my Boss ME80, then into my Marshall JCM900 and this guitar was everything I thought it would be! The neck is amazing, frets- perfect to every last detail. Sound, sustain, clarity and punch were amazing. Now to mention a few things about other reviews I've read on this guitar: The pickups are excellent, they do not sound the same (as one reviewer had said) they both give you maximum benefits of each position. Pickup selector switch was not installed in the reverse manor that some said it was- the up position is the neck pickup, the down position is the bridge pickup. Now here is an added bonus! with the switch in the middle position, it sounds like a coil tap, more jangle, but with a more full lows. Beautiful! The Whammy bar: After stretching the strings enough, it works excellent! the D-tuna was something new for me and after figuring out how to engage it, it worked perfectly (there was a bit more string stretching before it was "right on" though. The weight of the guitar and the design of the body are wonderful. I played it no less than 5 hours the first night, and then for 2 more 3 hour rehearsals this week... it simply plays great and sounds amazing! I'm so thrilled! Thank you!
Simply the best we've ever played
The neck is perfect, it's lightweight and sounds amazing.
Amazing Guitar!
Solid all around guitar! I’ve been playing for 20+ years with all makes. I’m a Gibson and Ibanez player myself. This is most comfortable neck I’ve ever played with! Even better than the previous Peavey and EVH models. The Mexican models have a certain smoothness to them that is very hard to explain unless you play with them. Only think that comes close in terms of feel and tone is probably Music Man Guitars. I highly recommend this guitar to anyone seeking that solid rock-oriented guitar with a great, comfortable neck and star pedigree. Skip if...you need a subtler, more subdued tone. But, the most enjoyable experience I must say was dealing with the guys at sweetwater. My rep, Anthony was amazing. He was in constant communication with me. I was even sent pictures of it before it left their facility. These guys know what they are doing and they take care of you like if your were EVH himself. Kuddos guys \m/
Wolfgang Special Stealth
Awesome guitar. I was a little nervous about getting a made in Mexico but this is a prescision made instrument. The jumbo frets are great. The pickups are HOT. It's every bit a hot rod guitar, but it cleans up really nice too. Using the middle position on the pickup gives an out of phase sound. Love this guitar.
Great guitar
First off playability is wow carved top is gorgeous,,I can't say enough how perfect it is for me.Its the only guitar in my stable thats not a telecaster. Sweetwater had a perfect setup, made in Mexico by Americans.
My Go-To Axe
After playing countless guitars over 10+ years and never finding "The One", I finally went to the Rock Walk in Hollywood and stuck my hands in every famous guitarist's handprints to see which one was closest to mine. Eddie's was by far the best match, so I figured I'd give his sig axe a try. Best decision ever!! The neck fits my hands perfectly! Beyond that, the attention to detail and build quality are second to none, matching and even besting guitars 3x the price. I also love the locking nut and tailpiece on their early model hardtails (like mine). Makes tuning that much easier, and I know that if I ever need a nut job, all I have to do is stick a shim or two in the existing nut, rather than going through the hassle of replacing a traditional bone nut. And of course, the tone is every bit as eclectic and iconic as the brand's namesake. I have yet to meet the sound I can't nail with it.
The only things I'd change are the weight (a tad too heavy), the flat top and lack of forearm and tummy cuts, and the lack of 3 piece neck and carbon fiber reinforcement rods which would make the neck and intonation even more stable than it already is. If these things were changed, it'd be an easy 5 stars.
Great guitar!
Instant classic...one of the best guitars I've ever owned.
Sweetwater is without a doubt the premier online retailer
in the country.
Thanks again,
T.C from MI
EVH Wolfgang Special natural
It took a bit of time to arrive, but once it did it was set up great. Only minor adjustments on the Floyd Rose probably just because of shipping. Wish it had come with a case. Actually playing the guitar I HAVE to give it 5 stars. The pick ups are hot and brown clean or distorted. volume and tone knobs roll easily with your hand making your amp go crazy!!! The neck is fast and smooth like butter, basically it feels wonderful! The time of arrival and the case is my only issue, but when it shows up its worth the wait! Ordered a hard case little bit ago. Shred away!!! I know you will!!!
Long wait and it needed work but...
...it was playable out of the box and the action wasn't too bad. The bridge wasn't setup properly (ie not level with the body). Adjusting that lead to fret buzz near the nut. I opted to shim the nut in order to keep the action low. Nothing major, and the result was a fantastic playing guitar. My sales rep Chris was very helpful during the wait, always quick to answer questions and was very helpful when I told him about the issues I had with the setup and such.
The neck is silky smooth with highly polished jumbo frets and a thick slab of dark ebony. No sharp edges or unleveled frets. It's a great feeling/playing neck, very old school 80's Charvel/Kramer/ESP feel. The ebony fingerboard and matte black finish make it unique enough where you don't automatically think of Eddie when you see it. Tone wise, the things a beast. It's darker and heavier than I expected. The bridge PU has really good bite while the neck PU is a more smooth creamy tone. The bridge & hardware feel like quality parts, about what one would expect from a guitar in this price range. The retro knobs and low friction volume pot are a nice touch. The switch feels extremely heavy duty. I should note, it was wired standard (down is bridge, up is neck) not reverse like EVH claims. I am a bit disappointed it didn't come with a case or heavy duty gig bag. The EVH specials are in that price range where that sort of thing should be standard. It's a non-standard shape so finding a case may prove to be a pain and EVH doesn't offer one, just gig bags. I ended up buying an EVH hardshell off ebay.
Overall, it's a really nice guitar. It's a lot more versatile that one might think. You probably aren't grabbing this to play a jazz or blues set and that's not really what it was designed to do. It's perfect for everything from classic rock all the way to modern metal.
No more stainless steel
As the title states, the new Wolf specials from Mexico have nickel frets now, feels like bending on sandpaper to me but YMMV. Overall I'm glad they decided to switch to bigger frets and make it an archtop, but the stainless steel was a really big selling point for me. I've also noticed that they stopped using birdseye for the maple boards. Compared to the Chinese Wolf, nothing else really seems to be different, though it seems like the Mexico factory actually knows how to apply oil to the necks unlike the Chinese factory. No more frets poking out.
Good... not great
I've had this guitar for a few years now, but I just wanted to share my experience to maybe help anyone who experienced similar things. My biggest issues has been that the Wolfgang come stock with a 250k tone pot. I read somewhere that Eddie demoed close to a 100 pickups before deciding on these, and I could never figure out how that was possible. The guitar always sounded like thick gross mud... that was until I put a 500k pot in it. Now it does alright. It's not like my PRS or Les Paul, but I can get a nice enough tone out of it.
The guitar looks awesome, and its definitely original. It's very heavy in the body. The neck is a 25.5" scale, but it feels short because of the body/neck shape. I always shim or tighten down any floating bridge, and it comes with 9-42 strings I believe. However, it becomes a battle to do any alternate tunings with heavier strings. Currently, I have 10-52s on there in drop C, and the saddles are bottomed out to try and get it intonated. It's not perfect, but I don't think the guitar can take anything more in terms of heavier strings.
The frets need a little love too. I can feel every end of every fret running my hand down the neck. Overall, it's still a really cool guitar. These were just some of the issues I encountered. It fits comfortably in that $... price range. I enjoy my nicer guitars a lot more, and I think the EVH name accounts for an extra $200. If you love Eddie and want one of his guitars, then maybe you don't mind... Dollar for dollar though, I feel like there are a few manufacturers putting out a better guitar for the same price or maybe even a little less.
Nice guitar. TERRIBLE fretwork
Got this a few days ago; always wanted one and finally pulled the trigger. Had it shipped from Sweetwater in the EVH hardshell case. Let it sit in the box for 24 hours to acclimate, then pulled it out to play. Lovely guitar, well-built and sounds great. Only problem was that the fretwork was absolutely awful. Huge "fret-sprout"; the ends are so sharp and sticking out from the fretboard that they were shredding the skin on my hand after just a couple runs up and down the neck. Dead spots all over the neck as well. Action and neck relief are fine; just the frets aren't even close to level. The guitar is completely unplayable in its current state.
I'm debating whether to keep it and spend hours filing the frets, or just send it back. I expected better. Could buy an Ibanez RG550 Genesis MIJ for less and get immaculate attention to detail.
If I decide to keep it; will update this review when repairs have been made.
As always though; Sweetwater and Marcus Strout in particular are awesome to work with!
Get a different finish
The guitar sounds great. Very playable. My gripe is the matte finish. I came with a couple of surface scratches. All I did was rub gently with my finger to see if it would they would come out and it immediately slightly shined in that spot. I didn't send it back but however I can see this matte finish shining up in no time from playing it. I suggest getting a different color and finish. You can see in my picture what I'm talking about towards the bottom
An extraordinarily uncomfortable guitar
I debated between the Wolfgang and the Charvel So Cal. I wanted a surface mounted Floyd Rose and would have had to pay twice as much for the Charvel USA So Cal, which has the surface mounted Floyd.
It's difficult to just show up at a local music store and try a variety of guitars, because most stores have a limited selection of brands and models. So, I took a chance and ordered the Wolfgang online. It was a huge mistake.
First, the body shape is irritating. Think about where your picking arm rests on the body. Strat-style guitars have a curved surface. The Wolfgang has this to, but right at the edge the curve either abruptly stops and jets out or even rises a bit. The edge of the guitar irritates the inner portion of your forearm. If I strummed the guitar like Johnny Cash it would be fine, but that's not usually how I play. ;) ;) ;)
Second, the neck is very different than most modern guitars. My 1990's Jackson has a wide fret board (way too wide for me) and a super shallow neck depth. My 2000's modern Telecaster has a narrow fret board and a shallow neck depth, but no where near as shallow as the Jackson. The Wolfgang has a narrow fret board, like my Telecaster, but with a super deep neck that feels like a baseball bat. The back of the neck also feels a little off-center. I don't think that it's symmetrical.
Perhaps there are people who might like the Wolfgang neck. But I can't imagine anyone who would like the uncomfortable and irritating body that digs into your picking arm while you are playing.
I should have paid twice as much for the Charvel USA. And in fact, I'm going to do just that as soon as I post this review.
I gave the Wolfgang a high 1.5 review because the surface mounted Floyd is awesome. Otherwise, no thanks.
Don't believe the Hype
I've had a lot of problems with this guitar right from the start. The paint smudged off in the area where the pick guard would be. It's a nice size smudge and only took a couple of weeks of average playing time. Mabey I'll throw some primer on it ala joe strummer as it can't look much more terrible. I had to replace the trem unit (not the bar, the whole unit) as the bar would rattle so bad playing was impossible. The drop D tuna works mabey once or twice. After that it goes out of tune and stays there. My switch also had to be replaced because it wouldn't stay in the bridge position. I was told by evh tech the switch was discontinued. This guitar hasn't been out long and parts are being discontinued?. Found one on ebay.My luthier confirmed with me that the bridge and neck pick up sound almost identical. What's the point of that? The frets are stainless steel and won't wear out. not sure if that's a good thing.
I do like the compound radius neck and the pots but that's about it. I'm a big fan of Ed but this had to be said. Sorry Ed.
