If you're after the man's tone you need this. The MIM Wolfgangs come with a spec pickup that's noisy, flubby, and way too loose. Installed this and it's like night and day. Nice upper mids and very balanced. 100% worth it. The photo is the spec pickup you don't want for reference. The American pickup is absolutely phenomenal.

Tone like NO other pickup. Everything and more than I expected.

These EVH Wolfgang Pickups are perfect for my EVH Wolfgang Guitar, and most likely many others. They look great and performed with the clarity and performance I was looking for over the stock Korean pickups I had in it before, not muddy even on the Bridge pickup!

I bought this a few years ago, and glad I hung on to it. Having finally gotten an old Marshall plexi type amp, I realized over many demos, that Alnico II magnets sound best through it when cranked up.
So... I dug this out of the bin of pickups, popped her in and BLAM!!! One of the best sounds yet!
Great bite, great overtones, great output, great definition that sustains out into a solid sweet roar..
I alternate pick quite a bit, and this delivers. Legato? No Problem.
The Alnico II magnets and the wind are a masterstroke for this type of sound. Yep, still sound like me.
Through a pushed tube amp, this pickup cuts through with smooth vintage like vibe.

Tone is subjective, but both the bridge and neck EVH Wolfgang Humbucker pickups (I have both bridge and neck installed) are just monsters at producing thick, rich, penetrating tone. My first quality electric guitar was a Les Paul Custom. I loved the guitar, but after purchasing the first production run of the Fender-made EVH Wolfgang, I didn't think much about my LP Custom. The LP's tone was very thin by comparison, with the stock Gibson humbuckers.

Well, I started to experiment with different pickups with the hope of having two killer sounding electrics that would earn equal playing time. I went through a couple sets of pickups to no avail. I then purchased the EVH pickups from Sweetwater and had my local luthier once again do the installation.

The guitar is so wonderful sounding to my ear now, with a significantly thicker and richer tone than before. It could be that the lower output pickups match better with my amps (EVH 5150 50W/2x12 Cab or Marshall DSL15C 1x12 Combo). Regardless, the EVH pickups have saved my beloved LP Custom and I now have two great electric guitars that are getting equal playing time.

I couldn't afford a real Wolfgang, although I have Musicman AX40, I installed the Wolfgang bridge pickup and it sounds killer!!
