DigiTech Whammy Ricochet Pitch Shift Pedal Reviews

Pitch Shift Pedal for Guitar

The DigiTech Whammy is legendary. Unfortunately, it takes up a lot of pedalboard real estate. The DigiTech Whammy Ricochet pitch shift pedal changes that. Instead of a bulky treadle, you control Whammy Ricochet with its momentary footswitch. And it's ridiculously easy: customize independent rise and fall time ballistics, hold down the footswitch, and dive-bomb to your heart's content. Seven selectable pitch intervals and a Range toggle switch provide you with plenty of tone-bending options. The guitarists at Sweetwater have had a blast re-creating their favorite classic Whammy pitch-shifting sounds with the DigiTech Whammy Ricochet. We've dreamed up a few new ones, too!

Kik-chow!!!

By Mason Patton on April 16, 2022 Music Background: Been messin’ round for over 35 years

I'm using this on one side of a split signal to imitate some Allman Brothers riffs. Works great. Make sure you have room for a 300mA pedal on your power supply.

Wacky, wabe-able, arm flailing FUN!

It's an awesome pedal, 2nd time buying this exact pedal since I sold the first one and missed it terrably. Add some fuzz with this pedal and things get crazy.

A Wonderful Space Saver

By Sweetwater Customer on October 25, 2018 Music Background: Gigging Musician (Original Artist)

It's hard to replace the sound of a Digitech Whammy. It is an iconic effect that several musicians have based sounds around. However, it is bulky. Most gigging musicians have space constraints on their board, and the original Whammy enclosure is absolutely massive. Digitech solved your need for a Whammy without all the space. The sounds are great, with better tracking than I was expecting. The rate of pitch expression was a nice tool to have since it lacks an expression pedal. Absolutely wonderful.

Cool, expect a hair of latency

By MIke M from Chicago on August 29, 2016 Music Background: Sound Engineer, Guitarist

This is a solid & very versatile pedal. I have the original Whammy pedal, which is HEAVY, takes 9VAC, and takes half my pedalboard, so I was looking for something more "gig-friendly". While I knew this wouldn't be the same without the expression pedal, I was surprised to find could get relatively comparable--and definitely usable--sounds. But it is a different animal, offering a few more tricks that I just couldn't get with an expression pedal, mainly because my feet would never be able to go back & forth fast enough. My only gripes: It introduces a hair of latency, and tone/noise changes is affected when it's set on momentary. But these issues seem to be inherent in all of these types of pedals...overall it's a great sound and it will stay on my board forever.

Ricochet Whammy v JR

By Paul from N Dallas on October 29, 2016 Music Background: playing 42 yrs been there done that

I had a Whammy V and miss it to this day, If you love the Whammy harmonizer modes this is not the pedal you want. This is ONLY Whammy shifts all wet mix except for the 8va+- / + dry mode, which to be honest at first I never noticed. I did not like it much at first as I thought it had the harmonizer modes. This is your basic Whammy shift thing but you cannot go from and interval to an interval only dry to whatever setting. Quality is nice, tracking as good as the Whammy V polyphonic, might do the deal for you if you only want a few Whammy functions. Latch and Momentary is nice. Bypass only on Latch mode. mA current draw is 248mA min, have to use at least a 300mA feed.
If I had to do it over again I'd get the Whammy V or the Whammy V DT. I only use this for a 2nd interval down whammy bend or the 8va mix modes. This is a nice quality made and sounding pedal but I was never crazy over basic Whammy stuff to begin with. Harmonizer modes on the V are to die for.
