Only way I play anymore!

By THOMAS P. from Richland, MI
Music Background: hobby guitar

These are an experience. You have to get the app for the full experience. The sound is so expansive and huge the way it moves around with you. I have never played so much. Bluetooth some backing tracks and it's like standing on a stage. Never got this kind of depth from an amp and cabinet. I wish I could record what goes on in there. It's like being in a different space. "Played it till his fingers bled" The price was scary, but I could not be happier I did it! I want to buy a spare some day.

BLEW MY MIND!!!

By Sweetwater Customer from IN

When these BOSS Waza airs sound BETTER than what's in my Fractal AND a few of my old vintage tube amps yeah= MIND BLOWN!! These sound absolutely INCREDIBLE! Worth every penny. Actually feel guilty for having thousands of dollars in real amps then playing through the Waza Air I'm more satisfied in terms of tone! Worth every penny! Excellent job to the folks at BOSS whoever worked on the Waza Air project. Time to get back to trying to make my amps sound like these headphones! Unbelievable.

5 stars at the start, but it doesn't last

By Dustin Z. from Berryville, VA

Upon receipt of the Waza Air, the build quality and feel is top notch. Pairing it with the iOS/Android app truly unlocks the potential of this headset/amp. With the app, you can play with different tones, and the amp-in-room is just mind blowing. It's an incredible experience, only when it lasts. Having owned this for just over a year and a half, the software and functionality has deteriorated to something in between barely passable, and downright unusable. It's unfortunate that a $ purchase didn't last that long. My set no longer has any bluetooth capability, which seems to have happened overnight at one point and has never worked since. I've tried a factory reset several times, reinstalling the companion app, even trying a brand new phone. As nothing has seemed to fix the issues, I've put the set on the shelf and moved onto other, cheaper options. I wish it could have lasted, but unfortunately I have to say it's not worth the price of admission.

Boss Waza Air wireless electric guitar headphones amp

These work as advertised for me so far. I haven't tried some of the more advanced features, but I expect no issues with any. I have several Boss items and I have been happy with all of them.

Great product that could be much greater

By wd from NY state
Music Background: Not a musician, but someone that loves playing with guitars

Convenience, no wires and sound quality make these headphones so nice.

I wish they had a couple of extra features like being able to record what I am playing and being able to connect to other headphones so that someone in my household could listen in if wanted. I would also like to be able to send the signal to an amp if I wanted anyone in the room to hear.

I suspect there is other equipment out there that would give me all that, but I know little about what is out there for a reasonable price. Close to what I want is an iRig HD with headphones (but wires are the downside), however, the Waza Air included amps are not in the iRig software collection of amps. Which reminds me that having a large collection of amps to chose from in the Waza Airs would also be another great feature.

Would not buy this again.

By George from Missouri

I own two Katana amps that I like and use regularly. But these headphones, no! The headphones themselves work well and the sound is great. BUT DO NOT BUY THESE THINKING THAT YOU WILL USE THEM TO EXPLORE AND PRACTICE USING A LOT OF DIFFERENT DOWNLOADED TONES! Trying to find and download additional tones is just a total cluster ****!! Tone Exchange. Tone Central. Tone Studio. Connect. Import. Export. Save file. Find file on your device. Back and forth. What a convoluted mess. I tried for about a total of 6 or 7 hours to get a Studio Rats liveset of tones onto these headphones. Never did. Finally just gave up. My advice: only buy them used, at a deep discount and be prepared to only use them with the six preset patches already loaded or the few additional patches directly available from BOSS on the Tone Exchange website (which are fairly easy to import to the headphones) and call it a day. Unfortunately out of all those tones/patches I only found one tone that I really, really love and that was the "Modern Blues" patch. But all that being said, these really do sound great when used as I've described. Too bad. They could have been a great product.

Awesome Headphones

By Randy M. from LILBURN, GA

These headphones are amazing. They are easy to use, have been dependable, and sound incredible. I can play backing tracks on my phone and have them play through the headphones while also playing my guitar through them. I have this entire band playing in my head and my wife hears nothing! She loves them as well.

Boss Waza Air...its not worth the price

By Andrew B. from Bentonville, AR
Music Background: Hobby player with more money than sense.

First, let me say, the build quality and sound is great, but I found a few things that stop me being satisfied with the purchase. Firstly the spatial experience driven by the gyro is a 10LBS solution to a 1LBS problem. Rather than the origin staying still it tends to circle me, up to around 4RPM, which is plain annoying. Resetting just jumps the origin back to the starting position and it starts rotating again. You can disable that feature, but then is it still worth $?
Next, charging is annoying. I have to charge the headphones and the transmitter separately. When I first got it I assumed that plugging the transmitter into the headset while charging charges both, but it does not.
Finally, it looses connection between the guitar and the headphones at times. Just another annoying thing. Generally plugging the guitar back in solves the issue, but again, not something I would hope for at this price point.
I still use them, I question whether I got a bad unit with these issues, but at this stage less than impressed considering how highly I regard Boss products.

Great Headphone Amp

By Ken M. from Seattle
Music Background: Hobbyest

I've had my Waza-Air for a couple of years now and pretty-much use it daily. It's a great system and using headphones gives you a 'surround' quality that you can't get from a regular amp. The headphones are comfortable, and the sound quality is great. You can stream songs from your computer/phone/tablet and play-along, which I do a lot. The transmitter pairs to the headphones automatically, so pairing is a breeze. The transmitter is also compatible with Boss's other wireless receivers, so you can interchange the transmitters/receivers pretty easily.

Connecting the phone for the App is the only real inconvenience, but that's handy for the tuner and the tone library. It takes a minute-or-so of clicking to get the phone paired-up, but once it's connected, the system works & sounds great. This is a great option if you need to jam fairly quietly, and want to play around with some different tones. I'd buy this system again in a heartbeat.

Good, and not so good...

By MA from DENVER, CO
Music Background: 45+ years

I love practicing with headphones, and so does the rest of my family, and the neighbors...
The Good:
Wireless (obviously)
Sound quality is excellent, tone studio has many very usable presets, also very customizable.
Loud! Even though they're sitting on my head, I kinda like to nearly deafen myself. These will do just that, and low frequencies you can feel in your skull.
Onboard tuner (in the software) - can't beat that.
Bluetooth mixing - I have a few backup tracks on my phone / pc that I can mix in while playing, or jam along with spotify, etc.
The headphones can be used as normal bluetooth headphones without the tx. Also good sound quality and louder than most.

The not so great:
As others have mentioned, the 3d environment is more gimicky than functional. I've used it twice and wasn't impressed.
Compared to other platforms ( spark for instance ) an online resource to share tones would be appreciated. none that I'm aware of.
It's a minor thing, but I'd love to run the software on my Fire tablet. Nope, wont do it.

The seriously not good:
Other reviews have mentioned this, and I can verify. The connection between the Tx and headphones will fail, randomly, and usually in the middle of playing. Usually unplugging/ plugging back in will reconnect, but not always. Good thing we're practicing and not playing live.
I've found the transmitter is the weak link in this system. First, the 1/4' jack is mounted directly to it, so sitting down while playing will snap it right off. I fixed the issue with a 9" adapter cable - 1/4" male to female, but I shouldn't have had to. Second, the onboard lipo battery will last about 2 weeks after the warranty expires, then will begin to not charge. I've gone through 2, and the availability is an indication that they fail often. Boss states that the units aren't user servicable, but I'm an electrical engineer in the daytime. I created a replaceable battery mod, and although it voided the expired warranty, I can now play about an hour longer between charges than I used to. The "upgrade" has also improved the disconnecting issue.

Bottom line:
For the price point, Boss could've done a lot better, $ would've been more reasonable for what it is. Do I regret the purchase? No. I've had many hours of happy practice inside and on my porch while keeping the peace with everyone around me. Just be aware of the issues I and others have had with this particular system.

Amazing sound and wireless freedom!!!!!!!

By Gabriel from Las Vegas
Music Background: Guitar teacher

This head seat amp is definitely a must have for every guitarist. The sound quality is absolutely inspiring for your song writing and practice. Waza app allows you to fine tune your tones and effects precisely to your liking. Im recommending these headphones to all my students. Great tool to keep you learning and progressing. It has a gyroscope that simulates live fluctuating sound with movement from your head. This can be adjusted or turned off in the app. Comfortable and hard to put down. Josh my sales engineer alway gets my orders to me safe and fast. Sweet Water is the only way for me and my students. Thanks Josh!

Good but some issues

By Tom J. from USA
Music Background: Intermediate guitar player

Bottom line: If you want a good sounding wireless headphone practice amp, and you won't agonize over paying $, buy it.

The Good:
These sound good. They are comfortable. Headphones are easy use after you do the initial setup; you plug in, turn on and you are able to play. The gyro gimmick works if you follow the instructions; I just have it on Surround mode which sounds good.

Issues:
(1) The wireless disconnects frequently. I just pull out the dongle and push it back in and the reconnect so it's not a huge problem but it it annoying.
(2) User manuals do not cover everything. The basic quickstart manual does not cover the software. There is a software manual on the website but it covers only about a third of the software. The Boss official videos are marketing fluff and there is no real tutorial for the software available. The paid reviews from all your favorite Youtubers are all omplete BS.
(3) The phone app is terrible. It is typical Boss software that looks old and has page after page of menus, like Katana. Really bad. Difficult to use, not intuitive, and there are weird compromises like you can use OR modulation in some parches. There is also way too much complexity and too many options from a headphone amp. The software is not updated often. Using this software was very frustrating.
(4) As I said, the sound is good. Not great. For $ I expected great. It sounds like Boss. Some people love Katana and COSM. It's fine, but it's old stuff. If you love the way Katana sounds you will absolutely love this. But if you expect this to sound like new modeling tech, or a real amp, you will be disappointed.

I like these, I am keeping them. I use them all the time. I walk around the house playing guitar with no cables. To me that is worth $. The device is probably worth about $ realistically, but there aren't other options that do what this does and this thing works and I use it a lot, so I am at peace with having overpaid. The software sucks but after I got 5 patches I like onto the headphones, i don't have the crappy app hardly ever. As a practice tool it is hard to beat.

Love these!

By Chris from Ohio

These sound amazing and work flawlessly.

As a musician who has always been self-conscious when practicing in the presence of others, these are soooo useful.

One aspect of this product that doesn't get enough attention is the availability of EVERY effect you can dream of in the app for free. It's nice to test drive an effect before purchasing a pedal for use on stage.

I've been playing amplified instruments all my life and live in a small house with my family. This purchase was a no-brainer. They're expensive but quite a deal considering the cost of developing a product such as this, the number of free options in the app, and the quality of the product. They're nice Bluetooth headphones for regular music listening as well. Premium stereo Bluetooth headphones don't cost much less.

Too many issues

By Ben T. from KANSAS CITY, MO

1) The bluetooth connection is garbage, at least I can speak from an android perspective.
It just doesn't connect the way it's supposed to. For $400, such a problem shouldn't even pop up.
2) The charge is really short.

For $, you're throwing away good money.

Fender Mustang Micro is a much more logical choice and it costs a fourth of the price.
One charge cycle can let you play for a solid 5 hours or so.

Great new toy ! Excellent for practice.

By THOMAS K. from Winter Garden, FL

Great sounding headphone amp, easy to use and well built. You can get great variety of tones, sounds, etc.

Great for practice at home and late at night. A little pricey but well worth it IMO if you like to play.

I have both, guitar and bass and they are equally awesome. You won't go wrong with either one.

I knew if they were made by WAZA they would be good........and I was not disappointed.

WAZA Air Freedom

By David

Once you work through a few weeds in the setup the experience is phenomenal. I was experiencing drop out as the phones would go into sleep mode a few minutes into the jam when I had them plugged into the amp. I set the settings on the app for static with no luck. Until I stumbled across the solution on the net which was simply to plug the transmitter into the phones like you are paring once you set the settings in the app. Once I did that there were no more issues. Another weed was connecting to the MIDI in the app. I would attempt to connect but found the MIDI connection screen to be white with no connection possible. This was after a long practice session. I charged the phones and everything was back to normal. The only downside I could find which I have not found a solution to is the drift issue. If I am fairly still the gyro works fine. If I start moving about it seems to get lost. Operator error? Not sure. The availability of the FX settings is a plus for those who want to experience the Katana sound while away from the amp. I could not find a way to completely go clean with them when wanting to grab the effects from say only the pedal board or the amp. Even after dialing all the settings down to zero there were still some residual effects. I could not get it totally clean. Again operator error? Over all I highly recommend the headphones especially for the freedom of not being tied to the amp or pedalboard for your adjustments. Grab your favorite beverage and head out into the yard to enjoy the great outdoors and then rock until your heart is content.

extraordinary sounds and unlike any headphone experience ever!

By Paul from box behind Starbucks

Having these a couple months and working at tweaking the sounds to suit me. I can honestly say I am getting tones out of these amp types that are just extraordinary. The depth, and this harmonic overtone thing it has are just outstanding. Every time I put them on the sounds just amaze me how good these amp renderings are. By adding the low priced Air Step bluetooth switcher block you can actually turn on and off all the effects at one time instead of just the 3 in the edit program. The choice of ambient and moveable sound placement is just incredible. Unlike any head phone or amp experience you have ever had. I usually hate headphones and the closed in surrealistic dead pan atmosphere but the Waza Air changes all that and changes it so dramatically it never ceases to blow me away how they have done to these things what they do. Comfortable to wear I swear I have at times stopped playing and shut down gotten up and remembered I had phones on. You can hit certain harmonic intervals when playing high gain that just react even better than any amp up have played. I find them a delightful experience and the adjustable ambiance choices provide such a huge stage like big room environment it is simply uncanny how Waza has engineered this. Normally I am not a big fan of Boss but Waza versions are so much better. When I saw Waza made these headphones it helped me make the choice to try them. The more I use them they are a delight to experience. Truly a 5 star product. Anyone you does not like them just must not be adept at tweaking in the tones, which are not hard to dial nor do they require much but you can get fantastic clean and jazzy tones as well as the marvelous high gain renderings which just sing in harmonic response. Practice is now fun late at night, great product!

Very impressive technology

By Paul

First time I have heard headphones that sound this good. The sonic ambiance technology really makes the amp sound in the room and not hard lined to your ears. More than just reverb/delay tricks. The 3D effect works!! Amp sounds are extraordinary. Effects are a bit hard to navigate and use, still haven't got it figured out very good. Lack of a detailed manual is glaring, this no read era is making everyone dense. Interface and setup is easier than I expected, I also got an air step bluetooth switch to make effects easier to use. Sale price was a good deal worth it!

November 16, 2022

Wish this worked well.

By Sweetwater Customer

I'm really disappointed with this headphone amp. For starters, I gave up on the gyro ambiance soon after purchasing it; it's just not reliable. After using it for a few minutes, the stereo image drifts to one ear or the other. I'm fine with that I guess. I've been using it in surround mode which sounds very nice until it doesn't. What I'm talking about are two separate issues. First, for no apparent reason, the signal from the transmitter drops out and the only way I know to reset it is to unplug and plug it back in. This is really annoying. The second issue is the popping that I hear as I play. There's no rhyme or reason to the popping that I can determine. I keep both units charged. If anyone at Sweetwater can help me with these issues I'd be extremely grateful. Honestly, if I hadn't had it for over a month, I think I'd return it. This device doesn't really have a competitor but I wish it did because the concept is wonderful. Syncing with my phone, both for control of the sound and playback of external audio works very well.

Great Wireless Headphones!

By Keith from Massachusetts
Music Background: Learning

I have both the Waza Air Guitar and Waza Air Bass and like them both. The headphones are comfortable and it's great to be wireless. Like others have mentioned, I do lose the Bluetooth signal from the transmitter to the headphones every now and then, but it isn't too bad. The intermittent loss of Bluetooth is easy to compensate for by just unplugging the transmitter from the cable jack, on either the guitar or bass, and re-plugging it in. Each time, when I first start using them, I'm careful to put the headphones on my coffee table, turn them on, and let them stay still for a little while, as not to confuse the gyros. They mention letting them stay still for a short while in the online information, and it seems to work, as I have not noticed the drifting others have mentioned. I do sometimes get a brief bit of static, but this is mostly on the Waza Air Bass set, and was possibly or partially due to some fret buzz I had before I got a good set up on the bass. The static might also occur a little bit more when the Bass is in active mode rather than a passive Bass mode. The thing I love about the Waza Air's is the ability to practice at all hours and not make too much sound that would bothering my neighbor. I've used the Mustang Micro guitar headphone amp, which is great too, but I like the cordless operation of the Waza Air. The Waza Air Bass is probably one of the few good solutions for headphones to use with a bass, as there aren't many other options. The Waza Air Guitar is a great solution for guitar, and though there are other options for guitar, so far I like using the Waza Air Guitar better. Since I have both the Bass and Guitar versions of the Waza Air I also have a total of two charge cables to charge both the transmitter and headphones at the same time, which I like. I mark the different components with a piece of Artist tape so I don't mix up the Guitar and Bass versions. I also am careful to charge each of the headphones with the correct original cable for each one. You cannot use the unit and charge it at the same time however. The transmitter often needs no charging after one use and seems to charge very quickly. The headphones take a little longer to charge and do not have as many hours of operation per charge as the transmitter. They say the headphones get about 5 hours of use per charge and the transmitter about 12 hours of use per charge. That said, I have never depleted the charge on either unit during one usage. I use my older standard Apple iPhone chargers (cubes with the green dots that are USB A connections) to charge the units, as they say not to use a rapid charger. Overall, I think both the Waza Air guitar and Waza Air Bass are great and I'm very happy I have them. They are a bit pricy, but not too bad, if you consider that you are getting a transmitter, a receiver, and headphones all included. Your experience might vary but I'm glad I got them, think they are great, and love practicing whenever I want.

These things are incredible. They actually cause me to play a lot more. No cables, nobody else in the house has to hear it. They should be great for trying out guitars, too. No more waiting for an amp.

Amp Position Drift

By Teddy from Northern California
Music Background: 40+ years a Hobbyist

Love the sound, build, look, controls (an app instead of hopelessly small dials on the other headphone amps). I'm not returning it because it is superior in those ways. But the stereo position drift is a total bummer. The only 'fixes' are apparently resetting the position to center with the easy tap of 2 buttons on the phones, or keeping your head perfectly upright and rotating your head only on a horizontal plane. The former is a hassle because I need to do it every 60 seconds. The latter is impossible. Who does that?
In the other fixed position settings it's awesome. I don't need to feel like I'm in an actual room with the amp position changing based on my head position. But it would be nice if that feature worked better, because it does sound awesome.

Outstanding!

By Rick T. from Pen Argyl, PA
Music Background: Drums, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards gigging musician

I've had the Katana MK II 100, but didn't care for an amp behind me on stage, so changed to a Pod Go and a Headrush speaker in front of me. However, I always loved the Katana tones. Regardless of my main gear, none of it lets me practice wherever I am like in the couch with the dogs, or on the back deck on a nice day. These give you the best of both worlds. They aren't cheap, but the quality is excellent and usability is what I was paying for. I now practice all the time!

Excellent quality and sound

By Richard T. from Pen Argyl, PA
Music Background: 45+ year drummer, guitar, bass, keys, vocals

I've always loved by Katana II amp, but for playing live I switched to a PodGo and Headrush speaker combo because I didn't care for the amp behind me. However, I was always impressed with the sounds in the Katana and Boss Tone Central apps. This gives me a great practice tool I can use anywhere, anytime, even on the porch in the sunshine vs. my regular practice place is in the basement. I'm not sure how much I'll use the Static setting with the Gyro. It's interesting, but Surround setting is excellent and will likely be my default.

Not great, but nothing else like it

By Sweetwater Customer

I had heard about the problems with losing connection between the transmitter and the headphones, and between a bluetooth device and the headphones, so wasn't shocked when I experienced similar problems. Frustrating, BUT I love being able to grab the guitar, headphones and transmitter and NO cables or external boxes and play silently and not bother those around me. I use the headphones every night while watching TV with my wife. I enjoy being able to have six choices of amps and effects at the touch of a button. Sounds are good enough to make my practice session quite satisfying. I'm getting a lot of practice time that I wouldn't have had without my wife complaining about abandoning her, lol.

As far as I can tell, there aren't any similar low-latency headphone/transmitter combinations on the market. Yes, expensive. Yes, dropped connections. BUT, I'm not sending them back to Sweetwater.

One point - I had hoped to also use these with my electric violin (Yamaha YEV-104). The results were AWFUL - thin, terrible sound. I guess I hadn't realized just how much my Tonedexter was adding to the sound of my violin. Could also be other factors such as impedance, but I wanted to note my dismal experience. I'll be practicing violin with wireless guitar transmitter/receiver into an Tonedexter and amplifier. (Yes, I could use headphones from Tonedexter or Amp, but I don't like headphone cables being up around my shoulders while playing violin.)

Solid practice gear

By Terence D.

While they can be used for listening to music etc, I use mainly for practice. With five kids, it helps me play anytime I don't want to disturb someone by turning on one log my amps.

Surprised

By Brett from Indiana
Music Background: Intermediate Player

From the first day I was surprised at the sound quality and ease of use. I was a little concerned, based on previous reviews, that customizing the patches may be cumbersome. I did not find that to be the case. I was able to customize patches and save to the six presets on the first night of use. I have a couple of really nice amps but the noise is an issue for my wife at times. I think I will use these more than I originally planned.

Best option for practice

By Allen from Virgina
Music Background: Former gigging player

Just started playing again after moving cross-country last year. No more setting up my main rig just to run thru scales, chords, etc. I use the stock clean setting, sounds like a Katana amp is in my room with me. To me, practicing Electric guitar plugged-in is much better than not, and using the Waza Air totally feels like playing thru an amp. I can stand up or sit, or walk to another area in the house while playing without a cord to worry about. Really great!

If you are serious about practicing, consider this.

By Aaron W. from Leominster, MA
Music Background: Gigging guitarist for 20 years.

Hi Everyone - Overall Rating is "this thing is awesome", but think about what you want before buying. Read on:

Pros:

1) Wireless QUIET connectivity to your guitar.

2) 60+ effects, all of which are fantastic.

3) Sounds great with no noticeable latency.

3) When it connects properly (which for me has been all the time, but others have had some issues) you have a perfect, quiet, portable, great sounding practice system. If that is what you are looking for - and I was - then this is for you.

Cons:

1) I have 2 Boss Katana amplifiers, and I will make the same complaint about those (which I love) as I will here. For whatever reason, Boss seems to like to deliver the key component and then nickel and dime the edges. The Waza Air should come with a hard shell case, but a soft case is sold separately. Since it's promoted as a great way to practice while traveling, this is frankly disgraceful.

2) Don't buy this for the 3D option. I don't really care about this, but if it matters to you you probably won't be blown away. I'm sure improvements will be made, but to me right now it seems like a gimmick - the heart and soul of this lies elsewhere.

3) Did I mention it needs a case?

Overall this was a great purchase. I mainly needed a way to practice with an amp while not disturbing the family, and this is ideal. The pros for me vastly outweigh the cons, and honestly it's a lot of fun to play with while also pulling it's weight as a practice tool. Finally, I hate spending money online for music equipment. It always seems like a gamble. Despite that, over the years I've bought 3 amps, multiple effects pedals, a guitar, and this Waza Air through Sweetwater, and Zack Davidson and everyone else that I have dealt with have been consummate professionals all the way through, so hats off to them.

Could Be Better

By John T. from GRAND JUNCTION, CO

I'd been looking for something like this for quite awhile, finally found it in late 2020, used it quite a bit for awhile. It's primarily for guitars, but it has a bass channel, the sound is OK, not great, but it's fine for the purpose of being able to practice without disturbing the rest of the household or neighborhood.

The reviews I read at the time complained about the fact the the two units, even though the guitar plug part does plug into the headphone unit for storage, have to be charged separately. Since I've been using the device less often, that fact constantly comes back to bite me. I plug one in, charge it, unplug charge the other one, and if I don't use the thing for a period longer than a week, the other piece not plugged in is dead. So you have to have two available USB ports and two of the old style cords available all the time, and always plugged in.

I don't know if the new bass version is any better with the charging system, but having paid $ for this 14 months ago, I'm not that thrilled with it.

You've gotta get one

By Jeffrey D. from PA
Music Background: Beginner / dabble for a lot of years and gave up. Now it's a whole new world for me.

I have been looking for something like this for a while now. Soon as I emailed Sweetwater, I had an answer right away about this waza-air.

I am very impressed and thankful for this product. I have had to recharge the batteries a couple of times now but, that's a good thing. It means I am actually using this product a lot. I downloaded a few backing tracks and it's giving me more interest because I can play along with the backing tracks and hear what I sound like. It seems like I'm playing a little faster and can change my sound to match the cover.

The sound is amazing and its like you're sitting in front of the Amp. Without the extreme loudness and waking up the house. My wife goes to bed and I go down to the living room. How wonderful to play for hours or should I say try to play.... LOL!

Either way, I absolutely love it.

CON: Wish it had more and clearer directions on all the thing it can do and how to do them.

Enjoyable but would not purchase again

By Ben C.

I would say my overall experience with these headphones after a month or so is they are enjoyable once you have everything set up but they are overpriced. I would not buy these headphones again. Honestly for the insane price of $420 you could get a reactive IR box and a pair of good headphones and just run your amp through that for silent playing or use a Strymon iridium. I think these headphones would be a good price if they were $200-$250, but I really do not understand how these cost $420. The instructions included are confusing when it's actually pretty simple to set headphones up with your phone. There's no carrying case included with the headphones which is crazy at this price point. The app used for these headphones will only work for an iPad or iPhone, there is no app available for a Macbook. Is does not seem like you can load patches for your headphones except for the patches Boss gives you. The actual Boss app for these headphones is okay. Setting up presets is quite confusing and not straightforward. One thing I did not read in other reviews on Sweetwater which I'm surprised is the headphones will get interference with your wifi router. If your wifi router is in the same room as your headphones, good luck. It will cause weird noises in the headphones. Also, the headphones will quit working at times so you have to unplug and plug the transmitter back into the guitar. The "stage" setting that they show in all of the marketing videos is okay, you will turn it on for a few seconds then immediately go back to the "surround" setting. For this much money, I should've just bought a reactive load box (Two Notes Torpedo), Strymon Iridium, or Boss Katana 100. If you are not dead set on getting these headphones, maybe look elsewhere before purchasing these.

Pros:
- Decent sound
- Headphone build quality is good

Cons:
- Interference with wifi router
- App is not great
- You cannot get the app on a MacBook
- Expensive
- Many options you could go with for $
- No carrying case included, carrying case is extra $

Best practice tool yet!

By Liam from New Hampshire USA
Music Background: Obsessed amateur

I have had these for over a year and they are absolutely amazing as a practice tool. Prior to these I was using the little VOX headphone amp which is a bit of a horror as you plug it into your guitar, then you have a headphone cable and a mini plug input if you want to play along with a .mp3 file or a youtube lesson. Dealing with the cords everywhere is just a pain. With the Boss unit I get up in the am, grab a coffee, plug in the Waza air and it just WORKS! It connects instantly to both the guitar and my iPad and I'm off and running. This summer I had it at my camp in Maine with my Traveller electric guitar and just had a blast playing in the middle of nowhere with great sound!
A little bit of a beef- I find the 3D surround sound a bit of a gimmick. The first thing I did when trying to get great tone is turn that stuff off, it's just a bit too much. Yes you turn your head and it seems like the amp stays behind you in space, cool I guess but I'm not going to play Wonderwall in front of the mirror and pretend I'm in Oasis. Well probably not. Roland seems to miss the best part of this product in that its a GREAT PRACTICE TOOL, that stuff isn't necessary. Practice and portability should be the focus IMHO.

I would trade all that functionality and the zillion effects in a minute for:
1) the ability to record a rough 30 second file if you stumble on a cool idea
2) A dual charging cable
3) A decent soft case for traveling with it.

For over $ they couldn't provide a proper charging cable? I stole the dual charging cable from my under $ cheapo wireless guitar transmitter and the soft case from my $ Cowin noise cancelling headphones. These are not big brands but they provided proper accessories. Now I can put it in my luggage easily. I would buy these again in a minute because as I said THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT PRACTICE TOOL but c'mon Boss, the profit margin must be huge, you can provide proper accessories. Now I see they offer a hard headphone case for $? Sheesh, get those bean counters under control and make the purchase experience complete for your customers! Still a great product but for that $ you shouldn't need to raid your other gear.

Worth the money

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought one with Birthday money last July. Before that I visited Sweetwater and they pulled one from stock and I tried it out. The sound is incredible. The bluetooth cloning switch operates by sliding it up or for an audio device pushing it in. Sweetwater technical support helped me with this. I do suggest using separate usb charging cables for the headset and remote. I actually found a split cable. I invested in a nice hard case for traveling. Actually using the headphones on the plane is nice because the sound quality is better than any headphones for cellphones. What makes me angry is it sounds better than most of my amps.

I use it daily, but it could be better

By Brian from USA

It's a little buggy. Drifts and my presets haven't saved. So if I'm going to be on for a long session I need to go into editor and tweak the amp settings.

Pros the sounds can be really fun and you can get lost in the experience (not in a black mirror way). My favorite setting was dialing in good clean tone and putting the transmitter into the end of my pedal board. Works great with a looper that way.

The other way I use them is strictly as a wireless headphone. Sound good for streaming music and has been great at drowning out the house sounds while working from home during lockdown.

Solid set of headphones!

By Will P.

So for what they are, these are solid headphones and if you are looking for something that is portable and will let you practice with minimal noise, these are a great choice. They are very comfortable to wear and I had no problems with pairing them to my phone. Simply plug in the transmitter to your guitar and you are rocking! Super easy to toss on a song and play along and because there is a separate volume knob for the guitar, you can blend it in with the music. The only issue I have is that if you are playing with the spatial side of things, they can lose tracking. Seems to be a common issue but to me that is really minor.

As for the tone, if you have every played or heard the Katana, you are basically looking at the same tonal sounds. There are plenty of options to get just about anything you can think of to play most songs. You have presets that you can also assign or a live set, so you can technically put together a playlist and jam along without a lot of interruption.

Lastly, they seem fairly durable and I was happy to see that the ear pads pop off via a magnet which I hope means that Boss can replace them. Sadly this was a problem with my other headphones. The pads wore out with no way to replace them.

Overall, I am supper happy with these and they will serve me well.

Great headphone for silent guitar practice -- And it's wireless!

By David B. from Nashua, NH
Music Background: Professional musician, private music teacher, conductor, composer/arranger

A wireless set of headphones is a wonderful thing! No possibility of stepping on the cable or hooking the cable on the arm of a chair and having the headphones yanked off your head or yanked out of the guitar. This set uses the same RF range that the BOSS wireless guitar transmitter/receiver uses so there is no noticeable latency and no static in the signal -- just clear pure guitar sound that you hear as soon as you strike the string.

Watching the video might make a person scratch their head and say "Yeah, sure, like that stuff really does all that!" But it's true -- the spatial effects possible with this head set such as hearing the amp as if you're looking at it (thus the sound appears to be in front of you) or hearing the amp as if it's behind you as you'd hear it while performing actually work just like it says! And the settings where what you hear changes as you turn your head are amazing!

The ability to hook up a device via bluetooth so that you can play along with backing tracks of your choosing is a wonderful thing, as is the potential for downloading various tones for use so that the headphones aren't just a straight guitar tone but can be edited for things like quiet acoustic tone or shredding tone and anywhere in between. There are currently a few sets of tones that can be downloaded from the Waza Boss-Tone site -- I hope more will be added for more variety but there is a lot here to begin with.

This headphone amp comes with the transmitter included so as soon as you open the box you're ready to go (once both devices are charged -- they come with some charge already but it's best to fully charge them so you won't run out of juice in the middle of your practice session). The both charge with micro-USB connectors. If for any reason the pairing between transmitter and headphone gets interrupted, it's easy to restore it simply by plugging the transmitter into the headphones for a few seconds. I've had this for two weeks now and that's never happened (I also have two sets of the BOSS WL-20L wireless guitar hookups and they've never lost their pairing so I don't think it's a common occurrence).

This makes late-night or early-morning guitar practice a wonderful thing and everybody else in the house can be sound asleep while I can pretend to be Hendrix at Monterey! (In my dreams!)

Awesome Headgear

By Ryan J. from Northern Arizona
Music Background: Play Keyboards and Guitars frequently for fun.

As an avid player of the guitar, I have found this headphone different and awesome than just a pair of wireless headset. At first look, the headset looks like a normal headphone, but once you plug in for use, It Rocks, literally. Just like many BOSS products with built in tones, these headphones with the ability to control and manipulate the tones coming into your ears, is so cool. The presets are okay, but once you start to mess with the circuit tones built in, and changing tones, reverb, sustain, etc., it becomes your go to headset. It beats having to drag out your amp and pedals every time you want to play. The built in tones processor and built in bluetooth connection(connect i-pad, android),allows you to program the tones and sounds using an App to manage your tones, and addition to that, it allows you to connect to a bluetooth music player, so you can play music as a headphone while playing your musical instrument. It's just an awesome headset, If I knew that this was not just a wireless headphone, but practically an amp and pedals built in, I wouldn't have spent and invested so much into all the pedals I currently own.

Product is hindered by the transmitter

By Sebastian from Dana Point, CA

The headphones themselves are great, you hear lots of nuance in your playing and there's a bunch of great fx in the app. The only downside is that the ear cups aren't thick enough which causes some discomfort after a while. The transmitter, on the other hand, I could do without. The only instrument it works with is my strat, in my jazz bass, the vibration wiggles it out just enough for it to disconnect after about 1-2 minutes of play. And don't even bother trying it in pedals, the same thing happens for some reason. I tried this in an attempt to get around the issue it has with the bass. Either that or you get a really obnoxious clicking sound that's louder than the level you're putting out.

Great Concept - Not Ready Retail

By JC
Music Background: 35 years Casual Guitarist

If you are reading this as research as you likely are then read to the end. I have read all the reviews here as I was about to give the Headset another go after returning my first set one week after their first release in Australia. For the record I own three differing BOSS Amps and multiple Pedals so generally happy with BOSS product.

Summary for me on my first set Waza Headset is.

1, I had no real connection issues after I eventually got them set up as I am an android user.

2, I bought the head set purely for quiet practice and travel as many of you will so drilling into software options and tinkering was never going to be an issue for me. Regardless I never kept them long enough to experience some of the negatives in this space as others have reported.

3, The separate charging of the headphones and receiver was just plain inconvenient.

4, Build quality is fine however as a product that is touted as 'portable', BOSS not supplying a storage case / travel Bag or second charge cable is a cost cutting step that left me wondering! For a product in this price range it is a must as I see it.

5, The giro drift was inexcusable regardless of how severe or minor it may have been. My set were horrendous and was the single biggest reason I returned them within the week. BOSS's advice is not to move your head in a "vertical" direction (Still a response on the BOSS FAQ page today) which is plain stupid given most will at least nod to a beat at some point. There is a concept for BOSS to consider!

So concluision is that after my own experienc and after reading these reviews (considering the dates against them) I have decided it's not yet time to give BOSS a second go. The product still needs development work so I will stick with my Fender Mustang Micro until I hear news of a Boss Waza-Air Headphone MkII with fixes.

Revolutionary

By Sweetwater Customer

Im completely floored by this product. As I get older, now with a toddler, the time Im able to play through my rig is basically non existent anymore. I still gig, rehearse, but my home time is me playing an unplugged guitar in the basement. Ive tried the IRig and some other pocket amps but they all sound terrible and it is depressing. Id rather play unplugged. I miss so much just being able to play, those 1-2-3 hours of just getting lost by myself and feeling my guitar.

The moment I put these on and started to play I was blown away. Im not exaggerating I literally had tears it sounded so amazing and I knew I had been given back something I had lost. It was a true amp, a good amp, next to me. Sounded incredible. It was late and I kept having to remind myself no these are headphones I dont have to turn down.

I read about the gyro feature being gimmicky and I didnt plan on using it - but it actually is really cool. It makes you feel like you are playing through an amp in the room and the subtle effect of the panning as you walk around the room playing is great. Even if the location moves over time I dont think it matters really you still get the same effect while walking around.

This is more than a practice tool, it is a brilliant piece of gear that completely simulates playing through an actual amp. It has given me a part of my life back that was so important to me. Im serious this has changed my life. Thank you Boss for this genius device. You get it, I get it. You did it. Awesome job, thank you from the bottom of my heart

Disappointing and gimmickry

By R.L from Texas, U.S.A
Music Background: pro/studio

It's ok but NOT worth the... bucks. Amps do not move side to side in the way these make it sound. The volume knob on the side made it hard to mix guitar with backing tracks. It gave me a headache and they were returned 2nd day. I would recommend something like the AKG Pro Audio K240 or similar. Something corded.

Amazing Guitar Amp in my Desk Drawer???

Every guitar player should own these. You will not be disappointed especially if your living situation doesn't allow you to move a lot of air and grease your neighbors' ears. I probably should have bought these from my local music store but SweetWater is just so fricken awesome to deal with. I hope you guys are putting the SweetWater Candy to good use instead of just sucking it all down. The timing isn't always perfect to tell your significant other that you just blew a wad of cash at SweetWater. Wait until the opportune moment for her to find the SW Candy to use as an ice breaker for her to say...WHAT DID YOU BUY. ;-)~

First home or practice amp that make me want to play more.

By Ken from Fort Worth, TX

I have found the BOSS WAZA-AIR headphones to be the number one item for playing in a "low noise" environment. The WAZA's make me want to play more, so I do. The biggest thing is clearly hearing the guitar, not picks on strings, and how it puts you into the sound. They sound incredible. I have a 73 Twin Reverb, Fender Blues Jr, Deluxe Tone Master, and a Yamaha THR30II. My wife works from home and (understandably) needs things quiet. The Twin and Blues Jr require way to much volume, the Tone Master is clearly able to achieve the tone I like and is my go to when I can "go loud", but I still hear nothing but string noise at the more quiet volumes. I frankly did not connect at all with the THR30ll. It's a very popular but, meh.

Worked so well I bought more Boss wireless gear

By Perry D. from North Attleboro, MA

Let me get the bad part out first…the associated app, like apparently all of Boss' apps, is really difficult to use.

That said, I am clearly the target audience for this product. Slightly techy casual player. I've had my pair about a month and I don't think a day has passed that I haven't slipped them on. They sound great, and they really are plug-and-play, you plug the transmitter into your guitar, put on the headset and start playing. Once you get past the wonky app, you can dial in just about any tone that you want, and cycle through them right from the headset.

There's no lag whatsoever. The wireless connection works so well that I bought a set of plugs for my amp and now am 100% wireless, and it's really a joy.

I also own a Pocket GT, and I used it quite a bit with its built-in YouTube functionality. The Waza-Air has pretty much replaced that setup, even though the Air is slightly less capable. I've not seen any dropouts or lag across Bluetooth that some have reported (I'm in the Apple ecosystem).

I don't use any of the gyro-based features. They appear to work but seem quite gimmicky.

I'd recommend these to a friend in a heartbeat. They work great and the fun factor is 11.

Invaluable Practice Tool That Needs improvement

By Frank from Detroit
Music Background: Former pro. Current Hobbyist and basement-band rocker.

First, this is an invaluable practice tool. It offers most of the effects available through the Katana line and allows you to practice without disturbing others almost anywhere. The sound is quality is good, but not great.

Now there are two primary issues I've had with this unit:
1) BlueTooth to Android connectivity is not simple.
2) The drifting Gyro.

These headsets have two separate Bluetooth connections (Waza-Air Audio and Waza-Air Midi) to your phone and require some very specific instructions to get both Bluetooth connections to an android phone operational. This should be part of the getting started section because Boss doesn't have anything that great in their instructions. 1) Do not install the Boss Tone Studio (BTS) app and don't connect the included transmitter to the guitar. 2) Turn off global location settings on the phone 3) Turn on the Waza-Air headset and hold down the Bluetooth connection button. 4) Connect to the "Waza-Air Audio" source from the Bluetooth pairing screen on your phone. 5) Confirm Audio by firing up YouTube or any app with sound. 6) Turn on Global Location settings. 7) Install BTS. 8) Connect the transmitter to the guitar. 9) Start BTS and allow the app to use your Location while using the app. 10) Follow the connection prompts in BTS and choose "Waza-Air Midi". This may require another push of the pairing button on the headset.

This janky Bluetooth connecting would likely be a deal breaker for many. It shouldn't be this involved or the instructions for connecting should be improved. Shame on Boss.

Also there is a drift with the gyro (allowing the virtual speaker placement) is near-maddening. If you move your head at all in a direction that is not horizontal, you're going to experience virtual speaker drift. It can be as slight a movement as looking at the fretboard or as ferocious as headbanging to Megadeth while playing. That virtual speaker is going to eventually move on you and usually ends up with the sound clobbering one ear or another. Troubleshooting instructions indicate turning on the headset and leaving it still for a few seconds before putting it on to allow the gyro to properly set. I've found this doesn't work well at all. Again, shame on Boss.

Given that, I still like the product and what Boss intends to accomplish with it. You can set the speaker to surround or turn the gyro to the off position to eliminate the infamous gyro drift. You have many of the BTS effects available as on the Katana series right from the app. The fact that you can literally practice anywhere with decent volume and play along with jam tracks or your favorite tunes is invaluable. You can walk around the block while practicing. That part of the product is awesome. I take this out on my screened-in back porch every couple of days. It just takes some real tinkering to get the thing set up and it feels like you stumble upon getting it set up rather than following any one set of instructions.

Hopefully, a future Waza-Air Mk II will clear up many of the issues with this initial offering. Knowing what I know about the unit, I think it should run right around the same cost as the Katana 100 1x12 amp; no more. I do enjoy using it now that it is set up properly.

WAZA Review

I was unfaithful and did not purchase this item from Sweetwater (I had gift cards to use). I am posting my thoughts on the Sweetwater site because their customer service is top notch and Ian L. Has helped me out many, many times!

I have been practicing bass with headphones for a lot of years. The Bass Ace, Tascam trainers and lately a Boss GT1-B with an iPad have been my practice buddies. All of them were excellent but all of them wired. Enter the WAZA Air.

I initially charged the WAZA Air and transmitter for a few hours and sat down with the instruction sheet which pretty accurately described how to marry the unit to my Apple devices. After charging, I paired everything up and was instantly a fan! The sound was great, the cans were comfortable and the Bluetooth connection was stable. Every app on my iPad tracked accurately and sounded great. In my search for a truly wireless practice rig that I can easily take on the road I've found Nirvana! Being a bass player, I don't really need a lot of effects, but if one keeps the mission of this wizardry in mind (personal wireless practice device) it delivers hard! I love the idea of turning on, starting a playlist on a device and practicing/learning new tunes virtually anywhere!

I've only had the WAZA Air for a few days, but I am impressed to say the least!

Breakthrough

By Drew from California

I broke through a plateau because of this unit. The ease and the inspiration of being able to plugin wirelessly and for it to sound like you are playing through an amp, has made practice so enjoyable. This is such a needed innovation for apartment living. My next wish is for boss to add a wireless pedalboard and a line out for recording.

I'm just a beginner and I also live in a small space with the family — can't be too loud, especially since I'm learning and sound like.... like... well, a "not especially musical beginner".

5 stars for what they do:
These headphones are amazing. There are times when I am practicing and I close my eyes and my brain is "pointing" to the amp location. The sound quality is fantastic.... I mean FANTASTIC. Did I say Fantastic? Well, they are. It would be nice if it were possible to load in more than 6 "patches" (I don't thing that you can) into the app but that is not really that important. Bluetooth Connection with the app is easy (follow instructions). Good battery life. Cable-less is liberating. Love it. Headphones are very comfortable and appear to be quite durable.

Minus a half star:
BUT, for this kind of money Boss should have included a case or even just a soft bag. There should also be a way to charge the transmitter and headphones at the same time (connect them like you're pairing them and charge as one "unit" rather than needing to charge them sequentially or find a second cable/adaptor and charge at the same time but separately). For this kind of money I have to hunt down a second cable and adaptor? Inconveniencing customers literally right out of the box is not a good idea Boss.

Summary: Would I buy again? Absolutely. In a heartbeat. For me, they make practice time easier.

This is it

By Sweetwater Customer from NV

I work nights. Usually when I want to play the house is sleeping. So I'm stuck playing an unplugged solid body for practice which works but it just isn't satisfying. Until now. I bought the Waza Air for Christmas 2020 and it has changed my guitar world. On my off days I play every night at anytime I want. I have owned this for 4 months now and have figured out how to dial in good tones. And now, when I practice, it is fun, it is satisfying, it makes me want to play. I Bluetooth music from YouTube, or my iPod and get on it. It's awesome. The spatial effects are a gimmick, very cool...but I leave it off. Surround sound is pretty good but usually I just use some delay or reverb and it sounds good enough. As a modeling amp, it is limited, some of the effects can be a little cheesy. I have a Fractal FM3 and it won't compare to that. But hey, they packed this all into a WIRELESS headphone set. The phones are comfortable, they sound great. No wires is fantastic. You can walk around the house with this thing. The price is steep but considering what I get out of it, it is well worth the price. If you're on the fence with this and looking for a quiet and quality practice solution, this is it.

Better Than Expected

By Earl L. from Hagerstown MD
Music Background: Middle Aged metal head that can't let go of the past :)

I had searched every local guitar/music store to demo these because the price point was a little high for something that I thought may just be a gimmick. Lets face it, $... isn't exactly inexpensive for headphones. Finally, after having no luck finding a demo I decided to take a gamble and just purchase them. I am so glad I did! These are definitely not a gimmick! The sound quality is incredible. I seldom even use my amplifier now that I have these. I can play anywhere, anytime now that I have these without disturbing my spouse. The ability to stream music or instructional videos while playing is a huge plus. This is one of those rare items that encourage you to pick up your guitar. I read negative reviews for the companion app, but overall it works as it should. My only complaint is that if you have a guitar with a recessed input jack (like an Ibanez S series) the included adapter will not fit. You will need to buy a small patch cable/adapter. It sucks to pay $... for wireless headphones then find out you need to order a $3 adapter that should have probably been included with the headphones. But that is a very minor complaint. Maybe Sweetwater should just add that as a recommended item in the listing.

BOSS Katana WAZA Air HeadPhones

By Max T. from Ozark, AL USA
Music Background: Beginner

Absolutely the best Headphones I have ever owned. I have had 4 different types of wireless types from Seinhauser to Razor Brand and they are nice but nothing compaired to these and yes these are expensive but worth every penny. Also it doesn't mention the bonus that you can bluetooth too your computer, phone, car radios, etc and listen to your tunes that way also of which I found out by experimenting with them... This made the purchase even better for me! They have really good Bass and Treble reproduction and every thing is perfectl clear and not muffled at all! I can't wait to try them on my Roland RD-2000 Keyboard to see what they Sound like on it. I feel that they are a very good investment and would recommend them to anyone that is serious about their music and doesn't want to wake everyone up while playing. Beginner or Pro. Anyway Nuff Said!

One problem

By pete from VA beach

If you should want to plug the transmitter into the output of anything other than a guitar, the transmitter will go into sleep mode in apx 3 minutes. This effectively eliminates the possibility of using any of your existing effects, or anything else for that mater, with the Waza Air headphones. So if you can be happy using it with the only the Boss studio app, then you are good to go. But if you want to dial in your existing equipment for a live performance or just do some in home recording, the Waza air system is completely unusable. Even some of the U-tube reviews show examples of the reviewers doing this, however it would seem that they did not try it long enough for it to shut down.

Let me make this simple, you will never be able to sing into a mic and monitor yourself with the Waza air headphones
At nearly $... that is a severe limitation.

My belief is that the problem is caused by a motion sensor in the transmitter. for example; if I plug the transmitter into the output of my Boss RC-3 looper, it will go into sleep mode in the usual 3 min but if I move the physically move the RC-3, the transmitter will wake up again before shutting down 3 minutes later.

Seeing wireless Boss Katana Amp videos shows this to be an actual feature of the transmitter, so that one would not need to remove a transmitter from the guitar between practices. When the guitar is picked up, the transmitter wakes up.

However, these headphones sound so dang good, I almost kept them anyway. They were also very well made and quite comfortable for hours at a time. But I find them to be to expensive to justify their limited uses.

So what I needed was a pair of wireless head phones that would simply allow me to do anything I can do with a wired pair of headphones. I just want the freedom to walk around my room playing and listening to everything I normally use.
IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK! Well I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually. Until then, I'll just have to live with my old fashioned wired phones.

Amazing Headphones

By Sweetwater Customer

I am really impressed with the sound quality and capability of these headphones. Playing along with streaming music is a blast and the quality of effects is great (sounds better than my Boss GT-1). The only issue I have is there is some occasional sound drift in some of the sound position modes and I have to reset the position to maintain consistent sound when I move around. Not being tethered by a guitar cable or headphone cord is extremely convenient and I really enjoy practicing with this system. I would definitely recommend it!

Great headphone amp

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought one of these for Xmas, demo unit with a discount and warranty. My problem is I work nights and usually when I want to play I can't do it in a satisfactory way. Unplugged electric or acoustic. Rarely I'll find myself at home alone and I can plug in and make some noise without feeling like I'm bothering the family. So I bought the Waza Air. And problem solved. I have a good sounding practice solution and can jam along with mp3s or YouTube etc. It's great!

However, for the price...I think it could sound better. I enjoy it a lot. I play a lot more than I did. But it sounds like a processed guitar. With guitar volume dimed I get a lot of artifacts and noise that I don't get through a live rig. Fret rattle etc. It disappears if I back off a bit. Does this with all my guitars. Not a deal breaker but the noise is there. Some of the effects sound cheesy and artificial to me, so I stick with a little delay and that's about it. The spatial effects are useless in my opinion. I use surround and keep the ambience in studio and down all the way. And still with that there's more reverb and echo than I want. But overall I get a satisfying tone out of it. It occasionally loses the connection with the wireless but not too often. It's an amazing unit considering the whole thing is built into a comfortable set of phones. If lost I would buy another one. I'm excited to see where this goes in the future. It will only improve and more manufacturers will come up with headphone modelers. The Waza is a great start and does the job I bought it for. But has room for improvement and the price needs to come down a bit. That said it was worth the money to me.

These are badass

By Ben from Los Angeles
Music Background: Semi-professional

I love virtually everything about these. If I could change one thing, it would be the charging. I would have the guitar transmitter charge by connecting it to the headphone sync Jack so that one cable charges both - but that's a minor thing.

Outside of that, it really is amazing. Unnoticeable latency, sound quality and amp modeling is fantastic. Being able to spit a demo out to my phone and play along with it over and over is a great way to practice and write riffs.

I'm really loving it! Use it probably 1 - 2 hours a day in my apartment.

New Equipment

By Tom F.

I haven't had this much fun with new equipment in years. Being able to play my guitars with amplification & effects without anyone else disturbed by my playing is just great. I can do anything I want & turn it up to where it's comfortable for me without anyone being effected.

I am always concerned about others in the house when I'm practicing so this lets me do what ever I want. This is AWESOME!!!

The Greatest Invention of the 21st Century

By Sweetwater Customer

Ok so probably not, but this thing has been really good for me. No more cables or fiddling with headphones coming out of an amp. When you connect to your phone you can stream music, YouTube—whatever while playing. The problem is it is about as much as a amp. If you already have an amp and are looking for a wireless silent practice tool this is definitely it. Of course there are cheaper alternatives, but this does sound really good and it's wireless. It's perfect for anyone that lives in a apartment or lives with other people that don't want to hear you playing all the time. It sets up easily—literally plug and play. If you have any experience with the Katana line you should be able to navigate the app to create patches pretty easily.

Plug and play like you were on stage!

By Jan

Like many others, for me volume was an issue during the lockdowns, I ended up selling my guitar amp. After considering other modeling amps and even low watt tube amps, the waza air wireless technology and over 50 effects made it for me, specially knowing that the univibe and rotary speakers were included. Now I just plug them in and immediately have my hendrixy tone at full volume without disrupting anyone at home, my wife is equally as happy. They are pricey, but you get what you pay.

Waza-air

By Mark from Tennessee

Very satisfied with Sweetwater and ease of use in ordering this product, and great customer service they provided. Cliff did a great job in working with me when ordering, and shipping and receipt of item could not have been more seamless.

However not satisfied with this product.

When I initially was looking into this product I read the reviews and saw how many people were indicating they were having problems with bluetooth connectivity and the Tone Studio app. I thought surely Boss would've fixed any problems with the app present, so went ahead and purchased the product. Extremely disappointed in Boss not addressing these problems in a timely manner. The sound of these headphones are awesome. The lack of cords is really nice. But completely useless without the app working appropriately.

I am considering returning the product.

A Great Idea...Iffy Execution.

By Mike from Seattle area

I loved the idea of these.
Wireless headphones that you can stream music through and play along with. For someone like me, an intermediate guitarist that would like to goof around with backing tracks without disturbing the entire house; these seemed perfect. I frankly, didn't need the accelerometer that makes it sound like you are on stage or like your amp is in a stationary spot in a room while you move your head around. But I thought it was a cool idea.

Here are the drawbacks that caused me to send these back:
1. The built-in presets are not good. They sound like you are playing an amp in the middle of a high school gymnasium.
2. Editing the presets is way more complex than messing around with the Katana amp. (I love the Katana because of its simplicity.)
3. Tweaking tones and storing them in the headphones takes work.
4. Even after storing them on the headphones, some settings changed without being tweaked.
5. When you use any of the settings that use the accelerometer, it overexaggerates all movement. Just glancing at my left hand moves the amp sound to the opposite side of the room. And moving my head back does not always bring the sound back to normal.
6. The user interface is not intuitive at all. Navigating through it is just not simple. They could have made it more like the Fender app or the Marshall app that controls those amps, but it is messy.

All in all, it was more difficult than I thought to get a good tone. It was another step to store it on the headphones.

I will admit that when I created a good tone, the sound was good, but playing with a backing track would make me want to edit the tone to blend better with the track, and that was never an easy or fun task.

When I bought these, I just wanted to spend more time playing and enjoying the music. Instead, I just found myself spending too much time tweaking tones, or playing a with a tone I didn't like along with a backing track.

I returned mine and purchased an amp that I can plug headphones into. (Not wireless, but easier to use and tweak.)

a practice game changer

By Sweetwater Customer

One of the best pieces of gear I've acquired, ever. I just received it, set it up with a lap steel, an SG, and an electric violin (took less than half an hour) and ended up playing on it for the next two hours.

I can play at any hour without bothering anyone, I can play when I'm traveling, I can play to music, there are no cables to get tangled up in, there's no hardware tethering me to one spot. I've tried so many headphone solutions in the past that just didn't work out, what with all the cables/wires and the generally awful, ear-fatigue inducing sound. these headphones sound great, the sound really feels like it's in a space and not injected into your ears/head.

the feature where the sound source appears to be coming from one place when you move your head does suffer from drift and I don't find it particularly useful (maybe there will be some type of firmware update in the future to correct this), but the surround setting sounds great.

I've seen some complaints that it's not up to par with expensive rigs. sure, but so what. this is clearly a practice solution, and for that purpose it is really a game changer.

I've seen some complaints that it's too expensive. well, skill trumps gear any day of the week, and something that gets you practicing (and makes it fun) is worth more than any pile of tone-chasing gear.

First Impressions: AWESOME!

By Ned F. from Black Hawk, CO
Music Background: Blues and jazz

I just un-boxed my new Boss Waza Air Wireless Guitar Headphone Amp. It is literally plug-and-play. Turned on the headphones; plugged in the transmitter; VOILA! Beautiful tone with no wires. I've been using the Vox AC-30 wired headphone amp for many years. This Boss product blows it away. I'm so pleased!

Of course I have yet to put it through the paces, but I am wowed by my first impressions. I'll try to come back and give an update.

A Jester on a Tightrope; lipstick on a pig!

By tom L. from OR

I think this product tried to cover up it's unstable foundation with bells and whistles. I ended up returning these headphones because of the cumulation of glitchiness in one basic area: sound stability.
After fully charging both of them (which took hunting for two USB chargers and one micro USB cable so I could charge both simultaneously -- Boss only gives you one somewhat flimsy USB cable), here's the issues that annoyed me:
1) Static pops. There was a stream of noise, much like an old vinyl record.
2) Drifting sound stage: even sitting still, only moving my head when changing fretboard positions, the sound stage would drift to one side of my head. Rather quickly.
3) The transmitter would disconnect itself. In the one hour I gave it, it happened twice. Had to do the ritual of re-pairing it. Not fun.

There's a lot of AMAZING, WOW-FULL things to say about this headset, BUT. In my opinion, one uses something like this for grabbing, turning on, and playing. The constant re-setting of the sound field and bluetooth pairing negates the possible experience. And the popcorn static takes you away from what could have been a very, very immersive experience.

Dave Snow, my Sales Engineer, was on top of it as always, and set me up for a quick and easy return.

Waza-Air recording

By John from Penn Valley, PA

I've had my Waza-Air system since early September. They are great.

Here's a hack that will let you record. Normally, I use a wifi transmitter/receiver (see below) to connect my guitar to a Scarlet Solo, then to a Mac for recording. This is great, but you are locked into wired headphones.

However, for a true wireless system you can plug the Waza-Air transmitter into the Solo output & it works just like it was plugged in to the guitar, so you now use the Waza-Air headphones for a true wireless experience.

I've been using this for some time now, and it is great. True freedom to move about the cabin.

(W;ireless Guitar System - ZXK CO 5.8GHz Rechargeable Guitar Wireless Audio Transmitter Receiver / Amazon / &90 / works exactly as a cable). There are probably cheaper options by now.

The perfect practice amp

By Martin H. from Montana
Music Background: Long time player

I have had many different practice amps. Having lived in apartments, and houses with a new baby or light sleeping wife, practicing get late night was always a challenge. Some amps need to be cranked in order to get the tone you want, and most of my good amps didn't have a headphone jack. When I wanted to practice I had to get hooked up, plug in my headphones, and that was just to get the guitar sound. These things are great because, you can get the tones you want, it's all wireless, so no guitar cable, headphone cable, none of it. The function that lets me go to my iPad to dial up new tones, and also use Bluetooth to play along to jam track is just amazing. I can record an arrangement in Garage Band, then jam along with it to work out guitar parts is just fantastic. The only thing I wish you could do is be able to send the guitar sound out of the headphones instead of just Bluetooth in. I'm sure that will be in the next generation. As always, I purchased these from Sweetwater who seemed to be the only place you could get your hands on them. Since I discovered Sweetwater I shop nowhere else. As always the price was right and my sales associate Joe James is the best in the business. I have never met a sales guy like him. I truly trust him to give me an honest opinion about the gear I'm looking at. If you are new to Sweetwater give Joe a call. He is a extremely professional sales associate. Thanks again Sweetwater!

Amazing sound!

By Sweetwater Customer

actually sound better than my regular amp and definitely sound better than my amp when I plug in an headphones... the app is super easy to understand and the headphones are basically working as soon as you plug them to the guitar. I love to play at night so those were a perfect fit for me, now I can play as loud as I want without interrupting anybody. It would've been nice if there was an option to record with them, even just an output jack

Great idea!

By Leremy from sacramento
Music Background: advanced musician

Let's start with the bad since that is what you're researching to find out. I will say that I really like using these headphones, but I gave it a 3 star because the distortion sounds like garbage. It has every adjustment possible on here but there is a sound on the distortion channels that makes them sound almost like there's an electronic short or something. Not sure. I have started shutting all fx off and plugging into the headphone out jack on my line 6 spider amp. Sounds so much better. Although, for some reason the transmitter cuts out a lot, but it may be due to interference from my wifi router or something. And like everyone else is saying, the gyro thing drifts and can get annoying. Not too bad if you're playing while standing or sitting in a swivel chair so you can move along with tge drift. You can always shut that feature off but you lose some of tge experience that you buy these for.

Now for the good. For those of you that like playing on a clean channel, these sound amazing. You literally feel the open space of being in a venue playing live. It's great. There are a ton of fx once you learn the platform. It took me a while to get the hang of the way it's laid out. Im not illiterate when it comes to fx units either. Once you figure out the whole layout there's a lot to choose from. Overall there is a lot of technology in these headphones. They really need to come out with a second generation that fixes the issues I've stated though. I appreciate the live experience and all that, but... a lotta money for a pair of headphones to find so many negative issues. They are certainly on the right track and I would certainly buy the next generation, but with this gen, though I really like them, i find myself determined to find a solution to the issues I have with them. Because I like rock and metal, it's not enough to use them as is, and that sucks! I have a wireless transmitter for my amp, so if I plug the waza transmitter into the headphone jack of my amp instead of my guitar, and then plug my amps wireless transmitter into my guitar, I can have much better distortion channel options and still be wireless. Now if I can figure out how to keep the transmitter from interruptions I'd be set. If Boss would have put good distortion channels on these I would have given them a 5 star even with the other issues. The distortion literally sounds like garbage and I'm really not that picky.

Springboard to the future

By Sweetwater Customer from Denver
Music Background: I kinda stink but have fun

I love these, but I will love the next generation product that these influence more. These are nice and they get me playing a lot more. I find myself sitting on my front porch a lot lately. Being able to be wireless without wires and dongles going into an iPad, unnoticeable latency, and the ability to stream backing tracks or songs while playing is magnificent. Being able to play anywhere, and not be wired to my Axe FX in my basement is wonderful. I think these are the first generation of a new product and I will get my money's worth out of them, until BOSS or someone else (c'mon Fractal) makes a better version.

So for the negative - the app is really clunky and poorly designed and the tones are mediocre at best. I admit I am spoiled as I've spent the past year playing through flat headphones connected to a mixer which is connected to my Axe FXIII and a MacPro. The tones on here can't even come close to what the Fractal can give, but they are better than mobile apps like Amplitude etc. The stage and static modes are annoying (see other reviews) and I just keep it in surround mode.

So why 4/5 stars if I don't like the app and the tones are kinda blah? Because it is super simple to use, and it gets me playing more and in places where I normally wouldn't. I've ran around my back yard at 11pm with a Les Paul jamming with live Metallica and sat on my front steps with a strat playing with Eric Clapton. I've brought a guitar and sat in my van playing while my kids are at hockey or golf practice and can walk around the house noodling. I even have a bad gash on my favorite strat's headstock from hitting it against a door after one too many cold ones on a Saturday night. Whenever I put these on, I dont mess with the tone for more than 30 seconds, because there aren't many playable ones. I just play. I don't tweak. It is literally plug and play, and for that I love them. Let me say it again.... I ...just...play.

BOSS and other companies will use this as a spring board to better wireless plug and play headphones. If Fractal made something like this and incorporated some of the AXE presets, I would pay double. I guess this is the new Rockman, and I can't wait for what this product influences in the future.

Tone 3/5
App 2/5
Headphones 3.5/5
Enjoyment 5/5

Oh did I mention my wife loves the too (she is sick of listening to me hack on an acoustic guitar on the porch)?

Needs software support that should come with a $... set of bluetooth headphones

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased these from Sweetwater in 1/2020

Pros:
Sounds good (when it's working)
Headphones are comfortable even on larger heads

Cons:
Zero support from Boss/Roland
Bluetooth audio is flakey at best. At worst it's pure garbage
No way to replace batteries. When they die you're SOL
Expensive for how poorly if works

Idea is great. The execution isn't! It Can take many tries to get the bluetooth audio connection to show up. It took me 14 tries (was about to give up and send unit back for refund). Backing track will just stop working 5min into playing. At this point it takes several disconnect/reconnect attempts to get it going again, if it does get going again. The guitar audio will randomly stop working 10-30min in. It's as if the battery dies but it's not dead. If you want to play for an hour you'll spend 30-45min screwing around with these things while getting maybe 10-15min of play time. I'm an IT pro, so it's not like I don't know how to use technology. Terrible bluetooth/software implementation. (At least for iOS it is) It's been 9 months with zero software/firmware updates. No idea if or when Boss will update/fix this mess. I know several people with the same issues I have. My friend that recommended these uses Android devices and doesn't have these issues it seems. YMMV. Another example of releasing products on marketing timelines and not waiting for the developers to get it working well. Boss has lost a 30+ year customer because of this one.

Great for practice

By Zack from Richmond, VA
Music Background: amateur with 37 years experience

I've had these headphones/amp for about three weeks. I'm still learning how to use the Waza-Air app. The amp sounds are great. The overdrive and crunch channels sound great, with good distortion and articulation. It's easy to dial in a higher gain overdrive. I'm still working on a lower-gain overdrive (a blues tone).

I do notice the drift mentioned in other reviews while using the stage setting. It does not bother me.

I've had no issues with the bluetooth connection.

I am struggling a little with the app. I'm specifically having some difficulty learning how to dial in specific effects for each channel. The app wants to put delay on all channels and I'm learning how to remove it..

All in all, I think these headphones are a great practice tool. They have a lot of features for the price.

Started off great then...

By Kurt Z. from Derby, CT

I bought these thinking these would solve my wanting to play with some volume while living in an apartment. They worked great at first but then they developed some issues mentioned in other reviews like being a pain to connect and bluetooth dropping out. Those I could live with but now I get static distortion when playing that drives me nuts. doesn't make any difference what room I'm in it follows me everywhere. Checked the FAQ's and for firmware updates but wasn't' able to solve the problem. So they're back in the box in that closet I don't use much and will be staying there until some archeologist uncovers them in the far distant future.

Believe the Hype....

By M. H. from Ringgold

Until you've actually heard these headphones, it's impossible to understand how good they really are. Yes, there are aggravating moments where you'll be disconnected, but sadly this experience is normal with Bluetooth connections. It doesn't happen often, only takes a second to re-connect and your'e good to go. I would love it more if the battery lasted longer than four or five hours, but the ability to stream music while simultaneously playing is pure heaven. One thing I want to point out for those that pick this up....out of the box you cannot get the headphones to play music and it's almost maddening as the instructions don't address it.

So, when you purchase these (and you'd be crazy not to based on my experience) you'll note that on one side of the headset you have the power switch. The other ear cup has a button that slides up and down, presumably for Bluetooth synch. In order to get the headphones to connect for Bluetooth Audio functionality you have to push that button, not up or down, but IN for just a couple of seconds. Once you do, it'll pop up a message that audio is activated and voila you can now listen to music as well.

Hopefully that saves someone from the headache I had to trying to figure it out.

All in all I can't imagine trying to play guitar without a pair of these around. Whether you live in an apartment, have a need to play late at night without disturbing the family, etc, these are must have for when you need to block out the world and just focus on playing.

GREAT HEADPHONES

By Sweetwater Customer

I really like these headphones. They make playing with headphones more enjoyable. The sound is amazing and they are comfortable to wear for long periods. I had no problem with connecting or staying connected to Bluetooth. I really like you can play to a backing track simultaneously thru these and they are easy to operate. However, like other reviewers, I didn't care for the instruction sheet (Confusing & Cumbersome) and there is a problem with drifting. By drifting I mean, when the sound is supposed to be sounding like it's behind you in stage mode, the sound may gradually move to your left, then in front of you, then to your right and then gradually behind you again. The sound Gradually moves clockwise by itself. It really doesn't bother me that much since it's a gradual shift, but given the price, by now they should have fixed this before further distribution. Especially, since others have been complaining about this problem. Also, you have to charge the transmitter and headphones separately. If you want to change them at the same time you will need another charging cable. At any rate, they are great headphones with a few minor problems. Hence my reason for only 4 stars. No other headphones like them on the market to my knowledge so I'm very happy I got them.

Not one but TWO (02) Boss Waza Air...

By Carlo from Lawrenceville, GA
Music Background: Amateur guitar player

I got 2 units (purchased on 05/12 and 07/07 this year, with Kevin Samuel... Excellent service, by the way).
The whole idea is just great, but, Bluetooth dropping signal is an issue I experienced with my firs unit, using my android cellphone (Galaxy Note 10+), then, I used it with my iPad, same problem.
I decided to buy another one, to compare... unfortunately, the problem remains.
Then, too late, I read some reviews here @ Sweetwater and learned that it is a common problem... so, I guess I will have to deal with it, at least until they improve the devices or the app (software / firmware).
I will keep both, because I think, regardless of the known issue, I can have one @ home and one @ my office... :)
Good luck to you all.

Seems to drop Bluetooth connection a lot. Nice other than that issue but this is an issue.

Excellent

By Dennis K. from Brentwood, CA

I went back and forth about this purchase. Will it sound good or be loud enough, will there be some latency? I love the freedom and my ears are ringing when I'm done after 2 or 3 hours of going to my "Loud" place! I can't wait to load in backing tracks. Most fun I've had in years and I can play anytime "I feel like playing" not just when my wife's gone. It feels like you're hearing yourself playing on a stage and you're in the audience, and that's a good thing. Glad I pulled the trigger on these.

Mostly as advertised

By Chris M. from Thurmont, MD
Music Background: 40 years before the mast

I use this rig with a strat, two les pauls, a tele, but not my caparisons. The build of the transmitter prevents use in offset jacks. Otherwise, the unit works as stated. It's basically a katana in headphones. I've been using it on stage setting with backing tracks or radio through an android unit and it works just as in the videos. The only drawback it has so far is that it will, for no apparent reason, drop the transmitter blue tooth signal. This just requires unplugging and reconnecting the transmitter from the guitar jack. Annoying, but certainly not fatal. It's never dropped the android bluetooth. Be aware that when setting up initially that there are TWO bluetooth signals, one for the transmitter and the second for audio. All in all, money well spent.

Really Amazing.

By Tom H. from Ann Arbor, MI
Music Background: Rhythm guitar in a band decades ago.

Consider this a 4-and-a-half star rating. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I live in an apartment, and although I have a small practice amp. This gives me the opportunity to play without worrying about volume (aside from ear safety). Even more than that, I really wanted the ability to go completely wireless while practicing through headphones. There doesn't appear to be any way to do that less expensively without encountering audio delay. I'm not rating it 5 stars because Boss really should have included a case, and the instructions in the box are cheap and not befitting the price tag. I found the "explainer" video on YouTube to be the most helpful. I'm still exploring the audio app functions. So far I'm very satisfied with that as well.

To search is over

By Billy from Redondo Beach, Ca.
Music Background: I have had a guitar in my life from age 9. Phsical limitations have slow/restricted my abilities but not my love for making cool noise that moves people. Or passing on my knowlege to those more capable than myself.

I have spent much time and money trying to find quality headphone for my guitar playing. I found some, that with the right interface, sounded pretty good (studio quality) but was still lacking n some way I just couldn't put my finger on. Then came the Waza Air that was designed specifically for guitar (instruments) and the game changed forever. I am not a pro, nor do I even play in a band but, playing for about 45 years (with physical limitations), I have however developed an ear for what sounds and feels good. There is no equal to using pro grade equipment even if you are not a pro. This piece of tech has brought it all together. I have a few half stacks not because I play loud or have large venues. I have them because, even at low volumes, nothing moves air the way multiple large speakers do. The Waza Air replicates this effect above and beyond what could ever expect. This is but the first iteration f this tech. I can't wait to see how they might build upon this already awesome platform.

I also did some experimenting with pedals. It works great with your favorite pedals. Even though the available FX from the Waza Air app leave little for want.

Six out of five stars.

Give this more time before buying

By James W. from NJ
Music Background: 30 years playing/writing/recording

This product is a great idea - unfortunately its not ready.
I'm a gear junkie and know my way around connections, wired, wireless, in this case Bluetooth.
I downloaded instructions (not included) from Boss - there is a specific sequence to connect. I followed that and success! .. one song. Then it disconnected. See pic below. Reset everything, followed instructions and success! ... this time it lasted maybe 5 notes before I got the same message. I did this about 5x. Turn off / Bluetooth forget device / etc. Basically it's wireless headphones without a stable connection to the app to control it. The app is where the magic is supposed to happen. I am running a newer iPad with the latest rev iOS.

Finally put it back in the box and figured this wasn't meant to be. This is too expensive and too much of a luxury item to need this much attention. This was released prematurely. It isn't stable. I gave this an entire afternoon to get working. Too much trouble. And if the reason is that all Bluetooth devices within a 100 mile radius need to be off, it's not ready.

These absolutely Rock! But...

By Brian from Rotonda West, Fl
Music Background: 20+ years playing guitar and hacking around with other instruments

If i could give a more accurate rating, i'd give these a 4.9. This has got to be one of my favorite musical items that i own. Here's what I love about the Waza Air's.

Love

Super Easy to set up. Literally, plug and play.

The built-in standard effects (though only a handful) sound really amazing.

No noticeable latency

Super Good quality build.

Really comfortable to wear

Love the bluetooth connect to my Iphone so i can jam along to my tunes or learn some tracks!

—————-——————
Don't Love

Wish it would get just a hair louder. (My personal preference since i have a 9 month old and very seldom to i ever get to really crank up)

Lastly, I have only been playing around with these for only a few hours now but they have cut out on me a few times. I had to pull the transmitter out of the guitar jack and plug it back in to get it reconnected. Hoping this isn't a problem going forward. I can live with the current volume and sound but it'll drive me crazy if the cutting out gets worse.

Overall, it exceeded my expectations and I am really stoked to have them!

I also want to give a shout out to Geoffrey and the team at Sweetwater. Their customer service is outstanding and has been since i first purchased from them 10 or 11 years ago.

Disappointing

By Brian M. from Florida

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. If I am I will come in and update my review, but as it stands these headphones have some serious issues. I just got these today and have spent a while playing with them.
They connect and stay connected fairly well, but if they do lose connection you will most likely have to turn them off and reconnect everything again. You have to connect the wireless receiver, your phone for audio and the app for head tracking, so it is a bit of a chore each time you go to use them to get everything working.
The virtual stage feature is very cool and the main selling point for this system, but unfortunately it drifts around a lot. It will sound like the audio is coming from behind you, but if you turn your head around or walk around at all the sound will drift to the side and eventually in front of you and then to the other side. It is not consistent and breaks the illusion it is trying to build when it happens.
These are just not ready for release yet and are really not wort the money at this point.

Wow!!!

By Jon from Las Vegas
Music Background: Recreational

Got mine from Sweetwater last week. Holy crap, this product is awesome. Wonderful sounds, crazy 3D spatial modeling, effects, BT headphone so you can play along, etc. Will not disappoint. Only gripe is the iPhone/iPad interface. It is designed by engineers in my opinion, not musicians. Kind of 'sterile' in presentation and layout. Excellent engineers, but a more artful/intuitive interface would be appreciated. Buy it now.

Pretty amazing!

By Ari B. from Carlsbad, CA

Been playing guitar for about 18 years and have never experienced a headphone system for guitar like the waza air. Upon opening the box I was a little disappointed in the way they system felt...plastic and toy like when compared to other studio headphones I own... But as soon I plugged the little transmitter into my guitar and played a few riffs I was blown away at the huge "in a room" sound that I was hearing and feeling!!!! So sort of witchcraft are in these cans. If you're looking for an amazing and super fun way to practice then don't even hesitate and just buy these...they are that good! Well done Boss!! One gripe though is the ear pads/cups are shallow and my ear basically touches the beautiful huge drivers...not a huge deal though.

BOSS Waza-Air

By David F. from Bonham, TX
Music Background: Every time I think I'm good I get humbled by someone better.

Wow! I'm actually stunned that this became reality. I can't remember if it was 6 or 9 months ago I sent out a global email message to Shure, AKG, Sennheiser and Roland looking for what I considered to be the Holy-Grail for guitar practice. Shure came back thanking me for my suggestion for a new product but no one else did. My request was for a no latency analog RF headphone system I could use to practice late at night because I have children in school and can't be blasting an amp at midnight. I had some hopes with Shure because of their work 2with in-ear monitors. Just put the belt-pack receiver into a set of headphones. That didn't work out so well. My real hope was Roland because I said in my email my late-night practice rig included a Boss GT-100 and a Digitech Trio+. So, here we are with the Waza-Air. No body can be more surprised than me to see this actually becoming a real product. Is this product something I had influence in developing... maybe and I really don't care. This is something I needed that I asked Roland for and here it is. I am truly stoked and I am placing my pre-order as soon as I get off here. To the Roland/Boss product development engineers I say thank you. This product is something I have been searching for for a long time and now it is real. I honestly can't wait to get my hands on an actual system. This will be a God-send for me... and my family. Thanks again, Dave.

App is garbage headphones are nice

By Blake from Poolesville, MD
Music Background: Guitarist

The headphones are a great idea and in theory i want to love them. The silent practice aspect is wonderful, but the app controls everything. Library, tone controls, presets, even the tuner really does better with the app.

The app keeps crashing on me and the bluetooth connection keeps dropping out and now the headphones wont even reconnect to the app.

As much as i love the idea of this, i couldnt get the app to respond correctly to use the headset for more than 30 min.

Additionally the tone coming out of them is great, until you start digging in on the guutar and then its all fizzle and guitar breakup that doesnt feel or sound natural at all.

This couldve been great, but instead its been rushed for NAMM and needed alot of debugging before it hit the market.

Sweetwater has been awesome as always and my salesperson Adam Vaughn got me the headphones sooner than I thought theyd be coming to me. Its a shame theyre just not a good fit, because Sweetwater and Adam are great.

Maybe if the app worked better Id feel differently, but until then these are getting returned

Mixed Bag

By Mark from TX
Music Background: Semi-Pro

Initially I thought it sounded great. No matter what I try the app will not connect from my phone to the headset. I was stuck in the mode of the amplifier being in a fixed point in the room. Every time I turned my head the sound would change which is fine but I could not get the app to work to turn it off or to modify any sounds. I ended up returning it due to its inability function correctly. If you happen to get one that correctly functions as it should be in your opinion may vary from mine and my experience.

Incredible practice tool. Great tones.

By Scott from Atlanta, GA

I was set on getting a Yamaha THR wireless, but decided on the Waza Air immediately when I saw it. These headphones are exactly what I needed. Perfect for jamming on the couch to a backing track while not disturbing the family. The setup is easy. I haven’t dug too deep into the tone center app, but it does more than enough for my needs. I even paired it with an RC-1 loop pedal and it works flawlessly (Note - you will need to change a setting for the wireless transmitter in the app, so it doesn’t automatically turn off). If you’re looking for a small setup that gives excellent tones to practice and jam, this is it.

Boss Waza Air

By Mark from San Antonio
Music Background: Wanna be Rock Star!

Once I figured out that the Waza Air headphones will not connect to the Waza Air app when "developer mode" is enabled on your device I was able to enjoy the headphones. I didnt see that warning in the instructions. I have tried them as a blue tooth headphone and all guitar amp modes. I have connected to 4 devices and would recommend the one with the larger screen. If there is a landscape mode I cant find it. Everything else about the headphones is great. Not heavy, very comfortable. Can get warm with extended use. The sound is great. Too many options to go over. Tone Studio has a few downloads. I wish the wireless dongle charged while docked in the headphones without the extra USB charging cable. Battery life is good.

The best practice with headphones I had found

By Alfredo O. from Miami
Music Background: Guitar player

There are several situations where I need to practice using headphones. An obvious one is practicing at late (or early) hours at night. Another is a training session I go to once a month. I have never found a sound that I like through headphones. There was always some noise or issues with tone or volume that I couldn't solved. Until now. The Boss Waza Air solve all my problems, plus it allowed me to practice with ease in new places (my balcony is my new favorite) and I only have to bring a wireless unit and, of course, a pair of headphones.

I found the sounds and options of the Waza Air to be perfect for me. As a matter of fact, like the time so much I bought a Katana Air. The versatility of time plus the ability to place the amp or use the stage option to hear all sound as if it where behind you is great.

While I haven't mind the problems of the amp position drifting (it can be recentered easily anyway) I did found a couple of small issues. One is the headphone jack in the headphones. It's only for pairing, not for charging or other uses. I found that somewhat disappointing. Actually, I think it would be better if it wasn't there and pairing could be achieved some other way. The options of changing the tone without the app are a little complicated for me and it means several control in the headphones that together with the jack break the design purity of the hardware.

All in all, I'm delighted with this product. I would recommend it to anyone that has an application for it.

At 44:48 you can see below my video review of the product (in Spanish)

Excellent practice tool with one minor flaw

By Will from Boise, ID

I've had these headphones now for a few days and I'm very impressed. As a practice tool for someone in a small apartment or with a family they are great. The headphone quality is awesome and the ear pads have been comfortable enough. The sound quality is much better than jacking headphones into a regular amp. The only missed opportunity to point out is that the wireless adaptor does not charge when plugged in to the headphones. You have to charge both pieces separately.
Overall, I'm very pleased and these will be getting a lot of use.

OK, but somewhat overhyped

By Jacek from Houston, TX
Music Background: Metal, alternative

Is this an innovative product that opens up a whole new range? Yes, definitely.
Is it useful and makes silent practice easier? Absolutely.
The integration of the headphones and wireless guitar receiver is an amazing idea.

But does it really sound like "amp in a room"?

Not quite. It's basically just the standard Boss amp models, with a bit of room reverb and surround added in.
The features like the amp moving in the space when you move your head is really just a gimmick and a pretty useless one. You will most likely switch it to Surround mode and keep it there, since that sounds best.
And the "State" setting (that is supposed to sound like a band playing behind you)...honestly, another gimmick that sounds so-so.

The main reason I actually returned this unit is because the software effects in it do NOT include a noise gate. So any high gain patch (a Tube Screamer into a high gain amp) are just a wall of noise between notes, even with active pickups. There is no way to tame it.

You cannot load your own IRs, you get 3 cabs included and you have to use the same one across ALL 3 channels. You can't have a different cab per channel.

I think this is a really promising idea from Boss but just the last few less than ideal details (like lack of noise gate) made it less than perfect. So I returned mine after a week.

So much potential but a bit buggy

By Cali L. from St Petersburg, FL
Music Background: 30+ year hobbiest

I was pretty excited to receive these but after a bit of use, I am very disappointed. They are comfortable and the potential is amazing. The available features are outstanding but the implementation is poor.

The internal gyroscope which is to set the sound stage orientation keeps creeping around in a clockwise fashion so the amp keeps moving around your head. This is not an issue if you just use surround sound or turn off feature all together but that is not why I bought these.

Then, the available Android software and Bluetooth integration is very buggy. Bluetooth keeps disconnecting when I try to pick different amps from the library or change certain setting and re-pairing the phone to the headsets is a real pain. Turn off headset, shut down app, remove headset from device list and start over. I have a very reliable Google Pixel 3XL so the phone is not the issue. I'm also very technically inclined as a Software Architect for a living.

At this time, I cannot recommend these headphones and will probably be returning them.

Perfect!

These headphones are a game changer. The sound quality is outstanding, they’re very comfortable, and the app is intuitive. I just stopped playing after about three hours of silently jamming along to various album cuts and backing tracks. I’m already looking forward to getting up before my wife and son tomorrow, grabbing a cup of coffee, and settling in for some slow blues jams to start the day. Now if Boss could integrate the ability to change the speed, loop, and pitch change from the JS-10...
