Leslie 147 Rotary Speaker Cabinet Emulation Plug-in - AAX, AU, VST3, UAD-2

The iconic 3D whirl, breakup, and grit of a Leslie rotary speaker cabinet equate to one of music history’s most esteemed studio effects. It has inspired a ton of clones throughout the years, but ponder this question: why settle for an approximation when you can have the sound of the real thing? That’s precisely what you’ll get with the Universal Audio UAD Waterfall Rotary Speaker. UA’s talented group of DSP engineers has bottled every nuance of an authentic 1974 vintage Leslie 147 rotary speaker cabinet, complete with its characteristic nonlinear tube power amp saturation and distortion, genuine speaker breakup, tonal range, and unmistakable 3D whirl — all captured by expertly placed mono and stereo classic mic setups. Expanded controls allow you to make fine belt tension adjustments for the Leslie’s rotating horn and drum, adjust pulley selections for the horn’s rotational speed, and control acceleration and deceleration rates for each. Topped off by more than 40 presets and MIDI-mapped parameters for real-time control, the UAD Waterfall Rotary Speaker is the ticket to obtaining legendary Leslie sound on organs, guitars, and much more!

Great Emulator!

By Jacob G. from Keshena, WI

Great plugin with plenty of options and just about everything you'd need for running something through a leslie.

Dispite what's someone else my claim, you can choose stereo and mono micing and even blending this signals.

Nothing can beat the really thing but in a mix, this comes close.

The best software or hardware emulation ever.

By Jason P. from NEWYORK

i've been playing Hammond, both Tone wheel and digital modeling rigs for half of my life.
doubt that this Leslie plug-in is the most realistic emulation next to a real Leslie pushing air. The drive and Tone as well as how it handles upper frequencies is really spot on. currently running a Crumar Mojo into Motion M2 interface into a FRFR Fender cab (mono)- Knocks it out of the park. Stereo is even better . I've tried everything from the NEO Instruments Ventilator to internal leslies in keyboards and nothing comes close.

Leslie Doppler Effect

By Stephen W. from Florida
Music Background: 50 years recording and mastering engineer. Inventor of sound equipment and company manufacturing same. See Wikipedia under my name.

I have no experience with the UAD Waterfall device, but I have much experience recording the Leslie speaker over many years and in many recording session settings. I can tell you that you cannot capture what is called "the Leslie sound" with only one microphone on the top and one on the bottom elements. The Leslie sound is created by the Doppler shift. The Doppler shift can only be captured using a stereo pair of microphones for each top and bottom element. That's four microphones or two stereo pairs. The Doppler effect is a phase-shift effect, not an amplitude-difference effect. Using only two mics, top and bottom, only captures a volume rise and fall or tremolo, i.e. a rapid reiteration of amplitude change. The Leslie Speaker takes advantage of the Doppler effect by using an electric motor to rotate an acoustic horn around a loudspeaker, sending its sound in a circle. This results at the listener's ear in rapidly fluctuating frequencies of a keyboard note or vibrato. This vibrato effect can only be fully captured using two microphones spaced some distance apart and not-too-close to the Leslie itself. The Leslie speaker sound requires stereophonic recording and reproduction in order to be reproduced as if live. It cannot be captured using only monophonic microphones as shown in your photos.
