Just what I needed

By Karl from Orlando and Ohio
Music Background: Classical vocal and piano training but also play rock/pop and gig at churches

I wanted a portable but sturdy stand for gigging with one keyboard, a pricey Nord Stage 2 with 73 keys. This "medium-format" stand is sturdier than it looks and folds up to a portable shape small enough that I can leave it in the car. The simple lines are more attractive than the massive "X" or "Z" stands. I would not recommend the small size for a longer keyboard. The only downside is that there are no fine height adjustments on the feet to balance it on an uneven surface like the ground.

I bought this as a table for my friend to place his dobro on. It's perfect! Thankyou!

Stand Up!

By JT H. from Cazenovia, NY
Music Background: Long time musician.

My PA components-mixing board/power amp/CD player/cables etc.-are all mounted in a hefty protective road case, heavy enough to require two of us to lift it comfortably. We use the WS8540 to support this unit on stage. The rock-solid construction and adjustability make this stand ideal for our purposes. Loaded up (at it's lowest height adjustment) the unit is totally secure and wobble-free. One asterisk* TheSweetwater web site lists the weight capacity at 300 pounds-the manufacturer lists it (on the box it came in) at 250-not that that matters. Reconfigured this unit will easily support any single keyboard (we tried it) without any issues.

Solid Utilitarian Stand

By Robert I. from Columbus, OH
Music Background: Self-Administered Music Therpay

Yeah, it's a stand, but a very versatile and mine is rock solid and it was a demo SW had on sale. May consider another in future. As always, Nick LaMendola at SW is great. Fast shipping. Candy!

Easy to travel

By Carol T. from New London, Ohio
Music Background: Several gigs a month

I bought this to use for traveling gigs. It is lighter and easy for me to manage. Works great with my PSR-S950 keyboard.

Nearly Perfect Keyboard/Equipment Stand

By Terry from Nashville, TN USA
Music Background: Music/Audio Professional

These stands are fantastic. Provides a sturdy, compact, flat surface for small audio consoles, equipment racks or digital pianos/keyboards in a studio. Very easy to use and adjust while not loaded. Minor drawbacks to this stand are:

1) Width/depth - For beefy 88-key keyboards on stage, or larger audio consoles, you'd probably want to go with its big brother, the WS8550. Of course, that's why they have two options in this design.

2) Lack of expandability - I believe there were some available attachments/extensions for a 2nd tier and other options when QuikLok manufactured this design. But from what I can tell, this design is currently limited to single tier applications.

If a width/depth adjustable model that maintained stability, and offered optional attachements like a 2nd tier, laptop holder, etc., that would warrant my 5-star rating. But I have absolutely NO complaints with this stand.

One nice stand!

By Eric H. from Upstate New York
Music Background: Pro Musician / Worship Leader

This stand does what it was intended to do. It is easy to set up, has nice adjustments, and is very solid. I use it to hold my 6 space rack and for that, it works great!

Great Idea. Poor quality

By Sweetwater Customer

The plastic end pieces on the legs all fell out, the thumb button for height adjustment broke and the legs no longer stay in the frame. However, the frame itself works nicely. Luckily it is the right height for me. I threw the legs out and just use the T frame.

Worth the little cash it costs

By John from Arroyo Grande, Ca
Music Background: player/composer

Excillent stand and due to design will support all odd designs of synths/piano. Use it on a Korg M3_88 and it has an open back frame but the stand configures perfectly to adjust and support the big guy firmly.
very well made

OnStage WS8540 stand

By Custer-dome from LA, CA
Music Background: Pro

Can you say, "Made In China"? OK, we all buy products made in China and don't have problems with most of them, but recent news has made me wonder! To be fair, OnStage generally makes decent products, but when I opened the box and removed the stand, as soon as I extended one leg, the metal button-stop used for leg-height-adjustment broke off (it cannot be re-attached - they use a cheap spot-weld). I pictured this scenario happening with my expensive rack gear perched atop the stand and suffice it to say it was not a comforting feeling. Fortunately Sweetwater came to the rescue and offered to overnight me a replacement leg (you guys rock!). However, the fact that a warranty was nowhere to be found (not on the box or in the box nor on the OnStage website) does not inspire confidence in this company. I guess I'll take my chances with the replacement leg, but buyer beware!
