Great workstation desk

By Caven H. from LINTON, IN
Music Background: Song writer/producer/performer

I love this desk. It's very sturdy and is the perfect size for what I needed. I've had it about 3 or more years and have moved to different homes with it and it was easy to move and fit through all doors nicely. I do own the side attachment also and like the extra space it provides but it's a lil flimsy compared to just the desk. Any time you move the desk the side attachment has to be removed or you'll bend the bracket all up. Other than that I still give 5 stars but probably wouldn't buy the attachment next time however the desk is so sturdy there should never need to be a next time purchase. lol.. thanks to Mitch daisy for being such a great knowledgeable sales rep. He's the best!!

Perfect small studio desk

By Russ S. from East Peoria Illinois
Music Background: Metal band for 10 yrs, numetal dj, rap dj, edm producer

I absolutely love the quality and size of this desk. I really like that you can add on to this desk as your studio grows or get a chance to move to a larger space. Every add on has been great quality with no complaints as I have added the rack and corner pieces. Thank you Sweetwater and my sales rep Derek!

My First Workstation...

By charlie from leesburg, ga
Music Background: Professional

After 50 years of gigging I thought I'd better do some recording if I wanted to leave something behind that I could be proud of. So, I jumped into it with my awesome rep Mr. Andy and he got me going on what I needed to get started. A little tough to assemble as I found myself being a contortionist trying to assemble pieces as how I perceived them on the drawing provided. Nonetheless, fully assembled and functional. Very sturdy and substantial. Chose black to match up with my other gear. Solid investment IMO.

Worst desk I’ve ever had

Terrible build quality, keyboard tray doesn't work, whole ark is falling apart. Huge waste of money and the worst desk I've ever had I wish I got an acme furniture desk.

Great little workstation!

By Emilio C. from Mount Vernon NY
Music Background: Guitar and music production

I love it. I use a Komplete s49 controller and right to my left I fit the Apollo 4x, fits perfectly. Plenty of room for a 30 inch monitor on the 2nd tier with 2 IK i loud speakers.. the new Mac studio fits perfect to the right and the optional 1 space rack fits my black lion power supply to keep everything plugged in clean and neat. The slide out computer keyboard tray has great width and downsizing from a muck larger set up this is the ideal desk to do it with not to mention for the price it's build quality is top notch and the desk can be expanded with available options…

Mostly OK, but incredibly cheap hardware

By Rob K. from Seattle, WA

If it wasn't so difficult to return, I would have returned it immediately. The sliding hardware for the keyboard shelf fell apart on installation - it's just ball bearings barely held in place by a thin metal bracket. I have my studio torn apart and am getting no work done while Sweetwater is trying to source a replacement bracket, which doesn't appear to be easy. They could have saved me a lot of bother if they'd just spend a couple more pennies on some slightly beefier hardware, but this apparently is not the way of Chinese manufacturing. I would have been a lot happier if I had bought something local so I could see what I was getting and more easily return it if it turned out to be sub-par.

A solid desk for musicians/producers.

By Kenzy M.
Music Background: Young Musician who loves music and tech

I've gone through my fair share of desks over the years and the On-Stage desk is my favorite so far. While it isn't the largest desk, it's ergonomic design really makes up for it. On-Stage has definitely put some thought into making a desk that is portable yet large enough to fit the majority of equipment a producer/musician uses.

The middle compartment (the larger part of the desk) fits my keyboard perfectly. Whenever I use it to practice I simply pull it to the front of the desk, and push it to the back of the desk when I'm done practicing. This method of holding my keyboard is much more convenient than a regular keyboard stand that most people use.

The mouse and keyboard tray isn't necessarily my favorite, as the compartment is very narrow and confined which can get annoying when using the mouse for things like gaming. Another thing I don't like about it is that the pull out compartment's quality is horrible. It's good for the first month, but it eventually wears out due to the amount of times you will push and pull the tray.

The top part of the desk is probably my favorite part. It can fit multiple things without having to sacrifice the other parts of the desk. You can fit studio monitors, displays, computers, mic boom arms, and more.

Overall I love this desk and it is definitely worth it for the price. If you are a producer/musician who needs an ergonomic desk that can fit most of your equipment, this is definitely the desk you should buy.

Technically a Desk; Overpriced and Poorly Made.

By JohnB from Virginia

I've had this desk for about three years now. It's okay, but because it's a "music workstation desk", the price is severely jacked up.

If you're thinking about buying the rack add-on later: After the first two years I decided to buy the under-the-top-shelf 2U rack add-on. I installed the add-on but when I went to install items into the rack I realized nothing would fit. It turned out that the top shelf had a manufacturing defect that had the pieces where the screws for the rack add-on screwed in moved about two inches too far from the other. Luckily I was just within my two year warranty from Sweetwater and they made everything right. Also, the top 1U of the rack can only support a shallow rack item because of the cross beam for supporting the shelf.

If you're thinking about buying the leaf add-ons later: Don't. They ship in the manufacturer's box and On-Stage does not know how to safely package MDF boards. If you really want them, reach out to a Sweetwater rep to have them safely packed otherwise I guarantee you they'll arrived damaged.

Great for use with a xbox flight simulator.

By Robert from Santa Barbara
Music Background: Pro

Yes I do play music but I'm into flight simulation too and this stand is great for it. Fits a 55" LG flat screen on top and xbox underneath. Tons of room for controls, laptop etc. Slide out tray perfect for mouse and keyboard. Very clean looking and super sturdy. Go strictly by the assembly video to make it easy to set up. They give you the exact amount of bolts to build the stand so I think throwing in a few extra would be a good idea. When you assemble the tray its way easier to use the packing stryo material on the top tier and build the tray standing up instead of on the ground as suggested. Then you just flip it onto the bottom shelf brackets.

Great Value, Very Poor Fit and Finish

By Don S. from Finksburg, MD

@Therm0ptic got it right: "Perfect design, honestly. It's kinda cheap but that's why it's really inexpensive."

If your DIY skills are strong, this is a solid work table for a home studio. If not, get a handy friend to help. The QC on the included parts borders on the comical and that's the best way to look at it to avoid frustration.

1) You'll need to drill out all of the holes that take bolts with a 15/`16" or 1/4" bit. I used 1/4" and it was fine. The finish is apparently applied after the holes were drilled and they are all partially filled in. No way to push the bolts through without damage unless you predrill.

2) The parts identified as "cams" need special attention. They are little metal barrels with threaded holes that act as recessed nuts for the bolts. Worst thread tapping I've ever seen. You'll need to take a bolt and gently and carefully thread it into each cam to clean and open the threads. You run the bolts into the cams blind during assembly and it is impossible to do unless you chase the threads first.

3) The instructions are OK, but not always obvious or complete. People seem to be having trouble inserting the keyboard tray properly. The front of the tray has rounded corners. The rear has square corners. Insert the tray so the square corners will contact the plastic stops, as shown in the photo.

I had difficulty determining the assembled size of this desk for planning before purchase. The assembled desk is 43 1/4" wide. If the back of the desk is pushed against a wall, the front edge of the main work surface will extend 33 1/4" from the wall. I believe the keyboard tray adds about 7" when extended but I ended up not needing the tray and ended up removing it to give me more leg clearance - I like to work on a 26" tall stool.

The top shelf fits a 21" (diagonal), 20.5" (horizontal) computer monitor and 2 7.5" wide studio monitor speakers. Maybe 2" left over. The main worksurface has plenty of space for a computer keyboard and mouse, a 49 key midi keyboard and quite a bit more. I didn't want to spend $600 for a table that will literally live in a bedroom and this product let me exchange some sweat equity to get a product that met my needs for less than half the cost. Good deal, if you know what you are getting into.

Great Desk!!!

By Robert M.

I was initially hesitant to purchase such a large, heavy object because of the possibility of shipping damage, but because of my many excellent experiences with Sweetwater and my sales associate Matt Z. I took a shot and am soooo glad I did. This is a great unit, especially for the price. It arrived with ZERO damage and once assembled it exceeded my expectations by a mile. It went together without incident and was perfect for my small home studio set up. The hardware is robust and the material although particleboard is strong and attractive. If you are hesitant, don't be. Sweetwater will make it right if you have any problems, which 99% of the time there are none!

This is my first time having a dedicated piece of furniture for music production and I am not disappointed. The desk is perfectly sized for my needs. Would recommend!

By katelin from orange

I got the WS7500 desk and I had accidentally screwed the wrong sized nuts into the desk causing it to bug out the table top, and I was so upset that I did this. I contacted Sweetwater and thankfully they sent me a brand new one. so beware !!! supposedly this is a common mistake. But I'm very grateful they sent me another desk, they always respond super fast and are very kind. The desk is amazing by the way; great quality and great size for the price especially !!!

Surprisingly well built

By Brian S. from Buckeye, AZ

I ordered one of these for my new studio space and I've got to say I'm very surprised at the quality. Usually stuff like this is cheap and not very well built but all of the on-stage products I've purchased have been great. I gave four stars instead of five for two reasons- one, the instructions were unclear is a few parts. Things that could go two ways were not labeled in the instructions. Two, it was missing one bolt. BUT due to the quality materials and precise construction, it didn't really matter. Overall a great product.

A lot of desk for the money. I put a large monitor on the top level which is connected to my laptop on the main level. Now I don't slouch when I use the laptop. I didn't have to attach the sliding tray because that was hitting my knees anyway (I'm tall).

Mostly Well Made - Definitely Sturdy - Heavy/Semi-Hard to Piece Together

By Kavon V. from Beggars and Strangers Music Creations
Music Background: Music Producer, Pianist/Keyboardist, Session Musician, Private Instructor

This is a mostly well-made and definitely sturdy desk. The molding strip around the edges of the main desk board was already slightly loose in 1-2 spots when I put the whole desk together. The surface scratches easily, which seems dumb since it's designed for working musicians who need to put HDs, interfaces and other devices on it. Putting together the section that holds the smaller board for the computer keyboard was challenging. No real room to work with the way On-Stage requires this to be assembled. It's also a little higher than the standard computer chair height, unfortunately. On-Stage dropped the ball on that for sure and I have to buy a new chair because of it. The entire desk is also quite heavy, but that lends to its sturdiness. All that said, once set up the desk is quite functional. I gave a 3.5 rating instead of 3 because in the end it does what it's supposed to and I have no fears of it breaking. On-Stage dropped the ball on height and the quality of some elements but made a sturdy, functional desk for home-studio, working musicians.

perfect for the amateur studio

By matthew from Detroit
Music Background: amateur electronic musician

I purchased the entire complete WS7500 Workstation with desk, corner extension, and 12u rack. I also ordered an extra corner extension; I'll explain why in a minute. The WS7500 is exactly the workstation I've been looking for, and the price for the complete system cannot be beat for the quality you receive. Set-up took about 4 hours-the instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. Make sure you plan out exactly how you want your studio set up before you begin connecting corner extensions and the 12u rack. Once all the major pieces are connected it is super heavy and cumbersome to move around by yourself.
WHY I ordered an extra corner extension, and why I recommend you do the same: if you look at the photo I attached you will see that I connected 2 consecutive corner extensions on the right side of the workstation, then connected the 12u rack at the end. If you were to connect only 1 corner extension then add the 12u rack at the end, the desk surface does not create a 90 degree angle. Now, what I love about this workstation is that you do not have to set it up the way I did... you can connect however many corner pieces or extra 12u racks in whatever configuration to the left or right that works best for you!
In summary the On Stage Stands WS7500 Workstation system is amazing.. the quality, price, flexibility.. I would have gladly paid more and still given it a 5 star rating. Amazing purchase!

Nice desk IMHO

By Dr J. from Hamilton, OH
Music Background: Piano, Sax once upon a time, drums, synthesizer

We recently moved and I downsized as part of that. I used to have a Studio RTA Producers Station, which is a nice but BIG desk. I donated a large portion of my gear to the local (Cincinnati) School of Rock, which is a fantastic program by the way. But at the last minute I held back a couple of pieces of rack gear I wanted to keep. While I didn't donate my old desk, my wife appropriated it for her office in our new condo. So I was looking for a desk a little smaller than what I had had before, which still had rack spaces. This little desk is just perfect. The version I got also has a corner piece which connects the main desk to an additional 12-unit rack unit. It's exactly what I needed.

October 23, 2020

Excellent Value

By Jesse from U.S.A.
Music Background: Hobbyist

I ordered the blacktop model. The finish looks great and the desk is very practical overall. The assembly took a little bit of time but was not as impossible as other reviews made it seem.

My only issue with the desk is how low the keyboard tray sits. I'm only 5'11" and the tray rests on the tops of my knees when I'm sitting with my feet flat and my knees at 90. This makes getting in and out from under the desk somewhat inconvenient.

If you're looking for a stylish desk to upgrade from something like a tabletop platform, this is definitely worth the money.

Highly Recommend Any Upcoming Producers To This Desk

By Gabriel H.

This desk has so much space I love it so much, truly. I've placed my laptop on the top platform and I'm planning on adding monitors as well. I have my keyboard on the middle platform, and there's enough space to push it back if I need to use the extra space. On the bottom pull out layer I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. This desk feels very durable and it is not shaky at all. 11/10 Highly reccomend

I am surprised by sturdiness, thickness, and design. I was thinking I would be receiving a light weight framed desk. Nope. Very solid. I am not great at putting things together. I docked a point because I found it difficult to install the keyboard tray. I wish the instructions were clearer than just "insert the keyboard tray into blah blah blah", just for clumsy people like me that break stuff occasionally :-) Other than that, I'm very happy with this.

Good upgrade

By David

The desk was a big upgrade to the one I had. I like the build quality and modern look! I have to get used to how much higher my monitor sits on its platform, but I'll manage!

The only little problem I have is that the keyboard slider isn't too smooth, I might have to call it in to see if I can get that part replaced.

Worth It

By Chuck from Tennessee

This is a solid work station. It was very easy to put together (other than a couple of areas where getting a full turn of the allen wrench was impossible). For the money I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything of better value. The top, legs and all the hardware are of good quality, especially if you compare it with most furniture items you would buy and build in this price range. This will hold up for many years I'm sure. Thank you to Ken who is always great to work with, and to Sweetwater for getting it to me so quick.

Excellent Workstation!

By Francois B. from Haines City, FL
Music Background: Beginner.

When I saw the picture of the desk online I wasn't sure what to expect about its size and quality, I thought it would be probably to small for my specific need, boy I was wrong! The desk is huge and super sturdy! I loooove it! I bought the extension table because I didn't know the desk was that spacious. It's definitely something I will never regret buying and hopefully it'll last for a long time. Awesome product! Great buy!

Even Better Than Expected

By Caith
Music Background: Semi-pro touring and recording musician

The online photo of this desk doesn't do it justice. It is far more attractive in person (I got the black one) and heavier duty than I expected. It is absolutely rock solid. Assembly took a while but the instructions were easy to follow. Being 6'4", the retractable keyboard tray sat right on my lap at first but the screw-in feet on the bottom of the desk are height-adjustable and added just enough clearance. I recommend spending the $10 on the optional WSA7500 2U Rack Mount as the holes are already pre-drilled for it in the bottom of the upper work surface. I installed a Furman power strip in one of the spaces which centralizes the power cords for my PC, monitor, peripherals and studio monitors and keeps them nice and tidy. I'm totally satisfied with this product and the price.

Great product for price!

By Seth M. from Texas
Music Background: Drummer for 18 years. Production for a year.

The design is great for a tight workspace. The included keyboard tray fits my full keyboard and trackball with wiggle room. Sturdy frame design feels solid when all tightened. The wood feels heavy and durable, not just cheap particle board that’s going to break.

My only dissatisfaction is how it shipped to me. A couple of end caps for the tubing were busted up, some of the frame had scratches and blemishes in paint at foot rails, and some of the table tops had scratches and edge.

All in All for the price Worth buy. If you don’t care about cosmetics, definitely worth buying.

Just what I was looking for to upgrade my studio!! I had a glitch during assembly, and with a phone call to the Mfg. I had a whole new unit shipped out to me free of charge!! When you combine the already great service from Sweetwater with first class service from a mfg it is awesome!!

Solid

By Rich R. from Naperville, IL

For what this is, it can't be beat at this price point. I'm impressed with how easy it was to assemble minus the slide out keyboard shelf. (They could have done a better job of labeling the orientation of how the shelf assembles to the rails).

Once assembled after ~30 minutes, this thing is rock solid. Fits great in my B room. I bought 1 matching sidecar and will probably add a 2nd. I also got the under tier 2U rack add-on. The rack add-on doesn't play nice with the cross-brace under the top shelf, but it might work for your needs.

I would buy this desk again. 5 stars.

September 5, 2019

A lot of space for under $500

By Vincent F. from Philadelphia, PA
Music Background: home recording and podcast creation

I already had an older version of this desk that I gave to the Missus and bought this as well as the matching rack cabinet and workstation corner and have to say there has been an improvement. Now the desk is even easier to assemble due to the pre-installed receivers in the bottom of the desk top making it easier to line up and get a tight connection.

Top shelf has plenty of room for a very large monitor or 2 smaller ones and the second work-space is large and comfortable. The corner accessory took a little finesse to line up but adds to the work-space so much you will wonder how you survived without one. The rack cabinet seems robust enough but I have not put anything in it yet, but the top is large to function as another work space. I put the wheels on it and it seems that made the rack sit a little higher than the desk but I assume the regular feet will make sit even.

Like I said before, the desk is easy to assemble but you need to take your time, it took me 2 hours to put together all three and put them into place. The only one that was a little time consuming was the workstation corner. There is the task of hammering your pilot holes using the provided template and deciding if the corner is going to be on the left or right, and being a table with one leg, you do have to do a balancing act when securing it to the main desk.

If you are in the market for decent low cost workstation, then I suggest getting the bundled package.

WS 7500 Workstation

When you have limited space and budget this fits the bill. I have replaced the speaker stands and a keyboard stand while taking up less room. Having everything in front of you is great. be careful when attaching the drawer to the top they use shorter screws. Use the wrong ones and you dent the top.

Here's How-To

By nioa from Phoenix, AZ

Very nice workstation. Excellent value for the price.

Not that I was asked, but here are some observations on how this workstation went together.

I am a model aircraft hobbyist who builds his own balsa giant scale aircraft. Although there are planes that are sold as "almost ready to fly" they require a lot of skill and technique to put them together correctly, emphesis on correctly. The manufacturers make it seem like these planes are so easy to assemble that it would only take a few hours. Let's just say that in reality a well built aircraft can take hundreds of hours. How you ask is this relevant to this workstation? There are ways of approaching a "build" that can make things go much more easily, or way harder. I would like to share some of the things that made putting this desk together go much easier.

First off, when you put something like this together you should never have to force anything. Ever. If you have to apply more than reasonable effort, something is wrong, and you should find out why before things get broken. Sorry, not lecturing, just that this is a major reason in my hobby of why there is so many really bad builds. Impatience too.

Always fit things together first if you can. I started with the keyboard tray. I made sure that the slides did just that. Glad I did. One of the slides got caught up on a screwhead in the track that just needed a little tightening to get the slide to move past it smoothly. Imagine the fun of trying to fix this once you got the whole desk together and had to try to reach that screw buried in the track. uhhhh.

Again test fitting paid off when I discovered that the holes drilled for the screws for the keyboard cam's where not drilled in deep enough. They were about 1/4 inch short. Not much, you could have probably just forced the screw deeper into the wood, but that would risk stripping the cam (you only have 8 of them, no replacements). A 15/64th drill bit cleared the small amount of undercut, and allowed the screw to smoothly seat itself.

I also test fit the cams themselves with the screw. Some of them did have a bit of stickyness that was worked out by just screwing them in and out a few times. Rough threads, easy fix.

A test fitting of the "Z4" feet was appropriate, as these needed to be run through in and out a few times to smooth them out.

Once all the fitting was done I put the desk loosely together before final tightening and squaring up.

The Sliding Keyboard Tray: The keyboard tray does have an "up" and "down" side. There is a sticker marked "F" on the side that faces the floor. This is not mentioned in the instructions. If you insert the tray wrong, you will not be fully able to extend or retract the tray. The tray is not easy to remove when it has been inserted wrong, so you have to essentially disassemble the keyboard box. In case you removed the "F" sticker, there is a way to tell if the tray is right side up or not: There is a curved piece of plastic in the tray itself. If the "curve" is facing upward like it could catch water, then the tray is upside down.

I thought the build was fun. The little challenges are something I expect because in my hobby I get them all the time. I know you're probably thinking, if I pay this much for this desk, then why should I have problems? Because it is in the nature of something that is built. Wood expands and contracts, screws threads may not be formed perfectly. If you are able to deal with these little frustrations, then you will not be thrown by them.

I wish all of my planes were this easy to assemble. I expected misalignments, but did not get any, everything lined right up and fit perfectly. The keyboard tray was a bit of a stumper at first, but it rides smoothly, and seems to be strong.

The box was delivered with a few tears and holes in it. I was concerned that the contents were damaged. Fortunately, there was only a minor scrape on the lower floor support and some abrasion on the table top from (I guess) moving about in the box during transport. Not enough to concern me as the table top will have a controller and other things sitting on it. I'm sure that if there was a problem Sweetwater would make it right.

Like I said, just take it easy, and don't rush it, and you will be rewarded with a good looking, strong, functional workstation!

Good Value

By Brian J.
Music Background: Hobbyist

This is probably the best value flat pack desk I've seen. I'm a big fan of the welded legs and simple assembly. It's about as easy as it gets to assemble with only 5 hardware packs and like 8 major parts. I think the instructions are fine but things get a little ambiguous around the keyboard tray assembly and I think they made a mistake instructing you install the sliding tray before mounting the slide assembly under the table - the allen wrench just doesn't fit where it needs to go at that point. The wooden parts were mostly flawless but the painted legs had lots of chips and scuffs, nothing that made me regret the purchase but if you're picky about that sort of thing be warned. It feels sturdy, the tray is still a bit tight but slides without binding. I'll repeat this on the product page for the 2 U rack adapters but I'll say it here as well: The rack adapters I got are severely warped, don't fit the holes and the cross member under the "upper workspace" of the table blocks a anything deeper than 5" in the top rack space. Too bad on that front because it was a sweet place to put my guitar preamp. A power conditioner may fit there but I don't know if you could plug anything into it.

Great desk!

By Patrick A. from Thorntown
Music Background: Songwriter

I got this desk to go with my new MODX6.
The desk looks really great.

A little hard to put it together but not bad.

The desk made my little bedroom studio look way better.
While this review is for the desk,
i feel i should mention the greatness of SWEETWATER.
The first desk had a little damage so SWEETWATER sent me a new one overnight shipping.

I will never order music gear from any other music store.

SWEETWATER cannot be beat for customer satisfaction.

They truly care.

On-Stage WS7500

By Rob from Rochester NY
Music Background: Gig at National and local level, home recording

This is very well made and easy to assemble. All needed tools are included.

I had an issue with the computer drawer slider mechanism and my sales engineer Adam had them send me out a complete drawer assembly without question. I had it within 3 days. That is the Sweetwater difference right there!

I highly recommend this desk for your home studio!

Great desk

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional Producer/Remixer

Great desk, I highly recommend getting the side panels and the two space under shelf rack as well for mounting power conditioner/hard drives, as well as additional space for equipment, on top of that it looks really good with the side panels added... very sturdy and plenty of space to work with. Great buy!

Great Value

By Alex

This desk goes together easily and is very sturdy. Enough space to fit a 49 key keyboard and drum pad controller on the middle shelf. My standard office chair is at a good typing height when low, and a good keyboard playing height when raised.

Would be nice to have a bit more width on the top shelf, but it snugly fits two 7" studio monitors and a 24" display monitor. I would definitely recommend speaker stands if you want to put two displays on the top shelf, or isolating pads if you're putting your studio monitors there.

There are a few obvious places where the manufacturer cut corners on materials, but overall I give it five stars for what you're getting at this price point.

Great Working Desk

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a great working desk. All the materials feel nice and smooth. Make sure to buy the extra On-Stage Stands WSA7500 Two-space Rack Mount. The only complaint it that the desk has a very minor wobble from right to left if bumped.

GREAT WORKSTATION

By t.a.

this desk has outstanding qualities of being a joke. it is wobbly no matter how much you tighten the bolts. BUY IT, it is junk. you would have to buy two desk and use the crossbars from the other one and that my help, not sure though. of course, this would all involve you having to drill holes in the z-frames of the the desk you are planning on using; plus the placement of the extra cross supports would be a guess seeing that I would never buy another one to find out. heck... 2 isn't out of the question in music gear money strata. if you do wind up trying my idea post it some on the internet let me know how it goes. I always thought it would be a good idea to remove the top shelf and add extra tier support brackets to hold desktop synths or a drum machine, but that is impossible because the top cross bar is larger than 1". which is what the the onstage ksa8500 would require. do to the fact that you should never have monitors on a desk, you always use monitor stands w/ isolation pads to make sure you are not causing the monitors to vibrate the desk. real engineers use mains which are flush mounted into extremely expensive acoustically tested rooms designed by what are known as "tonemeisters" and you have to learn to speak german to become one of those; I think. that is to say it not impossible to make well sounding home studio, it would take a lot of money though which i plan to attempt to do, that being said you should just buy a need computer desk from amazon and sturdy monitor stands, closed cabinet monitors mackie makes them in an affordable price range... and a behringer measurement mic and test the room. then buy a book by rod gervais about how to build studios, and also there is a book called "handbook of sound studio construction" which will tell you how to create an rfz, you will find out what that means if you read enough about studio construction. use owens corning 703 and or 705 for absorption rinse repeat with the measurement mic then figure out what kind of diffusers you need to build or buy if you are ridiculously wealthy. repeat the test with the measurement mic. learn tons of math and carpentry and this desk will work to make yourself a descent although maybe wobbly desk. home studios are nearly impossible to get to be viable, but one can try. and try i will.

Great starter desk with a plenty of add ons for the future

By Qugo

This desk went together very well. I love the two tier design and sliding key board tray. i love that there are plenty of accessories that come with the desk so that I can expand my work station in the future without purchasing a completely different desk! This is a heavy, sturdy, and quality desk. By heavy I mean that there is no particle board or plastic. This is made of solid wood and steel. It does not wobble or feel the least bit flimsy. This is definitely worth the purchase, not to mention the friendly service and support from the people at sweet water. Im glad i chose to purchase THIS desk from THIS company. I will be doing much more business with sweet water from here on out!

Great desk for the price

By Rob G. from TX

This desk is way bigger than it looks in pictures. The main workspace is deep enough to allow me to set up a desktop synth and drum machine while still having my laptop in front of them, and space for a notepad and small interface. The slide out tray is great for having your midi controller on, and the space for the speakers is also generous. Easy to build, solid construction, and an overall great deal for the price. I am impressed so far.

Bang for the buck

By Studio B. from NC
Music Background: Long time home studio muscian

For a home studio, needing efficient use of space and still capable, this one is hard to beat for the money. You could certainly spend more (I almost did) for looks or a better brand name. And I suppose for a larger space with more need for rack equipment other options might be better, but at this price the unit is perfect.
Heavier than I expected metal supports, solid work surfaces (I believe it is MDF with surface and edge coating - mine came overall unmarked, but I understand that these surfaces can be marred in shipping).
Went together fairly easily - very much IKEA like - hex tool included in kit, minimal types of bolts, etc. Took maybe 30-45 minutes.
I later added the 2U rack for under the top surface - it holds my audio interface in the perfect location for a one person studio.
My only other comment is about the side rack accessory. I purchased a Sanus after seeing how weak the optional 12U rack was in others" reviews. I use a McIntosh MC2100 power amp at nearly 80 lbs all by itself. Sanus unit was totally capable (need to buy the heavy 3U rack shelf) but the On-Stage wouldn"t have a prayer. So, if you"re looking for an integrated look for recording desk, rack, etc. make sure you"re not going to load the rack. The desk is certainly heavy duty, which makes it odd that the side rack is not.

Sturdy Desk

By Tim W. from Helotes/ San Antonio, TX area
Music Background: Bassplayer

The only real issue I had was the printed directions are lacking in some of the instructions, ie, which way to mount the keyboard to the main desk area. I had to take it off and turn it around then I was able to put the top deck on the correct way. Other than that, it is a sturdy desk that should last me for a long time. The top shelf does have extra screw inserts to allow for it to be moved back or forward depending on your taste.

Sleek and Spacious

By Sweetwater Customer

The black desk is a very sleek satin luster black--no wood grain. Had some difficulty assembling it due to manufacturing defects (poor threading for screws, cambers that fall right out). Only one marred bit on the edge of the main desk. Main work area fits my 73-key keyboard perfectly. Wobbles a bit, but I think that's more my carpet's fault. The fact that I can add on to it later is a huge plus.

Sturdy desk

By Larry from PDX

For the price this was a much better desk than I expected. It's nice that you can buy extra corner pieces if you have the space or if you want rack mounts you can add those. We are using this for a home recording studio and are very satisfied with both this desk and the follow up calls from Sweetwater.

Perfect fit for my space

By Sweetwater Customer

I have a small recording space in my new home and my old desk would not fit. This was just the right size and looks great. Biggest challenge was putting it together wasn"t easy but once that was done it was just what the doctor ordered.

Checked out reviews of several options this was best option for the price. And is expandable when my recording space expands.

Great Desk, Brutal Assembly

By Matthew J. from Cleveland, TN

I'm ultimately giving this product 4 stars because the finished desk looks very sharp, seems high quality, and perfectly fits my needs.

However, I am deducting one star for how absurdly frustrating this was to put together and the lack of detail in the assembly instructions.

WS7500 workstation needs quality control

By Mike W. from San Antonio, TX
Music Background: Journeyman musician

The rating is my experience with this product. I got the workstation almost put together. The metal base, the top shelf, the sliding keyboard drawer assembly. All very neat and tidy. But when I attempted to screw bolts through the drawer assembly to the bottom of the main workstation table (upside down, of course), the holes drilled in the assembly did not fit the holes in the workstation. Off by 1/16". No way to force it. Very frustrating to spend a few hours putting it together with everything going right when at the end you find that someone at On-Stage manufacturing didn't measure right.

But Sweetwater was the greatest. They deserve 5 stars. After letting my salesman, Paul Lea, know of the issue, he got Sweetwater on the task immediately. There seems to be a satisfactory resolution and it happened in minutes.

Once I have the product fixed, I may revisit and change rating on this.

Strong and Easy

By Max S. from Deer Park, TX

This desk has just the right dimensions to handle one or even two keyboards. The footprint is still small, and obviously, everything is easily accessible for hookups. It is sturdy and easy to assemble.

Decent desk, poorly packaged

By Dan from Providence, RI

Desk is perfect fit for my Yamaha HS50M studio monitors and my 27" iMac 5k on the top shelf (less than 1/2" to spare). Plenty of room for my focus rite, 49-key ROLI, and external hard drives. Good size keyboard drawer. Assembly wasn't awful, but not super smooth either... probably about what you'd expect for this price range.

Cons:
- Work station is a wobbly, enough that it moves a little when typing.
- Poor packaging. One corner of each of the top shelf and one corner of the main desk piece were pretty badly damaged. Would post pictures if this forum offered a way to.

Pro:
- Perfect size for an amateur, but serious, home studio setup You'll probably need a relatively smaller monitor if you have > 5" studio monitors though.

Great deal!

By Mike from Washington, IL
Music Background: Working musician, novice home studio producer

This desk is perfect for my little studio. It was easy to assemble and very sturdy. I lined the sides and back of the main work space with LED strip lights and it makes a nice environment to sit and do my editing with the room lights off with a nice cup of coffee. It's plenty large enough for two 24" monitors, my audio interface and a 52 key midi controller. I'm really happy with this purchase and it's a great price.

Nice Workstation

By SP from Chicago
Music Background: Singer Songwriter / Mocker / Irish S Stomper

Assembly was very easy and the workstation is built like a tank! I didn't have any issues with assembly. I've learned from spending hours putting furniture together to leave screws a little loose until you get everything assemblyed then tighten them firmly. I left the sliding keyboard area off because most of the time I'm standing while I'm working in my home studio.

I love it

By Bryan L. from Baltimore md

I love this desk. Its allot bigger than expected but it gives me room for two 5" studio monitors and a 27" wide computer monitor plus a 24 key keyboard with a turntable.. The space is awesome.

The only issue i have is the sliding shelf. I put my compete keyboard on it and it moves when i don't want it to and its really annoying but that's a small thing to a giant because i love it

Great value

By Todd M. from Grayling, MI

I wanted a desk specifically made for home recording, and this one looked like a great value. I ordered it along with the corner extensions which haven't arrived yet. I also ordered the 2 space under table rack accessory.

The good: Easy assembly in about 40 minutes and everything lined up really well. It looks great, and is very sturdy.

The little less than good: The top shelf is really too small for a 21" computer monitor and a pair of 8" studio monitors. I got it all to fit with a couple of smaller footprint monitor stands, but it's real tight. The 2 space rack add-on is kind of....well, the top rack space is pretty much unusable, as it just sits too close to the horizontal support beam. My preamp fit, but it would have been impossible to plug anything into it. The patchbay fit, but it was too hard to work around anything to plug it up. I found a workaround, but it's not ideal.

Overall, very happy with the purchase. Lot's of desk here for the money.

Nice job for the price, good value

By Paul G. from Trego, MT
Music Background: "Retired" pro, still semi-pro

This is a pretty nice desk, certainly worth the low cost. There were a few little nicks and dents but I'm not that particular and I also don't expect a Mercedes when purchasing a Ford (not that I would purchase a Ford...). It's about value, I think this is a good value.

As I needed slightly more height to go over top of my Roland A88 controller, I used four of the casters provided with the WSR7500B. It is not mentioned in any of the paperwork, nor is this information known to On-Stage, but the WS7500 DOES have holes for casters which is a great help! On-Stage does NOT offer these casters for sale however, so you must source them for yourself, or do like I did and purchase a WSR7500B rack and install the feet instead of the casters, using the casters on the desk. The casters increased the value to me personally, but even without them I think this is a good purchase.

For the price, an incredible deal! Most workstations I find are well over $1,000, but as someone not trying to break the bank, this is perfect. It's well-made, sturdy, and the optional peripherals are cool, too. My guess is that other recording equipment I've purchased over the last year or so will be replaced long before this workstation is!

Excelent Workstation

Perfect for my home studio needs. I ordered two of them and I will probably get a third one! These desks feel sturdy. There is enough space in the top shelf for a set of JBL monitors, a yamaha small mixer and a roland capture audio interface.

Impressive!

By Erik from California

My desk was light colored particle board, It was wobbly and the top tier sagged. These were the main issues driving me to purchase a new desk. I held off buying this one because at the time, the reviews weren't that great and I didn't see a black one. I was looking at the $350-650 price range but for the price I felt they should have almost perfect ratings. In the end I said for the price, I won't be disappointed if it sucks, plus I saw the black one and the ratings were better. I am truly impressed. I noticed how sturdy it was during assembly which was easy. The design is smart with no obstructions to hold the second tier. The black color looks nice and classy with the rest of my furniture. I didn't expect to be so happy with the end result.

Great desk, even better customer support

By Sweetwater Customer

This was my first purchase from Sweetwater, as I'd heard countless great things from industry friends. The desk itself is very good, sturdy (even with a 39" television being used as a monitor on the top tier) and easy to assemble. The value for your dollar is incredible. My single disappointment was that it came a bit dinged-up, which was the fault of the carrier. But Sweetwater's response was incredible--they had a new one out to me in days and were in touch with me about the issue within minutes. It's that kind of service that will make me a longtime customer.

Simple But Very Worthy

By Michael M. from CA

Finally, some one designed a workstation desk that makes sense! And the price isn't astronomical either. I like the size of the top shelf; it's depth is more than what it looks like in the picture. Overall I like the spaciousness - plenty of room for my gear and purpose. It is just a bit wobbly but I can live with that. I had to give only four stars since the pull out shelf mechanical parts broke; the bearings fell right out when I tried to slide the shelf into the sliders.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED

By Kison from Mi
Music Background: Longtime music lover, R n B

4.5 stars because, one of the holes on the slide out shelf was miss aliened. Otherwise, assembly was easy enough for my grandchildren with my guidance. The desk is sturdy. The trick was to leave the frame screws lose, (for wig-gal room to alien shelf screws), until all the shelf screws were started correctly, then tighten everything. This desk has enough space to organize all my small home studio stuff in one place. Great for my needs. Happy with my purchase.
