Behringer WING Compact 48-channel Digital Mixer Reviews

48-stereo-channel Digital Mixer with Touchscreen, 48-in/48-out USB Audio Interface, 13 Motorized Faders, 24 Midas Pro Preamps, 28 Stereo Buses, and 16 Stereo Digital FX Processors

The Behringer WING Compact packs the processing power, channel count, effects, expansion slots, and digital I/O of the full-size WING into a lightweight, 13-fader control surface. That said, the WING Compact supplements its near-limitless digital connectivity with 24 award-winning Midas Pro preamps, making it an ideal all-in-one solution, even without a separate stage box. A 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen and intuitive Sources paradigm provide streamlined navigation, enabling you to focus on your source audio rather than the nuts and bolts of your mix. You’ll also appreciate the enhanced customization afforded by the WING Compact’s eight user-assignable buttons, plus you get a dedicated Bus/Main/DCA section for fader usage and effect and DCA spill. You can record up to 64 channels directly to dual SD cards, use optional expansion cards to attain Dante support, or deploy the WING Compact’s built-in 48-in/48-out USB audio interface to record straight to your DAW. Complete with 16 true-stereo processors with Standard and Classic modeled effects, the WING Compact is a top-shelf digital console that will elevate the capabilities of any small-scale live sound setup.

It does exactly what I need...and a whole lot more

By Kaze from USA
Music Background: Music Producer & DJ

I purchased the Wing Compact specifically because of it serving 48/48 audio over USB, which is a big deal since most of my music is done with hardware synthesizers (analog and digital). It does this perfectly! Additionally, I love the fact that I can run 48 channels, 16 busses, 8 matrices, and 4 mains, which helps with some of the live work I would like to do over Twitch.

I strongly doubt I'll ever use this thing to it's fullest capabilities, but it's serving me quite well for what I purchased it to do. I look forward to learning even more about it.

What's Not to Like?

By Alan H. from IN
Music Background: Production Company Owner

All the main features of the full-size Wing in a compact version. Very little footprint required. Plus, 24/8 local I/O onboard.
And a winning feature over the M32R is that the screen didn't shrink to match the smaller console footprint. You still get the full-size screen.

Wing Compact purchased in June 2025

By Ryan V. from Southern Illinois
Music Background: 45 years experience as a sound & lighting engineer/musician playing rock, country, and original music.

On the upside, having 24-local channel inputs / 8-outputs on the back of a 19-inch rack mount mixer was a selling point for me. This is a long overdue update for a footprint that has typically been limited to 16 or fewer local inputs. There are lots of preinstalled effects and EQs that are assignable to each channel.

Building a workflow is tedious and time consuming. The sound engineer has to sort through pages of settings for routings, and setup channels independently. It would be beneficial to have the mixer setup with a few preprogrammed layouts to route LOCAL INPUTS and AES50 INPUTS / OUTPUTS through in typical routings.

This desk is simply amazing.

By Sweetwater Customer from NC

I went from using an antelope orion 32+ gen 3 as center of my studio audio interface to this compact + dante card and a behringer SD-16 stage box giving me a total of 40 ins and 16 outs. This thing is extremely flexible with routing and it can also act as a USB interface for my akai force(or MPC) making it 32in 32outs over a digital connection. Using the dante card(64/64 io) with it I can route the force into the DAW from USB outs to DANTE ins and also process with wing FX on the way in. This also works as an amazing daw controller for my DAW bitwig. The preamps also sound great for all my synths that are connected. The onboard FX are an added bonus and the eq's and compressors sound great. I couldn't be happier with this mixer. Thanks Sweetwater and thanks behringer for making such an amazing device.

Killer Mixer!!

By Matthew K.
Music Background: Professional Mixing, Mastering, and Live Sound Engineer

This mixer is FANTASTIC! If you are thinking about it, do it! You have to keep in mind that the features of this mixer go VERY deep and there are usually several ways to accomplish any one task. Unfortunately, there is no manual, like at all. Not even on the website. There is a quick start guide is ships with but it barely touches the surface. My suggestion is to find AS MUCH content on YouTube and forums as you can. For example, one other review talks about how if you want to use Waves, you can only use 16 channels because you have to use the insert in the rack. This is one way to use Waves with the console, but not the only way! You can get Waves on every channel, but you have to know the proper way to set it up in the console. If you send the channels directly to the USB card, you can use it on every channel. That comes with its own set of issues and cons, but my point is, it's so feature-loaded it can almost be an issue. It's very easy to get yourself into trouble with it, but once you learn it, there is nothing on the market that even comes close to it. The fathers feel terrible, that's the only real "con" I have personally found.

When looking for information on the console, remember, the full-size WING, WING Compact, and WING Rack all use the same OS. So you can just as easily find info on the full-size WING, and it will apply to the other versions as well. The OS is the same. So don't limit yourself to just looking for content/forums on the Compact. There is much more information available on the full-size WING, and it's completely relevant to check it out. If you can do it on the full-size, you can do it on the other versions as well.

Just get it, trust me!

Great with some flaws

By Jon from Toronto

Overall very decent mixer and a huge upgrade to the x/m32 format.
Plenty of reviews speaking on all the welcome additions and usages.
The reviews already out highlight it's pro's, but very little people mention it's con's.
For those going a bit beyond your normal usage, here's what I don't personally like after 1 month of ownership.
Please don't get it wrong, I enjoy the mixer, it just has some issues for my personal usage most probably won't encounter.

Cons:

This is NOT a 48 channel desk, it's a 40 channel desk with 8 "utility channels".
Those 8 channels are limited in processing and not full channels.

No dedicated talkback.

16 slots of FX, which you will devour due to the design of this desk, which I'll explain.

Somehow they STILL require you to eat up an FX slot for 31 band GEQ's.
Similar priced desks have a GEQ on every bus/matrix by default (eg. SQ series).

Using Main/Alt input switch for live/virtual sound checks eats up your chance of using Waves/Dante as it's alt source as an insert.
You must use a FX slot to use anything software or hardware as an insert point on each channel.
16 channels of Waves inserts will take up your whole entire FX rack.

48k instead of 96k.

Voids your warranty installing the AoIP card yourself.

The faders feel slightly wavey.

1st 2 weeks of use, after a few minutes of being turned on the console would dance it's faders all over the place randomly for about 10 seconds then resume regular operation. This somehow stopped after 2 weeks (was on latest firmware).

SD recorder records to multiple 4GB 32 channel interleaved files instead of separated mono files.
You'll need to use a tool to separate the files for your DAW.

Console can't format any SD cards over 32gb.

Fake wood paneling feels very cheap and dents easily. Mine has 4 already after a month use and it lives in a case.

Few other minor issues but those are my main gripes.

Overall I give the mixer a 7/10.

Amazing Board

By David O.
Music Background: FOH Engineer, Sedalia Tabernacle Church

This board is insanely good for its price! It's got a ton of features and processing power that honestly feel like they should cost twice as much. (Not that I actually want it priced higher, of course!)

Best home studio upgrade ever!

By Tom from Lewes, DE
Music Background: Home studio enthusiast

I have a small home studio and have been using a 30 year old analog mixer mainly for routing. Because my legacy mixer was analog I also had a bunch of off-board equipment for reverb, compression, gate, etc. Well keep your eye on gear exchange if you are looking for any off-board channel strip devices because after getting the Wing Compact I don't need any of it.

First of all the quality of the unit is excellent. The entire case is all metal. The motorized faders or fantastic, they move swiftly when automated and yet are real smooth gliding when manually adjusting. The large touch screen is also great and real easy to work with.

The connection panel on the back of the unit is very well designed. I love the XLR 1/4 inch combo jacks and I especially like the built in dimable lighting over the jack bay as well.

Functionally I could not be happier. The routing and channel assignments are all customizable along with the channel scribble strips making it real easy to setup faders 1-12, 13-24, etc. This feature has allowed me to pack up my old patch-bay.

The workflow setup for each channel is also quite simple. Behringer did a fantastic job with their UI, it is very intuitive and has a bunch of presets for each link of the chain within the channel strip. Packed up another 2 off board compressors I won't be needing anymore.

Built in effects like pitch correct, reverb and delay are very realistic sounding and highly configurable. My vocals have never sounded so good. Setting these effect up in separate buss channels was also easy to do and routing of any source channel to the effects channels is a breeze and can be done pre or post fader.

Although this unit has seamless integration via USB to my DAW, a have actually spent more time recording tracks using the on-board expansion card and Micro SD memory. My only issue has been with formatting of the SD cards. When they are larger that 32g you will need to use a separate app on Windows to format the cards. But here is the deal. I have 2- 128Gb SD cards. With these 2 cards I have over 11 HOURS of recording capacity across ALL channels. I also like the feature the unit has of assigning an alternative input source for each channel. This makes it a breeze when switching from live input source to SD input source, allowing me to use my pre-recorded material for sound checks.

I want to give a shout out to my Sales Engineer Mike Wright, who was very helpful when navigating through the choices of products and features. I am extremely happy that we landed on the Wing Compact. I pre-ordered this before they were available and Mike made sure I got one of the first units that landed at Sweetwater.

By Chris from Rensselaer, IN

Was able to use the mixer this past weekend for 2 nights, for a total of 10 hours and it performed flawlessly. Sound quality was aamazing just using the onboard preamps. Paired it with QSC k12.2 and JBL Subs. Compliments all night.

Just got it!

By Jose
Music Background: FOH Engineer

Great sounding console, already use a full size Wing for touring and i when i saw that a compact size was coming, i knew instantly i wanted one!! The Wing Compact can be a little overwhelming at first if you're coming from an X32 or M32, but all it takes is a bit of time to get familiar with the features. So far i'm not sure how to work around not having Aux ins & outs on the compact version, i guess i'll have to figure something out.

Hopefully soom companies can start releasing molded flight cases for these smaller consoles and hopefully behringer releases an updated stage box with 48i/16o, that would be great!

So far in my career i've used a lot of consoles from X32/M32 to Yamaha CL3/CL5/Rivage PM5, Allen & Heath QU, SQ5, DLive, various DigiCo's, Venue SC48 and more and honestly i'm happy with my purchase of the new Wing Compact, i know i'll put it to good use for a couple of years!

First week with the compct

By Randy from Seattle
Music Background: Guitar player and songwriter

I thought it would be one day setting up a show but it took 3 days. It was three hours before I produced sound. I have three years on the X32. The output routing made me work harder, the busses are stereo and that makes matching the busses on my computer to get effects from my DAW on channels harder. For Behringer to load snapshots that would get us started with sound very convenient. First time I heard a microphone I knew I had made a very good purchase and quit a difference from my X32. There's bells and whistles that when I run across them in setup makes me very satisfied. Definitely would recommend this wonderful mixer. When setting up local sources and local channels make sure you select USB on your chosen Mains when your going to your DAW with effects on the DAW.

Got mine! you better get yours while you can. Built like a tank

"A HOME-RUN for BEHRINGER ". FULLY customizable Wing Rack truly is a next level beast. The multi touch screen is perfect, responds better than the iPad.
Mixed and recorded a Live multi track concert with mine the results are unbelievably warm and smooth. Along side the wing edit app there's nothing not to like about this upgrade. Get ready to use your x32 rack as a FULL FEATURED stage box don't sell it, if you don't need to.IMHO……
