Behringer Reliability...

By Sweetwater Customer

A great feature set at a great price. It's truly impossible to beat. However, reliability is questionable. I've had 2 of these boards for about a year and both have loud/faulty fans and one has stopped working entirely. If gambling thousands of dollars is your kind of fun, this is the board for you! If you want something rock solid day after day, I recommend going somewhere else.

I hoping that the Behringer wing mixer company continued to make Behringer Wing more stronger in many ways on new features to offer

If you’re thinking about doing it…DO IT

By Mitchell C. from San Marcos, TX
Music Background: 10+ years audio background. 3-4 years heavy touring as FOH.

I've done 13 shows so far with the Wing full size. Death metal/deathcore band. I was on the M32R before for a few years. I didn't need to upgrade necessarily, but it was always in the back of my mind the last handful of months. Pulled the trigger and got a Wing. This thing is worth it a little tricky to understand routing etc. at first but you'll get it down. And once you do a few shows on this thing you'll be amazed at what the capabilities are. And I'm just barely scratching the surface.

If you were like me, debating on getting a new console. Say you were using the X or M 32 just like I was and you're thinking, should I get an SQ5/6? Wing? Maybe a D Live? Hmmmm, but I don't wanna spend that much. Get a wing just do it trust me.

The WING is amazing

By Big B. from Brookline NH

We have a new full size Wing Console for our Big Bear Lodge performance center here in Brookline NH and love it! Sean our sales engineer guided us through the in's and out's of certain mixers and it was between an A+H console, or the wing.
Its a little different than the x32 platform but easily got it configured with some video help and some local engineers helping us with the routing setup and using two DL-16 Midas stage boxes for Front and Rear remote stage connections

Couldn't be happier!

Best value

By Jonathan K. from Madison, GA

This is the best value for your money. The Wing allows small/medium sized churches to sound professional. In the past year, the updates have been amazing. For example, you can now have some of the same benefits of a bus on all of your matrixes. So many other good things I could say, but it is the very best return on investment.

This WING Soars!

By Steve H. from Mount Washington, KY
Music Background: Music producer and performing musician

They've thought of everything with this console. Behringer is setting a new bar of expectations at this price point!

Once you get your head around it, you'll understand why they did what they did. I'm a Software Engineer at the day job and as such, the more configurable a system is, the steeper the learning curve. It's very much worth the effort to learn this machine as it will reward you on many levels. This is my first digital mixer and I didn't expect this much functionality for my first one. I'm glad I purchased the WING, it's a no brainer at this price point.

Would put this up against a 30K console (HD96 Excluded)

By Trent P. from Tucson AZ
Music Background: Professsional Integrator, Live Audio Production, Musician

For background, I have installed and used/tuned X/M32s (which I am a pretty big fan of), Allen and Heath QU and SQ series consoles, Presonus StudioLive Series 3 consoles, Yamaha TF series consoles, and Soundcraft SI series consoles, and I have also worked with DLive, Digico, and Yamaha QL and CL series consoles. And in more than one occasion, I have thought, "Can I have my WING back?

The Wing is an amazing console. It admittedly has a pretty steep learning curve, but once you figure your way around it, it is absolutely amazing in terms of IO, processing and routing capabilities. It sounds great (I use it with a DL32 stage box). The EQ is amazing (with up to 8 bands of fully parametric EQ with a great RTA behind it). Having a variety of quality Studio compressors available on ALL of your inputs and Outputs is a game changer (I personally love the RED compressor on vocals). Also the gate can be switched out for a DeEssor or Wave Shaper (great for Drums) or even some compressors. Because Stereo channels count as single channels (overall channel count is not dinged as it is with some competitors such as... well pretty much every other manufacturer!) , the actual mixing capabilities of this console rival many consoles costing 10 times as much.

I have used the Wing on multiple festivals where I had 15 minutes to get one band/group off the stage and the next one playing. Many times I just use icons rather than names. Setting up channels is very quick. Sometimes, I have prepped a separate layer with channels using the same inputs with different functionality to make the process quicker. Other than preamps (Gain and phantom power), you can channel labels, flatten (or prep) EQs, change out compressors, set up monitors, etc while the previous band/group is still playing.

I still install X32s and M32s for churches first dipping their feet into the digital world, because I like to think that after they have been initially set up by a professional, they are a bit easier to get around than the Wing. But for those that have a basic understanding of how digital consoles work (and dream about how they wished they worked), the Wing is a very difficult console to beat without spending 50K.

Give it a minute, you'll love it

By Dan B. from Upstate NY

This console does have a slight learning curve when setting up, but our team loves it. Coming from a 10+ year old digital Presonus console we knew based on reviews that there was a bit of a paradigm shift when it comes to setup, but we knew that going in and we love it now. The sound quality is amazing and the routing "source" way of doing things has made setup and adding new channels to the mix effortless. The ability to customize things has actually made this board easier to use for our volunteers in a lot of ways, because we were able to create custom views that focus on what needs to be focused on and they don't have to mess with a whole lot else. We were a little apprehensive going into this purchase with so many others using the X32, but in hindsight we're glad we "Winged" it!

Goofy and over-priced, but sounds good.

By Darren from Houston
Music Background: Owner/Operator Houston PA in TX. 15+ years professional experience.

One star for sounding good and behaving well on stage after setup.
This thing is goofy, bassackwards, and difficult to navigate. It will cost your house of worship or other venue boatloads in setup, tuning, and general operating and training cost. It is not user-friendly, is clunky in operation, and is twice as much as an x32 which is more industry-standard anyway. It is approximately the same price as an M32 which has found itself in pretty much every rental fleet in the nation and around the world. Your production will suffer because the operator has to spend more time chasing down features rather than mixing content. The routing on this thing is almost painful. I just don't see a point to getting this console - or even making it. The market share is already captured..by the same company!

Really, I think the worst thing about this console is it puts the engineer in a bad mood.

Great mixing console!

By Jeremy

We purchased this to replace some older Yamaha M7CL mixing consoles. We were concerned that this much cheaper console would be able to match the Yamaha, but having used them for several months now we don't regret the decision at all! In fact, we have had comments from the congregation that the sound is clearer now than it was before. I'm not sure if that is directly relate to the console as we also made some placement/configuration changes to our mics at the same time.

The interface is extremely easy to use. It did take me a couple of hours working with it to understand the setup, but once I got it, it is super easy to set up, make changes, or move channels around. Our volunteers have really liked the interface. Flexibility of moving channels wherever needed on the board is so nice!!! One of my favorite features is the configurable user buttons/layout. It takes literally seconds to move channels around and put them exactly where you want them.

We don't use a lot of the plugins, but the ones we have used work well. It is so nice that we don't have to have a separate DSP now. It can all be done in the Wing Console.

We now have 3 of these consoles and would highly recommend them!

Love this console

By Paul from Kentucky

We purchased this for our church several weeks ago for our live stream and recording with studio one. I don't have anything negative to say about this board. The sound quality is amazing. It's easy to setup once you understand the routing. A great step up from the x32, which we still use for FOH for now until we can budget another wing. I highly recommend this console

THE must-have console for a small studio or live venue

By Wayne from Pennsylvania

There's no point in writing a lengthy review. Just watch the various promotional videos and know that they're 100% accurate — this is an innovative, high quality console. The new routing system is incredibly intuitive, resulting in an extremely powerful device that's easy to learn. The features are outstanding, as well.

One note: remember that the Midas Pro mic preamps are best for live use. They're warm, rich sounding and very clean. However, for studio use I prefer the class-A preamps from my high-end audio interface. The great thing is that the routing and available i/o on the Wing is so flexible and easy to use that I can run my interface outboard to the console and everything works together seamlessly!

Great, Feature-Packed Console. Keep Your Shipping Box and Beware of Lemons

By Tyler C. from Birmingham, AL
Music Background: 8+ yrs production & audio engineering

This console is a great option for organizations that have outgrown the X32. There are lots of resources online about the great features available now and those that continue to be improved (the companion iPad app has come a long way since release), but as other reviews have pointed out, it does not include a comprehensive user manual. Youtube is going to be your friend.

The WING's flexible routing and processing systems are great, but would not be considered "volunteer friendly" which makes this product difficult to recommend to beginners or those who do not have a background in audio or live production, at least for initial setup. Once settings and routing have been configured, the intuitive layout and touchscreen interface make it pretty easy to train someone to use it at the surface level of comprehension (in the last year I've taught a half-dozen or so women in their 60's and 70's how to turn it on, load a scene and use the board for a weekly bible study).

ONE MAJOR WARNING for potential new buyers: this happened to our unit and has happened to several others, our touchscreen was registering phantom touches and inputs. This is a manufacturing defect impacting a small percentage of new units. Thankfully these phantom inputs never changed essential settings or mutes during a performance, but they very well could have. The repair is covered under the unit's warranty, but part shortages and supply chain issues make it difficult to predict a repair timeline. Our unit was out for several months, but Sweetwater's excellent support staff did their best to keep us up to date on the status of the repair and eventually did get it returned to us with no issues since.

TL;DR: great console, keep the original packaging in case you need to send it back for repairs.

Great digital mixer that is completely sabotaged by poor digital electronic design and abysmal warranty repair service

By John from Bay Area, California
Music Background: Former High School A/V geek, can only hold a tune if it is on a CD-ROM...

Bought in Feb 2021 for use with a Church's online COVID services. We absolutely LOVE the feature set, ease of configuration, analog/preamp sound quality, yada yada (see all those gushing YouTube reviews for more...)

Better yet was the support we got from Sweetwater, even though we purchased the unit from that big New York place. Matt earned a happy customer for life as we extended the system with a couple of S16 stage boxes, a bunch of mics, cables and speakers!

The biggest downside was the farce of a manual - all our usage / configuration guidance came from YouTube, and even there the presumption was that the user already was an expert sound engineer, and would just know when to use each of the thousands of features! Overwhelming, to say the least.

Sometime this last Summer, a bit unexpectedly in a Church setting, the unit became possessed. Sliders randomly started moving by themselves, settings changed during services, channels suddenly muted themselves... Our preacher took it all in stride with a comment about "well, the sermon was probably too long anyways"...

Online comments pointed at a LCD touchscreen design that was marginal at best; some combination of heat, humidity (and maybe the number of online listeners?) resulted in drastic and unpredictable control surface changes, even though the built-in diagnostics didn't report any phantom touches on the screen.

When got an RMA from the Music Tribe website, it came with a note: "Please allow ten (10) business days from your device's receipt at the service center for your repair to be completed. "

We shipped the unit in for warranty service in mid October and entered a new level of /heck/, apparently due to "hundreds" of units in for repair and a shortage of redesigned screens. Instead of 10 days, the repairs took 3 months!

Today, we got the repaired unit back. There was severe shipping damage due to inadequate packaging, as well as incompetent repair procedures - a half dozen missing or loose screws in the chassis, both side pieces broken off and all the screw heads that were supposed to secure them cut off. All four corners were severely dented and the sheet metal was gouged.

The UPS delivery guy just shook his head and muttered something about idiots as he wrote up the damage on his notepad.

Lordy Lordy, I pray we don't have to send it back for warranty repair again!

Great features but not reliable

By Frustrated W. from NYC

We have three units, the facility only requires two but we had to purchase a third just to be able to rotate units out for repairs as faders stop tracking or ghost faders open.

At this point all three have spent multiple weeks out of service being "fixed" sometimes they fail upon return or inevitably within a few weeks.

Currently we have a two boards with issues still in the facility and the third in repair for over two months and we are told no parts until at least Mid February.

The issues began within a few weeks of purchase but it's NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with the Manufacturer.

Buyer Beware

The Wing delivers at a higher quality than its price range- by far.

By Sweetwater Customer from St Louis
Music Background: Studio/Live musician

As a company that specializes in music instruments and pro audio, I was given a recommendation to work with Sweetwater. The Wing doesn't disappoint, and neither does the service by the sales reps. Behringer is rocking the Midas pre-amps and it sounds just clean and noise-free, with balanced signals recorded digitally sounding crisp and true to the source. Of course, I have to explore more of the bells and whistles that come, but every standard compressor, reverb or pan has a wonderful touch screen AND old school analog feel to it, because I can also dial it in. Digital recording to a dual SD is sweeeeet. The concept of 'Sources' carries EVERYTHING about a channel, even settings such as phantom power and every configuration that makes that input unique. I was unsure and had a few questions at first ab out functionality at the price point. Did it support Dante? How seamless is the DAW integration and how many channels does it support? Is MIDI supported? Is there an in-depth fader and crossfader scene creation method? I am very pleased with the sales rep Mr. Porter, who affirmed Yes to all of my questions. The Wing is future-proof for many years and allows for Dante integration, and a host of other features.
Highly recommended.

Not easy to use and NO MANUAL or Support for it

By Peter M. from Brookfield, CT

First off, Sweetwater has been extremely helpful trying to solve some issues that would have been very easy to figure out if this console had a user manual. Behringer has 6 videos (yes only 6) YouTube videos posted as of 11.30.21 to help but I'm sorry, a user manual is a MUST.
I am a over 40 yr audio pro who has used nearly every console analog & digital that has ever been released, I am not a hobbyist or part time audio engineer.... I do this everyday for my whole life and I know how to figure out gear, but its ridiculous that they would not even have the respect to sell you a highly technical piece of gear without a well written manual.

I know that these days so many companies are updating their software regularly but this is no excuse not to provide a manual all along the way.
This is a very capable and somewhat complicated console that does NOT come with a normal console setup that most people are used to.
I feel very sorry for the people who bought this board that have been lost in the use of it and I wouldn't be surprised if they sent it back.

All that being said, the console sounds excellent and has some great features but I would not recommend it to anyone who does not have the time & patients to spend trying to deal with all its features.
Its a shame that they would release something with this much investment in the technology and software just to have it never taken seriously - because they never took it seriously and released a complete product.

The iPad app is not complete and pales in comparison to the x32..... you can't even use the app without a console online (so no setting up a show unless you have the console with you)
There is no PC or Mac app yet (but you can get the scenes & presets off the board by mounting the wing drive on your computer and dragging them off)

How can I take a product seriously when you don't sell a finished product.
Sending your customers to a forum full of people of unknown background & knowledge to get info on how to use your product is just plain lame and shameful for a company to do.

My favorite piece of gear

By Sweetwater Customer

I absolutely love this machine.

Positives are obvious. Although some highlights: ultra fast patching. Only mixer it's easier to name digitally than using electrical tape. External keyboard and mouse

Only issues are minor and likely fixed by fw upgrades….no built in PA/room acoustic calibration mode (although colored noise generators etc), speaker cross-over outputs a little fiddly, no feedback destroyer fx, no external monitor, iPad app a bit weak, too right section is a waste of space and money. No built in WiFi. No iPad holder etc. small fussy stuff.

Amazing machine.

Wing + DL15x Midas Pro (blue face) stage box

By Dan O. from Chicago
Music Background: Sound Engineer

For some background, I use Digico, Avid and Midas Pro desks for my "day" job so I know my way around digital desks. If anyone is wondering, yes, you can use the pro touring stage boxes with the Wing to get that top of the line touring sound. We ordered the Wing and a DL151 which as it turns out had a very old firmware version on it. Once we updated the firmware I got the menu option to downscale the sample rate from 96k to 48k which fixed the issue we were having interfacing the DL151 and the Wing. Let me tell you, from the first "check check check" into a microphone with this combination I was in love with it. I use a Midas Pro2 at work and really wanted that warmth and punch for the blues club where this was installed for livestreaming and we got it in spades. Once we finalize the install and get the livestreams moved from the current X-32 to the Wing I'll post an update with current thoughts more specific to the Wing as it relates to our application. Thanks Jonathan and also the tech support team at Sweetwater for helping us put this together!

Great Progression from X32

By Sweetwater Customer from Los Angeles, CA

I love it, I have been using the x32 in a few different ways, and the wing its like the cherry on top if you have a behringer system with proper s16 or s32. its not a replacement for the x32, In my setup we use the WING as FOH and X32 for monitors. love the light weight and design...compared to the x32 the faders seem a tiny bit slower...but because the WING works a little differently Im not sure if it changes the time that it takes for particular mix adjustments in the moment. TBH it doesn't bother me Its all love so far...you just can't beat it for the price.

Can't be beat for the price

By Darian C. from Atlanta
Music Background: Pro Audio Engineer

I've worked on just about every live mixing console out there, and the Wing has features and aspects only found on much higher end consoles. I have not had any issues with it what so ever. They do need to put out a comprehensive user manual and an offline editor. The co pilot app is still in need of a few features, but the mixer itself is simply miles ahead of anything in its price range.
So the main things to consider if you are looking at this console is that its not 48 channels in the way you might think. It is 48 sources, which can be mono or stereo. I made all my stereo channels into single sources and have many more channels to spare. Same with the mixes. Its not just 16 auxes (same as the X32 for example). It has 16 STEREO auxes, which is great for IEM's.
Also, they haven't really advertised that all of the faders on all the banks are assignable. They have a default layout that includes everything you need as well as undefined user layers. I think its a little weird that they labeled those default layers. But you can go crazy reassigning all the faders on all the layers if you want. I found it was better to have all of my aux mixes on separate layers rather than banking down the predefined layer, for example. I have found I can do a lot less programming because I just have more control. But the whole surface is essentially user assignable. Pretty fancy...
They have a dedicated prefader 3 band EQ. So if you are mixing IEMs, and you just need a little more high end or what not, you have it separate from the mains EQ, on every channel. Also, besides the typical HP and LP filters they have tilt, which is a bit plus for me.
But the biggest thing to me is the 40bit floating point processing. I replaced an X32 with the Wing and besides having way more IO and internal rack processing, the same mix just has more dynamic range. The instruments I would push as much as I could and still wouldn't cut through the record mix, now sit there quite nicely.
One thing if you are using S series racks is I figured out how to route up to 24 outputs and you have 33-48 for the P16's. I don't think you can route outputs 25-32 to a set of S series racks in daisy chain. Of course there are 3 AES50 ports, so if you need more than 24 outputs you may need to home run them. That's more to do with the racks, though. I would think they could update the firmware on the S16 to do it.
I have been mixing on it for about 3 weeks now and there is still more to explore.

More than Amazed

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Percussionist, Producer/Engineer ex 30 year audio pro.

For years I had top shelf converters (SSL) as well as a sweet analog console. Then, after deciding to close the studio for commercial use I recently realized I could replace that with this for net zero cost. So I took the chance.

I am astounded by the quality of this equipment. And beyond happy for it's capabilities. This has inherited all the game changing features of the X32 and extended them to a almost silly level with routing and input mapping like nothing short of a computer. So the console lives up to is claims insofar as it's capabilities and routing.

What I wondered was where it would stand on sonic quality. I am not done evaluating this yet, but so far the results are surprisingly good. For example I have tested several of the reverb emulations to the hardware it is attempting to imitate with GREAT success. And of course SOME of the algorithms in the unit ARE that from the hardware (TC For example). As to the EQ and dynamics, so far I have also been super pleased. The filters on the stock EQ are very smooth and pleasing, and the features of the native EQ are extremely excellent. Kind of feels like the FabFilter product. And the emulations are very good for my testing so far. I was surprised that the Blue EQ (Maag I assume) was a silky and sweet sounding on the top. That is not easy to do, especially at 48k? And the compressors are also quite good. I have not used the native compressor much, but it seems cool. So far I have used the LA and 76 emulations, and so far I find them also to be well done. For example many 1176 emulations LOOK like the unit, but are just decent transparent compressor algs dressed up in a suit. This one seems to add the sort of crunchy stuff that you can count on various versions of the hardware to do, and the LA emulation has the ability to dial in the creamy presence on a vocal that I expect from the unit is is trying to copy.

Another really nice emulation out of the box is the Draw-more gate. It has exactly the sort of instant usefulness as the single knob/release controls ion the 241. And it dials in so fast for drums that it is just a no-brainer for that use 99% of the time.

The fact that all these emulations and the native stuff have full sidechaining and key filtering functionality is also extremely impressive.

So far I am finding recorded acoustic audio (mostly drums so far) to be surprising as well. I knew I was taking a downgrade in this area technically (no more 96k) as well as possibly even just on the electronics that support the converters. But I have to say that I am finding the quality of the recorded signal to be at least as good, if not better than my recordings with my older gear. In fact the high end just sounds less strident and more pleasing.

Perhaps it is confirmation bias? I mean I know I *want* to like it. But I really am trying to find fault as well. But I feel that working at 48k I will be able to produce a sound that rivals, if not beats what I was able to do with my more pedigreed and technically more capable gear.

It was also a very easy purchase with Sweetwater.

I am beyond pleased so far.

Amazing for Studios!

By Daniel N. from Idaho

When I bought this I was looking for a centralized hub for my studio that I could use to record into a Daw as well as utilize high fidelity effect emulations and this board does just that and it does it extremely well! Love it!

By Willcee from Kansas City
Music Background: MUSICIAN/ SOUND ENGINEER

It's a great build quality and sound is sweat. At this price point it can't be beat. Feature RICH. Looks very cool....If you have M32/x32 you will like it. The routing is a bit different but .... not really. Like the other reviewer said once you get it you realize its actually easier. Especially with the new firmware 1.06 input meters in every screen etc. Go to musictribe and read the release notes for firmware 1.06. Touch screen is better than a ipad....for sure. multi touch. The few guys who sold theirs because they couldn't just walk up and use the board will probably regret it later. Youtube now has a Behringer tutorials for all the routing in depth so don't worry about a paper manual. Behringer could you post a template for the new buyers to get started and all will be fine. Thanks and hope this helps someone considering the purchase.

Doesn't suit me

By Sweetwater Customer

I've spent the past couple weeks attempting to get my head around the WING. There's a number of issues that have come up regarding the unit. I dissatisfied with inability to do what I would consider "simple routing" I have found it nearly impossible to input my Roland RE-201 as an AUX send and return to a channel. I had to go to online forum for assistance/guidance the moderator first asked with the excellent onboard effects why use the Roland RE-201. Than states "the setup and routing is not simple" Secondarily I produce organic sounding Americana, roots reggae, dub, ambient, etc, regularly record straight to Teac 80-8 1/2 in tape. Again there are routing issues, albeit I could use the WING, Midas preamps to go straight into my DAW defeating the entire "organic" sound. At this price point the lack of a comprehensive "User Guide" is a complete and utter failure on Behringers' part. I'm aware the cost of providing a huge manual would be expensive but there could and should be a manual available online. It's a superb piece of equipment, very well could be the future of digital mixers, but it doesn't meet my direct needs or demands. At this point my plan is to return the unit and go analog.

Behringer WING

By Mike M. from Fort Wayne, IN

I was worried about buying it so soon after its release (no manual even... just a few pages of "Quick Start guide") I did have to spend a few hours with it... but I was really able to get a handle on it without a manual.

It approaches things quite a bit differently... but done so in a most elegant way. After getting your brain around "routing", the next most notable difference is the processing power. Yes double the Fx processors... but also the ability to put "premium" compression and EQ plugins on every single channel.

These new compressors made a HUGE difference in the overall sound quality. The mix for my first show was WAY better than any previous mixes... and it will only continue to get better with more experimentation.

Our church made the switch to this board from the Midas M32. It's honestly a game changer. I feel like Behringer has thought of everything and packed it into this board.

Routing is simplified and really intuitive. Effects are great. Love the ability to swap out the built in compressor or EQ per channel for an analog modeled plugin such as the LA-2A or the SSL or Maag EQ. It's way more flexible in so many ways. I was a bit worried the touch screen wouldn't be very fluid or easy to use, but to my surprise it is an incredibly responsive and great screen. It makes labeling channels significantly faster.

And the sound.. I feel like the sound quality is on par or better than the X32/M32. It was compatible with our existing DL16 stage boxes and we aren't using the built in pres, but I know the Midas Pro preamps are incredible and we'll definitely be using it for studio work in the future.

This is a no brainer for the price and a great follow up to the X32. Great work Behringer!
