EVH Wolfgang Standard QM Electric Guitar - Trans Amber Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Basswood Body, Quilt Maple Top, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Floyd Rose Tremolo - Trans Amber

Built to Eddie Van Halen's exacting standards, the EVH Wolfgang WG Standard QM is brimming with playability and ferocious tone. And it's supremely eye-catching, thanks to its gorgeous quilt maple top. Dual direct-mounted EVH Wolfgang humbuckers yield a distinctive woody character and ample sustain. The Wolfgang's 1-piece bolt-on maple neck is reinforced with graphite rods, ensuring maximum stability and resistance to temperature and humidity. An EVH-branded Floyd Rose Special tremolo and locking nut maintain intonation — even after extreme dive-bombing. The EVH Wolfgang WG Standard QM reflects a commitment to quality worthy of the extraordinary guitarist it's named after.

Absolutely Beautiful

By Charles Kelly from Ponca City, OK on January 31, 2024

This is my 2nd Wolfgang Standard the first was the Chorine Burst and I couldn't be happier. I've done a lot of comparisons and dollar for dollar EVH knocks it out of the park. I don't gig just a hobbyist but I like everything about this guitar, no sharp frets, smooth neck and with the 55 point inspection it was perfect right out of the box. The craftmanship is Awesome!
I would highly recommend.

Hand Down ~ Best Guitar Out There

I've owned dozens of guitars and for me, the Wolfgang Standards are just the best - PERIOD!
Add the D-Tuna and call it a day.

This guitar simply hasn’t stopped being fun

Like many of you, Eddie's passing inspired me to pick up an axe for the first time an many years. I chose this model based on its stylistic similarity to the Axis Mr. Van Halen used in Live Right Here Right Now.

It took me about 30 minutes on YouTube to become better at playing this guitar than I ever was playing my 1992 MIM Fender Strat. The feel of this guitar is so darn intuitive.

The tone sounds great, the Sweetwater setup was on-point and Stephen Oppenheim is a great sales engineer. The kicker is that I ordered the guitar on November 3, and despite Stephen notifying me that the guitar wouldn't be available until 3/2021, I had it under my Christmas tree on 12/19/2020!

The NYXL 9/42 strings Sweetwater used in the setup have taken a beating and still sound great five months later. I installed the D-Tuna on the Floyd Rose Special and it works exactly as advertised. The Floyd holds tune just fine but I'll admit that I don't use the tremolo that often. The tremolo mounts to a threaded fitting and sometimes works its way loose, creating a vibrating sound that could be mistaken for fret buzz. A little Teflon tape solved that issue. Best money I've spent

Innovative?

A very very comfortable guitar to play, the belly cut is more at the rear of the body and the forearm contour is my favorite by far. The bridge appears to be set farther back at the end of the body which sucks the neck more into body, making it feel like you're playing a shorter scale guitar than what it really is. The neck is great slightly on the small side but very smooth and fast. More guitars need to come with a roasted maple neck with an oil or hand rubbed finish. The Fret work is where I have an issue and main reason for not giving it five stars. Smoothest fret ends ever and the rounded fretboard absolutely love it!!! The problem is the top of the frets are rounded off way too much at least for me. The High and low E strings slide off the fretboard pretty easily if you're not careful or a little sloppy like me! The tuning heads and the fine tuners on the Floyd Rose are not the smoothest, but they do stay in tune, (probably should knock down to four stars but). These pickups and guitar absolutely deliver if you want that Eddie tone but good luck trying to sound like him! Although the fret issue is huge, it's a keeper at least until I get my hands on one that doesn't have that issue.(Are you listening Michael) Guitar was playable right out of the box and almost tuned a half step down. As always Five Star service from Sweetwater and Michael Eads, Thank you very much!

WG standards

The nut width and the baked neck keeps me coming back for more. AT this point, I have a ziricote, a sunset and an amber quilt. They play great and have only needed minimal tweaks at least what I consider minimal. You have to remember that these are flush mounted floyds just like the axis and if the action is too high after decking the floyd, welcome to the world of adding shims. All guitars were spec 4/64s action out of the box. The pickups are slightly darker than the wolfgang pickups found in the ridiculously priced American model. The top does make a sound difference to my ears. Comparing all three, and it could be basswood related, but my ziricote is the brightest followed by the amber quilt then the birch. All three maintain tune even after complete vibrato abuse. You may want to upgrade the saddle block inserts right away.

It's a Wolf

Very nice guitar at this price point. However, This guitar is lacking a little on tuning stability. The floyd on this guitar is a little low end. I mean I get it. It's a standard. Holds tuning okay I guess, but even at $... there are other companies that don't seem to struggle here. It's cool though man. I'll work it out. Set up was nice from Sweetwater. As always thank you all. Now for the good news. The pickups are cool. Sound great. Fit and finish are on point. The neck is crazy bad to the bone. Love it. She's a keeper. Thank you Brian Hughes. Peace to all my brothers and sisters in tone. Crank it to 11!
