Wuhan China review

By Ludmila D. from NEWARK, DE

I am very happy with the purchase, great sound for its price!

Love it

By Sweetwater Customer

Personal preference, but I love the sound of a Wuhan over the more expensive chinas. The negative review called it a trash can lid, but that's the appeal to me. If you want a nasty trashy china, this is the one and you can't beat the price. Durability hasn't been an issue for me, my son and I play and we're both heavy handed. Cymbals will inevitably crack over time, but I've gotten years out of both 18" Wuhans I've owned.

I'm sorry but no

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought this because it was cheap. I had a used Zildjian China back in the day but broke it eventually. This was only like $65 back around 2019,so I thought why not? How bad can it be? Well, it sounds like a trash can lid but worse. Sounds just awful compared to the old Zildy. Admittedly it's a little better with a loud rock band covering it up some. But it's just a cheap sound for a cheap cymbal. Harsh, loud, obnoxious.

Quick and trashy. Sound characteristics are par with more expensive options. A great value.

Sounds really good for a china, though it's the first thing I ordered here, I'm really happy about it, it will make good for original/ cover songs

Perfect!

By Gabe C. from MIDLAND, MI
Music Background: Drummer for a couple years, also play bass

It has an amazing sound for heavy metal/ hard rock music. A nice medium dark sound with the effect amount of sustain. I also love the brilliant finish and the durability of it!

great China

By MIchael O. from Ling Island
Music Background: Musician/Producer

I heard somebody say it broke within 6 months and used it until he replaced it. Sweetwater has a 2-Year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty, I bought an electronic drum kit from them, and when I had a pedal that didn't work, and they were not even expensive, they sent me a new MOD 2 new pedals, a new wiring harness, and 3 new cymbals...which when bought separately would have cost 2/3rd of the set...Sweetwater always takes care of you,

THE BEST CHINA I'VE USED YET!!!!!!!

By JOSHUA J. from MILLBROOK, AL
Music Background: PLAYING DRUMS FOR 30 YEARS,45 OLD, PLAYED IN BANDS, BUT I JUST PLAY FOR THE PLEASURE NOW. IT'S MY VICE. LOVE TO PLAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.PLAY WITH A FEW PEOPLE HERE AND THERE.

OK, FIRST OFF, I HAVE STAYED AWAY FROM THIS WUHAN,BECAUSE OF THE COST. I HAVE USED THE SABIAN 17",19" AA HOLY CHINA'S, SABIAN AA CHINA, AAX 17" AND 19" EXTREME CHINAS. THE ZILDJIAN 18" ORIENTAL TRASH CHINA, PROBABLY MY FAVORITE UNTIL I DECIDED TO GIVE THIS A TRY. WOW. I WISH I'D GOTTEN THIS 18" SOONER. NOW I THINK I'LL HAVE TO GET THE 20" ALSO, I TESTED A SABIAN PARAGON 20", THIS SOUNDS BETTER THAN ANY OF THEM. VERY DARK AND TRASHY. I'M USING SABIAN HHX DAVE WECKL HI HATS, AAX XPLOSION 18" CRASH, SABIAN 18" HHX XPLOSION CRASH, A SABIAN 22" BRILLIANT PARAGON RIDE. GOING TO GET ONE MORE CRASH. I LIKE THE ISTANBUL CYMBALS. SO MIGHT TRY A 20" THIN MODEL. IF NOT A AAX 20" THIN OR HHX 20" THIN. YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS CHINA. I MISSED OUT FOR 30 YEARS. AND THE PRICE IS VERY NICE TOO. THIS SI SOMETHING YOU HAVE MISSED OUT ON. THIS A VERSITLE CYMBAL. IF YOU WANT A CHINA,GET ONE MADE IN CHINA. MISSED GEM IN THE CYMBAL MARKET!!!!!!

Great sound but...

By JC from Raleigh

I loved the first one I purchased but it cracked in 6 months, used it until it became unusable and bought another. They definitely sounded much different from each other but still sounded great. The second Wuhan also cracked in 6 months. I have an expensive Paiste Rude china and an expensive Zildjian ultra-hammered china, but would actually prefer the Wuhan sound. But the Paiste and Zildjian are both over 4 years old without any cracks, so spend your money wisely.

Awesome china

By Kory L. from Bay City, TX
Music Background: 20+ years playing drums.

I bought mine back before the price inflated to 88 bucks. I think I paid 25 dollars for it, back when I realized that even Neil Peart played these suckers before he had his own signature series with Sabian. Well worth what you pay for it though.

Budget cymbal PRICEY SOUND

By coach d. from Tennessee
Music Background: iSuck

If you aren't aware that Wuhan makes an amazing China then you're welcome because now that you are reading this you have no reason to assume otherwise. It's not even "their chinas sound good for the money" they just sound good period. For a fraction of the price of a bigger brand you can get a well made China cymbal in various different sizes that not only stands up to those bigger brands but I'd say out does and holds up better than most others.

Wuhan China

By Bam B. from Twin Cities
Music Background: rocking the skins 4 over 15 years

Wuhan makes the best China cymbals for the money. Add a 12" wuhan china and you have the trashiest pair of chinas you could dream for, second time around pairing these two on my kit and probably won't change it in the future.

Best China EVER

By Owen G. from Sacramento
Music Background: 4 years of drums

You really shouldn't go and get a $200-$300 China cymbal. If you like something that hits hard and decays fast this is your cymbal.

Great sound, not long lasting

By Micah E.

For me, this China cymbal sounded great. Worked for what I needed, and I don't have any complaints with it in that regard. The only downside I found was it didn't last me very long, developing a crack fairly quickly.
Overall, a great cymbal I would recommend to anyone

Wuhan 18" China.

By Chris B. from Morocco, IN

Great cymbal! Very loud and powerful with a quick decay. Compliments my 14 and 16 inch Wuhan China's perfectly! And thank you Stuart Niven for the call thanking me and checking to see that everything was okay with my purchase!

Better than what you pay for

By chuck (. from dalzell, SC
Music Background: One time weekend warrior

When I first heard Bill Bruford's trash cymbal smack down on King Crimson's "Red Nightmare," it had me appreciating the noise made from a bent up thrown away cymbal. Bruford stated that had pulled the discarded cheapster from a studio trash can, and decided he could make use of the tones emitted from the tin lid. He used the cymbal on tour until it finally fell apart. I became inspired! Using an old 16 inch cheapie that was lying around the basement, I bent the edge up until I had a home made china of my own, and it sounded marvelous! Like Bruford's, my lid fell apart after about a year's worth of repeated abuse.

Since then, I've had only three china cymbals: a Paiste 18" 2000 mellow china, a Zildjian 18" high china, and a 16" Wuhan. Where am I going with this ramble? Simply stated, I don't hold a cork sniffer's attitude when it comes to china cymbals. To my ears, Wuhan sounds just great! I feel it's the way a china cymbal is supposed to sound. After all, Wuhans are hand made in China. Who am I to tell the Chinese how to make their namesake cymbal, and what kind of logic is there in saying the Swiss' and the Turk's methods make for better china cymbals than that of the Chinese?

In fact, I like my Wuhan 16" so much, I thought I'd add an 18" to my noise arsenal. Not disappointed! The instrument holds a tone that resides between my old Paiste and Zildjian: not as mellow as the Paiste, and not as shrill as the Zildjian. And the icing on the cake; when it eventually disintegrates, I wont break the bank to have it replaced!

Great Cymbal for money

By steve z. from Ohio

This cymbal is a great deal for the money. It is very trashy but very quick. If you are looking for a china with sustain this isn't your cymbal. It is made decent but probably won't last forever but for 80 bucks who cares. I recommended this product!

Wuhan Cymbals

By Darrin T. from New York

I've been using Wuhan for about 20 years. Such a great, INEXPENSIVE way to add great, pro sounding cymbals to a kit - beginner or pro alike - and up your sound to a new level. You won't be disappointed in Wuhan
