Replaced bottom heads with Evans G1 clear, and tops with Evans g2 coated. AMAZING sounds. Highly recommended.

The new Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch is just as good if not better than the B/B that proceeded it. At first I was skeptical that it would live up to the B/B"s but after hearing the tone of the Walnut, I have to honestly say they"re even better sounding to my ears. Although the difference is minimal, they seem to be a bit clearer, not as dark, but just as full sounding. Tama is restless in finding ways to constantly improve themselves. The combination of these shells with diecast hoops and Evans G2 clear heads produce a tone that is focused with plenty of clarity on top and a nice fat fullness following. If you want more warmth and less attack, put some coated G2"s on top for a more universal sound. The Emad kick batter is also an excellent choice if you want more focused low end without having to use much if any internal dampening inside the shell. These babies project! They sound off and then get out of the way (sound engineers dream). The hardware is unbelievably great and ahead of the pack. Don"t let the price fool you, this is an all around professional kit that will serve you well for just about any style of music with the right head changes and tuning. For the price you will not find a better kit than this. The Tama SLP G-Walnut pairs well with this kit. If the budget isn"t there for this kit, be sure to check out the Tama Superstars!
