Warm Audio WA-84 Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone - Stereo Pair (Nickel) Reviews
Their acclaimed compressors and preamps have famously upset the pro audio price/performance ratio. When Warm Audio turned its attention to the granddaddy of small-diaphragm FET condenser microphones, you know it had to be good. And it is. Flash back to any top recording studio in the 1970s. You'll see the venerable '84 everywhere. Sweetwater engineers who have worked with different generations of this perennial studio favorite know that the vintage ones have a warmer, more forgiving sonic character. It's these circuit designs — dating back nearly half a century — that Warm Audio closely followed for the WA-84. Stellar performance, top-shelf parts, and amazing value: that's the Warm formula — and the WA-84 nails it.

Excellent value for money
I bought these intending to use them as drum overheads. While they certainly excel at that task, they also sound great on other sources! I've used them on acoustic guitar, mandolin and a second mic on a guitar amp. They've become my go-to for acoustic guitar, especially fingerpicked when the detail is important.
WA-84 Stereo Pair
Very impressed with this pair. These are the perfect small diaphragm condensers for acoustic guitar or drum overheads. Warm sounding and very articulate. A very good reproduction of the original. I compared them directly with a pair of Shure KSM141s and these are definitely more musical. Also great when you pair a WA84 with a WA251 on acoustic guitar. Great combined sound. Thanks Warm Audio and Sweetwater!
Killer mics for sure!
These things have an awesome color to them when you saturate the transformers in them. I was really kind of underwhelmed before i started doing that to them. My sales rep AJ gave me that pointer and now i love them!
Smooth and Detailed Sound
Used these to record an acoustic guitar, referencing the configuration shown in Mitch Gallagher's video. In the DAW I set up separate mono tracks for left and right, respectively. Since I'm a one-man show, I didn't get the mic placement exactly right. So, the signals wound up being ever so slightly out of phase. Placed the Sound Radix Auto Align plug-in on the tracks and - BAM! - a beautifully rich sounding stereo image jumped out of the monitors. Clear high end, excellent mid-range detail, tight low end, no harshness. To get that kind of result at this price point is terrific.
Bryce Young and his team at Warm Audio continue to push the envelope in delivering high quality versions of classic gear that would otherwise be beyond the reach of the average musician's budget. Also big thanks to my Sales Engineer, Mike Harris (x1382). Into our second decade working together.
