Great home studio amp

By Greggory Jenkins from Sheffield Village, OH on November 10, 2023 Music Background: 10 years writing, playing, and mixing my own music.

I got this for my home setup. It works great with my Bass, electric guitar, and acoustic. The effects are decent and the tone is great. I know this is an IOS platform amp, but I loaded it on both my IPhone and Android. The android controlled the amp flawlessly while the apple did nothing. I'm glad since I'm an android/PC guy. You won't be disappointed with this at this price.

I remember my first Peavey amp 40 years ago. A Peavey backstage! This Peavey Vypyr is awesome! Wish I had this amp back in '83!

Best priced solid state combo amp available

By Jamil from Portland, OR on July 26, 2022 Music Background: Amateur musician for 15 years

I've been searching for a good reasonably priced 60+ watt combo amp to practice and play small gigs with for a while. I like some of Fenders products but wasnt particularly moved by their LT or GTX series. Boss Katana was solid as well but something just didnt sit right with the dynamic range of the higher distortion sounds to me. Then i played a 5150 tube stack at my friends house and it kinda clicked that i should give this Vypyr a try and see if it could emulate at least 80% of that feeling.. Folks, this amp can RIP it does an exceptional job of providing the classic peavey sounds. Clean tones are more than passable and it sounds good at both bedroom and club levels (once you dial in LMH and gain stages). 9/10 would recommend!

Killer Amp

By Tom Cline from Richfield Springs, NY on March 5, 2022 Music Background: 37 years of playing metal.

I've been waiting for this amp for a while and it finally became available so I bought it right away. I was not disappointed. The sound of this small amp is incredible. I'm only using it for practice when I'm not recording in my home studio. However, it could easily be used in a full band setting if mic'd up. I play thrash/melodic death metal. The presets sound so good. I can't wait to hook this up to my PC to download editing software. There's so much to explore with this unit. This beats all other modeling amps by a landslide.

An excellent amp

By Charlie Vaughn from McMinnville Tennessee on April 9, 2024 Music Background: keyboardist/organist/arranger/guitarist

I ordered the Peavy Vypyr X3 1X12 inch 100 watt modeling guitar amp from Sweetwater to use at my church. I am the organist and we have a rather loud praise team at the church with four guitars and a dobro, drum, bass piano and about a half dozen singers. I was able to hear the acoustic guitar for the first time, it sounded good and the amp has not given us any problems. Like I said, it sounds good and is pleasant to hear with the different models available in the unit.
This amp is an excellent choice for acoustic guitar players in churches or bands needing something that can sound loudly without distorting.

Amazing budget modeling amp

By Jerrod Messick from Lexington, KY on August 15, 2023

I have been testing out various solid state amps that produce good, tube-sounding high gain tones for metal (trying to give my tubes a break when simply jamming/practicing) and have tried the BOSS Katana, and the Fender Mustang GTX, and this one blows the others out of the water. The BOSS has that "obviously solid state" sound when in higher gain territories, and the Fender Mustang GTX gets some of those tube sounds (the chug sound) but sounds very boxy regardless of what settings you're using.

With the Peavey Vypyr X3, it solved both issues quite nicely. For metal high gain tones, I use the XXX crunch channel (square icon) with the Power Sponge knob at about 70% (2 o clock) and it gets a very rich sounding tube quality that doesn't feel boxy or overly solid state.

I also run into this thing with a boost pedal of some sort (sometimes a TS9, sometimes a JHS Bonsai, sometimes a Wazacraft Metal Zone, sometimes an EHX East River Drive, or Crayon, or Hot Tubes) and it sounds great with any of them. All that to say that any boost you run into this thing will probably sound great and send the tone to the next level.

For the price, this thing gets some awesome tones and the amp is loud as hell if you need it to be. Definitely recommend for any use where a tube amp isn't required.

Wait on this one....

By Keith Lesniak from CHICAGO, IL on April 26, 2022 Music Background: 20 year + musician

I recently bought this amp, and also recently returned it. I love Sweetwater, they made no hassle of it what so ever. I think Peavey makes great products, I own a Peavey guitar that someone gave me that I love, and I mean Vai plays out of Peavey amps because they make their equipment for passive pick ups.

So, with that being said, wait on buying this one if you are a serious player. I had issues with the power supply. I would be practicing and the amp would flat out turn off, or turn off and then the digital display would blink. I'm not sure if it was just my unit or if the model hasn't had all the kinks worked out yet. The BLUETOOTH feature sounds terrible if you want to play at any significant volume. The amp vibrates like crazy when you play the bass out of it. There are some seriously cool sounds when it comes to the amp combos and effects and if you want to use this for practice at a medium range volume and play multiple guitars, an amp like this seems like a good idea. Be prepared to do some manual reading. Which is also confusing. The video "quick start" guide offers little help in terms of how to use the amp. Also they say there is an app which I had absolutely no success finding.

I bought this amp because my 20 year old solid state crapped out on me. There's a reason people still use the old stuff...
I don't use many pedals so I thought this would be a cool way to explore without spending a ton of money, but I'd rather just get my old amp worked on and buy a multi effects pedal.

This amp is difficult to use. Bottom line there's a reason I tried it, and a reason I returned it. If you don't like pressing buttons and navigating through a digital menu or naming your settings one letter at a time like you are putting your email into something with your TV remote, Don't buy this amp. There is just simply too much going on.
It was an experiment in the digital world that made me realize I'm an analog guy, I like to see my pedals and settings.
I will say this, with your settings on this amp, you will be able to see what levels you have everything set at.
Try something like this before you really decide to keep it, despite the NON-FUNCTIONING aspect of the power supply, the amp is cool and I would have liked it to be a better experience, but it's just not for me.
