Great Vocoder!
I had a tcelectronic talk box pedal, I sold it and got this, the blend knob is a game changer, always sounds great! I love Electro-Harmonix pedals, they make great sounding, reliable products that are a deffinetly worth the price!
Wonderful addition
I bought the Voice BOX July of 2017. Well, now that were COVID-19 homebound I thought I'd finally write a review.
My wife and I perform together. I play the guitar, she plays the Ukulele and we both sing.
We use the Voice Box at every gig.
We both can sing harmony for the other, but some songs need more voices. We narrowed our harmony settings to 4.
It's a wonderful addition.
In 2019 we had 87 gigs. In 2020 we played 14 gigs before everything shut down. We can't wait to hit the road again. Be safe
Great vocal processor
This is the second similar vocal processor I have bought, thus one is the better of the two... it tracks really well, and follows my guitar key accurately. You can make multi part harmonies sound good, or you can just dial a little reverb in if you are looking for a more subtle effect. The band and I definitely like messing around with it, can't wait to use it live when that can happen again. One note is that it is probably best not to run on your pedalboard unless you are sticking with just one setting. I mounted it on my mic stand, and can adjust much easier on the fly.
Perfect for the home studio...and always great service from Sweetwater!
I bought the Electro-Harmonix Voice Box for use as a home studio gadget, and so far so good....and Sweetwater's processing, shipping speed and follow up are second to none!
The Voice Box is awesome
I just bought the Electro Harmonix Voice Box and it rocks. The vocoder works great and sounds really cool when it's triggered by a guitar. The harmony modes work great, just as long as you sing on pitch. If not, there's still the octave and whistle mode that work great and don't have to follow the key you're playing in.
The Voice Box also sounds really cool when you put horns through it instead of vocals. It's definitely a sick toy.
wonderful sound
A fun and great sounding vocoder, the VOICE BOX is simple as can be and really versitile.
Great piece of equipment to add to your show
Lot of capability, lot of options. I use this for my solo shows and it really helps a lot. I'm used to singing with two other guys but this really sounds like a whole chorus of people. Only thing is, you can't run phantom power from your board to it otherwise you'll get a hum so I use a XLR to 1/4" adapter.
Great piece of equipment
This "Voice Box" is pure magic. I have a small (Yamaha) PA system which I use for small local venues, retirement homes, church groups, jam sessions, etc. I consider myself a semi-pro as I think I was actually paid once. Plugged the box in and had a great time entertaining myself for a couple of hours. A word of caution, use a good microphone for best results. A cheap mic produces a less than desirable sound and doesn't do "the Box" justice.
Excellent!!
Perfect for "doubling" my voice. Very smooth n realistic.
Freakin' Awesome!
Had my first play with this great pedal yesterday and I've never had so much fun (or worked so hard, jeez I need to work on my pitch ;-)
If you're looking for a simple vocal harmoniser, this is about as simple as they get and still work, and this works really well. Yes, you're limited to the standard presets and one variation of each, but the versatility in each preset should accomodate a typical 3 or 4 setlist.
The easiest way to use this is to give it it's own mic, just to one side of your main mic and set it to all effect/no dry, giving a whole channel on your mixer to harmonies, separate to your main vocal channel. Moving your mouth to equally between the 2 mics is easy than trying to stomp the pedal on and off for harmonies.
There are better units, but not at this price, and the ease of use makes it great for solo or small combo use. Seriously, playing with this is the most fun you can have with clothes on, and it won't drink the bar tab dry like real backing singers ;-)
NICE LITTLE BOX
The Voice Box from Electro-Harmonix is a pretty nice box. I had a harmonizer from them back in the early 80's. It was very well made and served me well on the road. This unit is just as robust and I look forward to many years with it. I haven't had a chance to really get into it, but I did find it very intuitive to set up. I'll meed more time tuning the harmonies though. Being a D J, I really wanted it for the vocoder function and it works really well. It is a bit noisy but nothing a little noise reduction can't take care of. I have already used in in a couple pieces of production. By the way, the service and delivery from Sweetwater was excellent! They even provided some sweets to enjoy with the product.
Not very usable if you need quality sound
This pedal does work like it says. However, it adds reverb (and lots of it) even when the reverb knob is all the way down. There's no way to completely turn it off unless the pedal is bypassed. What good is that? Almost EVERY system you play through will already have reverb or delay effects already processing on your vocal channel so if you can't run this pedal dry, you get normal reverb through PA when bypassed but when engaged, there's way too much. The reverb is so present it stands out like a sore thumb when engaged. And aren't we all looking for a NATURAL sound? Also, there's no ground lift switch like on most other pedals of this type. We weren't able to even have it hooked up on the pedalboard of the other guitar player because it made a horrible loud noise. When we used our other pedal on his board (it has a ground lift switch), it was totally silent. This pedal is unusable for live sound or anywhere you need to perform to an audience.
Don’t waste your money
I wish I had returned it. I've used several harmonizers and nothing compares to the Digitech Vocalist 5 for ease of operation and end results. Unfortunately, they're no longer made and eBay is your best bet. I didn't hear anything that was remotely usable on this EH unit
