Foot-controlled Effects Loop with Mic Preamp, 2-band EQ, and Dry/Wet Blend Control

Radial's Voco-Loco is a foot-controlled effects loop that lets you integrate guitar effects pedals into your vocal or acoustic instrument sound. Whether you're a singer or horn player, it all starts with Voco-Loco's high-quality mic preamp. 2-band EQ lets you add warmth and shimmer. The signal then goes to your guitar pedals via a transformer-isolated hi-Z effects loop with individual send/receive controls. A tone control on the return path lets you tweak your effects, while the blend control lets you mix the original dry signal with your effects. Why should guitarists have all the fun? Upstage 'em, with Radial's Voco-Loco.

Radial Voco-Loco for Violin

By Wyatt Murray from Cincinnati, OH on May 9, 2022 Music Background: Sound Engineer/Double Bassist

This preamp works great! We're using it on a violin with an Audio-Technica pro 35 and love how easy it is to use and the flexibility it provides. Initially we were just looking for a mute pedal, but then we found this -- It's a very clean preamp that also allows us to add reverb/delay pedals to the violin's signal chain with a phantom power mic. Very sturdy, quality piece of gear!

Just what I've been looking for

By Andrew from California on March 18, 2020

I'm using this to run a Sennheiser dynamic microphone through some boutique guitar pedals and it's working great to boost the mic signal without adding noise and gives me more control over how I mix the effects in. Feels like a sturdy beast.

Voco loco a great invention

By Brandon from Vista, CA on April 15, 2014 Music Background: Musician, recording hobbyist

It is awesome to be able to use my guitar pedal effects for vocals. It is ideal to have ton of control of how much wet and dry signal I send to the mix. It opens up great possibilities for vocals.

Gamechanger

By Sweetwater Customer on January 28, 2018

It does what it says. Its amazing. I use it for live performances, with some strymon timeline delay and bluesky reverb on the vocals. The sounds is fantastic. Good tone shaping ability.

Highly recommended

My only negative is the power, a bit tricky to get power from a standard guitar pedal power supply.

Pristine sound, tons of flexibility

By Chris DuPont from Ypsilanti, MI on February 10, 2017 Music Background: Touring singer/songwriter

I use the Voco-Loco to integrate vocal looping with my Ditto X2, and it gives me a great deal of flexibility and sound quality.

I've seen lots of artists get good results looping guitar and vocals with a Boss RC-30 (which has guitar and mic inputs), but I was never crazy about the sound quality, the lack of mic EQ capabilities, and the occasional feedback issues. I opted for a Ditto X2 due to its sound quality, and perfect stereo separation, allowing me to keep guitar and vocal loops going to separate mix channels. But with the X2 having only 1/4" I/O, I initially had to use a travel mixer to get mic signal in, and a DI box to get mic signal out. The gain-staging was always clunky, and my pedal board was cluttered.

What I love about the Voco-Loco is that it is a true effects loop. Plug a mic in, and send a line-level XLR signal out, and you can easily dial in your effect blend with the onboard controls. You get a ton of flexibility, which is especially important for something as touchy as vocal looping. Being able to adjust the send/receive levels gives me a lot of power over the "mix" of my layered vocal parts, and the "tone" knob is a very welcome bonus. You can darken or brighten the tone of your wet signal, which can lead to some compelling sonic painting.

I've also found that the preamp in this unit just sounds great, and the EQ is helpful and relatively transparent. It cleans up an SM58 nicely, and will be worth it to some performers just for the improved quality of the dry mic signal!

If you're looking to incorporate effected vocals, or try pulling off some Ed Sheeran stunts, this box will give you the control you need to get great results at every show.

I only have one critique of this unit. I do wish the loop wet/dry button would kill the "send" and "receive," but it only kills the "receive." For many applications, this is no issue. But if you are doing vocal looping (like I am), having the "send" always on (unless you manually pull the knob all the way down) means that mic signal is always flowing through your looper pedal. Thus, if you record some looped guitar with no vocals, the Voco-Loco is still sending mic signal into your looper pedal. Hopefully radial comes up with a mod option for this. I solved the issue by adding a killswitch in my pedal chain, right after the "send" from the Voco-Loco.

Long story short, this is a clean, classy pedal that will make any looping rig consistent and classy. Definitely worth the investment.
