Greatest Creation of Humankind

Hyperbole, perhaps. But barely. It took me far too many years to figure out that the most important pedals for getting sweet tone are the simplest: boosts and compressors. A proper boost into your tube amp sends your fab clean/overdriven/distorted tones into tone heaven. Even your favorite dirt pedal can usually benefit from running a boost or compressor before or after. (SD Pickup Booster into Big Muff Pi with TW will melt your face off). So here we have an incredibly quiet, articulate, subtle to obvious (but can't get extreme) compressor which is worth the price of admission based on this alone. Blend knob takes it to another level - you'll get a clean tone you can't believe once you master it. Next throw in a tone shaping toggle switch that you'll use every once in a while as a change of pace... sounds great every time you flip it. Oh, and then there's the gobs of clean headroom (50 db!?) so that this pedal doubles as a boost. He** it's got more clean boost than most of my boost pedals! Seriously for two months after getting this it was Vise Grip and amp ONLY. Of course can't stay away from other pedals for too long. Buy it. Buy more. Build a shrine. One con: plastic battery door ain't going to last. Version 1 SD pedals were all metal.

Best Compressor Pedal Ever

I've played all the great compressor pedals, and then some. This is the best I've played in my 35 years of guit-boxing. It does clean sustain, it does chicken pickin, it does squishy, it does clean boost, and it can mix most of the above. Compressors are noisy by nature at high compression levels, but this one is less fizzy than others. The Mix knob is a huge boon, and let's you, say, do the squishy squashy, but keep some pick attack and chime intact. The Hi/Full/Mid switch lets you cut through when you want to, or get a killer funk tone. I can't think of anything bad about this pedal. For serious. Overall, this pedal has a huge range of tones. It'll give your solos sustain, or it can give you that Dyna Comp country tone. It is well built (the top where the jacks are is NOT plastic any more, it's one solid enclosure), and all the controls and switches are easy to operate. Boo-teek sound and features at a great price.

Vice Grip

Finally a pedal compressor that is transparent and clean and isn't a $2000 piece of rack gear. Hallelujah.

BEST comnpressor of all

I have played and owned many many compressors in my life. The boss, the MXR, and number of more boutique brands. This compressor was such a pleasant surprise. It is exactly what I look for in a compressor: transparency. If I can HEAR it working, then its not doing its job transparently. THIS compressor can be totally transparent. Its a combination of the mix control and the eq switch that makes this special. The Wampler Ego is pretty good too but it differs in the way it approaches its eq and ends up not being AS transparent as the Duncan to my ears. The build quality is FIRST rate. This pedal knocks my Bogner Harlow Boost off my pedal board (which was a fun and musical compressor). This is a seriously great compressor. It CAN do all the over the top compressor sounds too...but it can also disappear and just make you sound awesome too!

Vise Grip Compressor Pedal

This pedal works with a 9v adapter or an 18v adapter. I use the 18v for more head room (control). There are 4 suggested base settings depending on what sound you're trying to achieve. From your chosen setting, you can fine tune the pedal's knobs to find the sound you like most. This pedal is very affective and versatile as a compressor pedal.
