Single-coil Strat-style Pickup - White

Load your guitar with a Seymour Duncan SSL-2 Vintage Flat Strat pickup, and immerse yourself in euphoric Stratocaster chime and sparkle. This pickup delivers true single-coil Strat tone, but its flat rod magnets are better suited for modern instruments with flatter fingerboards and lighter strings. The flat pole pieces also exhibit less edge for a slightly smoother tone. Great for country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska, and classic rock, the SSL-2 really shines when you use clean and mildly distorted amp settings. Hand-ground Alnico V magnets and moderate windings give you a vintage output and brightness that work best with warmer-toned ash, alder, or basswood guitars, especially those with rosewood fingerboards.

Amazing

By James S. from NC

Almost 2 years with this in the neck of my Godin and I love it! I went with the ssl2 instead of the ssl1 because of the 12" radius on my hss. Anyways, this is a good neck pickup. Gives me everything I personally wanted tone wise which was a classic sound with good response to my playing. It sounds great with all types of drives. I paired it with the matching middle ssl2 and a 59 trembucker in the bridge. I wanted a "modern" feel for a hss guitar but with a vintage sound and Seymour Duncan delivered without fail in the sound department.

Perfection

By Sweetwater Customer from CA

Honestly the best strat pickup I have found in 20 years of noodling on a strat. I've tried alot of pups and I don't think you will find many that will beat this pickup in neck and neck/middle for a nice balanced classic strat sound. Overwound pickups cannot deliver this sound and chime, the eq changes with hotter pickups.

Flat pole pieces give them wonderful balance. Really glad I gave them a shot.

Great Pickups

By Doyle B. from NC
Music Background: Mostly praise and worship nowadays, but play all genres; from Mayer to Maiden

I bought the SSL-2 for the neck and middle position on my strat and it was the best decision I have made in pickups in a long time. I paired them with an ssl-6 in the bridge and a wiring harness from mojotone and this guitar is incapable of getting a bad sound now. No mater what amp i plug it into; Marshall Origin 20c, Marshall Class 5, Fender Blues Jr, Fender Pro Jr, Badcat Cougar 5 it sounds great in all of them. You can get anything from Mayer and Hendrix to SRVish tones. the SSL-6 in the bridge is capable of very clean to a great hard rock and blues tones with right overdrive pedal, sounds great with a JHS Morning Glory. I couldnt decide on what pickups to get but i am very glad i got the SD SSl pickups.

Perfect choice!

By Chris from Eugene, Oregon
Music Background: Guitarist since 1979

I put 3 of these in a MIM strat. I didn't bother to put a reverse wound in the middle, Leo Fender didn't!
These have a great tone, crystal clear and nice and snappy without being brittle. Would recommend these to anyone wanting the traditional strat sound.
Kudos to Dave Brow at Sweetwater!

Strat tone for days

By Jesus A.

Got this single coil in hopes of capturing that strat single coil chimney tone for a mod build and did it just the trick!

Balanced and Clear

By Geoff from Virginia

I was rocking a set of Fender Custom Shop '54s in my Highway One Strat for over a decade. After upgrading my amp, I started to dislike the ice-picky sound I was getting, as well as the unbalanced response from the different strings. The G-string was overpowering everything else, due to the tall magnet underneath it. That's because the Fender '54s use the old staggered magnet configuration. It turns out, the vintage staggered magnets were designed for the combination of a 7" neck radius and a wound B string. If that's your jam, then the SD Vintage Staggered or the Fender '54s might be good for you. If you play on a more modern neck with a 9.5 or larger radius, and also use a lighter set of strings with a plain B, then the flat magnet configuration is probably more ideal.

I use these pickups in the neck and middle position. They make a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity one for the middle position, if you want absolute silence in the 2 and 4 positions.

I love these these pickups. They are not ice-picky like the Fender 54s, and deliver a much more balanced response. Gone are the days when I avoided strumming the G-string because it overpowered everything else. They have a great combination of brightness, and what I can only call "smoothness." They sound like someone put my '54s in a bottle, left them in the cellar for 50 years, and uncorked them yesterday. Like a well-aged wine, they sound more mature and refined. They are not quite as "quacky" as other vintage-repro pickups may be, and they take some dirt surprisingly well. They respond nicely to my MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion, as well as a Tube Screamer (built into my TSA30 Amp).

These are true single coils, so they come with the noise of single coils. If you want noiseless, look somewhere else. I considered a set of vintage noiseless, but none of the sound checks I heard quite compared to the clear, bright sound of true single coils.

I highly recommend these for someone who wants to upgrade from stock pickups, or needs to change from staggered single coils.
