One of my favorite mix buss tools

By Ted from Kalamazoo Michigan on October 8, 2021 Music Background: Musician. Recording engineer.

I have the vari mu with the t bar mod. For my most recent project, I used the vari mu on drum overheads while tracking. Then moved it to my stereo buss on mix down. The results were fantastic. I noticed during mixing it was easy to get the cymbals and high hats to sit perfectly in the mix. The whole mix had a cohesiveness that I hadn't experienced. I drive the inputs pretty hard but only 1/2 to 1 db of overall reduction (some peaks a bit more). Adjusted the attack and release to move with the music and the meters were like dance partners for that. I also have a massive passive on the mix buss, which compliments the vari mu nicely. Feel free to give a listen. Lucy Lowis covered two Elliot Smith songs that will be included on the 30th anniversary compilation for Kill Rock Stars label. Say Yes and No Name #1 are the tracks. We were very pleased with the results. Highly recommend.
