Believe the reviews

By Earl H. from Ashtabula, OH, OH

Really is everything the other reviews say.
Perfect practice amp and the weight makes me want to go out giging again.
Can't really find a flaw in it honestly.

This little bulldog has a lot of muscle for just a few pounds super easy to use, the tones are marvelous and the fun factor is over the top..! However, you MUST get the 4 button footswitch....trust me on this ...you're gonna love it !

Good little amp

By Craig K. from Indiana
Music Background: Drums .But love playing the guitar.

Very nice little amp. I was looking for a light weight amp for practice. This was just the ticket. If you need to play loud no problem. And using the head phone jack is just what I was looking for. Practicing without bothering any one this feature is great. The different presets are great. Give it a try I think you will love it.

Wow. Just wow

By Aaron from pampa, TX
Music Background: Ex front man

I never expected this amp, which I got to goof off on, to be this amazing.

First off, I used to lug around a 50 pound crate amp for practice and had a 4x line 6 cab & head for gigs. So going from that to this, which MAYBE weighs 5 pounds is bonkers. I would never expect something so small to sound so powerful. To have as many options as it does. To be able to plug into my laptop with an aux chord and have pretty high fidelity recording capabiities.

Seriously, I could go on all day about this. but just buy it. if you enjoy playing multiple music styles, just buy it.

cons - the lights on the top are annoying when you're looking down at it. otherwise it's perfect

Mixed in well at the Jam session

By Dale D. from Marshfield, WI
Music Background: Old school player

Despite not having any place to store the power supply and now way to protect the amp from road rash. It dose not fit well of most amp stands with out assistance. All that out of the way, this amp is loud and proud when in the mix with others instruments at times I could not figure where the sound was coming from since the coverage was good. Rythum and lead tones on my asian tele were well represented on clean and when the modling was changed for a little dirt it wailed. I looked and power setting was on 25 watts still a 25 to go if needed, never did. If lost or stolen I would buy another. Recommended to any player not into metal, since it is only a session amp and no where to plug into a speaker cabinet. Minus the star for lack of storage for the power supply, no cabinet out or line out other than the aux phone jack. & lack of a dust cover.

grab and go amp.

By Old c. from Tucson
Music Background: Pro musician

I'll start by saying I really hate it when a product has a huge wall wort, or like this thing an adapter pack on the cord. It makes me feel like they are hoping it breaks or gets lost so I have to buy another. Put the darn thing in the amp and give me a standard iec. Please and Thank you. Had I done better research this would have been a deal breaker for me. As it is, i glued the pack to the side of the amp so it's less irritating, but only marginally. My grab and go amp has its guts out all over the place with no place to put the cord, and it aggravates the crap outa me. Now...maybe it's just me, so Ill move on.

It's light...really light...freaked me out for a sec light. It's simple to use in a day and age when people seem to want every amp in one amp. So the non existent learning curve was nice. I was glad to be able to dial in a sound or two and get to playing. For these two points, Vox and I can be friends again, but they aren't forgiven for the cord fiasco.

The sound isn't bad either, it's actually tighter than I expected. There isn't much room between a little low end and muddy but the highs are clear and crystalline. It would play real nice with a tele thats for sure. Never quite gets where I want it to go on its own, but if I tap into the studio or a pa with it, it's a small lightweight wonder and since I have both handy, not a problem. To be clear, I play mostly archtops, Im looking for a touch of grit with a lot of bottom. So im asking a lot of any practice amp. If it didn't meet the mark for me, I consider that my fault. For most players, this amp will get a surprising amount of work done.

Great Little Amp!

By Ciro
Music Background: just play

This amp sounds/fells great. Vox design can be strange, hard to understand, ugly, but in this case the "learning curve" of knobs is 1 minute.
Personally, i enjoying the fender's models more than the vox ac30 simulations. Yes, it's strange, but... i also liked the marshall jcm800 (more gain) and soldano (even more gain), and the line option (you can use this amp as an "general speaker"). Doesn't has looper or some p10 linenout, there's only the imput jack, so keep this in mind if you want to integrate setups! And keep in mind: this is a LITTLE amp. The speakers are 8". You can not expect the same sound projection from this little box comparing with a 12" one... its unfair. But loud enough for me. You can get tons of good tones at very low and very high volumes + p2 for phones and p2 for aux in and play along. Has some USB options, the most useful is the audio interface for directi digital recording on computers.
Oh yes, this amp is very lightweight (4kgs, made of plastic, not wood), small, easy to transport, you can put on the floor, put on the desk... Affordable and great all-around electric guitar amplifier!

Monster Amp!!!

By Randall from Brenham, TX

I bought this amp because I am a huge fan of Vox and I was looking for a smaller practice amp. The price, 50 watt power and multiple features were very attractive.
First thing I noticed when it arrived was how light it is. I don't think it weighs as much as a gallon of milk. In fact its so light I figured it would sound awful and have no power at all.
I was wrong. THIS AMP IS A BEAST. It is super powerful. Played nowhere near full volume or power level (the amp has a power level knob that controls the wattage) this little amp cut right through drums in my practice room.
To be honest it only has 3-4 really sweet tone options. Most of the amp models really sound the same, but it will dial in really sparkly clean tone to blues grit and sweet classic rock overdrive.
All in all I am 100% completely satisfied with this amp. Great buy!!!

Super Light. Very Loud.

By David R. from STOUGHTON, MA

The best thing about this amp is it's lightness. Less than 10 lbs. Lighter than many guitars. After a lot of trial, error and tweaking I am able to get a really good sound. And very dynamic.
I've used it in several small club venues and the is more than adequate. I suspect it would be just fine in larger venues. As it is I generally have power level/ Attenuator knob well below half way. It is and will be my go to amp for most situations.
The the not so good.
First of all, it is very, very bright in every amp model. I typically have the treble backed off about 80%. The models themselves don't sound very much like the amps they're modelling. In order to get a good overdriven 60s fender sound I am using the "Brit 1959' (Marshall Combo) model. Oddly, the worst models are the two Vox models.
There are basically three gain stages, Drive, Volume and Power Level. They work nicely together.
You can use two effects at a time - four modulations and four delay/reverb. The are all very good effects. I particularly like the Tape Echo, although I would like to add some reverb at the same time.
One of the reasons I bought this amp was that you can download Vox Tone Room software. I assumed the software would allow for more deep editing. Unfortunately, it only gives you an exact copy of the controls you have on the amp itself.
Finally, It's cheap. At $... it's less than many competing amps.

Disappointing

By AF from NE
Music Background: Semi-pro

I ordered this on a whim. I liked the form factor and was hoping it would be a small, light practice/small gig amp. Overall it's very disappointing because of the way the amp is voiced. Without access to the mids (except by computer - and even then you can't edit the presets) and with an overall voice that is far too bright, I found the amp either harsh or dull, depending on where the treble was set. Even darker presets like the Boutique Clean & OD had spikey highs if played at any volume. The AC30s were worse, and the higher gain voices were fizzy and lacked any kind of true feel or oomph.

Which is a shame because the molded cabinet handled volume well and the speaker never got flabby. At very quiet, conversation-level volume, the amp is OK on clean settings - but even then, hit your guitar hard and the harsh treble spikiness is revealed. I had to run the treble at 1 or 2 to keep that at bay, but then the amp sounded dull.

I have an MV50 Clean head which I really like, so it's not a NuTube thing. Quilter has proven that 8" speakers can handle high power and sound great, so it's not the size of the speaker. I primarily use single coil guitars - which can be bright, but I don't have the spikiness issue with any of my other amps.

To test my ear I compared the VX50 to my Kustom Contender, an 18 watt hybrid (12ax7 preamp) with an 8" speaker - this is a small, great sounding amp (a sleeper that is highly underrated). The Kustom sounds warm and organic and inspiring even with no effects on board, and really puts the VX50 to shame. Both amps are hampered by the lack of a mid control, but with the Kustom the amp is voiced properly to still sound excellent. Incidentally, I've played the Kustom at jams with live drummers and it has more than enough volume. The Vox has volume, but when played at 3/4 volume the tonal flaws of the amp are just emphasized.

The effects on the VX50 are OK, but they're irrelevant if the base tone isn't there. What's so disappointing about this amp is that I feel like they have something with potential here, they just need to re-voice the preamp to a much warmer/darker overall tone (adding Mid and Presence knobs would help tremendously, too).

I had no problems running the Tone Room software on my laptop. The amp looks pretty good and feels very solid - I don't really like the metal "NuTube" badge in the corner.

The 15 watter might be a decent practice amp, I don't know. I've liked some of Vox's modeling amps in the past - this one is a missed opportunity in my opinion. At this price, this amp should deliver so much more, tone-wise. I don't know how this even got out the door.
