Not bad

By Chris M. from Dunlap TN

It's good at being an easy preamp with usable reverb and compression for an improvement over plugging straight in to the mixer if your mixer doesn't have these built in. For example, if you have a small PA and you're doing a little acoustic gig or something. I'm no sure if the pitch correction works. I've never tried using it seriously. Maybe it works better if you plug in a guitar so it can follow the chords. I leave it off. It is pretty good at a basic vocal treatment of fattening up the vocal with a bit of compression and eq and a little reverb or delay. It is important to set the level correctly. It doesn't work right if the level is too low.

Battery power is not working.

By Jacob B. from Camas, WA

I bought this pedal to use occasionally in a small bar setting. It mostly sits in a closet at room temp. Unfortunately, didn't notice the issue for several months. It is no longer working under battery power. I tried to update the firmware and the computer is not recognizing device. Tried with 2 computers and 2 usb cables. On the plus side, it still works with power supply and I haven't noticed noise issues that others have mentioned.

TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic 2

By Rich C. from High Country NC
Music Background: Guitar, Bass and Recording

I am very happy with the Mic Mechanic 2
If you are looking for basic vocal effects at a good price, this is it!
I previously owned the 1st generation Mic Mechanic.
The echo and reverb were on the same control.
When you would turn up the reverb, the echo would also increase,
making the effects unusable.
Glad they straightened that out!
I'm still kind of on the fence about TC Helicon products.
I had one of their power supplies go bad.
and I owned Their Voicelive Play, which also died on me!
Thats why I deducted a half star, but I'm totally satisfied with the Mechanic 2!
So, fingers crossed.
I want to thank Keith Klikas, for all of his help with my recent purchases!

Just ok

By Wiley M. from Milford, NJ

The delay and reverb sound great and is easy to get the effect you want. But the vocal correction is horrible and does nothing but add noise... not musical at all.

Ok pedal for home use, but inconsistent in live use.

By Sweetwater Customer

I was excited to play with this vocal effects pedal for the Reverb and Echo fx. However, the auto gain feature has caused me headaches when trying to keep a consistent sound level. With no way to set gain manually or disable this feature, its performance did not work for my application. The product is probably great for an at-home enthusiast, but for live performances, I found the vocal attacks to climb in volume erractically and then dial back down between verses and chorus during singing.

Works but can be noisey

By Glenn from Madison, WI
Music Background: Experienced Amateur, Not great with electronics!

Pretty good effects and easy enough to figure out. Only significant criticism is that it picks up a lot of electrical interference if not isolated from guitar/mic/power cords. It also has a tiny and poorly placed on/off switch that has to be operated manually.

Not great for dynamic FEMALE singers

By Olivia from NJ

I have two of these pedals. One was sent to me as a replacement because I thought the first one had a glitch. I am a very dynamic singer, going from soft to loud in almost all my songs (think Amy Lee.) This pedal auto-adjusts the volume of my voice, but you can hear it bluntly adjusting over the PAs and especially in my EIMs. It's very distracting and it sounds artificial. We have tried different mics, different cables, different EQ settings, but it still alters my volume. This pedal even does the volume switching in bypass mode. The firmware update didn't fix it either.

We had our AV buddy take a look at it. He had my boyfriend try both of these pedals, and while the pedal still did this volume adjustment very mildly with him, it really wasn't as noticeable as it is with my singing. Our buddy ultimately thinks it's likely that this pedal was just not tested very much with too many dynamic female vocalists when it was in the testing phase.

Waste of money

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Life time musician. 50 years!!!

I have to admit it TC helicon really got me when they got my money for this piece of junk. I have no idea why they took the gain knob off of it. Because there was no gain knob there was a lot of feedback when you use it in a live setting. The delay in the reverb in the pitch control and the compression are pretty good, but because you can't hear yourself, you have to turn up the volume of the PA and that's when feedback occurs because there is no gain knob on this pedal therefore it is useless. Extra Effect For Live Vocals

By Kostas G. from Loudonville, NY
Music Background: Singer, songwriter, guitarist for Blackcat Elliot. Solo acoustic / vocalist for Gus Unplugged. Been playing for over 30 years.

I purchased this pedal after trying a friend's. It definitely adds some flavor to my vocals at acoustic live performances. I don't really use the pitch correction at all but I do use the echo and reverb. Of course, you'll have to play around with it to find what you like or are comfortable with. I have a BOSE L1 Pro 8 and use it for live acoustic gigs. The reverb on the Bose is great but this pedal just adds a little more flavor to my vocals. The tone on this pedal is good too! If you're looking for an extra taste with your live vocal presence, this pedal does the job. As always, Matt Brooks at Sweetwater was a great help with helping me decide!

mic mechanic refinement

By Rudi L. from Oceanside, CA

This past summer I started busking at the pier in my SoCal beach town. Started with a Bose S1 Pro+ amp, an SM57 mic with stand and my Teton acoustic guitar. The Bose S1 has clear, crisp fidelity, but simply lacks the power to cleanly handle both vocals and guitar. So my next purchase was a JBL eon one compact amp, which I dedicated to vocals, leaving the guitar for the Bose. Vast improvement in clarity and projection. Once the basic rig was in place, I turned to improving the vocal. I wanted some compression and reverb and some EQ control, and I really don't like using the JBL app through BT for effects and what not. I like knobs and buttons and that's what I got with the TC helicon Mic mechanic. I control echo and reverb with two top knobs, and the "tone" button (allegedly) activates a dynamic blend of compression, gating, de-ess, and EQ as needed. I see no reason to ever turn this off. TC calls this process "adaptive tone". I don't really care what they call it; the thing flat-out works.
I set a little bit of hall reverb, a little slap back echo, activated the tone button, and I was off and running. It truly has been a one stop/one box solution for my lackluster vocals. I'm pretty harsh on my own performance and work quality and the way this little box makes my mediocre voice sound good in my mix is truly stunning. I read a review of this piece of gear before buying and I remember the guy saying "just buy this thing… You won't regret it". I second that sentiment. It is amazing what engineers can get under the hood of a single pedal these days.
Last thing I want to mention. I've been powering this Mike mechanic with a USB-to-pedal pedal cable from the USB charger port on the JBL to the barrel 9V input on the pedal. It works great, but be warned: you can buy cables that look the same from Amazon… four for $10. Well they look the same and will indeed plug into both ends, they are not the same. The cheap cables suck. Two of them didn't work at all and the one that did was incredibly noisy. Useless. Bend over, pay the 20, and enjoy your stuff. My bad for trying to be a cheapskate. My man Richard Whittington knew I would need the good cable. Thank you Richard and Sweetwater. 4 1/2 stars is my highest compliment. Gotta leave room for the future unknowns. Rock on, you badasses.

adds oomph

By alan m. from Portlandia
Music Background: gigging but not relying on it to eat but beyond hobbyist

Have gigged with it yet as just got it but practice it adds the of oomph without overpowering the talent. Just enough selection that you don't overwhelm selection which to use. I add just a itsy bitsy amount of reverb and as little delay to add Haas effect to thicken. For $ it's a bargain there are many out there with a zillion parameters but anymore just let me turn a few knobs and dial in. The only drawback which probably just affects me is that I can't get close enough to not hear the delay but it gets close enough to sound good

Helicon mic mechanic 2

By Don G.
Music Background: 70 years of playing sax.

I bought it because mainly for the tape echo and it had XLR input and output and it could be battery operated. Those were great. However, I was disappointed with the sound quality and its controls. I bought this pedal to avoid having to mess with the controls on my JBL EON 2. But its Helicon reverb sounds much better than this pedal. I'll have to either mess with its controls or find another pedal.

Makes live vocals a snap

By Bob M. from NY
Music Background: Semi-pro for over 35 years. Recording geek. bobmaulucci.com.

I bought the Mic Mechanic 2 just ahead of a string of summer gigs: some solo acoustic and some in a classic rock band setting. I made a small pedal board up with this, my pager turner pedal, and a tuner. I powered the whole thing with a rechargeable supply so it's completely cordless. The page turner and Mic Mechanic also use batteries, so I put 4 AA in the Mic Mechanic just in case. The On/Off switch is a nice touch. I turn it off between sets to save the batteries.
The Mic Mechanic gives me great sounding vocals into the EV Evolve 30 speaker I use for the solo gig. Most of the time, I use a touch of the tape delay, the room reverb, and the correction less than 50%. With the tone button engaged to de-ess and compress, I get a sound that really requires little on the EQ side in the PA. I dial in the echo and reverb baed on the setting. It has helped me feel way more comfortable performing.
With the rock band set up, it is apparent that my vocals sit in the mix much better than the other guys in the quartet. Paired with a Sennheiser 835, the Mic Mechanic gives me a much better core sound than the 58s straight into their board, and because I can tweak my effects right at my feet, I can get tap tempo delays and such that change over the three hour set that is very dynamic.
It is really a subtle pedal, but the culmination of those little tweaks to the voice are noticeable over the long haul. You can achieve these things in other ways, but the pedal format here makes it a no brainer for a local musician who has to do his or her own sound most every time.

Just the ticket

By Sweetwater Customer from Alberta

First off, let me preface this with the fact I literally got this now-hard-to-find pedal in less than 22 hours from the moment I ordered it. It shipped from Indiana to my front doorstep in Alberta, Canada not even 3 hours after a Sweetwaer rep called to ask me how my day was going. WHAT SORCERY IS THIS? Wow. Hats off to Sweetwater and their teleportation shipping practices.

Onto my review of the pedal: it's just the ticket. I was after a vocal pedal that can give me the 'essentials' of live performances without costing a fortune. This pedal delivered PLUS gives you the tone magic (de-essing, compression, etc) AS WELL AS pitch correction. The latter of which is so smooth and natural that it's near undetectable even when layered thick. I'm no Freddie Mercury, so take my enthusiasm with a grain of salt, but this little unit took my sound from a "Meh. Pretty okay." To a firm, "Yeah. Pretty flippin' solid, son!"

Hats off to both TC Helicon and Sweetwater! You guys rock!

TC-Helicon Rocks

By Barrie D. from McMinnville, OR
Music Background: Singer/songwriter and working musician

I bought the Mic Mechanic for a specific purpose. I do a solo singer/songwriter act with a Ditto looper to record acoustic and/or electric guitar. Then I play flute licks but the flute was a little too dry even with the regular reverb on the voice. Using the Mic Mechanic, (On a small pedalboard) I now can kick on more reverb along with echo and the flute sounds huge. I love it. But the bonus is the TONE button. OMG, it makes such a big difference on the vocal sound. It just sweetens it up and makes it nice and juicy, (studio quality). I also have a TC-Helicon Harmony GXT on a separate pedalboard and it also has the TONE button. When I don't bring both pedal boards the Mic Mechanic goes with me and does the job just fine. This pedal is worth the price just for the TONE feature.
Thanks TC.

Bought one, Exchanged it. Exchanged that one....

By John F. from Los Angeles

I have actually tried te Mic Mechanic several times. I wanted a way to feed "slap back" (vocal doubling) into the PA board. Alas, these are just junk. They have more snap, crackle & pop than a bowl of Rice Krispies. I also tried TWO of the Helicon Vocal Duplicator (the green one) with the same problem. I don't know what is happening with TC Helicon by I will be avoiding them in the future. Their quality control appears non-existent.

Not as Good as the First Gen, but Still Awesome

By Justin

Great unit. I relied on my Gen 1 for years until it finally stopped staying active (disengages the processor sporadically during gigs so I replaced it). This version is still awesome but lacks some of the flexibility of the first generation Mic Mechanic. Dollar for dollar, the best vocal-specific processor I've used in a live application.

Awful electric whine through P.A.

By Sweetwater Customer from Louisiana

I looked online and there were so many complaints about the whine but no help to eliminate it.
I thought it might be from the DC power cord so I tried batteries. Nope still that God awful high pitch whine!
The only way to eliminate it is to turn off the unit.
Buy something else, because what I have found out online, I have to assume these reviews are bogus and this product is a waste of money.

By Cal O. from Grand Rapids, MI
Music Background: Solo low whistles, windcontroller, and other toys...

Used this for the first time last night - solo gig on low whistles with a drone pad underneath. The warmth of the reverb and the sweetness of the delay was such a great enhancement to the stark solo sound of the whistles. And the tone circuit - wow. Lovely. So easy to use, and such a great way to get nice ambience in any situation!

Sounds pretty good

By Clark from Clayton NC
Music Background: Experienced

I like this pedal. I've used TC products before for vocals and was able to get my vocals sounding just the way I wanted them to sound. Way easier to dial in than using plugins and it works great live. Ordered 2 of them to use for a small church setting where we use a PA that doesn't have built in effects, compression, and multiple eq frequencies that can be adjusted. For the price you won't be disappointed.

Awesome

Music Background: Bass player and vocalist

I played with it for a few hours before trying it live. At first I thought it was too bright. But a quick change to set less bright and I was very happy with the result. Listening back to the gig from an unforgiving board mix, I was impressed. The effects are high quality, and the tone makes the vocal stand out. I like how the foot switch disables effects and my announcements where clear and understandable, and great tone! Highly recommend!

Great sounds noisy signal

By Josh F. from Fort Wayne
Music Background: singer/songwriter

I always run an electrovoice re20 through a mogami cable into an apollo twin and is very clean signal...I added this to the signal chain and another mogami cable and the MM2 added a significant amount of noise. switched out cables to see if that was the problem and unfortunately it was the mic mechanic 2 itself...I had to return because you can't use this for studio applications, perhaps, you could get away with it in a live setting, but it's too much noise for recording. I returned it.

GARBAGE

By Brian R. from Girard, PA
Music Background: Original/Cover Musician

DO NOT BUY ONE.

Not sure if my experience is unique to me, but it never worked right.

There was some type pf power issue with the pedal from the 1st time I tried it.

I had left it on my pedal board for some time before I tried it again. I tried to use a battery
and it behaved exactly the same.

I tried it again with board power: same result.

Of course it is out of warranty which is my fault, I should have sent it back as soon as I discovered
the problem.

Quite disappointed. I have other TC pedals that have been on my board for over 10 years with no issues.

POWER!

By Chris from Ohio

Everyone seems to have the basics covered here, but not much talk of the power. Sure they don't give you the power adapter like many. I think that trend is large in part because many people have a power brick of some sort and it's not needed.

But in this case, this pedal requires 670mA to operate! That's a LOT! There are only a few power supply bricks that will even cover this amount of juice, and they are top of the line expensive.

Most likely you will have to use (BUY) a wall wart with this, which I think is a problem. With such a heavy requirement, and the fact that you're most likely not using a brick, they need to provide the adapter.

Having a nice neat and tidy power setup is very difficult with this pedal.

Not What I Had Hoped For

By Steve Z. from Pepperell, MA

If you're looking at the Mic Mechanic 2 for pitch correction, and you only need minor correction, then this might work fine for you. But if you need more than minor correction, this sounds awful. Very processed and unnatural sounding. I bought it to use for recording. I thought/hoped it might replace a bit of Melodyne work. I was wrong. So far Melodyne is the cleanest, most natural pitch correction I have found.

Does a nice job giving clarity with the tone button. Like that delay speed can be adjusted and not change when accidentally hitting a knob.

Non stop humming

By Disappointed from Dayton, OH

Bought one of these for my wife (a singer) as a Christmas present. Plugged it in and noticed a loud hum that can't be removed. Wrong choice for me

By Mike B. from Joplin, MO
Music Background: Studio Owner

First of all I love Sweetwater the best company ever! I bought this to add verb to vocals when I'm doing live performance on my Rodecaster Pro. Rode really needs to to put reverb back in the unit. I don't need correction and wouldn't use delay on what I'm doing. So I bought this 99% for reverb. My complaint is I just don't love the choice of effect. Owning a studio and having about every plugin available I'm used to a lot of choices. I could have lived with just one reverb but I don't really like it. If you like lush vocal reverb this isn't it. This my only non 5 star review I've ever done. Maybe I can edit the verb? I'm not sure but out of the box I tried it for 15 min and put it back in the box.

Just the little help to make a big difference

By Ian from Athens, GA
Music Background: 15 years in church music, modern and traditional

I've been using these pedals for over two years now in church settings. I use it almost exclusively for pitch correction. It's reverb is quite pleasant and the auto compression/eq sounds good as well. I've only had a little trouble with the auto gating which would sometimes drop off if you were a few inches too far from the mic. I solved that by putting a cloud lifter before the unit but these days I just turn that part off and do that sort of processing on the mixer. It also eats batteries so a power supply is suggested. Otherwise, it is ultra reliable and the pitch correction is really subtle but makes a big difference. Especially in livestreams were people don't have the room to modulate the inconsistency in pitch to be negligible.
It won't make you a good singer, but if you're half decent it'll make a noticeable difference.
I do recommend it and don't like singing without it.
Hope this helps!

Music Background: professional muscian, singer, song writter, recording engineer.

it really enhances ones vocal! One of my band mates started using one and he has a muffled sounding singing voice and it really brought out clarity to his voice. So i thought what heck Ill give it a try. My wife said it really brought fidelity to my voice. That's wife talk that for the sound and tonal quality of vocal sounds a lot better.
(excluding the mistakes LOL!) I haven't used the vocal corrector but my buddy uses it on a couple songs.

not for singers

By Susan T. from NY
Music Background: full-time professional vocalist

I think this unit might be ok for a guitar player who sings a few tunes on a gig. I bought it to help with reverb on gigs where the sound system is dry. It has almost no choices and the knobs are not sensitive. You go from zero to blasting with nothing in between. I can't recommend this at all, however Sweetwater does have good customer service.

By Douglas E. from Cleveland, OH
Music Background: Chuck Mosley, Indoria, The Firmary, Blöd

So,

I just picked this up recently, so I haven't had a chance to dig in, but right off the bat I can tell it's a versatile and handy addition to my arsenal. Can be used alone in a pinch for a little reverb/echo, or added to a pedalboard for a bit more control. I look forward to returning to the stage with this at my feet.

Show ruiner

By Don
Music Background: Audio Tech

"the natural sounding pitch correction" is an ugly jittery mess. Especially when used anywhere near a loud monitor or drummer. I'd rather hear almost any singer a little out of tune than pitch corrected by that thing. Every time I see this on a pedal board, I cringe.

The delay is fine.

Basically used in the studio but I like the fact that I control the effects and sound of the vocals. I can set it where I like it. Also the on/off switch that I control is a plus. The big plus is the video that shows you how it works and the various ways to use the product. Excellent little pedal.

MIC MECHANIC - BUY ONE!

By SLY from Deep South
Music Background: Vocalist/Lead Singer

Great little microphone processor for the money. It is quick and easy to set up. Easy to adjust for the different songs and types of music you will sing to. After you sing through it a couple of times you will settle on a general setting for your voice and really won't do anything but step on the on/off button. Makes practice a whole lot easier by not having to get out the big PA. Buy one you will enjoy having it.

Don't buy it.

By Sweetwater Customer from Los Angeles

Bought for use in band and solo. First one developed really nasty speaker pop and crackle after about two months, about 16 hours use. Do you see in these reviews that this is a frequent complaint? I bought another, and it CAME with the speaker crackle and pop. Again, you see this A LOT in the reviews. Why is TC Helicon still making it with this problem????????????
AND, why no volume control on it????? Was TC Helicon just trying to save money? Well, that would also explain the crackle and pop. In my eyes, this product did major damage to TC Helicon's reputation (which was only marginal with me to start...).

Simple Live Vocal Setup

By James K. from Wesley Chapel, FL

Reduces vocal setup significantly. Has all the basics in one box and sounds excellent. Great that you can tap it off and on for speech. Even the autotune when used sparingly sounds great. I wish I could adjust compression though. It's just an on/off switch. Have used for a couple live gigs, one outdoors, and several rehearsals and it has always functioned as it should. Reliable piece of gear for me.

Just tried it for the first time yesterday. Just put batteries in and it worked intelligently and sounded very good for the money.

Could have been better

By Sweetwater Customer

The echo and reverb effects are fine, but not as good as I was expecting. Most disappointing is that there is no AC Adapter included. For $... I would expect this to be included. The product description was very vague in this area. You have to dig deep into the technical specs to find this out.

Great pedal

By Chris L. from Jamestown RI
Music Background: Audio Engineer 12 years. Bass player.

Great pedal. Only thing that would improve is to have a wet and a dry output so you can track with it and record both the dry track and wet track. Then you can use wet track for headphone mix to avoid any latency or as parallel processing track. I hope pedal manufacturers start upgrading pedals to be used as outboard recording gear.

Mic Mechanic 2 not recommended

By Sweetwater Customer

Sweetwater has always provided us with very good service and i highly recommend them. I cannot say the same about the mic mechanic 2. Not recommended. I chose to keep it and im good with that.

None of the fluff I don't want.

By Craig from SC
Music Background: Semi-pro

I am not a great singer. I don't have a voice that "cuts". I don't need or want harmonizing - I just want to sound a bit better. This pedal does all of that. It doesn't take up much space, it's simple to use, and it DOES have phantom power (you don't even have to turn it on). It's sort of like having a real good board, regardless of what you are plugging into. ...and it's cheap (but very well built).

Magnificent but Unreliable

By Marc M. from PA

Does a fantastic job of creating studio quality vocal effects in an easy to use stompbox. But be prepared to replace it, often. I've gone through 2 in the past 18 months, they just burn out and won't turn on. It's a shame because they could have charged twice as much and I still would have paid for it, but only if I knew it would last more than a year. And I don't even move it, it stays in the same place connected to the same power supply and PA. I've tried batteries, different power supplies, It just stops working, both have. I will not buy a 3rd Mic Mechanic, nor another TC pedal ever again.

Easy, compact, works.

By Phil C. from N. California
Music Background: Semi Pro

I use a lot of TC Helicon gear. My own unit is VL3X. Now my wife is joining me in singing, which is wonderful but, how can I say this...she is NOT a great singer. Definitely needed some help to go along with my encouragement. I made her a little pedalboard with the Mic Mechanic before an H1 harmony unit used with a TC Helicon MP-75 mic. It works! With the pitch correction she is able to let her voice loose a bit more with less fear of "clangers". The automatic "Tone" feature adds polish. Just a hint of 1 below harmony from the H1 adds depth. We are on our way!

Okay, but bare bones....

By John F. from Los Angeles
Music Background: Solo and band performance, playing decades

This unit produces okay sound for the vocal. I like how simple it is. I bought for the "slapback". However, there are two important features missing that most other units can accommodate:
First, there is no volume control. WHY for heaven's sake would they not put a volume control on it??? This means that to adjust volume, you have to go the the PA, mixing board, or amp. I play in a band and I need an easy to reach volume control.
Second, one of the other reviews was correct in wondering why Hellicon did not put on a phantom power for condenser mics. However, this is a choice, and you can always go to an upscale unit if you use phantom power.
However, no volume control? Really?

Don’t buy this if you know what gain staging is (and you should)

By Connor from Pennsylvania
Music Background: Live musician and producer

The auto gain feature makes this pedal unusable in a live setting. The pitch correction and actual effects are great, but do yourself a favor and find a used model from the 1st generation.

TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2

By Donald M. from Palm Coast, FL
Music Background: Writer/Hammond Organ/Guitar

Works exactly as described...takes about a minute to figure out the options and boom, you're in business...sounds really good, run the correction at 10 to 12 o'clock and no one could tell the difference one way or the other...myself, I was discretely running this for several days at rehearsal...no one had a clue except I sounded like I was 31 instead of 71 and I'm not kidding..I've been playing for over 5 decades and laugh if you will but I'm still writing and performing with my originals group..yep, you head that right..originals group...everybody plays like they're kids, not kidding...and now I sound like one again..it's ok to use this at my age...just not a 28 or ????...you can't sing if you're buying this when you're young...works great for us older folks..buy one people...you will be stoked...

Good investment

By Sweetwater Customer

I have not had this al that long yet but so far, I am really impressed. Now I am a drummer and I use this device to enhance my singing. I do sing a little lead and some back up and it helps tremendously. I could even feel a difference in my singing and the band said they noticed a change as well. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to sing and have a little control on voice characteristics.

Shouldn't be singing without it!

By Deven from ND

Does exactly what it promises and is built like a tank. Absolutely love gigging with this and have no intention to ever go without one.

Just make sure to practice without it often!

A very simple device that does what it says that it will do. Very easy to use and versatile for a variety of applications. I use mine in my small home studio - on voice over work - blog talk radio shows and home music recording. Love it ! Shout out (again) to Tyler Davis ! Thanks for all of your help and great customer support ! Always a pleasure !

Phantom Power

By Rick from Denver, CO
Music Background: Week End Warrior

OK, For not having to pack a mixing board around, the effects deliver as advertised, BUT after one power misstep with the predecessor, how could TC Helicon not manage putting an option for remote phantom power TO this unit? Battery life is not great, and yes DC power is an option, but where else is an XLR output going to go but a house board or a snake with reliable juice? It failed me mid-gig first time out. The result is a degree of buyers remorse.

Plain, simple, does what I need very well

By Jackie M. from Needville, TX

Sooooo wish I would have found this before I wasted way too much time and money on a VL3. Don't know how I missed this one. Does exactly what I need it to do, very simply, without having to go into layers upon layers of menus, etc. Besides, I really don't need to sound like Popeye, or anyone else for that matter, when I sing. LOL Basically WYSIWYG with the knobs. Couldn't be simpler. Thank you, TC Helicon and Sweetwater.

TC Helicon Mic Mechanic

By Timothy S. from Nebraska
Music Background: PhD in Music; Professor / Performer

This device enables the user to "tune" a space using a microphone or electrified instrument and PA system in order to dial in the type of presence you want for the sound you want to produce. Have used it with a mic and guitar through a PA and a guitar amp with great success in live performances. I recommend this product.

mic mechanic 2

By Michael from Georgia
Music Background: Karaoke host, percussionist.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how well my singers loved it. I am a Karaoke host and i wanted to enhance the vocals for my singers. So i enlisted the knowledgeable help of Tyler Davis at sweetwater. Together we came up with the best option for what i was trying to accomplish, and man did my singers love it. I received a number of compliments on how well they sounded on my system. I even had one of my competitors who has been trying to get my spot, sing on the system. He would really have to step up his game though to get my Friday Nights. LOL. It's so easy to use the Mic Mechanic but it adds so much to vocals it's unbelievable. I would recommend this anyone how is wanting to enhance their vocals without adding harmony or having to plug in a guitar or midi.Well worth the money.

So far so good

By Sweetwater Customer

Very happy with what this does in and of itself. Simple to use. Sounds great. Does exactly what it says with solid build quality. Gives someone like me (noob @ singing in a band) some confidence, and a little more control over shaping my sound. Inspires me to sing and play more. Thanks Ryan for the service and communication.

Why not 5 stars? This and the Doubler seem to be 75% the same pedal in the same (somewhat large) casing. If I want the combined effects of the Mic Mechanic and Doubler, I either go with a bigger and much more complex TC unit, which for me is overkill; or I daisy chain the two big Doubler and Mic Mechanic pedals—which makes Reverb, Correction, and Tone totally redundant in one of them. Why would I pay for those features twice? From a floorspace/pedalboard economy/value angle, I really wish they'd combine the two pedals in one unit of this amazingly easy to use style. Or, make them much more distinct and complimentary. That said, my next thing is tweaking around in the software so maybe I can do it that way. Will see!

Love it, easy to use, not too many frills doc that it gets complicated. The on off switch is awesome, and the tone button is a very handy element, makes EQing so much easier.

This unit does what it says. Check out the demo videos. It lives up to all of the claims. The "Tone" button is great, the reverb and echo work as required and the pitch correction is like a secret weapon!

Eats batteries

By Dave T. from Seattle, WA
Music Background: 50+ years performer and recordist

Be aware that the power requirements for this box are higher than most stompbox effects, over 6 W (670 ma). Four AA cells will barely make it through a gig, so better buy them in bulk and keep them in your cord bag.

Of course, you'll probably want to eliminate that headache and acquire a wall-wart. But don't just grab a spare one from your junk drawer; you'll need a hefty power supply, one rated at 800 ma or more. Anything less may not work at all, or worse, cause distortion in your audio. Don't daisy-chain off an existing power supply unless it's a high-end unit that costs twice as much as the Mic Mechanic itself.

Another consideration is that this unit is especially prone to picking up noise from switching power supplies (meaning every wall-wart that says "input voltage: 100-240V"). You'll want to make sure the power supply sits as far away from this unit as possible, and you'll want to get one that has a choke - that's the little cylinder the cord passes through, usually located near the end of the output cable.

I also question the decision to provide 24V phantom power all the time. Yes, phantom power is always on, and it's half the voltage most condenser microphones require. But you're most likely using this device on stage with a dynamic microphone that doesn't need phantom power, Sure it shouldn't suffer any damage from phantom power - as long as the cable's not broken. And nobody's ever had a mic cable go bad, have they?

I like it.

By Oscar from Los Angeles, CA

Subtle compression and EQ. Pitch correction can be transparent and useful at about 11 o'clock. Reverb and delays are very usable with some care to not over do it. Overall it is a very nice unit. Finally something not to complicated for Vocalists. I recommend it. Sounds just right.

Shipwreck

By Lee from Champaign il

I gave it a 3 only because it also adds to much line noise. It does all the things it is supose to do quite well but even when its turned off we get some line noise. We have tried various cable switches but still kinda noisey.

TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 - Battery Powered

By Riff B. from Pensacola, FL
Music Background: Singer-Songwriter, Musician, Home Recirding & Production

Was a great pedal before and now it's even better. Mostly due to allowing much more user control on the individual Echo and Delay settings, as well as ability to dial in Reverb settings independently. That's HUGE! Battery capable is helpful and should be offered with all pedals, especially 9V vs the previously Godforsaken 12 V set-up!!!
