And even though the lithium battery will power the mic for over 100 hours, if the power does get low, you can run the mic with two AA batteries! Even better, the Pro R+ incorporates digital switching to reduce post-production editing — with a two-stage highpass filter, three-stage gain control, HF Boost, and a Safety Channel to prevent clipping in the event of unexpected amplitude spikes.

I used to use two microphones for doing videos in large rooms for a digital news service. Now I'm comfortable with using only the Rode VideoMic Pro+ mic. And Rode answered all our prayers by using a 100 hour rechargeable battery that I've never had to remove. Before going on assignment, I just charge it with the USB cable. I can't say enough good about this microphone.
Excellent Shotgun MIc
I've shot live performance videos in the past but getting good sound quality had always been an issue for me. Internal camera mics sound terrible, using a handheld can be cumbersome, and many shotguns are simply far too noisy.
The VideoMic Pro+ has no self-noise issues whatsoever, gives me perfectly clear audio, and the automatic power function is truly a life saver. My videographers always use the LCD screen to monitor so the location of the mic's output jack isn't an issue for me, however those who prefer to use the viewfinder on their DSLRs may find this mic unusable for that reason alone.
