sE Electronics V Kick Dynamic Supercardioid Kick Drum Microphone
sE Electronics V Kick Dynamic Supercardioid Kick Drum Microphone Reviews
Designed for use with kick drums, floor toms, or other large drums where low-frequency energy is critical and SPLs are high, the sE Electronics V Kick is the most compact and versatile bass drum microphone in its class. The V Kick's integrated swivel joint allows flexibility of placement, and its purpose-built DMC7 SP capsule delivers a sonic character specifically tailored for bass drums. This custom-tuned capsule, combined with a durable aluminum housing and an internal shock mount has studio and live sound engineers here at Sweetwater putting the V Kick in rotation for jazz kits, metal kits, and everything in between. Further shaping of the sound is facilitated by two switches on the rear the microphone — letting you swap between Classic and Modern voicing options for the entire microphone or for just the high frequency shelf. From Classic punch to Modern edge, the sE Electronics V Kick delivers the ultimate kick drum sound
SE V KICK mic
Nice Mic with 4 EQ setting options. Works very well in my 22x18 maple shell. This mic is very robust and heavy. It is MUCH heavier in weight compared the AKG D112, and the Audix D6 so beware of that. I bought a On stage quick change mic adapter so I would not have to screw this mic on and off the stand every time I use it. It just clicks on the kick drum mic stand now when I play live shows.
Solid mic
I purchased this mic at my sales engineer's recommendation. It has great sound and options with a classic/modern voicing switch.
Great Kick Mic Concept
This mic is perfect for working with a wide range of kits and styles. The "classic" and "modern" tuning switches have a significant impact on the overall sound, allowing for quick experimentation without having to switch out mics.
Build quality is really solid. Not quite as heavy as a D6, but definitely road worthy.
I’m impressed
I have been using an Audix kick mic for years. I ordered a new kick drum and decided to go with the Kelly shu and a new designated mic (SE V KICK) for the drum. Evens Emad heads on a DW kick, both switches set to modern and this drum sounds AMAZING! Easiest kick I have ever dial in (it sounds great without trying). Exactly the sound I was after! I would have gone with a more traditional mic (Audix or Shure) but took the recommendation from Mac at Sweetwater and after hearing and playing through it I am ver impressed! Thank you Sweetwater!!!
Excellent on large floor tom
Purchased for two reasons. I've been working with a drummer that has large deep floor toms and sets his cymbals extremely low in relation to the drum heads. This has made the issues of mic placement and bleed a real challenge. The low profile and down facing base and cable connector on the V-Kick solved the placement issue immediately. This along with the super cardioid pattern all but eliminated excessive bleed from the other elements of the kit. By setting both of the filter pins to modern, it produces a nice balance between a strong low end and good snappy transient of the sticks. Very pleasing results.
Yup!!
Very sweet, play a brand of originals of metal heavy blues. And this mic is amazing. I drop the adjustments both down to modern settings and sounded awesome through the house/mixer PA system. Then I have a personal drum module and Yamaha mixer. The kit is fully triggered (Roland rt30's) and completely mic'd. Run sends in stereo from my mixer out to pair of Alesis 12" drum amps.
Super
Thank you Jeff Allen for recommending this mic, it is like having 4 mics in 1. It sounds great!
Warm and punchy...or whatever else you want. 4 mics in one!!
If the V-Kick only had one voicing (like most other kick drum mics in this price range) I'd still be super impressed by its warmth and punch. But, this mic has four different voicings! Each one offers its own unique, style-specific sound and gives you the ability to sculpt your kick drum sound with the flick of a switch. The V-Kick is the Pearl Eliminator of kick drum mics. Get one.
