Sounds great, but it’s hard on drum heads
This is a great beater. It's very well made and provides fantastic attack on the kick. However, be prepared to blow through drum heads, especially if using it with the narrow side facing the head. A really thick impact patch would probably do the trick.
Quite sturdy and good finish.
This beater for the bass drum has very good quality in its material and finish. On the other hand, it is quite sturdy. I have been able to use it with different brands of drum pedals that I have and in all of them I fit like a glove.
Beater for life
I have compared this beater to several felt beaters that I also own. The hard maple head delivers a little more "slap" at the attack. I have found that the mic I'm using (52a) exaggerates this effect. I think this is the best sounding beater that I've ever used. I'm using the thin side and there is a minor down side to using this. Even as this beater might last forever it tends to destroy heads. I have busted two kick heads way faster than I would otherwise. On the first one I did not use a kick patch and this beater ate right through. On the second head I did use a patch but it was a cheap, single layer one. Again this beater tore through it. So my advice is to use a quality, heavy duty kick patch on your head.
