Roland VH-14D Digital Hi-hat Controller
Roland VH-14D Digital Hi-hat Controller Reviews
With independent bow/edge sensors and advanced play support, the VH-14D digital hi-hat controller gives you the tools you need to create dimension and atmosphere in your tracks just like a "real" set of hi-hats. Mount the VH-14D to your favorite hi-hat stand using the included accessories, and you're fully supported for pumping time, splashing accents, and creating dizzying variations of closed eighths, half-open flourishes, and bombastic full-bore metal washes. Whatever your style, the VH-14D's speed and expression are second to none. Even super-quick EDM hat rolls don't get lost when you're grooving on the VH-14D's soft, quiet 14-inch rubber playing surface. What really impresses us at Sweetwater is the VH-14D's intuitive approach to sound creation. Footing, sticking, and even choking on these hats feels much like the real thing. What's more, the VH-14D's sleek, low-profile design looks totally natural in both hybrid and fully electronic environments. Whether you're incorporating this trigger into your studio TD-50 or VAD stage kit, the Roland V-Drums VH-14D hi-hat controller delivers the look, feel, and performance you've been waiting for.
New for
Glitches Anyone?
Have had at least one event where open HH settings vanished into the ether. Reboot of the TD-50X was required.
Pretty sure that won't work if using live.
If it happens again, I'll try and snap a video.
Best Hi Hat that money can buy in 2024
As technology advances, we get closer and closer to a true acoustic feel... not quite there yet... but if you want the closest experience to the real thing... this is it...
It may not perform perfectly out of the box but you can definitely tweak the trigger settings and make this almost indistinguishable from the real deal....
worth the extra $$
These were better than i expected. Big difference than my vh 13 hats. The feel and sensitivity are closer to playing real high hats. Still not perfect. But, probably the best out there right now for e drums. I did have to turn off the touch choke settings. I was not sure the difference was going to big enough to justify the price. I was wrong. These are well worth it. Thanks to chriss and the sweetwater team. Excellent service as usual.
Improvement over VH11 but not exactly what I had hoped for
I will say that part of the issue I have with these is TD-50 related. There are about 6 sample intervals when going from fully closed to fully open, over a 10mm span. That is a rough transition when trying to lock in on any one of the intervals when playing a beat. The slightest movement of your foot causes it to jump intervals and open or close too much. The TD-50X upgrade does not solve this problem which I was really hoping it would. For what you pay for this gear, I would expect it to be much more accurate in that respect.
Simply the Best
Now, you might be asking yourself, "Hey me, why would I ever spend this amount of money on a digital hi-hat, when I could buy an entire acoustic drum kit for the same price?" Well, it's all perspective. I've been drumming for over 30 years, and have been playing V-Drums for over 20 years. Do the other hi-hats in the V-Drum line perform? Sure, they do. Is this one the best performing model? Shockingly so. If you're a high end hobbiest, or professional, you shouldn't even balk at the price, this is a game chaning experience in electronic drumming.
A Big Improvement Over The VH-10 Analog Hi-Hats
The VH-14D significantly improved the hi-hat function on my TD-27. It is more responsive than the original VH-10. The pedal action is much closer to the function of a real hi-hat. There are still times when I have to adjust my playing style to get the desired results, but it is still much better than the VH-10. If you can afford it, this is a good upgrade.
Roland V-Pad VH-14D Digital Hi-hat Controller
Wow- what a difference! This should be with every e-kit! Worth every penny for an upgrade if you do not have one.
Night and day is the difference, Like playing a hi-hat on an acoustic kit!
Close as you can get
The obvious complaint is the price come on Roland!
but the digital upgrade is fantastic and after I upgraded my td-27s software I plugged the VH14 in and the set up was easy.
They are really good and very fun to play. I am excited to try recording.
Finally (Worth the wait)
The wait is finally over….very nice hats. Did the TD50X upgrade (completely worth the $200) to take full advantage of the new sounds and all is good. They are better than the 13's and their larger diameter means less fatigue for us traditional players. It is nice having just one cord to deal with.
They play and sound GREAT !
I upgraded from the expanded TD-10 Roland drum set to the new TD-50 module, PD-140DS snare, CY-18DR Ride cymbal and the VH-14D Hi Hat.
Well worth every penny.
I am a very experienced acoustic drummer with 30+ years.
It is such a pleasure to be able to practice and record without the neighbors or police coming over to not enjoy the decibels.
I can now control that issue better with the electronic drum set without any sacrifice except to the damage of my hearing ( :
Roland V-Pad VH-14D
As close to acoustic hi hat that I could have imagined. Very impressed with sensitivity.
virtually the best ever
Requires very light stick action to get the full effect.
