Great Fender Champ AMP
Absolutely! It works and produces a clean sound. I purchased this mic for my Fender Champ Amp. And it worked like a champ! Thank you, Sweetwater, for recommending this mic.
Great on drums of course, shockingly killer on acoustic guitar
This is a workhorse on drums, got them all around the kit. That's kind of a given though. What surprised me was when I did a test run of all my mics on various sources a nd the V7 sounded best on acoustic guitar by a long shot :/
That's it, that's all I've got. It's a workhorse on drums and a dark horse on acoustic guitar.
Love sE mics
Outstanding mic, this is my second one. Soon number 3 will be in my mic locker. I can highly recommend the V7x.
Andy Tullis
My new favorite dynamic mic.
I bought a sE V7x at the recommendation of a friend, tried it everywhere. I loved it so I also bought 2 V-Beats (Same mic, different body/mount).
The V7X on Electric GT, For distortion, its very modern sounding, tight, upfront. SM57 have more mid/low mids, and more of a vintage vibe. But the V-Beat or V7X sounds amazing and add 2db to 180hz, and you are done. For Clean Electric GT, it sounded fantastic. Again, upfront, clear, clean. Just a great new color for my tool box.
I even tested it on Acoustic guitar side by side with my "go to" acoustic mic (AT4050). Also tested a Audix D1, OM6, SM57. The V7X floored me! Sounded very close to my 4050, It sounded so good I will use it for acoustic micing in the future. A statement I thought I would never say about a dynamic mic.
On drums, the bottom end is clear and tight, without the low end mud compared to others. Once you start EQ'ing the mic, is easy to EQ/dial in. Meaning, compared to a Audix D1, the D1 you have to Eq out areas that the mic is adding to it, such as boxy-ness and 2.5k bump when mic'n toms. The sE V7x/V-beat you start with a sound that sound just like the tom and can simple Eq to taste. Compare to a 57, the best way to describe it is clear with full frequency response. A 57 has more low mids but no presence, the V7X/V-Beat has clean tight lows/low mids and the highs are fantastic! Sounds like the drum when you stand in front of it and hit it!
V7X/V-Beat sounds the closes to a Large Diaphragm condenser on toms, but without the bleed issues. I was totally surprised!
Snare, the V7X/V-beat is my excellent.
An all purpose dynamic I have real confidence in.
This V7X mic really is something. You can carefully EQ/tailor the bass response through proximity effect by how close you place to the mic to the source. Very well designed in that regard. It also has a clarity and accuracy to the upper mids and highs not unlike what I get with the best dynamics: like an M88. Off axis rejection is good, and off axis sound doesn't have unpleasant phasing issues. +1 on the "great for snare" bandwagon. The built in shock mount is really effective for eliminating stage rumble or handling noise, and the windscreen is effective and acoustically transparent. Its worked very well on vocals, Djembe, doumbek and various parts of a drum kit, guitar cabinets, will work for bass drum or bass cabinet in a pinch if you close mic within an inch or so to emphasize the bass and give it an EQ boost on the mixer. Not a substitute for LDC, SDC, good ribbons, etc. in a studio recording situation: but as a jack of all trades: I've come prefer it for its lack of overt coloration and overall accuracy it delivers on any source, though I certainly have other favorites for specific tasks: I haven't tried everything out there, of course. As a dedicated vocal mic the V7 may be a better choice for female vocals or head voice type pop vocals: as the upper mid lift and higher proximity roll off point are so well matched to working the mic in that way: But for deep male vocals that build from the chest voice: the V7X can be a better choice.
Desert Island Mic
I bought one of these last year just to check it out because I had encountered a couple of sE's higher end mics in studios and was impressed. I was skeptical as to whether the less expensive offerings would hold up. A year later and I have 6 of these in stock and use all of them regularly. An SM57 will sound OK on anything, but this thing sounds GREAT on everything! I ran a concert recently using these almost exclusively - vocals, guitar cab, snare, trumpet (really shines on horns), even produces a decent kick in a pinch. And the rejection is so good I can sit a flute player 2 ft. from the drums without fear.
TL;DR - throw away your 57/58's and replace them with these
I actually love this on vocals
I have the SE Electronics V7 which is wonderful.
But recently purchased this V7x and when used with a mic foam cover it sounds amazing
As I mainly play in the open air in town centre's.
So I'm playing in all sorts of weather's and I use the wind shield foam
For when it's windy.
This mic has such a crisp warm sound that really cuts through.
Has a lot of detail too.
Very pleased with this mic although it's mainly an instrument mic.
It really suits my voice. It's now favourite gigging microphone.
Best Drum Mic!
This is absolutely phenomenal on drums! Great on snare and toms. Also great on guitar cabinets. Has great rejection and bottom end it absolutely huge. EQs nicely and its built to last. I'm a HUGE sE fan. It's my 3rd mic from them and every time I get a new one from them I've been impressed with sound and quality.
THE snare mic for live use.
Where to begin? This thing makes everything else look like a toy. I"ve never had a snare cut through with a schmack right out of the box. This might just be the best snare mic I"ve ever used.
Multi-Instramental Must Have
Aaron, our rep at Sweetwater recommended this mic for our small church. We have a multi-instrumentalist that plays mandolin, 12-String, banjo, zither, dulcimer, whistles, etc. I used to need two different mics on 3 mixer channels to adjust for his weapon of choice but this mic handles everything quite well, specially mandolin that can sound wimpy or dull with other mics.
another vote for snare
I use this live for snare top and I have been blown away. as well have anyone else who Ive shown it. great mic and i need more
Excellent snare mic
I bought this mic hoping to find a new permanent snare mic.
I had been using the standard sm57 and beta57. The v7x absolutely sounds way and above better than those 2, in my opinion. I love the look, feel and most importantly the sound of this. The price is great too. The mic has a focused, very clear sound. No hi hat bleed. Love this mic.
always buy from Sweetwater, best customer service out there and fast shipping.
Next level snare drum mic
I haven't tried this on anything but snare drum. I just put it there, and it hasn't moved!
Very tight pattern with less hi hat bleed, for example. No honky/boxy stuff like the SM57 it is replacing.
Just an all around useful, solid sound that seems to work with any drum. Love it, 5 stars.
Very durable and solid build as well.
Superb Snare Mic
Best snare mic I"ve heard to date. Captures the full body of the snare without any annoying boxy mids. The top end is smooth. The bleed rejection is far superior to a 57.
More punch in the mix.
When first tested it on the snare, i realized there was more information in the 1khz - 2 khz range when compared to a 57, and i was not very pleased. Then, when I heard all channels running, it delivered more punch and definition because of that, and that has been quite helpful indeed. No cymbal and bass drum bleed problems when positioned wisely. Great mic, will be on my snare 90% of the time for sure.
You want this tool in your mic arsenal.
If you know how to use an SM57 or SM58 or an occasional Beta 58A on instruments, you should seriously consider this one for maximizing signal on close miking...
Mic placement is everything and this bad boy gives the recording engineer more options. It has a unique character to it that I'm still getting used to, but so far so good. I agree with others who elsewhere have mentioned that the sE 7 represents a long-overdue evolutionary step in this price point of dynamic mics. I already want to get another one because similar to the SM 57, it has a lot of versatility, but delivers a fresh sound that makes it exciting to work with.
Over time, when the internal red foam windscreen starts disintegrating due to oxidation (surprising how it seems as though no one ever mentions this), I hope sE and Sweetwater can make a replacement available. The color gives the mic a really cool look, and is another example of how sE Electronics isn't just about quality and innovation, but they have taste and style, too!
Nice Mic!
Studio owner, vocalist...been doing this for a long time and this is a very nice sounding mic. Oh sure there are probably better but not many at this price point.
se v7x
I am now going to the vx7 first instead of 57.. that says it all.
