Vox V212C 50-watt 2x12" Open-back Cabinet Reviews

As a guitarist and musician my opinion is that after 40 years of playing on stage, home and recording this cabinet is by far the best sounding speaker cabinet I have ever had. Not just one cab but now two. Truly because of the tone and overall pairing this has with 4 amps.

Orange 15 watt amp
Friedman 50 watt 2 channel amp
Khan dual 7/15 watt amp

Guitars are SG's, Fender Strats and Tele, Gretsch, Explorer and Les Pauls... The only Guitars I have not used through the cabinet are various Acoustics microphoned.


I have paired my amps with the Friedman 2x12, Marshall slant 30 4x12 and combo speakers and have had others hear the tone and sounds and the VOX rips. There is more clarity in, tightness and low end from the VOX cabs.

I purchased the second cabinet after my Guitar Sales Tech was able to work with me on pricing that I could not pass up. My sales rep is along time supporting Sweetwater employee that has helped me so much over the years make easy transactions and worked with me on every purchase or issue. Guitar purchases sight unseen or played are risky and I am picky so...

The Cabinets from a quality perspective have had ZERO defects physically and have been packaged from the manufacturer with the crazy good protection. After close inspection there are no mars or dents, scratches etc. Nothing like thier label cracked etc... They are sturdy as heck and I have stacked them with a few amps on top of just one of them as well.

Using extremely high quality short connection cords they are just huge sounding with an ability to handle everything I have tossed at them. With 50 watts shoved in them its not an AC/DC concert amplification but I am not playing in Ford Field. These will handle ANY needs for home or gigs and will sound amazingly big.

Also, I dont mess with too much with effects or pedals. Couple delay and reverbs and I choose for the natural AMP tones with a Sonic Maximizer for high and low end. The VOX cabs respond incredibly well with an amazing feedback on the tones and sounds. Its the vintage 30 watt I totally believe in. As well as the OPEN BACK. Some like the tight forward tones of a closed back - This just opens the room up a bit and the response in smaller venues is insane on the comments.

Cant say enough good things for an opened back 2x12 Vintage cab. LOVE THEM!

I recently bought a Morgan Dual 20 head. For a cab, I started out with a Morgan 1x12 with Creambacks and really impressed. However, took a shot and returned it (Sweetwater's return policy also rocks!) and got this VOX V212C.

I love the open back, twin speaker design. The sound seems more spacious than the 1x12 mentioned above. Sure, that's obvious. But it is more than just a second speaker. It feels different; more spacious, more roomy. So much more than just the difference in speaker types. I absolutely love this amp / cab combo and if I'm not playing, I'm thinking about sitting down to play.

I tend to play on the quieter side so have yet to really test out the tonal possibilities of either. Or the upper limits of the volume. However, at my lower / practice levels, I can already dial in all sorts of music from this combination. And as another reviewer mentioned, the cab is rock solid, looks classic and is a really cost effective way to get two Celestion Greenbacks.

Wanted to build a cheap half stack for my guitar room so paired this cabinet with a Orange Micro Terror and it really sounds great.

Great cabinet, I"m sure most people are getting this for the AC30 head, but I actually bought it to pair with an orange Brett Hinds terror. It was the most affordable way to get a couple Celestion Greenbacks I could find. It still conveys crystal clear highs and mids but far exceeds my expectation as far as it"s ability handle high gain situations. It"s great for saving space in a home studio and certainly can make enough noise to gig with. The only drawback I can speak of is the single 16 ohm input on the back. Would love to have had two inputs.

All in all, I looked at a lot of 2x12 cabinets, vertical and horizontal, this was the least expensive premade cabinet with Celestion greenbacks installed. Most everything else in this price range had 80/70s or vintage 30s or lower quality speakers.

I got the Vox 212 cab about a week & a half ago to be placed underneath my Vox AC30 combo. I love my AC30 combo but I was looking to make the sound fuller & I believe the 212 cab did the trick. So now it's 4 speakers instead of 2. I have heard people say that adding speakers doesn't increase volume much, but whatever the case, I have had to come down considerably on my master volume on my ac30 so I would say for me it made me much louder. The greenbacks sound great as I expected because the AC30 combo also has greenbacks so I knew what I was getting into. The cab appears to be very well made, certainly road ready. I can certainly see myself getting more of these in the future. Josh at Sweetwater offered up excellent customer service as well.

I have a "Sweetwater Special" VOX AC10C Amp where Sweetwater removed the originally installed speaker by VOX and replaced it with a Celestion 10" Greenback Speaker. It helped make my Gibson Standard Les Paul with Ceramic Humbuckers Growl. However, I took the chance of connecting the VOX AC10C to this VOX V212C Cab primarily for the power and grit that the 2X12" Greenback Speakers could deliver. And, WOW! Now, my Les Paul goes from Growl to Roar! It's hard to describe, but the combination of this Cab with the Les Paul suits my needs for Rock Music.

I've got several cabinets. For the price this one really can't be topped.

I play it through several of my amp heads and it sounds amazing. It's not fully broken in yet either. I'm sure it will only improve over the years.

Did I mention the price? Remarkable, get this while you can.

Sounds great with my AC30 custom classic head, originally I wanted the Celestion Blues loaded cabinet, but after listening to YouTube videos and playing mine for a month it sounds close enough for my ears and at less than half the price it is much better value. I get all the 60s Vox sounds I want with no reservations. It is built like a tank, so it is heavy and awkward to move around, fortunately the two handles help with that. I might add a third handle to the middle, after the warranty is up, of course.

I see folks comparing these speakers to just about every brand out there.....ya know why??? Because the Greenback speaker is awesome. Vox installed these two 12" Greenbacks in a beautiful cabinet. The sound is remarkable, good bottom end, punchy midst, and great highs. Other speakers may sound different, but none better. Don't waste a minute looking further. If you want a 2x12 cabinet to pair with your Cierratone, Dr.Z, or any other amp, give this one a try.

Outstanding! Sounds great connected to my AC30C2/AC30CC2/AC30CCH. It even sounded great with a Marshall 50 Watt setting on top and it looked awesome. The is a great cab for the price, looks, and sound.

This is a very nice cab. 2 greenbacks, high quality build. No weird noises, and it looks sweet. Bought it for use with an AC 15 head but I plug all my small combos into it. Sounds awesome with my bassbreaker 15, DSL 15, and my fender deluxe clone. I even play my orange micro terror through it. Works great with all of the above.

Not much I can say about this cab, except that it has Greenback speakers, and I wish I could have the option to buy it with Bluebacks without buying the handwired model. But that's a mod I can do down the road. The cab is light and the sound is a huge improvement over my old amp, so I'm happy with it either way.
