High Quality & Portable

By Jonathan from ZEELAND, MI on December 4, 2023

We are a 5 piece pop/rock band and use this EVERYWHERE we go. It has been extremely reliable. We added a rack mountable headphone amp so we can use IEMs with the 8 aux outs we each have our own mix. You can connect directly with it through it's own wifi, iPhone or Android. The preamps in it are great and our in-ear mixes sound high quality. The onboard FX are also great and make us sound like pros with a relatively cheap solution. Can't recommend this digital snake enough.

My only (and very small gripe) is that our FOH sound engineer can't be too far away from it to mix on. I would say no more than 25' or else he'll get disconnected.

Big D Desktop Control A Nice Bonus

By Stan from Southwest USA on August 22, 2023 Music Background: decades of playing and recording

I absolutely love the Big D desktop control option with the Ui24R. It provides a big (thus the name) and very flexible control surface that makes the device a compelling replacement for a medium format hardware mixer. And it still permits other simultaneous controls such as a tablet and/or direct-connect HDMI monitor and keyboard. I put together this video to demonstrate a method for implementing the Big D interface.

Haven't even done a gig with it yet, just took it out of the box two days ago and so far I'm blown away.

By Gary murway from pa on July 28, 2023 Music Background: guitar, vocal, composer, ect regular stuff we do coming from garage bands in the 1960's

Haven't even done a gig with it yet, just took it out of the box two days ago and so far I'm blown away.

I'm aware that there are a ton of choices for digital mixers out there
But hey boys and girls. If you're looking for a great and versatile digital mixer at a great price point for small to medium audio duty, this definitely be the one. It is for me anyway.

I started out with the xr18. Two cuz I wanted to backup. 2 years later they both died. I go to replace them and find out they're being discontinued. So I figured I'd jump over to midis mr18, and bam they're dumping that one too. After a little research I discovered that these guys we're not the super mixers I thought they were in terms of longevity. When they worked they were fabulous and did everything I needed without cluttering up my desk with faders and stuff that doesn't apply to the projects I do. Mostly theater work and in house recording.

But it looks like I can get repairs and parts done on this thing if it craps out and hopefully it last longer than the other xr18 units did. at least I can get it repaired. I tried getting my xr18's repaired, but everybody shook their head and said can't get parts, behringer just not supporting it blah blah blah.

That said, behringer was an awesome Segway into digital mixing coming out of mackey analog for life performance and whatever desk was in whatever recording studio for that kind of thing. Being an old guy that I am, and growing up without the internet, when gear went bad in the old days I and my cronies usually blame the retailer. But now with all the transparency online, retailers are pretty much the same. they're more upright and because of the transparency too. They just have to be or they're found out as scammers or cheating on price etc.

let me break for commercial here, in my 10 year experience dealing with sweetwater, their programs, extras, education modules, pricing, support, professionalism and they're ordering systems and processes, set them apart from other retailers. That's just been my personal experience. Overtime I've tried some of the others and not bad, but sweet waters become my main go to for gear, information, and advice. My particular sales engineer mike arango is top shelf and has an extensive background in the types of things that I use. I haven't dealt with other sales engineers but I'm sure there just on point as mike is with their particular disciplines and backgrounds. And when I ask Mike a question out of his purview he immediately responds with I don't know much about that let me put you in touch with... or I'll get an answer for you and I'll get back to you. Not that other retailers don't do that but sweetwater's done it differently in my opinion with a sense of organization I can count on for what I to do in my business.

Anyway enough of the commercial.

And here is the bottom line caveat I wish I aware of and open-minded about when I purchase the xr 18s.

If I had pushed my personal research a little bit further when I was so excited about the xr 18s just took a look at some of the other devices out there like the soundcraft and spent another $ which is roughly the difference between the xr18 and the soundcraft, I would have saved a few hundred bucks long run assuming they soundcraft has the longevity I'm hoping for.

Not complaining cuz I learned a lot about digital mixers does xr 18s and we all know that gear is like anything else. Stuff breaks. You expected to last but sometimes you get a lemon. It just sucks when the whole manufactured line might be manufactured to be a lemon, we've all purchased that kind of crap off of facebook and amazon.

Anyway, if you're looking for a digital mixer in a box without the minutia of faders, meters and a million wires hanging up your desk, it would have been worth spending a few extra dollars at the outset and learning about digital mixers on the soundcraft at $ then having spent around that same amount on devices that died.

Of course this is all hindsight for me so I can act accordingly in the future. Hopefully my mistakes and hindsight can be useful in your decision making looking for a digital mixer.

Technology at it's Best

By Tim Peters from Spring Hill, FL on February 7, 2023

This unit is just amazing! We needed an upgrade for a multi-band concert and at first I was a bit intimidated, but with a little help and a little time studying, this thing is so easy and full of everything you would want in a mixer and more!
Thanks go out to the Sweetwater Team for all their support and always glad to help!

Works great and is very flexible

By Stan from Tucson, AZ USA on November 25, 2022 Music Background: Decades of performing and recording

I played a live classic rock performance a couple of months ago where the sound guy used a ui24R. Although he had initial issues with the WIFI (the tablet kept disconnecting), it was fairly quickly determined that the interference was caused by the band attempting to use consumer-level wireless guitar and IEM products that also operated in the 2.4GHz range. Once we eliminated those wireless products, there were no further issues with the WIFI and the mixer worked like a charm. What I particularly liked was that all of the instrument and mic connections were made on stage which eliminated the need for a snake.

A few weeks later, I decided to replace my long-time MixWizard WZ3 board so I investigated the various wireless mixer options and settled on the ui24R. I had loved the quality of the preamps in the WZ3 and so was pleased that the ui24R has pretty nice preamps, as well, even if not quite as warm-sounding as the A&H pres. Where the ui24R really shines over the WZ3 is in the effects -- the WZ3 onboard effects were lame while the ui24R effects sound quite good and are very usable.

I find that the control interface for the ui24R also works well for my purposes. I especially appreciate the parametric EQ's on the input channels, and while not initially thrilled with the graphic EQ's on the outputs, have come to appreciate those as well, especially in conjunction with the very effective DBX feedback suppression controls. The real advantage here is that not only the mains but also the AUX outs (such as for on-stage monitors) can be precisely EQ'd for clarity and feedback control. Independent EQ was not available on the AUX outs on the MX3 without using an outboard processor.

So, by moving to the ui24R from the WZ3, I have eliminated a much larger and heavier road case-mounted physical mixer, outboard effects and EQ's, and a heavy and unwieldy 16-channel snake, and have in turn gained considerable flexibility in show management and control (including doing the mixing myself if so desired), very usable onboard effects, and very effective and flexible monitoring and feedback management options.

I should also add that the multitrack recording and playback functions to/from a USB stick seem to work quite well, and I'll next be attempting to use the mixer as a DAW interface.

BTW, by changing the internal WIFI to the 5GHz band, it appears that WIFI interference is no longer an issue. And, with the various other control options available (direct control with an HDMI touch-screen monitor and/or laptop), it just does not seem like this will be a problem going forward.

Perfect for serious band/small studio

By David on November 4, 2022 Music Background: I'm some dude.

I've been using the Ui24R for about 5 months now. It is exceptionally versatile and has great recording quality. Additionally, as an interface, it has about half of the latency of my "red" 4 in/4 out interface.

This Thing Is Amazing

By Jonathan from Michigan on July 6, 2022 Music Background: Worship leader / Pop band

I can't say enough good things about the Soundcraft UI 24. I almost bought the 16 channel Mackie comparison of this and I'm so glad they were all out! Had to get this one instead and I'm SO glad I did. We needed a way to get our 5 piece band independent and able to show up to gigs with our own sound equipment. We also wanted the ability to use IEMs since we use click and tracks. Our whole band is amazed with this thing. We love that we can each have our own independent mix and we can each control our mix from any smart device, IOS or Android. You just connect to the built in computer in the Soundcraft via WIFI and browser and your the faders show up. The onboard FX sound great and the preamps sound amazing. We've already used the multitracking feature as we were wanting to do some promo video. Everything worked without a hitch and we multitracked about 11 channels straight into my Logic daw. We've had it for about 2 months and have already fallen in love. Our whole band is very impressed with it. We also bought a 6U Gator hard case rack to put it into along with a 6 channel Powerplay Behringer headphone amp so we can each have our own in-ear mix via 1/4" to 1/8" cables. We'll be picking up a power conditioner soon as well. So far, we are very pleased with the portability and quality of the Soundcraft. The casing is metal and very durable. So far, we are loving it!

Best mixer EVER

By Jay Kohles from Great Falls, MT on July 1, 2022 Music Background: Gigging Drummer/Musician for 38 years & counting

The Soundcraft Ui24R is the BEST mixer I have ever owned. I have been a gigging drummer/musician for 38 years. This mixer has everything you would need. I have used other digital mixers from PreSonus and Behringer and this Soundcraft mixer blows the others out of the water. On their website they give you a demo of the interface for both a tablet and phone. The pre-amps and effects sound amazing! Even the first 2 channels have Digitech amps built in for guitar and bass. I typically use them for practice so my guitar player and bassist don't have haul amps to rehearsal. I love the fact that there are 8 AUX outs for monitors with the capability of having 10 AUX outs. Oh and did I mention this is an Audio interface as well? You can also record straight to a thumb drive from the mixer.

Lets get to the interface/connectivity. It is the most user friendly interface I've used. Everything you need at your finger tips and there is no guessing. Other digital mixers require you to download an app in order to operate the mixer which creates problems on certain devices (sometimes Apple works best, sometimes Android works best). Soundcraft does NOT require an app. You simply connect any device (that has wifi and the ability to access a browser) to the mixers hotspot and bam you're connected to the mixer. Open up a browser of your choosing (Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox) and type in the magic website and you are in. In 2 years I have only had one connection issue since I've owned this mixer and it was corrected by changing the wifi channel on the mixer to a channel that wasn't full of other devices in the area. Since then, there have been no issues at all! If you are still worried about connection issues, you can plug a monitor into the mixer via HDMI and a USB mouse/keyboard to operate the mixer without connecting to any network at all.

I love the fact that you can save scenes/snapshots mixes. So if you're at a club and it sounds amazing, just save it so the next time you play that venue, call it up so there will be minimal adjustments as far as mixing goes. Another great feature is having the ability to adjust the "view" of channels. So if your playing a venue and not using all 20 inputs, you can create a custom view that only show the inputs/outputs/effects you are using.

If you don't believe that this is the best mixer, do your own research. Go to Soundcraft's website and read about it. Go to YouTube and watch videos on it. It is truly amazing! If I wasn't on such a tight budget, I'd probably buy another one as a backup!

Yes there is a technology learning curve to get connected. No worries, you can also just plug in a mouse and an HDMI monitor or tv and good to go. I haven't even scratched the surface of endless connection possibilities. My main goal was to support live sound, but I'm excited to see what happens when the whole band enters the virtual world of computing each with their own track.

stands for pretty darned awesome. I'm not an electronics person by a long shot but my friend, who is, calls this mixer a sexy B! Our guitar player, who also is an electronics person, recommended it, so that's what we went with. All I know is when we set it up and played through it yesterday, it sounded great.

Most Excellent

By Dave Nutzell from Lenoir City. TN on December 10, 2019 Music Background: 47 years as a musician, sound tech and pro audio sales

Moved to the UI24r from a very popular similar unit. The Soundcraft is superior in every way. The sound quality is smooth and rich, not screechy like our previous mixer. The software is EXCELLENT, very easy to navigate. You can get to any setting you need with two clicks, and the fact that it runs in a browser rather than an app is genius. The wifi is pretty solid, probably half as many (or less) connection issues as our previous unit. (I plan to replace the Wi-Fi antennas with more powerful ones to resolve this). Lastly, Soundcraft support is great. I had a question looking for an obscure setting so I called support. Within a couple of minutes I was connected with Peter who answered my question immediately and I was happily on my way. It doesn’t get r than that, and you certainly can’t get that kind of support from the makers of our previous mixer.

Ali can day is if you’re considering buying this type of unit, save your bucks and buy the Soundcraft, you won’t be disappointed!

Awsome Unit for the Ca$h!

By D'wayne D.Y. Holland from Southern California on November 12, 2019 Music Background: Artist, Musician, DJ and Sound Engineer.

I nervously tried the unit at a live show at my club for the first time. The artists on stage was Norman Carter of the Delphonics and Rose Royce! Already knowing the ins and outs of all mixing boards, this unit not only exceeded my expectations but the artist enjoyed the mixes on and off stage so much that they asked to come back to the venue! I've since used the unit for live performances from the legendary Tom Brown! yes. Mr. Jamaica Funk himself! 3 years later and I still love it. Even though I've upgraded to a bigger system, I still use the Ui24R as often as I can. I'm actually considering a second one to try the daisy-chain feature!

Thank you Mac Hatton! You're the Man!

Really Exceptional Equipment

By Tom Schultz from Denver on March 14, 2019 Music Background: Professional musician

I needed a mixer/multitrack recorder for use outside the studio, at live venues. The last time i personally used a live mixer it was an analog and had physical faders on an actual mixing board, so I was a little nervous about the learning curve of a digital mixer and about the functionality of virtual controls in a live situation where you have to be hands on making quick changes. Thank you, Paul Allen, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, for recommending this to me. After a few days with the Ui24R I'm fairly impressed with it. It did take me awhile to get it set up. Downloading and updating the latest firmware was simple. Connecting with an Ipad and iphone via the dedicated SoundCraft wifi was a breeze. I managed all that on day one. I failed, though, at my attempts to direct connect my MacBook Pro via the ethernet connection and couldn't find any clear detail online about how to set up that connection. Thankfully, a few minutes on the phone with Zach Zoske, a technical support specialist at Sweetwater, and it's all done now.
The UI24R seems to live up to everything good that's written about it. Functionality on the mobile device is excellent. The built in router works fine, but even SoundCraft recommends using an external router for better connectivity, so I have one on order.
Be sure to set up a password on any wifi you use, or you will have potential problems with interference. If there is no password, any audience member could connect with your mixer over wifi and change all your settings. Some of the negative reviews about this product more than likely would not have been published if the user had taken the trouble to set up a password.
I have only scratched the surface of all the possibilities of the Ui24R but I have checked it out for a basic live mix using about 10 inputs and I've test run the USB multitrack recording. My Mac, running logic Pro X recognized the device and readily connected with it, so I can safely set up a live mix and at the same time manage multitrack recording with more channels than I will ever need.
Thanks again to Sweetwater for this recommendation. I'm quite pleased with this one. It's really surprising what you get for the money on this machine.

LOVE THE Ui24R

By Joe Soqeta from Nadi Aiport, Fiji Islands. on March 5, 2019 Music Background: Keyboard Player.

Such a powerful mixer.... Never had to open the manual.... everything is just simple and very easy to understand. From the first time we powered up to sound check, the sound was noticeable.... Never been a fan of Soundcraft but now I AM A BELIEVER....

Same mics, same instruments, same FOH speakers but just a new MIXER, the sound was really noticeable.... There's something is this Soundcraft that makes the sound so natural and perfect. We didn't have to use much EQ to tweak the sound, most of it were just flat... just a bit here and there.... Unlike our old mixer where you had to dial it in hard to get the sound you wanted....

Thank you Aaron Cieslwosky (hope I spelling is correct) :-)

Great Blue Box

By Dan from United States on November 29, 2018 Music Background: FOH Engineer, Livestream Engineer, Production Manager

Full Disclosure: Since purchasing this unit, I have become a beta tester for SoundCraft.
That said, this is an amazing piece of equipment. For those who have had trouble, there are very good explanations available. The internal wifi is not as strong as an external router. It cannot be due to regulatory issues across the globe. However, there are several other ways to connect, so you have redundancy options built right in (wired ethernet, external router, HDMI Monitor with mouse & keyboard). I have used the ui24r for about a year and a half (with an external router), and have clocked well over a thousand hours on it. The UI24R has been rock solid. I've used it in all different venues and conditions, and the sound quality is great every time. The preamps are extremely similar (if not identical) to those used in the SI series of consoles.
Also, maybe the best feature of the mixer is the Facebook users group that goes along with it. There is a large community of users from across the world ready to help you with whatever question, whenever you have it.

After Almost a Year of Use...

By GDO from Rancho Cucamonga, CA on October 16, 2018 Music Background: Drumming & Recording since 1971

Paying attention not only to the reviews but also the "reviewer" has always served me well. A bad review should almost always be taken lightly when it"s A) surrounded by rave reviews, and B) poorly written (example: calling something a pos because it didn"t come with printed instructions or they couldn't get the wifi working - I hope for his sake he doesn't give up on this model so quickly).

Fwiw, I"ve owned the Ui24R close to a year now and it has operated flawlessly and with smooth sonic grace. I did too much homework before pulling the trigger on this model and have never regretted the choice. I love working with the Ui24R. Is there a learning curve? Of course! Hopefully we all know that going in. I've owned mine long enough to answer the questions I had before I bought, which were:

Are there any design flaws?
Answer: Yes. Some important things are inaccessible when rack mounted, but there are workarounds.

How does it sound?
Answer: Awesome. It doesn't get better than this.

Is it reliable?
Answer: Yes. Very much so.

How does the learning curve of this device compare with other devices of similar sophistication? Answer: Very favorably indeed. It's quite intuitive to operate.

For those who have owned this model long enough to know its capabilities, would you buy it again; or is there anything else on the market you might consider over the Ui24R now?
Answer: I"d buy it again 1000 times. I can"t comment on any new models because I haven"t looked. That says it all. I"m perfectly happy with what I have.

For the record, I have no affiliation with Soundcraft nor have I ever owned any of their products prior to the Ui24R.

there is a learning curve

By greg seger from terre haute, IN on August 21, 2018 Music Background: Bar bands

It has everything you ever wanted. Wifi Issues are not the problem of the mixer you have to analyze the location for a vacant channel. The only other gripe is when you are trying to locate feedback it takes time to switch screens to figure out exactly where its coming from. It would be nice if there was an indicator of which output is has the feedback, even better if it snapped to that screen. This mixer is the future of bands in bars. With the multitrack recording I am able to set up a gig early play back a previous recording. Then balance and EQ the sound without the players, it doesn't get any better than that. Who can afford a sound guy? High tech is not for everyone, but I love it.

No sluggish app needed! So you can use IOS Windows, Android, or Linux (or whatever)

By John O'Brien from Modesto, Ca on December 26, 2017 Music Background: Pro Audio, Musician and producer

Soundcraft has a ready to go recording interface to any modern/classic laptop running Linux, IOS, Windows or Android, needs no clunky laggy ridiculous app to operate wireless, don't have to buy a wireless interface, Lexicon Effects, Dbx Processing, Built In AFS2, Seamless use of VST effects from your computer on any channel (easy to setup). You can use more than one Windows Audio program (Ableton and Cantabile 3) AT THE SAME TIME using the same driver (crazy!!). Rerouting of channels within the board. VCA faders with Spill, Studer Preamps, 4 USB slots with an HDMI and hardware management without the need for a computer at all, simply plug in any wireless mouse and keyboard and most HDMI monitors. Remembers the ID of your mic to set it upon plug in (haven't used yet), Built in media player. 2.4 OR 5g hotspot included. The UI works well with a good 25' snake on stage.

Correction

By Andan from Northern California on November 7, 2017 Music Background: Singer-songwriter, band leader, open mic host and soundperson

I felt the need to respond to Jean's brief and negative review. The input gain screen does indeed show channel names and numbers. What probably happened is that Jean had arranged inputs into a view group and was toggling between that view and the gain screen.

The view group feature allows one to rearrange the order in which the numbered channels are displayed. In other words, you might have an instrument that's plugged into channel 3 set first in the view group (i.e., the channel 1 position), then a vocal mic plugged into channel 6 in the second view position. The latest firmware allows the user to customize the order by displaying selected channels in the order in which they were added to the view group, a very handy feature once you grasp it.

Because the view group feature is separate from the gain screen, the gain screen doesn't show the grouped channels as they appear in the view group, so you have to pay attention to the channel names/numbers. Of course it would be nice if the gain screen always mirrored the view group from which the user toggles, and perhaps Soundcraft will add that someday, but Jean's comment is misleading.

The Ui software is the best GUI in the business.

This is everything you need unless you are running huge shows. The real question is should you get the Ui24R, the X32 rack, or the qu-sb/qu-pac? The x32 and qu series do offer expansion options, but I doubt most users will ever need more than the Ui24r offers. I chose the Ui24r because of:

-Automatic feedback suppression (awesome feature works great and easy to use)
-built in 2 and 5G Wifi (no need to try and mount a wifi router in your rack)
-more inputs (20 mic/line inputs vs 16 on the others)
-easy web browser interface so you can control it with any tablet, laptop, or smart phone. No need to install an app - very useful at gigs if your main device fails.

On top of all that, I just really like the user interface. Soundcraft has a great demo on their web site - just point your browser at it and you can play with the mixer all day long. Very easy to use while still offering plenty of routing options. In actual use it has been a joy to work with - quick and easy to dial in the sound we want, all my band mates are controlling their own monitor mixes on smartphones, I have less gear to drag, and everyone is happy!

Very useful mixer

By Greg from Indianapolis/Shelbyville area on October 26, 2017 Music Background: 50+years performing musician

The Greg and Tony Show is a duo and we have used the Ui24R for our last couple of gigs. The Ui24R is easy to setup at the gig and we think the sound is superior! It sounds fantastic through our Bose L1 II system. It has more channels than we need right now but it will serve other projects as well. Easily controlled with a tablet or phone thru the built in wi-fi, you can walk into the audience area and dial in levels while the musicians are performing and get a great mix based on what the audience is hearing. You can easily do a 2 channel live recording to a usb stick, or with a little more setup, a multi channel live recording. The files can be imported into your DAW and edited and mixed later. Built in effects and amp models allow me to use electric guitar on one of two switchable (lo- hi impedance) channels without having to lug around a separate guitar amplifier (great feature for aging musicians!) As always, can't say enough about the service and support from Sweetwater!

Great Mixer, Ideal for Live and Recording

By Adam Cave from Santa Rosa, CA on September 5, 2017 Music Background: Rock Music

I purchased this unit for live performance applications, but have found it very flexible to be used in practice sessions and recording live and practice sessions. The idea of a single song sound check and mixing for the performance with the recording is wonderful. Capturing all your settings for different venues and applications is extremely convenient. The preamps are really good. The sound of the preamps are very good. I compared this unit to other preamps and they are great. The wifi access with up to 10 people accessing the unit without an app is also awesome. It's quick to load and very responsive. No snakes to buy people. The unit is solid in its contstruction (I do house it in a gator encloser anyway) and holding steady so far (time will tell). If you're a 4-8 piece band looking for a mixer, this is a great unit with all the features you ever really need for gigging and recording. I'm very happy with the purchase and it's performance.

By Robin Steele from Kentucky on July 24, 2017 Music Background: Experienced Professional Musician

Soundcraft has hit a home-run with this one! I've been using an X-air18 for over a year which does work very well. I wanted a back-up in case of equipment failure and I settled on the Ui24R. I've used it for about 6 gigs in the last month and it is much better than expected. Great browser based interface that works with any device, very clean sound and strong wi-fi. The multi-track and 2 channel USB stick record and playback is amazing and very simple. Our band uses 18 channels during our shows and the unit has recorded every track separately and hasn't missed a beat! I sing lead and backup vocals, acoustic & electric rhythm and keyboards and can still run the sound with an android tablet attached to my mic stand. The interface is very customizable and easy to use. The Ui24R has unlimited channel patching, 8 aux outs and a stereo mix out (all with flawless feedback protection), EQ, gate, compression on every input and output as well as 4 high quality FX mixes. It's worth every penny, so call Matt at (800) 222-4700 ext 1335 and order one! You won't be disappointed!

Amazing Mixer

By Robin Steele from Kentucky on July 19, 2017 Music Background: Experienced Professional Musician

I had been using an Xair 18 for about a year, which was working great, but I thought we needed a backup unit just to be safe. I settled on the Soundcraft Ui24R. This unit has exceeded all of my expectations! WiFi is strong, sound quality is great and the USB playback and record is amazing. We use a minimum of 16 channels for our live shows and it records every channel separately or as a 2 track stereo mix to a USB drive flawlessly. Here are some great features of the Ui24R: 10 XLR/1/4" combo inputs, 10 XLR inputs, 8 Aux, 4 separate FX channels, Gate, compressor, eq, de-ess on every channel, Live and fixed DBX feedback suppression and EQ on every aux out as well as the main L/R. Super user friendly browser based control that will work with any Ipad, PC or android device. Channel routing can be set to any configuration. The Xair 18 is a good unit, but if you can afford a little extra $, the Ui24R is worth every penny! Call Matt Masek at (800)222-4700 ext. 1335 and order one! It will be one of the best purchases you ever make!

The Ui24R Gets It Right

By Darryl Armistead from Chicago on June 4, 2017 Music Background: Pro Musician

The GUI is intuitive and far superior to remote of other digital desks. The Ui24R GUI is available to any device with a browser which includes iOS and Android. If you want to use the internal wifi, I recommend using an app like Airport Express to scan wifi traffic, and then configuring a channel on the GUI that is different from strong signals in the area. Also, I recommend using a larger antenna, i.e. TP-Link.

The viewing options enable easy mixing, where you can choose to display View Groups, Aux's, VCA's, etc. There are many features that you can no longer live without, such as AFS (feedback reduction) on Master and Aux channels, mute groups, multitrack recording, file player, digitech guitar effects, Matrix mixes, Show and snapshots, pedal functions, and the Big Sideout.

I waited until I had done at least 6 shows with the mixer before writing a review. The shows have been flawless.

Less bulk and more functionality

By SoCalJim from SoCal on May 18, 2017 Music Background: Pro

Coming from a background where I would lug a 32 channel mixer, snake, 2 racks of outboard gear and monitors + racks of power amps, this unit is a godsend of functionality in a small rack package with a low weight. I have since retired all the rack gear, mixer, snake, monitors and power amps and have condensed it all into one rack that has far more functionality and options than having all that other gear. Every channel has EQ, compression, effects, and tons more. The pre-amps are high quality Studer design and dbx, Lexicon and DigiTech offer sound processing options galore. Multi-track recording direct to DAW or USB stick and/or stereo recording to USB stick and USB playback are features found in much more expensive gear. USB functionality with a mouse, keyboard + HDMI to a touch screen make it easy to control. No messy apps to always update, the dual wi-fi connectivity allow for any device with an HTML browser to log in and start mixing. dbx AFS2 (feedback suppression) on all monitor outputs keeps unwanted noise under control. There is much, much more under the hood so I would advise downloading the manual from the Soundcraft website if you are interested in this product.

I Love my Ui24R

By Bob from Virginia Beach on May 18, 2017 Music Background: Drummer and part-time sound guy

The multi-track capability is what made this perfect for me. I own the Ui16 and love it but with ability to record live performances, its everything I need in a small, very light package. Sound quality is fantastic, processing is very cool, and the sub groups make this fast and easy to control the mix quickly and effortlessly. Having used an outboard wifi router, I use it on that same router on the 24 and the signal is definitely stronger and faster....

Excellent Interface and Performance

By Rick from Grantsville, WV on May 5, 2017

After using the Ui16 the past two years, I was excited to learn in early 2017 that Soundcraft planned to offer a Ui24, and hoped primarily that it would offer three upgrades to the already stellar Ui16 (besides the increased numbers of inputs and aux-outs): 1 - an internal power supply instead of the external transformer setup utilized in the earlier Ui series (especially susceptible to damage in a cable-intensive mixer environment), 2 - an improved internal WiFi section and antenna array, and 3 - multi-track interfacing and recording. The finished product has all three of those improvements and more.

The interface is intuitive and easy to quickly navigate, and the mixer is extremely quiet while generating tons of headroom.

And, any wireless device with a browser can access the mixer to allow individuals to tailor their own aux-out (which can be linked to form stereo IEM mixes). This is a great plus over other wireless mixers I've seen and used that require proprietary apps that may not be compatible with all types of wireless phones or tablets - and another personal picking point about some other wireless mixers is that they require manual re-setting of each channel's gain knob after transport; no so with the Ui series - gains are all digitally set in the interface and memorized.

For those of you with Ui12 or 16 units considering this unit and wondering if all of your carefully developed and memorized shows/"scenes" can be imported seamlessly into the Ui24, the answer is, yes they can.

This is an absolutely amazing unit for the price, especially when all the features and top-notch internal effects, compression and auto feedback suppression technology are taken into account. Special thanks to Nick Church for his help with this and many other great items through the years.

Great Mixer Great Music Tool

By Perry Middleton from Denton, TX on April 14, 2017 Music Background: 40+years playing music and working with sound systems

I usually don't do reviews of gear. However, I had to say something about this new mixer. I bought this to replace a 16 channel analogue mixer I used for my small bands and projects. I wanted something easier to carry and something that could scale from large to small bands sizes. This mixer out of the box is very easy to set up and attach to (no manual came with it and I was up in 5 minutes which included setup time from my last gig). So, my first quick check of the gear was to use the DigiTech amp modeling (for very lite gigs when I don't want to carry an amp) Channel 1 and 2. EXCELLENT! I prefer real amps but this sounded great and wasn't loaded with a bunch of nonsense presets. I found most the presets actually useful. I plugged up my mic. Okay this is good.. no this is GREAT! Quick easy set up. The compressor, gate, reverb and delay is all you need and so easy to adjust. So my first impression out of the box is why didn't I have this sooner. Very good quality.I may review this mixer futher up the road after I have used and abused this thing but right out of the box very nice. It eliminates so much outboard stuff and weight. Easy setup and lite transport just made my back feel much better. If your looking for a good all round tool I recommend this unit very highly. I can't wait to record with it.

Great Mixer, Although There Are A Few Issues

By Doug from Indiana on October 3, 2023

I have gigged this mixer 2-4 days per week, in all types of environments, for 2 + years and it still works.

22 legit inputs (OK, 2 are RCA/line but these are very useful), 10 AUX outs (if you map the stereo headphone jacks to AUX and use an adapter).

--Most of the negative reviews here seem to be from lack of knowledge, not the mixer itself--

Built-in Wi-Fi sucks. It may work fine at your house, but that's it. You will need an external wireless access point (router, hotspot, whatever you want to call it). You'll need some basic network addressing knowledge. Just Google if you don't know. Assign static IP addresses in the same range. not identical IP addresses. Example; make the wireless access point ("router") 10.10.1.1 and the mixer 10.10.1.2 or similar and the subnet 255.255.255.0.

It can overheat and lock up, shut down, or not start up at all. There is a place to add a 60mm fan and a header. It's a 2-pin so keep in mind when ordering. They're pretty easy to find for a few dollars online. I used a 60mm x 15mm because there's a transformer in the way (a 60 x 25 will not fit, I tried). It's not going to move a lot of air, but it's better than no fan. This helped a lot with overheating.

Wow, what a difference

By Steven Harter from Southern NH on May 10, 2022 Music Background: Gigging musician; 10 years playing experience.

Our band finally made the leap to digital; we chose the Ui24R based on our needs and on the recommendation of our Sweetwater Sales Rep. (Thanks Noah!). We were using a basic analog mixer and, not surprisingly, just couldn't get the quality of sound we were looking for. We just finished our first gig with the Ui24R and WOW!! Several of our regular attendees commented that the quality of sound was astonishing - SIGNIFICANTLY better - and I'm still learning how to use it (I'm the bass player and the "sound guy"). We are a 4-person (2 guitars, bass and drums) cover band and this mixer gives us all we need and more w.r.t. inputs/outputs.

The Ui24R has pretty much all the tools, bells and whistles you'll need. One reason I didn't give it 5 stars is due to the Wi-Fi implementation - it's older technology. So, plan on an external Wi-Fi router and then you can choose the router that suits your needs. Another ding is that there's no cooling fan in the unit although there is a vent that looks intended for one. Since we enclosed the mixer in a rack case, I attached a small USB blower fan to the side vent - it draws air through the can and blows it out the back. Now I don't worry about it overheating in the rack case. (Note: Do not use a Ui24R USB port to power a fan as it probably draws much more than 40mA. I use a separate USB power block for the fan.)

One feature I like is that the user interface is browser-based so no app compatibilities to worry about. As such, I was able to repurpose an old, unused iPad mini 2 as the primary (mobile) UI for gigs. Another big plus is all the Aux outputs: everyone has their own monitor mix (and can control it) so I don't hear, "Can I get more ... in my monitor?" all night. :-)

Keep in mind that a USB thumb drive for playback/record must be formatted Fat32 (vs. ExFAT) so consider the file size limitation (4GB). But that's probably not a concern for the vast majority of users.

Other than the two aforementioned items (Wi-Fi, fan), this mixer ticks all the boxes on our requirements list and performs very well. In my view, this is a feature-rich mixer at this price point - definitely a good value.

Very powerful unit, great replacement for old analog

By Charles Bahm from Gulfport, MS on November 6, 2019 Music Background: 15 years Production engineering

Very powerful. Greatly appreciate the enormous amount of control I have from an iPad. Have used for a months worth of services and only connected to the integrated wireless (under 200 attendees so not a lot of wireless noise) without issue. Pretty steep learning curve if you have never used a parametric EQ but Soundcraft has some pretty good starter templates per channel which went a long way to support it.
The only issue so far is the amp modelers are not particularly good.

Commercial use

By Alain Carranza from Chicago IL on March 19, 2018 Music Background: Engineer

I have some time with this device and working to teach it"s new user base how to use it for their purposes. Have to say sweetwater was great on walking me through a lot of these touch points and was able to work out a lot of the presentable functionality with the. Over all complete positive for commercial use at a large restaurant with a small live venue (think piano bar). I am using this as the central control near the live stage with runs going into the communication room for WIFI and house amplifiers to house speakers. The mains and AUX 5 run the Stage Speakers and subwoofer, the inputs are used from 1-8 being stage instruments and many of the others being used for the 6 TVs routed to the 4 zones of the 16000 square for restaurant.

Here are the big pluses:

1. Live sound applications are completely off the hook, the onboard compression, EG and effects are really well integrated for a live performance and live sound. There are both global and local EQ and levels when using AUXs. So good for taking a live band and mixing them in the house.
2. 24 individual WIFI controls, so as when I need to assign only the bartenders that service the rear bar I can just give them control for volumes in their zones by assignment. Meaning I can give each worker a log in that basically limits them from messing up the whole system. With that in mind there is a password, which is really needed when you have 10+ users.
3. Built in features remove the need for having a dedicated audio computer to record, playback or manage sound.
4. More me and mobile application are awesome "when the work"

What I will say I that hope they fix in later releases. Meaning I think the only problems that this device has it that some of the bugs are not worked out.

1. The directions are not intuitive and neither is the user manual. There needs to be better online tutorials (for beginners I need to train basic used on general functions).
2. They really dropped the ball with not dedicating that second rj45 jack to MADI. I don"t know what the purpose of it actually is, if you plug two different networks into the device it doesn"t bridge them nor does it have an option for it, it"s basically a dead port from what I can figure. the manual says "to be determined" Really dropped the ball, this would have been the coolest thing ever if it could have done it.
3. Smooth out the Integrate the Harmon PA system and allow for a "unique" configuration when you have to use equipment outside of brand. Just think more people would adopt the ethercon PA if the source we not "Harmon PA".
4. It needs to options to rename the tracks and hide tracks that are not being used. Just being able to label AUX 1 to ZONE1 would have save a lot of headache. Setting this up for other users outside of Sound Engineers you need dummy proofing options.
5. A configuration screen is needed for management of the mobile users and what they see, account management. This is totally a pain to figure out, no videos I have seen just kind of poking in the dark until you figure it out by trail and error.
6. There needs to be network configuration connectivity page in the setup and the ability to pull up a webpage in browser to 1) playback streaming music from the internet 2) so you can configure the device and get the firmware update.
7. Allow the WIFI to operate and extend the network when plugged into the network. Why do I have to buy a WIFI entered to sit over this device because I plugged it into a network? If this is possible to configure me and my network engineer have yet to figure it out.

A rack of gear you can carry with 1 hand!

By Greg on December 26, 2017

I was apprehensive having a live mixer without the hardware but not anymore

I have done over 30 recording gigs, live shows...No issues. I REALLY like Not having to keep software or apps or operating systems updated OR having to worry about OS updates bricking my hardware. If you can surf the web with your device, you can control this unit...just that simple!

All my band mates love it too. No racks of equipment or awkward consoles to move or make room for.

Total noob review

By Craig from South Florida on July 14, 2023 Music Background: Mobile dj, forever ago, dipping my toes into pro audio/video to support my customers beyond IT

To reiterate, I am very new to the pro audio space. I've built and support a couple Dante / ndi networks for some of my customers, so I'm learning the other side of it to gain a better understanding of their needs. My Google-fu and tips from a couple of pro audio guys I work with have helped me scratch the surface of all of this and go beyond my old school mobile dj roots. 1st thing, the onboard wifi just shouldn't exist. It's terrible, avoid at all cost. I'm using a wireless router hardwired to my unit. I've had this unit for just over a year and have used it probably about 20 times for rehearsals and a couple of actual shows. I found that even with my own wifi, I did experience some disconnects / "lock ups" during rehearsals before my first actual show requiring hard reboots to get back up and running. After some google-fu, I found some other users said they had this issue and their unit seemed to be over heating. They added a fan to their unit and their trouble went away. I double sided taped a small fan on the side over a vent hole and it seems as though my troubles disappeared as well. Oddly, there is a fan header inside the unit, but I chose the external route to not void warranty. After doing this, it's performed, from what I can tell, exactly as it should. Powers up and chugs along with no disconnects and no complaints. Only using about half of the inputs, so maybe I'm just getting lucky. trying to get one of my friends to put it through its paces by using more inputs and dynamics than I do, mostly because I'm curious if it will still behave. The interface on it seems fairly intuitive / simple. If a super nooby like me can make it work, can't be too complicated. Of course, the hard part of mixing is making things sound good. Part of me likes that it's a web page to control it so I don't have to deal with app issues like some other mixers I've read about, another part of me wonders what happens when web browsers stop supporting the standards it uses. All in all, I think it's very good and has been as reliable as it can be in my limited use. If you skip the wifi and strap a fan to the side, i think it should treat you well, assuming it meets your needs in the first place.

Great mixer - Steep learning curve

By Michael Lewis from Ca on June 2, 2020 Music Background: Tech director

I'm the tech director at my church, and i bought this mixer right at the beginning of the quarantine in anticipation of having to record our worship teams. It was quite a challenge to get it up and running at first, as the ecosystem is quite different than a traditional digital mixer with faders and physical buttons. Connecting a computer to the ethernet port was particularly challenging, seeing as I'm not an IT guy.
The manual was pretty helpful, but I did need some help from the UI24R facebook group a couple of times. I had to do 2 full resets, once after I set a password for the WiFi and the machine forgot it and locked me out, and another time when I had no input audio for no apparent reason.

Once I got it set up and running, I saved a couple of snapshots for our recording sessions and it has performed flawlessly ever since! I love the fact that I can monitor all my incoming signals from the mixer itself without affecting what's going into the daw. I'm able to provide a monitor mix for the musicians that I can control from an ipad and dial in from stage, while still having a hard line connection to my laptop.

This beats an Audio interface like a red-headed stepchild! It has all the flexibility of a feature packed digital mixer, with wireless mixing and pristine audio recording capabilities to boot! This was a purchase that has paid off big time. I would highly recommend it.

Immense power and features for club bands

By Gordon from Massachusetts on January 6, 2019 Music Background: performer/sound guy

I'm late to the USB mixer game, but the Ui24 is a very satisfying product. The sound quality is excellent, the multiple monitor mixes is a big plus, and for bands that don't have a sound man, being able to "walk around" is huge. The preamps have a lot of gain, so depending on your previous mixer, start low and work up. The feedback suppression really works, and I've only just played with the fixed version of that. Like any software product, it's much deeper featured than most people will ever use, but read the manual and spend some time with it. Cons? The interface on my iPad gets wonky now and again, does not completely refresh, which is a little scary at gigs. Also, navigating individual channel EQ is not totally intuitive. Overall though, it's a great product and once you are up the learning curve (maybe 3 gigs plus some pre-gig testing) you'll wonder why you did not switch sooner.

The Devil Is In The Details

By Sweetwater Customer from Upstate NY on November 25, 2022 Music Background: 20 years as a music teacher and musician

Purely from a conceptual standpoint, this mixer is absolutely fantastic. Also, this mixer does deliver on the main things it needs to deliver on. It seems well-built, the sound quality is very good, preamps have plenty of gain, on-board effects sound good, and the website through which the mixer is controlled has a very intuitive design and is easy to navigate and use in a live setting. Also, I love that virtually any device can control it without issue, and they even took into consideration different screen sizes for say a phone vs. a tablet or laptop.

So why isn't it 5 stars? Because if you plan to connect to this thing via any method OTHER than the built-in wireless, then the setup of this thing is nothing short of nightmarish. Did it eventually work as intended? Yes. However, if you are going to give your mixer the ability to connect to a wireless router (or as they say, a "hotspot", which is just NOT the term used by the vast majority of people in the US), and you are going to end up needing to change said mixer's IP address to a static IP that is identical to your wireless router, THEN THAT NEEDS TO BE SPELLED OUT IN EXPLICIT DETAIL. If you plan to connect with a wired connection via an ethernet cable, you have to set both the mixer AND your laptop to the same static IP. I'm sorry, but the average person isn't going to realize this without VERY GOOD INSTRUCTIONS. In the network settings of the mixer, it literally has a designation for "hotspot" "wi-fi", and "LAN". It took me about 2 hours to definitively realize that "wi-fi" was the internal wi-fi of the mixer.

If you are wondering why it took so long, it's because if you choose to disable any of the connection options...then you can't connect to the mixer via that method unless you have a second, alternative method of connection. Basically, if you muck up the network settings bad enough, you can actually lock yourself out of the mixer and have NO WAY of getting in unless you do a full factory reset. We learned how to make all of this work via a random YouTube video that was produced by a person who owned the product, NOT by Soundcraft. Their videos were next to useless.

TLDR; it's a great mixer, and a great overall concept for a digital mixer. The execution of certain elements is subpar, and setup for actually connecting is the least intuitive thing in our solar system.

Wonderful Unit, But Not Really 24 Channels

By Todd Johnson from Hacienda Heights, CA on October 24, 2018

This unit does everything it's supposed to do and more. It's a quality unit that permits you to record 2 track or multitrack, send to 10 mono in-ears or 5 stereo in-ears systems. All the EQ's, effects, gates, compressors, limiters, etc. you could want. So, it's really a great unit, but don't buy it thinking you'll have 24 mic inputs. It only comes with 20. They count an RCA line in as 2 channels and a digital tape in as the other 2. Also, the Hot Spots doesn't work very well, so you'll want to use your own separate hot spot. Finally, the manual is fairly pathetic. The good news is that their telephone support is spectacular. If you need any tech support, they really go out of their way to get you to where you want to go!

sensitive little thing

By Shane on January 6, 2022

this mixer has excellent preamps, effects are decent and the size is wonderful.Love all the I/O also.

problem is they don't warn you that it has no fan yet has heat issues, the wifi is horrible, and there are all these little quirks like you can't plug this or that into the USB and only turn it on after this many seconds and never power on or off with USB plugged in and probably a lot more things that I don't know yet and won't until it fails again. We've had ours warrantied once already in the two years we've had it and it needs repair again.

Powerful rack console but has some issues.

By Sam Costa from Brentwood Ca on November 24, 2021 Music Background: Audio engineer

Been a live engineer for over 25 years, loved the analog consoles, but like many others it was time to transition to digital. I have several Midas MR18's rack consoles, X32 full console, M32C, Behringer XR12. All of which are super reliable.
I then purchased a Ui24 for the added mix outs and inputs. My Ui24 worked well for a while but the past year of shows it would have issues with loosing power and having to "reconnect". No, this has nothing to do with Wifi as my external router was always working. I would loose all FOH audio for up to 10 seconds then it would reappear?!?! I performed MANY different scenarios and trouble shooting with different power sources and nothing would help. I feel it has an issue with it's internal power supply or motherboard. Several other Ui24 users have had this problem and there doesn't seem to be a fix. On the same rack as my Ui24 are 4 wireless IEM's and 4 Wireless handheld mics all of which are plugged into my power conditioner, those IEM's and mics never loose power but the Ui24 has, 6 times to be exact in the middle of shows this year alone. To me, that's unacceptable! Any of my other digital rack mixers NEVER had this problem using the same setup of power conditioner, ipad, external router. Needless to say, I'm transitioning everything over to a M32C and Midas DL23 stagebox and selling the Ui24. It's a good unit but not at the expense of the artists/bands and audience looking at me wondering "what just happened?" when the brown outs occur.

Not very reliable

I bought my mixer in 2017. I was very happy with it. But a couple of weeks ago something happened and the unit no longer works the same. It has a very light use. It has been in my home studio and has been used for rehearsal only. I am going to have it fixed just to sell it, because it is no longer reliable to me.

Great and not so great

By Tom K from Maui on July 10, 2019

This is a great sounding unit when the WiFi works. Configuring the ethernet is a real hassle as it is very poorly designed almost like they added it as a afterthought. It"s a crying shame because the clarity of sound is excellent. The effects are better than what most would expect. The only reason I"m giving it a low rating is that it could have been a awesome user friendly tool for musicians instead soundcraft got cheap on the WiFi and ethernet and their tutorials are useless unless you already know what the tutor is speaking about. If your a real sharp tech type then this tool is for you.

Do not purchase this if your main operating system is a MAC! just awful. We have spent weeks trying to reset the password!!! This is not an easy challenge to deal with. We tried, and tried, until tech finally admitted we cannot use our mac with the USB stick to reset the password. I had to go and find a PC to use and still no go with something that should be VERY SIMPLE, resetting a password, and updating. Also, there are THREE passwords, none of this is clearly stated until you dig for it.

the manual is confusing!!

The password issue is a major problem, it is not easy to deal with at all!! I think the lack of an app is part of the problem. I am sending this back after two weeks of trouble shooting!!!

Died after 5 to 6 years

By Dana Harris on August 17, 2023 Music Background: Played in performing bands plus audio work & recorded for over 40 years.

Had the UI24R for 5 to 6 years, Purchased from a different vendor but they wouldn't post my review.
It is a feature rich unit & when it functioned it was great aside from a few bugs that it had.
The URL interface is great, something all companies should adopt, & it sounded as good as any & better than some.
Used only in a climate controlled studio & powered from a Furman balanced power supply.
Was mounted in a rack with space above & below as per instructions for ventilation but the unit itself still got very hot all the time. Clearly they need a fan & possibly heat sinks inside & I suspect that heat may have been a contributing factor in the death of the unit.
Tried using one of the Soundcraft recommended touchscreens on the HDMI port but the screen would randomly whiteout rendering the mixer uncontrollable for a time as it would recover on it's own. So I had to connect the screen to my PC & control the mixer via network anyway, so the HDMI was a complete fail. By the way this is a known problem with no apparent fix.
The player would randomly lockup & be grayed out with no function, reboot was the only work around, also a known problem with no apparent fix. I myself had tech support on the phone over the player issue right after I purchased the unit & he reproduced the problem first hand on a test unit that he was using. To my knowledge they never fixed this issue which is likely simply software related.
The hot-spot & WI-FI is unreliable & can't be used because when turned on it causes the unit to crash & become unresponsive with a connecting message displayed & again a reboot is the only work around, also a known problem with no apparent fix other than to turn off the hot-spot & WI-FI.
Recently the unit started producing noise after a fresh power on, reboot seemed to solve the problem. Also it seemed as though saved shows had become partially corrupt. When I tried to export the shows to test on a friend's UI24 I discovered that the USB ports were in a state of malfunction. The play & record ports would not simultaneously recognize the presence of the devices as they should. Upon attempting a factory reset in hopes that perhaps the firmware had just become corrupt & might be corrected with a reset the unit became a brick. Green led lights flash continuously with no complete boot, unit is completely nonfunctional now. Read forums to find others with similar situations.
Emailed Soundcraft tech support & was told the unit needs sent for repair. Asked & was told they have a $ flat fee which include return shipping.
The confidence a company has in their products is firmly reflected by how long the warranty is. The warranty on these units is only 3 years. Soundcraft has seemingly produced mostly quality equipment so I put my trust in that which looks like a mistake now.
I'll send for repair & see what happens. In the end I expect a double down situation when the repaired unit, or what ever they send back because often these companies simply send you some other refurbished unit that wasn't the one you had to begin with, ends up in the same deceased state. Next time I'll go far out of my way to insure purchase of something with a known good & long track record plus longer warranty. It's to bad that the UI series units are built so cheaply because minus the ridiculous bugs & short lifespan they would be one of the very best digital rack-mount mixers made. I doubt I'll ever even look at any Soundcraft products again. For me it's been a frustrating waste of time & money.

Bush-league

I've owned two in the last year and a half. In the same time, my bandmates have owned 2 or 3 more. All of these units, each and every one, randomly reboots. Mid-set, the system shuts down. It takes about 30 seconds for a reboot to occur. I'd call it unreliable gear, but that's not accurate. You can reliably predict that this unit will fail.
Bottom line: Soundcraft Ui 24 has issues. If you're ok with losing your entire PA randomly pretty much every show, then drop the grand or so for this unit. It's pretty easy to use and has a lot of potential. If you want gear that actually works, look elsewhere.

Soundcraft Ui Console - Constantly gives Connection Error and Muted Audio During a Performance while the Console Rebooted

By MixMasterMuth from Ashfield, MA on March 15, 2023 Music Background: Audio Engineer & Production Manager

On the very first concert that I used the Soundcraft Ui24 system, the primary web-browser interface, connected via a hard-wired ethernet line to the mixer, would constantly lose connection. All mixing and control capabilities were lost during the performance. An iPad connected to the network via wifi also regularly lost connection. This is unacceptable. I constantly received connection errors throughout the concert, causing seconds-long interruptions, while mixing on a dedicated MacBook connected via hardwired ethernet, running an up-to-date version of Google Chrome.

Even worse than regularly losing control of your mix, is that half-way through the performance, the console completely muted ALL outputs - stage monitors and mains, while the system presumably rebooted, which took about 15 to 20 seconds - an eternity, when the band's sound engineer is looking to you to resolve the problem. The console did regain connection and restored audio all on it's own, without any power-cycling, which is almost worse, because there was no obvious cause or fix to the problem. This console is glitchy, and not ready to be on the market. Stay far, far away.

Not recommended for live use

My church purchased one of these units. Sounds good and is flexible but keeps loosing connection with no way of running it manually especially when you are in the middle of a service. Yes you can reset the network but that requires you to power the unit down.

This Mixer Is Terrible

By Eric on March 11, 2020 Music Background: Pro Audio Engineer/Bandleader

I have had this mixer for a couple years now. I want to love it so badly. It drops wireless signal constantly. Soundcraft recommended a separate router. I bought the separate router. It was even worse than the built in wireless capability. I was told to update the firmware. I updated it. It dropped even more consistently. When this mixer works, it is my dream come true. It has great effects. The pre's sound good. The list goes on. If my engineer can't mix with it, It is a very expensive brick. Dear Soundcraft, I used to love you but my heart is yearning for Behringer products. (I never thought I would say that). I think we may have to break up. I loved my old analogue Soundcraft but you took a swing in the digital world and missed completely. RIP UI24R

First of all the WiFi totally sucks, had to buy a router to use the mixer! On our 6th gig the WIFI died!WTF...back to the RD dept! Secondly there are no directions for this mixer, if any! they are not cohesive whatsoever. Not sure why this unit is on the market, clearly this Company is going downhill. Trust me, do not purchase this P.O.S! They won"t even acknowledged a warranty for the $1000.00 I spent to repair the WiFi. Not sure why the other music vendors trust this equipment for resale. FYI. I am not complaining to Sweetwater re: this mixer, it"s just unfortunate that I had to use them as conduit for other musicians to look for an alternative in mixers.

Don't buy this

The lack of a customized app just makes its software untrustworthy, slow and troublesome. I had an issue while trying to turn up the gain of a channel. It happens that when you switch from volume to gain control, the faders for gain control do not show channel names, and worst part is, they do not appear in the same position as the volume faders are, so you can get easily confused by moving a different channel's gain.
