Works great!
I needed tech support through Audio PC but the device works fine. As always, Rob Amaral is the best at getting me the perfect solution for all my musical needs
Works Perfectly!
I'm using this to connect my "older" Roland E-Kit to my "brand new" laptop. My older Roland drum module did not have USB out (only midi). So, I needed an adaptor to go from midi to USB on my laptop. BUT...before this adaptor will work, you HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE DRIVER/s FOR THE UM-ONE MK2 from the Roland website onto your computer/laptop. That took a little time, but once I found what I needed, the software on my laptop found it, and the two units are now communicating.
Works well!
I bought this to update my Liven Lofi 12 using sysex. Worked great! I also use it to connect SYNTHS to my PC. Works great! Always good quality with Roland. There is a reason they've been in business as long as they have. Expensive but Sweetwater financing makes it possible.
Roland UM-ONE mk2 USB MIDI Interface
I purchased one of these in 2020 to connect my old 1990s Casio CTK-530 keyboard to my iMac computer. That was my first time interfacing a MIDI device to a computer. It initially took a bit to get it to work, mostly due to lack of knowledge. Since then, I now own three of them in my arsenal of cables and interfaces.
I have used the UM-ONE with the Casio CTK-530, Arturia MiniLab, Arturia Key Step 37, ASM Hydrasynth 49-Key, Moog Matriarch, and Roland Jupiter-X. Each of those have been interfaced with a Macbook Pro (2017 vintage) and Windows 10 Desktop computer.
Note: I have connected directly to the Win machine; I have not tried to use the UM-ONE through a USB hub. I have also used UM-ONE with the Macbook Pro with success. I have not tested for latency, but I have not noticed any either.
Just works
Recently acquired an earlier model keyboard that is great in most ways but no USB out. Didn't want to buy a recording interface with MIDI ins, already have a good interface with no MIDI ins, so took a chance on this cable. I am not super tech minded but was able to get things hooked up and synced up no sweat. Works great, can use this keyboard to run my DAW and drive those great keyboard VST's we all love. Inexpensive solution that just works.
Does what it says
What more can I say!!
Roland UM-One USB MIDI Interface
Great product and worth the price. Just plug and play without any driver downloads.
Flawless.
Works exactly as designed, flawless. Just as all Roland products, I expect this best and Roland scores every time!
Truth in advertising
Happy to report this connection works as promised, though one must keep in mind that everything must be plugged in, before plugging an adapter into your iPhone or it doesn't register. Yes you can control virtual instruments on garage band with this adapter without using the software disc included which is for PC connections.
generic midi cable didn't work with my new pc, this one did.
I had a generic midi cable (black rounded interface, silver usb / midi cables) and it worked great.
Then I got another one. It worked with other PCs, Ipad, etc, but not my main computer.
I wasted a lot of time trying to get it to work, tweaking registry entries, and nothing helped, so I got this cable.
This cable has it's own drivers, and works great.
Roland UM-ONE mk2 and Customer Service
I needed to reload the factory data on my friends U-20 and it was recommended to use a quality interface cable. I had my concerns trying to do the download on an old keyboard with a new laptop. But after the interface cable downloaded its drivers automatically on my laptop, and I then downloaded MIDI-OX and the hex files for the U-20, and with a few clicks on the laptop and the keyboard, the deed was done! Thanks for your support! Even though everything went well (no glitches) and I didn't need you for troubleshooting, it's good to know you guys are there to help. And to Sweetwater for having the quality interface cable I needed.
Gus
It works!
Finally, I got one that works with the Roland D-50. I was able to download and upload sound banks.
How sweet it is
In the very 1st moments of my purchase I was kindly greeted and had a talk about my musical likes.
With this info and great conversation we began to find the best yet cost effective product for my needs.
It seemed everyone had good Ideas and great info to help me get the job done for my needs.
I'm glad I choose Sweetwater. They make me feel like we're in the same group helping to achieve each others golds
Works great!
This Roland midi adapter let me use my old Korg M50 synth as a midi controller for GarageBand on iPad (using an Apple camera adapter as a go between). Plug and play!!
Works as expected
I tried some cheaper options and had issues. This adapter works exactly as anticipated - all notes get through. Curiously the "MIDI IN" light is constantly blinking as if there is some kind of noise on the input but the notes all make it through as expected.
A needed simple MIDI Connection.
It was a needed connection when I was faced with configuring 2 keyboard Synthesizers that use MIDI and no USB, to connect to a DAW on my computer.
Thank you Sweetwater for your help with this.
Sincerely Ed
Does the job, buying another
I have had this cable for a little less than a year so far and it performs better than I expected for usb. I needed something to help my old Yamaha Portable Grand communicate with an interface that has no MIDI ins. Drivers were no trouble, and pretty much immediately I was using my keyboard to control virtual instruments in Cubase. I didn't give a second thought to the latency because I haven't noticed ANY. I'm about to pick up a second one to add an Alesis drum kit to the studio.
Works Well
I have to say in the beginning I was very frustrated until I called Sweetwater and their technician Dylan really helped me. He was able to get this to work. I was not able to do it on my own, it's not plug and play as I had hoped, however now that it's up and running, it's great. I'm using it with Studio One Artist and an old Korg 707. It does exactly what I hoped it would do.
Just plug in and play for me.
For my application, the most complicated procedure was opening up the packaging. Great issue solver, does the job, the little indicator lamps nice for function conformation!
Flawless Operation
I had a need to transfer music from Tascam digital tape to hard disk. I had several sessions with twenty-four tracks and only one eight track machine so I could only transfer 8 tracks at a time. The Tascam recorder has a MIDI out so I was able to sync up the tapes on MIDI time code using this Roland interface.
Tascam DA-78HR -> Yamaha 01V96 TDIF to Apogee ADAT into Cubase Pro 11 and all synced up with the Roland on MIDI time code.
This is a great MIDI interface. Easy to install. Flawless operation. Now I want to try it with my old Yamaha keyboard that only has MIDI out as it predated USB.
Sweetwater Yes...Avid? not so much....
Dylan and Jake have been amazing. Just great service and tech support!
5 star service, 5 star product
I have a Yamaha Disklavier piano that I bought used, and I have just recently gotten it working again. This was the last piece of hardware I needed to restore it to its former glory. I called sweetwater before the purchase to determine what would work best for my needs since there are a large number of USB-MIDI products. They could have tried to upsell me with something more expensive than I needed, but they helped me find the most inexpensive product that would work, and they were able to explain why I should get this one instead of another item. The thing works, and I am happy!
They work
I needed a MIDI interface to update my Strymon pedals. This was recommended and worked great.
Quality build; works well
This converter works well with my setup, connecting a MIDI keyboard to a MacBook.
Physical aspects:
The casing of this device is made from sturdy plastic — not fancy, but not flimsy either. The little switch between tablet and computer ("TAB" /"COMP") is tiny and completely recessed. If you need to switch it frequently, keep in mind that you'll need a pen or a pin handy.
Drivers:
It worked only after I downloaded and installed Roland drivers, and then restarted the computer. With the driver also came utilities to test and uninstall drivers — and all of it under a megabyte (that's very tiny)! Once installed, the device shows up as Roland UM-ONE in the macOS Audio MIDI Setup > MIDI Studio, and similarly in Reaper. No apps, nor background services or daemons appear to be running and using up resources, so that's very good.
Device support:
My MIDI chain is: Yamaha S80 keyboard > Roland UM-ONE > USB 3 hub > USB-C dongle > MacBook 2016 > macOS Catalina > Reaper.
In addition to playing, the mod wheel and knobs work as expected.
In its price range, this device is great. I would buy it again and also recommend it.
Short n Sweet
This lil guy works well for me, on Strymon pedals, ES-8, and whatever I decide needs a Midi connection.
Works
Works fine so I can use a Yamaha DD75 as a midi controller in Ableton Live.
Excellent product and tech support
Being a complete amateur, I could not get my Apple GarageBand software to receive the MIDI information (piano key strokes) from my electric piano. So I called customer support and with the help from Sweetwater we finally figured out that I had the wrong setting on my piano. I felt pretty dumb. However, the Sweetwater tech was very patient with me as he tried one thing after the other to remedy the problem. By doing so, I learned a lot too. What other company provides this kind of free support? No one. Thank you Sweetwater. I will be back. There are a few more things I will be buying soon.
Does What It Says-Easy Setup
I bought this for connecting my old keyboard to my DAW for using Virtual Instruments.
I installed the driver from the included CD, followed some basic instructions and in a few short minutes I was in business. Latency does not seem to be an issue and the Interface appears to be the type of high quality I would expect from Roland.
It was a good purchase and saved me money over the purchase of a keyboard controller.
Plug and Play
This cord was incredibly easy to connect a 30 year old keyboard synthesizer to my brand new 2020 MacBook Pro. The drivers were easy to install and it worked with a non-Roland branded keyboard. Midi connection works great.
Install Instructions for Windows 10
I gave it five stars because it works, and what caused me some trouble turned out to be an improvement. The set up instructions have not been updated for Windows 10. Just plug it in with an internet connection and ignore the CD. The instructions explicitly warn you against doing this, but I eventually found out deep in Roland's FAQs that it is plug and play for Windows 10. This is great, but I wasted some time trying to manually install the driver from the CD. It will not work on Windows 10 with the packaged driver.
Works Great!
No muss, no fuss. Does what it is mean to do.
UM-ONE Mk2 worked like a charm
I have an old but much loved Roland Fantom X6 I have been wanting to resurrect to use as a midi controller with Ableton. Roland discontinued USB driver support for the X6 a while ago, so my awesome Sweetwater sales rep recommended the UM-ONE as a possible solution.
It did take a little bit of setup to get it to work on my MacBook Pro. Once I found the correct driver from Roland, did a little bit of Midi routing on my Mac per the instructions, this little guy worked flawlessly. My DAW recognized the Fantom without any additional setup and I was back to creating music with my old friend Fantom X6. I have not noticed any latency issues and it can even communicate sysex.
The UM-ONE mk2 is totally worth every penny spent if you have an old piece of midi equipment that you want to resurrect and include in your modern music production rig. Thanks Sweetwater for another awesome solution!
Stable connection
Fixed my issues programming my Strymon BigSky pedal. If you use Nixie, this is the interface for you. Works really well with my Boss ES-8 and Boss 500-series pedals.
Works fine, very affordable
The UM-ONE works fine. I had another brand that failed.
My Line 6 M9 has been revived!
I can backup and restore settings via SysEx Librarian easily now.
Being in multiple bands/projects, this really helps.
Kudos to my awesome salesman, James Masterson!
Great!
Pricey, but well worth it after I dealt with the headache of buying cheap USB-MIDI knock-offs on Amazon. This actually came with information and drivers, which is highly essential for functionality.
It's obviously more expensive than the crappy $10 interface on Amazon, but if you want to save yourself the headache and the hassle, this is worth the purchase. Using it to connect a Behringer FCB1010 to Ableton on my computer.
I plugged it in. It works. Boom
I did what it said to do. It works. I’m happy.
No driver needed for Mac
This MIDI interface works great. Like an earlier reviewer, I found that it works fine with my Mac with the tab/comp switch set to tab(let) and no driver installed. This is with a Late 2015 iMac running Mojave. This is better than the documentation says it is, which is nice.
It works
Since 4 of my vintage synthesizers they don't have the USB port and I have tried 2 other kinds of interface but none of them works.
Although compared with others this Roland one cost a little bit more but it works.
Hey, it's Roland!
This is simple to use and pretty much guitar player proof. Works well and packs up nicely. Combine that with the Sweetwater experience and you won't lose any sleep.
It does what it suppose to do
I spoke with sale rep, I believe it was Greg, and explained to him I wanted to update the OS for an Sp808
,and ask if this interface would work. He even email me a sweet water article on how to update my old sampler. I installed the driver disc to window 7 pc and transfer files for new OS, and it worked perfectly. The only problem was that Sp808 would not receive files at first, but read somewhere that if you exchange the midi out cable with the in cable would fix this. Once I figured that out, my unit was updated. I would totally recommend this product if you're looking for an affordable good quality midi interface.
Headphones and cables
We actually are sending these to Zimbabwe to help with a music school there so they haven"t been used yet. Appreciate working with Taylor to be our go to person for all of our purchases.
No midi blues now - Roland UM-ONE mk2
This midi interface works well, but I was more impressed with the technical service from Sweetwater. The driver that was included with this device on the enclosed cd did not work with my IOS, but the Sweetwater tech was really helpful getting me up and running.
Works Great
Not much else to say. No issues
Good Interface
You have a good product. Now I can use my Finale and use my keyboard to input my music. God bless you.
Roland UM One MK2
Very simple to use. Works just as it should.
Works!
Super Simple, Just load the drivers from the included CD and your good to go!!
Good on PC
Does exactly what it claims to do with minimal fuss. I needed a simple way to connect my laptop to my rack effect so that I could automate the rack effect via Reaper DAW. Worked perfectly. Tested on Windows 7 and 10.
User friendly
Excellent. Easy to use
All I needed
I could not get MIDI to work on my new Cubase problem. I built the recording PC about 10 years ago and had no problems with Cubase LE that came with my sound card. The situation frustrated me for weeks changing every setting in Cubase and in the PC to make MIDI work properly through the E-MU sound card. A friend suggested upgrading my entire system but that will take a while so I bought this MIDI to USB cable to bypass my sound card and it worked immediately.
Roland UM-ONE USB MIDI Interface
Works well with Windows 10. Data is flowing and device is working great! I figured if I went with Roland device it would work like it is suppose to and it does. Works for me!
Works Great!
We were having trouble making our older Roland Fantoms work with a Mac using MainStage 3 since Roland no longer supports drivers for the Fantoms. By using the UM-One cable, you can run out of the keyboard using MIDI and do not need drivers (for the Fantom you have to change from Internal to External in Single mode to get the midi data to transfer to a computer). After I figured that out, everything has worked great.
Roland UM-ONE
Totally plug n play. Windows 8.1 tablet made friends immediately. No trouble installing drivers. Worked first time and has worked flawlessly since.
Midi to USB interface
Works perfectly as described in the catalog. This is the second one I've bought to use in different DAW setups, and I have no complaints. I gave it 5 stars, but to be honest there's NO USB to midi interface that would "blow me away". But having said that, I would highly recommend this piece of gear; it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Roland UN-ONE
Works great for my kurzweil's
Returning an item
Like I said in my earlier review of the Roland UMN-OME interface and why I was not able to
use it with my piano, the tech help was great. I am now working hard. But I also have to
give Jeffrey lots of credit for immediately telling me I could return the item. So I did. It was
easy as pie as they say here. And the day they received my return my credit card was
reimbursed.
Ever since I first called Sweetwater way back in January 2014 and first talked to Jeffrey,
the only feeling I have ever gotten from everyone is that making it possible for everyone
to make music is the goal. And that goal has been met time and time again for me.
I want to thank Sweet water for helping me through all the hurrdles.
Roland 1x1 USB Midi Interface---
I ordered this shortly after I got my Roland Supernatural DP 90 Se piano. And like all of my smaller orders over the next week and a half, this item arrived pronto.
But I cannot use it with the DP 90 Se piano ---the piano uses a different cable connection to a computer-the A-B cable.
When I went to connect the computer to the piano, I realized that I had the wrong cable. I wished in some ways that I had asked Jeffrey Green which cable I would need. But now I realize that the freedom to make mistakes---as long as they do not cost much is a start to some good learning. And I appreciate
Jeffrey giving me the space to figure things out for myself as much as possible. Jeffrey doing this for me is
also helping me become a better teacher to my piano students.
But last Saturday when I set out to set up the connection between my piano and my computer, I realized that I needed some help. So I called tech support. Looking back on this experience, I have to say one great characteristic of Sweetwater is a sense of humor. I had no idea what the name ---meaning type of cable that I had in my hands. I could hear Andrew chuckle a bit when I described the part that should be
connecting to my piano. I was laughing a bit myself. He calmly said---let me look at the manual for the piano and see what cable you need. That took less than five minutes. He then told me I needed a simple A-B cable to connect to the piano and that I could get one from an electrical store.
I checked that afternoon on Office Max here in Norfolk and they had one. I ordered the Belkin A-B cable and got it Thursday. I got my piano hooked up and opened Finale. Using the Hyperscribe setting I played the piano to record a few measures. But when I went to listen to the music I had just recorded there was no sound. I was stumped again. So after trying several things I called tech support again.
This time the tech person-I think it was Eric---connected to my computer. In the five minutes or so that he was checking out the sound and its volume on my computer I learned more about how a computer produces sound than I have from the three books I got on recording. It was not really that complicated when I look back on how we got the music to play back but if you are a newbie to computers and recording it would have take a long time for me to figure all that out. And since Eric went to slowly enough I was able to write down what needed to be adjusted so that if my computer ever crashes and I need to re-install my programs I will know what to do.
I am going to keep the Roland Um_One because I think that this interface may be useful later on in my work. I also went into some detail about my struggles to get my computer recording music and being able to play it back because this experience really helped me realized that Sweetwater staff are great teachers and that I am not only getting my music studio set-up and going-I am also learning how to be a good teacher. I have also started searching through the wonderful glossary that your site has. It will make a great resource when I get to the point of teaching my students recording. It is also a great resource for me as I keep expanding my music studio. And if I get stuck on something I know that help will be just a phone call away
Excellent Product!
I bought this device to update my older Strymon Timeline. I have a Windows 10 Computer and the software installed easily. Using the Strymon Librarian tool (free from the Strymon website) I had the firmware updated in about a minute. I used it to check the new Mobius and Big Sky and all was good with those machines. This interface worked as advertised with no glitches or hiccups. As always, Sweetwater delivery was fast, and I always look forward to getting candy!
Review
Works perfectely and easy installation. I recommend everybody to buy Roland UM-ONE Midi Interface. The company also has my 5 stars. Excellent support before and after. Thanks Sweetwater.
Perfect
We first used the mio and that gave us lots of errors, we decided to give this one a try and it's been working flawlessly with no problems! If you have a Roland keyboard we have the fantom g8, purchase this to get connected.
Simple and functional
If you only need one MIDI in and one MIDI out, this thing will do the job nicely. Less MIDI lag than the similar configuration EMU offers, works well with Win 7 Pro.
UM-ONE Works with Windows 10
My old Roland Um-1 did not work with Windows 10 - computer did not even recognize it. I sent an inquiry to Sweetwater, they answered very promptly, and I got the UM-ONE, which worked right out of the box with no issues. (I was connecting my old electronic keyboard to the computer to record music using Noteworthy Composer. No issues there, either.)
Great service.
Roland UM-ONE
Works perfectly with windows seven.....the other brand didn't
Works great
I have a Roland TD 8 I needed to connect to Sonar for recording drum tracks, the MIDI converter I bought at guitar center would not connect. This Roland worked the 1st try. Thank you Sweetwater for the great product and price.
Great little device
Very quick and easy to set up. No complaints
Undocumented Surprise
This unit has a COMPuter/TABlet switch, with the instruction to use the COMP setting with a Mac/PC after installing the driver and the TAB setting with a powered USB hub and a compatible iPad. I first connected the UM-ONE to my iPad Air via the Apple Camera adapter and a powered USB hub, and all was well.
Then, without thinking, I plugged the USB hub (with the UM-ONE still attached) into my MacBook Pro (running Yosemite) without having installed the driver. The OS recognized it just fine! I tested it while bypassing the USB hub, and it still worked. The UM-ONE would NOT recognize the USB connection to the MacBook while in COMP mode (and without a driver).
I was wanting a 1x1 interface that I wouldn't have to install drivers for, but I bought this anyway...and I got what I wanted unexpectedly--at least for simple operations. Time will tell with more complex signal-sending.
Works!
Finding a simple USB to MIDI interface that actually works as it should with Windows 8.1 x64 is a big deal.
'Nuff said.
UM-ONE MKII Works Great With iPad
I bought this to use with my iPad mini with lightning connector, to liberate the Animoog app from the confines of the iPad.
I was frightened at first when taking the UM-ONE MKII out of the package and looking over the instruction sheet which says to connect it to a powered usb hub and connect that to the iPad.
I decided to try it out anyway and, lo and behold, it worked flawlessly, plug and play. You do need the Apple camera connection kit to connect it to the iPad as the usb side of the UM-ONE MKII is just a standard USB plug.
I can't vouch for all models of the iPad, but it works fine with the iPad mini with lightning connector.
There is no notable latency that I could perceive. I connected the midi plugs to the midi in/out connectors on a Roland TR-8 drum machine which is connected via usb to Ableton Live. I was able to play and sequence the synths on the iPad using Ableton Push. Just what I needed to get those amazing Animoog sounds out of the iPad and get hands on control with a proper midi controller.
I'm sure it will work just fine with a midi keyboard as the controller as well.
The UM-ONE was just ehat i was looking for.
I had been looking for some time for a Midi cable to use to upload presets onto an older multi-effect processor I had and my Sweetwater sales engineer recommended this one. I must say I really like it. It was really easy to use and it works with both my Mac and my PC. I recommend it to anyone looking for a midi cable.
Roland UM-ONE
Works perfectly. Really like the LED's that show if the USB connection is good and each time there is a MIDI IN or OUT signal. This is great for trouble shooting MIDI problems. Highly recommend and would buy it again. Sweetwater is the best dealer - hands down!
THANK YOU ROLAND
I bought a synthesizer from here and hooked it up via MIDI to Logic and it was acting so weird. Notes were randomly playing when i tweaked the parameters, notes wouldnt play back at the same time, sysex messages not sending etc. etc. At first I thought I didn't hook it up right. I contacted sweetwater about it and even though they never got back to me about it I decided to take my chances and buy this and right now everything is working just how it's supposed to. Don't go cheap with the ebay MIDI to USB's!!!!
Solved my control surface problems!
I use 1 Mackie MCU Pro and 3 extenders with a Windows PC. I was never able to get all 4 surfaces to work with Pro Tools without causing all kinds of issues - PT crashes, the surfaces going "blinky light crazy", and PT refusing to reopen.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and PT11, and I was hoping these issues would go away. Unfortunately not. I've always run the 3 extenders to the MCU Pro, and then a USB cable to my PC.
I wondered if that much data was messing with the USB connection. It shouldn't, as the baud rate of MIDI is very slow. However , the USB connection from the MCU Pro is USB 1.1, so I decided to try separate USB MIDI interfaces to each surface. I chose these because Roland has up-to-date drivers for all Windows versions, including 8.1 X64. The drivers are all on their www site.
I am ecstatic with the result! Now all 4 surfaces work instantly with no lag at all, and PT is totally stable! No crashes, no "crazy blinky lights", just the entire system fast, responsive, and working exactly as it should! And the Roland drivers didn't mess with Windows DPC latency! My interface latency is still very low with no pops or crackles.
These are AWESOME little units, and I highly recommend them for Windows users. And my sales rep, Mike Harris, rocks!
great,only way to go
Roland, can beat Roland gear, it tracks like you want it to!
UM-ONE IS #1
The Roland UM-ONE is a great USB / MIDI Interface. I have not had any issues with it and I like the length of the cords.
Great Product
No problems at all, easy installation, gets the job done.
Awesome cable
I'm using this cable with a Roland RD-700 from my church and a MacBook Pro running Mainstage 3. There's no hassle with this setup getting the device to be recognized or used by the software, just installed the driver, plugged it in and started playing. I've had other MIDI to USB cables before and the delay between the key press on the keyboard and the computer getting the signal and generating sound was terrible. This is a great little cable, we've used it in practice and will be taking it on the road this weekend.
Roland UM-ONE
I was looking for a Data Interface, for my Home Recording Studio, but did not know what I needed, or what would work best for me. I was informed of Sweetwater, by a friend and contacted them. They were great at helping decide, exactly what I needed, referring to the Roland UM-One, which I then purchased from Sweetwater. I use this device to patch my Keyboard directly through my Computer, and into my Professional Recording Program. I can also send the output of the Computer`s Audio, into my Digital 24 track. Works perfectly! I would highly recommend Sweetwater for any, and all, of your musical needs. Thanks Sweetwater, the one stop music center!
Perfect for Roland Vdrum Modules
Works perfect with my Roland TD-12 The UM-ONE allowed me to update the system data/firmware of the TD-12 brain without any issues.
Roland UM-ONE
I recently purchased a rackmount Axon AX-100 synth that has a PC based Editor. My rack includes a laptop but the Axon only has MIDI connections it does not have a USB connection. I had tried a Hosa MIDI to USB cable (USM-422) but it would not connect to the Editor - even though it appeared to have connection between the laptop and the Axon. I emailed Bob Furlong at Sweetwater and included the appropriate section of the Axon manual and he recommended that I try the Roland UM-ONE. Even though I was skeptical I went ahead and purchased the cable and I am pleased to say it worked flawlessly. In conclusion, my advice to any Axon AX-100 owner is to purchase this cable - it works!
Roland UM-ONE
I was looking for a midi to usb cord for recording midi from my Roland V-Drums. Got the UM-One and couldn't be happier. Works great with V-Drums/Pro Tools and Toontrack EZ Drummer.
IT WORKS
i had several different midi to usb cables before this one, which have all not worked for me. Geoff Allen recommended this one to me (which was cheaper than the others) & after downloading the drivers from Roland, I am able to plug it in & everything works!
Roland UMOneMk2 1x1 USB MIDI Interface:
Your best friend of its class, no matter you are on stage, or in your bedroom where your music ideas and compositions blow to its extreme levels, the Roland UMOneMk2 will co-operate with you with its high speed data transmission of 16 Midi channel keyboard, and laptop. LEDs data indicator lets you work in your dark bedroom too, so you don’t disturb your partner.
This works!!!
Bought this so I could update my Roland ES-8 via my iMac. Coolest thing: you cannot plug this in wrong if you can read! In big letters it says which plug goes where!
For upgrading Neunaber Illumine
Got this adapter to upgrade my Neunaber Illumine's Firmware. This was a recommended adapter from Neunaber on their site. It worked exactly as advertised and had no issues updating the firmware. Well worth the money to ensure future upgrades.
Turns midi into USB
If you're like me then you have a Korg MS2000 that you love to play but you wonder how to use it as a midi controller over USB. Well, this little dongle is the answer to the wonders that have kept you up at night. Download the driver from the Roland website and bing bang boom you are spending your sleepless nights making synthesizer doodles in your favorite DAW.
A great little interface
This little interface is a great way to connect older keyboards to a computer and utilize external VST's. It was easy to set up and able to be used right out of the package. I'm very happy with this purchase.
Jitter problems solved
Friend recommended this to me and he was right. Super tight midi , no jitter.
Breath of new life
After consult with Brian Loney about my old Axiom 49 controller issues with windows 10, he suggested the Roland midi to usb dongle and low and behold it works just fine! Thanks to Brian and Sweetwater. (Please send me the standard shill payment when you can) :) Peace, Dave S
Cheap MIDI interface that works!
I bought the UM-ONE to replace a Yamaha UX-16 because the Yamaha drivers have not been updated and have some problems initializing their adapter. This Roland unit worked out of the box like a champ on everything from XP to Win 10. What more can you ask for at this price... I rated it down a half star because I wish the cables were a bit longer - a minor complaint.
Roland MIDI cables
Simple, effective and reasonable. Connected to mac and garage band easily. Needs additional adapter to connect to iPad. Solid product for someone beginning to explore digital music.
Awesome, does what it says
I purchased a cheap-o Chinese midi adapter for like $6 on ebay. It worked only for simple notes on my keyboard. When I plugged in my GT-8 effects unit, everything fell apart. The Chinese adapter is now in the trash, the ebay seller actually refunded my purchase and didn't even ask for the P.O.S. back.
Now, I have the UM-ONE working overtime sending messages to my whole rig, no errors, no issues. Worth the price to have something functioning properly.
Roland UM-ONE
The roland UM-ONE midi interface was as great price and simple plug and play. Using if for my Roland TD20 V-Drums and drumless music software. Would highly recommend.
Excellent...works with iPad and iPhone
We purchased this to use with a Roland midi controller keyboard and the Roland Apple App. It worked without issue with both an iPhone 6+ and an iPad mini (both with lightning plugs). We did have to purchase an Apple camera cable (lightning to USB), but that's no big deal, just don't cheap out. Buy actual Apple brand and save the frustration of returning cheaper parts. The unit is powered by the Apple equipment and has zero lag between unit and tones.
Roland UM-ONE
:) Device arrived fast with nice package.
The most important feature for this midi interface is that it capable to send and received sysex massages, if you having issues with other midi sending and receiving patches or OS upgrades save yourself from spending $$$ on something else this will work with large sysex info.
The only down side is that you will need to follow Roland guideline and to install device drivers (Mac or PC) this is not simple plug & play.
This unit provide midi channels, and I was able to use it without any issues using USB hub which is big plus these days when computer providing less or shared USB inputs.
works great
This unit was easy to set up. The driver install went great. Working fine so far.
Pretty well performance of my Roland UM-ONE midi interface
It's working well. Only needs faster PC processor to sync the instrument keys with the sound produced by my pc ( maybe .5 second delay)
Hoping I can secure something that can hold multi tracks with a fair budget.
No complaints
This little device does just what it's supposed to do. I didn't give it 5 stars only because it's hard to be "blown away" by a midi converter, if you know what I mean. I guess the least I can say is that if I lost this one, I'd buy one just like it as a replacement.
Roland UM-ONE is great
No problems with delivery or device. Sweetwater follow up is tops. Definitely want to buy more from them.
Works for my needs with my Korg Volca FM 2
After some research I bought this Midi Interface Cable because it was the cable of choice for my needs. I am using it to interface my Korg Volca FM2 with my Macbook Pro and Arturia Keystep 32 Keyboard. This allows me to connect the Volca FM2 to my MacBook Pro in order to us the DEXED and SYNTHMATA Applications (and some others) to edit the Volca FM2 sounds and also to Upload Sysex Files into the Volca FM2. At the same time I can use my Keystep 32 to play the Volca FM2.
Part of this review is to help others as the included instructions were useless.
It's important to first download the Drivers for the MacBook Pro (or what ever computer you are using, such as Windows), install them and then Restart youy computer. Once you do this the Roland UM-ONE-MK2 should be recognized by your computer. Also there is a little switch on the side that needs to be in the COMP position. It's TAB (Tablet) to the left and COMP (Computer) to the right as you face the unit. Make sure you set this before you connect it to your Computer (or Tablet). The switch is recessed and a bit tricky to see and move, I needed a thin paperclip to set it and was not sure at first if the switch even moved so I tried it a few times just to be sure and it did. Roland could have designed this a little better.
One of the important points about the Roland UM-ONE-MK2 is it handles Sysex File Transfer perfectly. Many of the off brand Midi Interface cables do not, they either drop parts of the file, corrupt it or won't transmit them at all.
Pros:
It works for my needs and has been 100% reliable
Cables lengths are long enough for most applications.
LED lights let you know it's functioning
Cons:
A bit Pricey but hey if it works it's worth it
Mode Switch could be easier to see and use
Included Instructions are useless
Not really a bit deal but I would have preferred they used the newer USB C Connector instead of the older USB A, so I am using an adaptor.
4 Stars because of the Mode Switch, Poor Instructions and Price
good and inexpensive
good device. needs a longer cable option
Does What You Want
I bought it to send midi from Ableton to my outboard devices, since my audio interface is a UA Apollo. It does the job, and seemingly minimal latency. With configuring though, it took me a little bit to find the drivers. Roland has a couple different pages on their website, one containing drivers for older operating systems, and one for newer. After getting it all set up though, I've had no issues.
Good!
Good! Slightly confusing if you"re not versed in synthesis and midi mapping.
Useful Product!
Works well for basic synth keyboard connection to a computer Daw.Also, will work with a synth with midi out only.Uses the built -in sounds from the Daw plug-ins.Sounds great with no noticable latency! Happy with the purchase!
Roland UM-ONE Mk 3
Midi to USB converter works grest, I wish the cable had been longer for setup, but I was able to resolve my issues with and old midi 2 in 8 out hub I had laying around from the 80,s. don"t sell your old gear, you never know.
Does its job
Had some driver issues where even the new, updated drivers wouldn't work with my MacBook Pro, but outside of that it works great!
Good Phone Support was Crucial
This USB-MIDI interface does what it's supposed to do, but Roland shipped a dysfunctional driver CD which failed to install in my Windows 8 laptop. The failures were so weird that it took me three tries (15 minutes) before I picked up the phone and dialed Sweetwater's tech support. It took them less than 60 seconds to locate and email a download-link to an updated driver which installed just fine.
I'm grateful for competent support staff.
Making my life easier
Despite the directions not being user friendly to set up, this tool has by far made dialing in and organizing my delays and reverbs so much easier. Using with the strymon timeline, big sky and mobius, it's so nice to be able to plug in and adjust parameters as needed and even better with being able to organize specific delays and reverbs for any given set. No more dialing in the same stuff over and over and over again...just dragging what I need in the place it needs to go has given me way more time to actually play and practice. Love this tool! Would've given it 5 stars had the setup been more clear.
Major Improvement
My Roland drums (4TK?) midi out using a different midi/usb interface had been crashing at low latency settings (32, 64, 128) when trying to record midi drum data thru AD2, Sonar Platinum and Apollo Twin Quad. Now with my new Roland Um-One, I can record my drum performances as I play AND hear them at 128 with no crashing and really no noticeable latency. It still crashes about half of the time when I attempt to record at 64 and barely works at all at 32. But the solid 128 setting actually works so well I'm pretty content with it and don't really hear any latency issues. If it works without crashing, and you don't hear any latency problems, that's about all you can do. Took a star off because it still crashes at lower latencies. In comparison, before I went down the Apollo path I could record without crashes using my Roland Octa-Capture at 32 samples and just regular 5 pin midi cables.
Roland UM-ONE
Works like a charm. Thanks for the recommendation and the tech support!
Only Interface for Boss ES 5 & ES 8
Works great! Seems to be the only Midi to USB Interface that works with Boss ES 5 Midi Switcher pedal.
Tried the Mio Midi to USB Interface and got Midi error messages every time I would connect cables.
Boss online forum has people saying the same thing that the Roland UM-One is the only Midi to USB Interface that will work for the Boss ES 5 & 8 without getting any error messages.
UM-One does the job
I used this for a quick tablet/laptop hookup when away from the main PC gear.
Not much to say other than the product works as advertised and the price was reasonable. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because the MIDI IN/OUT connectors are hard to read, especially in the dark. A nice touch would have been an easier to identify mark or color or tag indicating direction.
No problems with Linux
Didn't even remember to consider if this would work with Linux Mint 17.3 OS when I bought it, but happy to toss all the drivers and documentation to the side, plug into the keyboard and into the computer and pull it up on midi input in LMMS. Worked like a champ.
It Works
The device works just fine. I followed the simple install instructions supplied with the driver CD and was up and running in 5 or 10 minutes. I used the UM-One to connect a 25 year old Roland KR-3000 keyboard which I purchased at the dawn of Midi to my computer and my recently purchased Notion software. I thought that midi from a 25 year old device might cause problems for 1 year old software but everything works great.
Roland UM-1 Midi Interface
Simple effective, compact device. Plugged in and it went right to work. No noticeable latency. The instructions leave a lot to be desired as they are confusing and not well written. It would be nice if the midi in and out plugs were better marked.
Simple and effective
Bought this interface as a lightweight alternative to my full-featured MOTU breakout box for doing simple hardware-based work away from my main studio setup. Installation on my Macbook was very quick and simple, and so far I have had no troubles sending note or controller data. This was the right solution at the right price for what I wanted to do.
um-one
Easy to install, easy to use, clear when something isn't right and easy to fix.
Roland UM-ONE
There's no reason why it shouln't get a 5. I wasn't blown away but I was excited that it works with all my midi stuff. It's very portable too.
Interface solved my Windows 8.1 issue
I purchased a generic interface cable that did not work with my Alesis synth connected to Windows 8.1. I struggled with it for a month then called Sweetwater for help after seeing an ad for the Roland UM-One. Product was backordered but was shipped one day later. It worked as I hoped, the directions were clear and the sales engineer followed up to make sure I was satisfied, which I am.
Compact and Effective
While there is not a lot to say about a USB midi cable I can say it works well on the Mac OS, no log jams, no clock errors. It is not bulky, the build quality is fine, not outstanding but good. I'd buy it again in a second.
Works!
It does what it's supposed to, and lets you send data from a USB port to a pair of MIDI ports. I've used slightly less expensive models that worked just as well, but this one does seem solidly-built, and there are very current drivers available from Roland, as of early 2013. If you're sure you only need one MIDI device bridged to USB, I'd recommend this one. Otherwise, a 2x2 adapter like the MoTU fastline is probably more bang for the buck.
Works as well as represented
They answered all questions accurately and gave great service. There's no doubt that I'll think of them next time I need accessories.
Not Bad
I purchased this unit so that I could connect my AXE FX to my iPad, for the purpose of running the "FracPad" app, which I was, and am still very excited about.
I am running the FracPad on an iPad AIR 2 so I have enough power for the app to run smoothly. However, I have had several crashes with the app. In talking with the developer, no one seems to be having this issue, so it could be the MIDI unit. The jury is still out on that one. I have to look at the log from the app to determine what is going on.
Overall, it is easy to connect and play. There is a tiny switch that allows you to set the Roland unit to work with a tablet or a computer. ...you would hope that this simple piece of equipment works very well. It"s still new so I really have to give it a good test drive.
Due to the fact that I cannot say at this point that the crashes are due to the Roland unit, I will have to put my faith in it and say it"s pretty darn good. It gets the job done and it"s just a great portable piece of equipment. In my opinion, it is definitely overpriced, but were you going to do? LOL
I gave a lower rating, just on the the chance, that the Roland unit is the source of the FracApp crashes. However, please don"t let this deter you from purchasing the unit. It probably is one of the better ones out there.
The Roland UM-ONE
I had purchased the UM-ONE to accept the midi output from the pedal division of a 3 manual VP organ. The manuals already were equipped with USB outputs but the pedal devision was not. It worked flawlessly even though the OS was Linux, not one of the OSes mentioned on the package. The only confusion was with the Roland UM-ONE which, instead of accepting the midi out from the pedals to the midi in cable on the Roland, would only work going into the midi out cable of the UM-ONE. Once that was figured out, it worked as expected.
Works but cheaply made
Not the easiest thing in the world to make work and it's just a simple cable. Firmware install was a headache to verify and the switch is so recessed it's almost impossible to select it. Once it works, it works but this was an hour out of my life I'll never get back.
Not USB MIDI Device Class-compliant
This device is sold at a premium price but is not premium in my opinion. The fact that it isn't USB MIDI Device Class-compliant surprised me. This hampers its ability to work with the maximum number of products.
Drivers needed download.
The supplied disk did not work for installation. After several attempts and re-reading the instructions over and over, I had to go online and download drivers to make it work.
Much more of a hassle than it should be, especially for a Roland product, which is supposed to be superior. Now I'm wondering if there's a better (and lower latency) product for MIDI interface than this one.
Does not work on MacOS - Roland keeps delaying a fix
It's been over a year and Roland still has not updated the drivers and firmware. If you are a Mac user - DO NOT BUY THIS
Not compatable with Mac OS X high Sierra
I was so stoked that it came in a bit earlier than it said it would be. opened it up tried to instal the driver to my Mac and it wouldn't let me. went to Roland looked up trouble shooting it gave me some directions to 1 type of error but it wasn't the same error I had .spent about a day doing research and I guess I wasn't the only one having the same problem. long story short still dosent work. I guess I should really done my homework better. Time to put this one on craigslist and order A different one......
