Fantastic interface

By Chris from Florida on December 8, 2023

I use this interface for hybrid corporate meetings where I need to achieve a mix minus for live audio competing with zoom audio. It works wonders and is very easy to work into my system. Eliminates feedback when your mixer is set properly for audio coming from zoom into the room.

Affordable Solution

By Craig VonBerg from Fresno, CA on May 31, 2023 Music Background: Jazz, pop, church keyboardist. Arranger, producer, educator.

I'm a keyboardist, using a controller and sounds from samples and soft-synths on a laptop. I was tired of borrowing my home studio digital audio interface for my gigs. The U-Phoria UMC22 by Behringer was the perfect solution. Affordable, small, and sounds great. I only use it as an output converter, so I can't comment on the inputs and mic preamps, but I trust they're great.

I am in love with this interface, haven't had any problems, just got it. Everything about it was fantastic! I'm a Stagehand and a freelance Voice Over Artist, and I needed an upgrade, this was an early Christmas gift.

Best Value for Price

By Skyler Anderson from El Cajon, CA on November 30, 2022 Music Background: Bedroom studio musician

I've owned my behringer UMC22 since 2018 and it has not given me a single issue. As straight Forward as it gets for an interface and has gotten me through so many recording sessions.

Hands down the best bang for buck purchase and will last a super long time given youre not dropping it

Worked perfectly.

By Bob Stamper from Richmond, KY on July 22, 2022 Music Background: Performance and Recording

It was a bit of an emergency purchase because my Motu interface died. All I needed was a single input in to the computer for recording a guitar track. Finding and installing the AISO driver was a bit confusing just because in the past that was always included with the interface, but once I followed the instructions, it worked great on Windows 10. No glitches or issues that I noticed. Very pleased with the function and price.

Great Buy

Fantastic and easy

By Zach from Cleveland, OH on December 16, 2020 Music Background: Vocalist, Guitarist, Producer

My needs at this time were simple. I wanted something to run my two M-Audio BX5A studio monitors, and I wanted the option to record 1-2 lines at a time if needed. This piece of equipment was a really good value and does this. So far I have only just played back music, so I can't speak to the recording quality of the pre-amps. I literally just plugged it in to my iMac and it was recognized as an audio output immediately. Now I can open up some old Logic projects and get inspired.

It's Good for External Audio, Too!

By Mike Shaffer from Walker, WV on April 28, 2020

After 10 years, my laptop's headphone jack wore out. Got a small USB audio card with a headphone and mic jack from Amazon. It works, but man, the clarity for spoken word just isn't there. So, I searched external audio cards on Sweetwater, and what pops up? Audio interfaces! A super-fat face palm later, I hooked up my UMC22 and... MAGIC! It's bloody PERFECT! Thanks, Behringer, and thank you too, Sweetwater! Oh, and, one more thing: I also have a Tascam DR-40 for when I want to record outside of my home office. It's cool, and all that, but this Behringer's sound quality beats it. I'll be doing more recordings at my computer from now on.

Super Quiet Amps

By Mike Shaffer from Walker, WV on June 13, 2019 Music Background: Amateur Podcaster

The amps are super quiet. Cranked a hair short of almost all the way up, the noise floor is so slight, it's nearly imperceptible. I use it for recording podcasts. Yes, I definitely recommend this.

Perfect for my purposes

By Aaron from Mandeville on June 3, 2019 Music Background: Dance Instructor

My external soundcard recently died, so I went looking for something to replace it. I play music from a laptop plugged into a powered mixer. The buzzing noise was something ever present without an external device. The Behringer UMC22 USB audio interface came recommended, so I got it. I plugged it in and it was identified immediately by my computer as the sound device without having to download extra drivers or programs. The sound quality is great. Audio is clear and it"s also louder than my former external soundcard. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

I have never really been interested in recording by myself, I"m old fashion school so to speak.
And I have tried numerous things but it has always ended up like......I told u so, this is nothing for me!
Until I passed through this Behringer interface UMC22.
Now I"m in the game, and how easy it was to learn, and many thanks to Phil!
I love it and I love it, I guess that"s everything that I have to say!
SIMPLE AND EASY AND GREAT!

Solid Interface

By Daniel Bulger from Owasso, OK on August 9, 2018 Music Background: Self Taught Mixing Engineer/Musician

Absolutely love this interface. It works wonderfully and sounds great. The build is very sturdy on it and it sounds great. It is noiseless for the most part and works great in combination with the rest of my recording tools. Great interface for beginners on a budget or a pro just wanting something to record on the go with. The 2 inputs work nice for someone who need to record multiple things at one time. Great for recording guitars, basses, vocals, etc. Easy to move it if needed.

Pros:
Mostly Noiseless
Ports for your headphones and studio monitors
Pretty small but very sturdy

Cons:
No real problems.

Strong Portability, Perfect for a Beginner!

By Andrew Prado on July 8, 2018 Music Background: Live keys, Composition

I purchased the UMC22 having already owned the UMC404HD for several months, for the increased portability. I am impressed that the unit is bus powered and still delivers good phantom power to a mic. I imagine it would have been more prudent to purchase this first, then upgrade to the 404HD down the road. I say this because this interface is, despite its size, very capable and perfectly sufficient for the beginning home producer.

Great gear - great customer service!

By Deb Flanders on February 20, 2018

I recently purchased a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 audio interface. As a first-time Sweetwater customer, I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call from Kyle who informed me that he would be my personal sales engineer and that I could give him a call with any questions about the gear after it arrived. He was friendly and knowledgeable and wanted to make sure I was happy not only with the gear, but with my entire Sweetwater experience! I've never had such a great customer service experience with an online company, and oh, by the way, the U-Phoria UMC22 is a great little interface that has worked perfectly for my needs. Thanks, Sweetwater! I'll be back!

Great little interface!

By Larry on February 13, 2018

Opened the box and had it hooked up and working perfectly in 2 minutes. No drivers to install, nothing to configure. Just select 'USB Audio CODEC' from System Preferences -> Sound (don't know if it's this easy in windoze). Very small profile, it will fit into tight spaces easily. AWESOME!! :-)

Pretty nice box for the right price!

By C G on December 23, 2017 Music Background: 20 years of guitar work/1 year audio exp

This little box is perfect for the beginner in audio mixing and recording as I am! Controls are sturdy and the Midas power is great on mics. Sturdy frame and construction are also a plus with its metal casing.
I have not used or downloaded the Tracktion DAW yet since I am waiting on buying a more powerful desktop computer to handle the software. Right now I'm just using it through GarageBand (the old version) since well...the computer was free and GarageBand was free lol! The sound through the mac though is great, I love it! Acoustic guitar sounds perfect through this box. And thanks a million to Evan and crew at Sweetwater for taking care of it all! Love Sweetwater!

Jackpot!

By D. Chanter on December 2, 2017

I had an issue, but Andrew in Sweetwater support resolved that in under 10 minutes and it wasn't the fault of this interface. Like most I stayed away from this brand in the past, but after this experience, I don't see a need to spend big $$$ anymore. And to think, I was about to invest in an Audient. So glad I did my research. The latency is almost non existent and everything is very straight forward. The drivers are ASIO4ALL and are very stable. The size is also very portable and the build quality is solid. Other manufacturers need to take notes, this is the best interface under $200 imo.

Buena calidad

By Jorge Kutev on March 21, 2017

Behringer interfaces are the best bang for the buck at any price point or feature range

By Manos Osmir from norfolk Va on March 2, 2017 Music Background: 27 years extreme metal (+rap and r&b production and engineering)

I own this, and the FCA 610 also from behringer... let's get to the meat. Both boxes have strong phantom power. The FCA 610 reads at 49.85v of phantom power, an all time first for me, as most interfaces skimp on the phantom power and only give somewhere between 12v and 27v, and yes, it does make a subtle difference in sound quality of your condenser mic. This little usb powered box doesn't have a separate power supply so I was expecting it to have low phantom power, but it pegged the meters at 45.8, which is impressive, as its only running on usb 5v power. The noise floor on both units is super low because of the midas preamps. REcording is a breeze, latency is low as can be, the knobs work well and are noise free... the leds work fine, the phantom power switch is easy to find even though its on the back, both jacks are up front, (the lexicon alpha is ten dollars more than this, doesn't have phantom power, and the mic jack is on the back of the unit). Now, I've had alot of recording interfaces, I've been computer recording since 1997. that's a long time. Behringer's new line of interfaces blow everyone away... a/d and d/a conversion is clean, the preamp is clean, latency is lower than most, (both units read 11ms in reaper) There is no longer a need to spend more than 300 dollars on an interface(the umc1820 has 8 analogue midas mic pres in, and ten analogue outputs). now the only "drawback" in this tiny unit is the sample rate only goes up to 48k, which, can be argued is not as good as 96 or 192, but 48k is what most studios use because most plugins work best at that rate, most daws have the least issue at that rate, most software and hard drives perform best at that rate, you can run more instances of effects at that rate, and its equal to "hd audio" blue ray style, and you still have to down sample it to make an mp3 or cd format so anything past 48 sounds better in the studio, but the end product isn't any better no matter how high your sample rate is when recording. So, that said, this box is absolutely perfect if all you need is one or two inputs. I could see this being a problem free interface. I've had my fca610 for over a year and its still just as awesome as it was the day I bought it.

Perfect for the price

By Jake on February 14, 2017 Music Background: Audio Production

Purchased this to use with FL Studio and Ableton so that I could run studio monitors, as well as have easier access to the headphone jack rather than reaching around my tower everytime I needed to move them. Also purchased a condenser microphone to record vocals and to track live instruments and needed phantom power. This interface was the perfect price for a complete package of all these features. The audio quality through the microphone preamp is near perfect and the volume knob for the headphone out is much more convenient than adjusting it through Windows. The direct monitor is pretty neat when using a microphone, as it give me a decent idea of what the output will sound like once recorded in real time. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced yet high quality interface!

Great audio interface

By Philip from Universal City, TX on May 18, 2016

I patiently waited to receive this audio interface as it was on backorder for a while. I generally just use these USB audio interfaces as a output for my Mackie studio monitors. I had a $250 m-audio interface that died after a year and had to dump the unit. I then bought a Akai eie unit locally that I always had issues with. It never quite worked right or had good sound out of it, not to mention compatibility issues with my MAC. I've had Behringer equipment in the past with guitar effects units and amps which I was VERY impressed with. After buying it and recieving this unit, it just works. I'm very happy with the price, size and how I don't have to worry about a bunch of complex drivers or setup. I really trust anything made by Behringer, they have never let me down in function and quality. I think this may be the best bang for your buck interface there is. Will try the audio recording later on but I have no doubt it will be flawless.

Why You Should Buy This.

The difference between this and the $1,000 interfaces? The price. Good stuff. Buy it. Made a whole CD off this thing. :)

Fantastic upgrade

By Gordon Blodgett on February 17, 2020

I record audiobooks from my home studio. I used a Blue Yeti for over a year when my sound engineer recommended me upgrading my setup. I just recently transitioned to a Rode NT1 with this Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 USB Audio Interface and have been incredibly happy. The direct monitoring on this is fantastic and I couldn't be happier with the cleanliness out of the interface. I use active monitors for editing, so this interface was perfect for what I needed. The only thing I have found so far that I wish was different was the location of the xlr cable input. Since there are cables on the front and back, I had to attach the interface in a place where I wouldn't run into the cables at the front of the box. This is personal preference, and it doesn't effect the overall use of the product. Thank you for the great product!

Dont need pedals anymore!

By John R from Florida on September 22, 2018 Music Background: Guitar player for 20 years

…this is my first interface and I am absolutely satisfied. There are a ton of simulators out there, I'm using BAIS FX at the moment and it has completely removed the need for expensive FX pedals. I'm a bedroom guitarist at the moment and with my BEATS headphones the sound and tone of my guitar is mind blowing. I'm using Reaper as my DAW and have easily been able to record licks and riffs effortlessly. I have already recommended this to my fellow players and I reccomend it to you!

Pretty solid interface

By Sweetwater Customer on November 27, 2016

This interface came through as a efficient backup for me when my go to interface had connection issues and was sent for repairs. It works good enough although the driver setup or lack thereof was a little wonky. There is also an issue when switching between soundcards where there's a bit of a pause with an audible clicking heard in the headphones that doesn't happen when any other interface I've used. Other than that, it's does what it's supposed to.

Great for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on November 10, 2023 Music Background: Heavy music musician of 25+ years

If you're on a budget you really can't go wrong here. It's perfect for demo material and because I'm all about DYI and raw music, it's good enough to get good enough tones for an an underground release in my opinion. If you have more money definitely for the Scarlet interface but this one is great on a budget. Only complaint is that there is occasional popping sounds on recordings (as other reviews have mentioned). What causes this? I don't know. But it's manageable.

bit depth: only up to 16 bit

By J. Rhee from CAMBRIDGE, MA on April 16, 2021

I am happy with the price and quality of UMC22.

However, it turns out that UMC22's bit depth is 16 bit (not 24 bit). I thought it should be 24 bit just like the other models' bit depth. I was able to know its correct bit depth only after purchasing and using it. If I knew the bit depth difference, I'd have bought UMC202HD by spending additional money. I hope that Behringer clearly specifies the bit depth for the future customers.

* UMC22: 16-bit/48 kHz (the 16-bit depth is not specified in Behringer's website or manual).

* UMC202HD: 24-bit/192 kHz

Great on Mac, Disappointing on Windows

By Gavin Clark from NY on November 22, 2020

I've owned the Behringer UMC22 for probably 3 years now. It works great as long as you can get it to work with your computer. I use mine primarily with my Macbook when I am traveling and want to play guitar on my Neural DSP Amp sims or Positive Grid Bias FX (back when I bought it). I only run into issues with it when I tried to connect it to my windows pc. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to function correctly when on PC. I think its due to poor driver support with ASIO4All. If only using with Mac, then I'd give this 5 stars for an entry-level super low-cost interface for home recording

It Works, but...

By Steven K. Beckett from Decatur, IN on September 6, 2019

The Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 is a decent audio interface, it works but my main issues are two-fold.
One it took several try's to get the drivers and software to load, within this issue Behringer makes it hard to find the recording software (Waveform 8).
And Waveform is my second issue, I do not know about anyone else, but Waveform is far more obtrusive and complicated than it should be.
Fortunately, Sweetwater and Studio One offer a free version that is intuitive and user friendly. With that, I am able to record as advertised. So, all in all, I give it a 4 star rating, the price is affordable, it allows me to record and works with other recording software.
I still have a lot to learn as my first recording sounds good but during playback after exporting to mp3 it is a little too hot.

Portable and Easy

By Drew from Utah on December 12, 2018 Music Background: (15 years) Production and Mixing and returning to school

I have not had to use it much yet, but i bought it for a simple and cheep portable interface to use with my laptop for school performances. So far so good, Just running my laptop USB in and 2 ballanced 1/4 in out to two DI box's. Nice cause it takes the stress of my laptop a bit and allows my to control my out to the main mixer and headphone volume right in front of me. For the price i couldn't ask for much more. Oh yeah and plugging in a mic or other instrument doesn't hurt.

Pretty Cool Piece of Gear

By Stephon from Northern Indiana on October 20, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyists

I am just starting to get into recording and was not looking to break the bank on an interface. I decided on this one based on other reviews and the recommendation of the staff. So far I am very happy with it.

Nice inexpensive interface

By Christian Nielsen from Maple Grove, MN on August 26, 2017

This had many good reviews and I was able to get a great price on it here at Sweetwater. I am VERY happy with it except for one thing. It only has two inputs, an xlr and a 1/4". After using it I realized that I have some devices with stereo outputs and I cannot plug both channels into this thing at the same time. I wish the channel with the XLR also had a 1/4" jack as well. It's my fault for not paying closer attention and doing more research before buying. Other than that, it seems perfect.

Cool little interface

By Sweetwater Customer on July 24, 2017

No complaints

Excellent bang for the buck

By Sweetwater Customer on January 6, 2017

Very solidly built. Metal casing, solid knobs, firm plugs.

Set up is kind of a hassle, with the ASIO4ALL drivers.

Once set up, however, it works great. I've been using it with Reaper and I can easily get a usable signal out of my instruments with little to no noise, good monitoring, very low latency. I like it.

Only bad thing is that the ASIO driver blocks the audio for windows (I use Win10) so if you're using the interface with Reaper or GTR3 or any other program, you can't get audio from, say, your browser (usually to figure out songs I start GTR3 or Pod Farm to plug in my bass or guitar, and then play the song on YouTube to play along. Can't do that anymore).

Overall, for the price, great buy. Please don't buy the UM2, it's a noisy piece of crap, pony up the extra bucks for at least the UMC22, it's worth it. (I would know, I bought the UM2, sent it back, and got the UMC22 later. Night and day!)

Works great... Don't drop it!

By dougiebe from Lawrence, KS on March 6, 2017

Great little unit for the price. Bought this for my teenage kid to get into home recording. He took right to it and it worked great for him to piece together compositions. Until he knocked it off the desk and it landed on the plugged-in USB port. The stress of the impact bent the port at the case and it came apart internally. Now it's dead and not worth repairing. This thing only weighs a few ounces so I was surprised the port couldn't handle that bit of stress. The UMC22 is very affordably priced so I guess I shouldn't expect too much. So while you should take care not to abuse any of your gear, be extra careful with this piece. I'd suggest keeping all cables unplugged when not in use so as to reduce unnecessary stress on the jacks... and the chance you will accidentally yank it off your desk!

works okay, but a USB mic is better for a lot of things

By Sweetwater Customer on June 25, 2021

This definitely works, and there are things to like about it. I run Audacity on a PC, and the software finds the USB device just fine. I really like the direct monitoring; as advertised, there's no latency. However, I ran a Shure SM58 into this, and it sounded really muffled; my Blue Yeti is vastly superior for vocals. The same goes for acoustic guitar: the signal through the interface just doesn't sounds like my guitar at all, whereas the Yeti sounds true (you just have to avoid background noise). I still like this product: the main reason is that I can run an acoustic guitar through pedals and straight into the interface without plugging into an amp, and I can get some cool sounds for home recording. For most purposes, though, a USB mic is probably better.

Just OK. A Bit Flat

By Ken Teel on December 16, 2017 Music Background: Jazz Musician

Behringer bragged about the MIDAS designed preamps, and I read positive reviews, so I went ahead and bought this thing. If I were rating it using a school grading system, I'd give it a "C+." I got it out of the box and used a set of Sony 7506 (professional broadcast) headphones to critically listen to how it sounded. These headphones are slanted toward the treble end, in my opinion. So hearing the high end should have been no trouble. What I found was that the Behringer UMC22 didn't have much of a high, high treble response. If you're looking for sparkle on your acoustic guitar, or sizzle on your cymbols, this unit won't bring those out. The overall sound of this unit was just a bit flat (didn't have much 3 dimensional sound, meaning the instruments don't have as much separation from each other, as some other interfaces provide.) For the price, this is an OK deal. Of course many times you get what you pay for, and this is no exception. If your needs don't require high fidelity, this may be the unit for you. If you are just putting things on the internet, and know that your audience will be listening through earbuds, or little tiny cell phone, or laptop speakers, this will probably serve your needs. Also, if you're someone with little audio experience this may sound great to you. The pluses of this unit is that it has MIDI, the pots are smooth and allow you to dial up input and output levels, the clip lights are helpful, it doesn't require an AC power supply (USB powers it) so it's good for remote recording, the box is made of metal (an real plus for feeling substantial), and it has phantom power. That is quite a bit of stuff for cheap price. For you guys who are interested in higher end audio, this unit will suffice for recording things that are not to placed up front in the mix (bass guitar on roots style music, bass drum, background vocals, instruments that are too shrill, etc.) All and all I would say that if you're looking for some high end sizzle and 3 dimensional sound in your recordings, this isn't the unit to get. If you're not concerned with hi fidelity, want a knock around unit to record in the park with, or just want a back up for noncritical elements in your mix, this may work fine for you. By the way, the sound on this unit is very similar to the Behringer UCA202 (they may even use the same Digital to Analog convertor chips.) I hope that this is helpful to you, and is my honest opinion. If I find better evidence, down the road, I['ll amend this critique. Happy recording !

Poor Sound Quality on Monitoring

By Sweetwater Customer on August 2, 2022

I had two surprises with this item, the first is a lack of feature that I didn't realize, and the second is quality-related.

First, this only powers on if it is connected to a PC. You can't use a USB charger or power adapter to supply power to this if you are just using it for monitoring, it won't turn on unless there is a computer signal. If you only plan to use it with a computer that's ok but I wanted to monitor a mix between a digital piano and iPad.

The second, more concerning problem, was the analog audio quality out of this device is poor. That is true for the headphone monitoring on the front, and the left and right channels on the rear. You may not notice or care depending on your monitors and what you're used to but for me it was unusable as the sound of my piano became fatiguing after a few minutes with multiple headphones or IEMs. Monitoring directly off the piano sounds great, I tried everything I could and isolated the problem to this audio interface.

Maybe this is a case of you get what you pay for, but I've never had a source device sound so bad and that includes the built in sound on laptops, tablets, and the like. I suspect all of the money went into producing good digital audio to go to the PC, so if that is your use case this might be fine, but if you are planning to monitor something other than voice I'd spend a few more dollars.

Nothing but issues with windows 11!

By ron eschner from West Seneca, NY on September 13, 2022

Windows 11 does get along with asio driver that you need to download unfortunately. Previous versions seem to have no problems according the reviews- wish that was stated in the specs beforehand. I know it's impossible to cover every single potential glitch but that's a biggie especially since windows 11 is common ground!

Stop! NO ASIO DRIVER

By Joseph Schmidt from RALEIGH, NC on December 8, 2022 Music Background: I like to play

Useless for a DAW. I should have read more reviews until I found that it would not run well in studio one. My bad! Maybe this review will help you.

Driver for this unit are worthless

By don on April 27, 2020

I can't use this unit with either Bandlab or Soundtrap (both online Daws). I'm using Windows 10 and it's been a real nightmare. I'm considering switching to a MacOS machine to avoid poorly coded audio software for Win10. No, I don't recommend this product.

Disappointing
