Great little interface!

By Riggs Horton from MURFREESBORO, TN on May 12, 2023 Music Background: Country/Bluegrass Gospel/Folk

I have had this excellent interface for 2 years and recorded hundreds of songs with it. It's very simple but is all you need if you're a amuture musician like me. I've taken it various places and dropped it, but it still runs just as good as the first day I got it.
This is probably the very best budget interface.

it does what it's told.

By Travis Ritter from Madison, TN on November 30, 2022 Music Background: singer in hard rock band anti-depressant

picked this up to use with my condenser mic because i think my mixing board's phantom power had stopped working.

Well priced solution

By John Jenkins from Pennsylvania USA on November 30, 2022 Music Background: Musician 40+ years, bass, lead, rhythm guitars, mandolin, banjo, keyboards, and upright bass

This little box solved my recording issues. My recordings in Reaper's DAW we're over peaked coming from the headphone jack of my Fender Mustang III V2 amp, and my Beatle bass was too low to plug into the mustang. By adding the Beringer U-phoria into the chain, I am able to boost the bass with 48 v phantom power and get a great line signal. I us it at home to record myself on multi instruments and I couldn't be happier. It's small, lightweight and easy to travel with and indiscreet in my studio chain. My only slight peeve is that it has no off switch, so I have only a choice of letting stay on, or disconnect the USB port, which will degrade over time. Overall, I still give it 4.65 of 5 stars.

Simple to use. Does its job.

By Peter Macfarlane on June 25, 2022

Easy plug-and-play. I use this for feeding a dynamic microphone signal into a computer for online meetings, lessons, workshops & performances, both spoken word and acoustic musical instruments. Since it can provide phantom power, a condenser mic could also be used. The controls are simple and intuitive. Quite simply, it does what it's intended to do, does it well, and is easy to use. I can't ask for any more than that.

Great for my purposes

By Connor Cook from Los Angeles, CA on April 7, 2022

I bought this interface for my mobile rig, which has to fit in a backpack under my seat with the other gear (and this fits the bill!) It records well, only one input which is good for traveling. My only wish is that it felt a bit sturdier, but for the price you can't complain. You won't find an interface at this compact size and at this price, so I'd recommend it highly.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

By Vaughn Ripley from Brunswick, MD on March 15, 2022

Using this to connect my condenser mic to my laptop for online meetings. It works perfectly and has a small footprint. Good stuff!

Works perfectly!

By Samuel Ruiz from SAN ANTONIO, TX on March 3, 2022 Music Background: gigging musician

I originally bought the Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 from guitar center and quickly realized that it was way more than I needed at this point in time. The U-Phoria is way cheaper and fits my needs well. Works immediately with any computer I plug it into. Definitely recommended it to my peers!

Great for using an XLR microphone with your PC

By Vaughn Ripley from Brunswick, MD on October 29, 2021

Does precisely what you would expect and the sound quality is great! Simply plug your mic (even phantom powered ones) into the magic box and plug that into an available USB port on your PC and viola.

great Audio Interface

The best thing ever

By Phil Lembo from Raleigh, NC on October 4, 2021 Music Background: None worth mentioning

OK. An exaggeration. Maybe the next best thing ever. After a few decades of the integrated audio on most PC motherboards, I decided to treat myself to this USB audio interface. While the main motivation was (finally) to have sidetone during conference calls (using the mic monitor switch), I already knew it would also provide a noticeable improvement in stereo output, having set up a UMC22 for one of my kids earlier this year. Paired with even a budget dynamic XLR mic, it's a huge improvement over my old setup that relied on integrated sound for output and a USB mic for input. Oh, and did I mention this is being used with a desktop Linux system? Yeah. No drivers or extra software needed.

Price and quality

By Noah from Las Vegas on June 9, 2021

For a price like this you can't beat it's quality. I highly recommend this product. I was also recommended this Behringer by someone who's been using it for years, and still had faced 0 issues.

Great product

By Wheeler on June 3, 2021

I got this for my livestreams so i could use my condenser mic, as the mixer i had originally gotten was very bad quality. This audio interface is exactly what I needed! It's super basic, but that's all i needed.

Works great, no issues

By Sweetwater Customer on May 21, 2021

I bought this and some other gear for a buddy out of state so he can track vocals. It's being used with a powered USB hub and an iPad. It's powering the condenser mic and providing clean recordings. Doesn't get much easier or affordable than that.

Got this on a lark. Glad I did.

By Everett Morris from Battle Creek, MI on March 1, 2021 Music Background: Bass player, session musician, podcaster.

With this, you can interface with a mixer and have the absolute best possible set up. I am blown away with it doing exactly as advertised and being an absolute genius of a gadget. Don't spend three times what this cost on a Scarlett. Buy this. It will do what you need and you'll have enough to buy some other tools you may need.

Magic Box

By jth from Kentucky on February 26, 2021 Music Background: drone lord

I've been making home recordings and demos with my laptop microphone for 10 years. Why didn't I get something like this 9 years ago? I don't know, but I am glad I have it now. Easy to use. Exceptional value. The only drawback is that my barking dogs are no longer on every home recording I make, which was usually the best part.

Great little interface for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on February 16, 2021

Works great! Purchased for my 12 year old son who needed a mic setup for is Youtube "ventures". Apparently, it worked right out of the box. (I wasn't around when it came so he took it upon himself to set it up...he followed the instructions and bam...he was up and running.

Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB Audio Interface

By Mickey Garlock from Illinois on February 4, 2021 Music Background: none

I've seen people on here say it was hard to set up, I'm here to tell you, those people shouldn't have anything more complicated than a rotary phone. I plug it in and it worked. Took less than 10 seconds.

Behringer's little giant - U-Phoria UM2

By Larry A. Van Fleet on January 28, 2021 Music Background: Guitarist for Life

I'm always impressed by the Behringer gear. I confess that this piece was primarily intended as a replacement interface for the small speakers hogging my desk. The setup could not have been more simple and the sound quality is flawless at such a modest price point.

Can’t believe quality at this price

By Hillary Lanz from Pompano beach on January 16, 2021 Music Background: Podcast

I owned a $100 presonus which was feedback on my m1 Mac. For the price I figured I would try it. Awesome product 0 noise or feedback and I'm using it on an Apple m1- with a USB adapter but does not effect quality. If you are looking to chuck a usb mic for xlr try this

Awesome buy!

By Amanda Jane Ross from San Francisco on January 15, 2021 Music Background: Jazz Singer and pianist

It's a good price, and it works well! The Sweetwater customer service is great as well! If anything were to be wrong, I'm sure they would take care of it quickly. Overall good price for a pretty great piece of equipment!

This works wonderfully to separate out and digitize the mic to which we have it attached.

Interface fixed fuzzy ElectroVoice mic

By Karen M Pauley from WA on December 29, 2020

Producing a radio program from home poses certain problems, but thanks to the U-Phoria UM2, my ElectroVoice mic is no longer buzzing, humming and generally being annoying! Thanks for the easy fix to the situation! Now my show sounds much better! Thanks!

Great interface

By Sean on December 10, 2020 Music Background: Producer & Audio Engineer

Purchased this interface to do some at-home production and I couldn't be happier. The interface has extremely low noise and is amazing, especially for the price. I'm clocking latency at 6ms with 256, which is virtually unnoticeable for instruments and creates a very subtle, yet expected, "echo" effect with vocals. Zero complaints from me. I definitely recommend this!

Great product

Does Its Job Well

By Quincy Cooper from California on September 24, 2020 Music Background: Guitarist/Singer

Behringer once again deliver exceptional quality for exceptional value. This audio interface not only functions on its own, it also has phantom power (48v) support, meaning that you can skip the additional pre-amplifier if you're on a budget. Overall, I'm wholly satisfied with this purchase, and would absolutely buy again given the need.

Good buy

By Sweetwater Customer from North Richland hills, TX on January 4, 2020

It's cheap and it works. Only complaint is that you might need a hum eliminator to get rid of unwanted white noise.

Simply, great.

By Caelan Mars on December 19, 2019 Music Background: audio engineer for music and film

I bought this because I was growing tired of lugging my big rig around when I only needed one channel. This little box allows me to simplify things so that I have less of a mess of gear to deal with and can work faster on smaller projects. Every traveling engineer should toss one of these in their bags.

Everything I Needed

By Sweetwater Customer on November 26, 2019

My former interface was out for the count so I bought this as a replacement. I haven’t looked back since. It works perfectly fine.

Perfect for mobile recording

By Billy Shawver from Grove City, OH on October 14, 2019 Music Background: Bass player, vocalist and guitar player

The UM2 is an awesome device! For those looking for a bus powered 2 channel inetrface, this is a great option. For those new to audio interfaces, download ASIO4All and use that program as your audiodriver type/device. It's plug and play with that program. For those to who talk about the device being noisy, you need to make sure your output levels are not to high. I use this with Live 10 and it wll be great to throw it in my laptop bag and record at jam sessions!

Excellent tool

By Joe Schouster from OH on September 26, 2019 Music Background: Playing instruments for 45 years

This is so compact and has so many features it is hard to imagine. It is all there. So easy to use right out of the box. It is very simple to hook up as well. 1 (one) USB cable and BAAAAM, you're ready to make music or sounds or whatever your music conquest happens to be. Now I have not even talked about Sweetwater giving it to you, which is how I feel about the... price. It even has built in 48VDC for your condenser mics, or turn it off for a regular Dynamic mic. Out of a 1 to 10 I rating, I rate this at # 11.

Great beginner DI

By David on August 9, 2019 Music Background: Rock/Metal

Great beginner DI, and surprisingly even though it's made from plastic I'm not getting any noise from it, the only thing is it doesn't come with a USB to power it.

Nice little interface

By Art from FL on July 15, 2019 Music Background: Vocalist and audio engineer

I recently started working with digital recording and needed an interface for the computer. I am using a Linux based OS and Audacity recording software. I did not need to download any drivers to run in Linux. I have already made some recordings and the UM2 worked well. If you want a good entry level interface, the UM2 is the best one for the price.
I have also tried it with my windows laptop and it also worked well.

Behringer UM2

By Les from Santa Rosa Beach on July 15, 2019 Music Background: Worship team member/budding writer

Hey everyone,
I got the Behringer UM2 a couple of weeks ago. For my purposes (little in home recording projects), this little thing does a pretty bang up job. Super easy to install on my Mac. All I had to do was go to the utilities and open the midi function, then select "USB Codec" for my input and output (if using externally powered speakers) or just for the input if using the headphone jack on the computer. Great for starters or anyone who just doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money.

Great Quality on a Budget!!!

By Immortality from Macon, GA on July 14, 2019 Music Background: Christian rapper, freelance mixing and mastering engineer

The Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB audio interface is amazing. This little guy is very easy to setup. All of the negative reviews regarding difficulty with setup must don't have a lot of experience with audio interfaces. You download the driver from the Behringer website for your version of Windows, install it, and plug in the interface. It's very easy. It has awesome, crystal clear sound quality with awesome gain. It's USB powered and has phantom power for condenser mics. This is perfect for those on a budget. No need for an expensive Apogee, UAD, etc.

Thank You - Shaun Kure

By Rotagilla from Florida on May 20, 2019

The Behringer U-Phoria UM2 is a low cost, easy to install and use. I highly recommend this product. I have used it with Cakewalk, Studio One, Audacity and Transcribe DAW's with no issues.

My Rep. Shaun Kure deserves a big Thank You. Shaun went to "Great" lengths to make sure what your wanting to do and what your ordering will fit your needs. I have ordered several things through him and received the highest service possible.

Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB Audio Interface

By Steve from Virginia on March 21, 2019 Music Background: No Musical Background

Having retired, I wanted something fun to do on a rainy day and bought a keyboard. As time passed by I wanted to know what my playing sounded like to other people, and bought a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 audio interface from Sweetwater to connect the keyboard to my computer . Very fast shipping from Sweetwater and they also emailed instructions to get the UM2 up and running. They offered me free tech support if needed. After registering the UM2 at the Behringer website, I was able to download the free Tracktion Waveform 8 software and then the driver ( ASIO4ALL ). NOTE: When you go to Settings-Audio Device to select your devices input-output, not all drivers are custom named by a manufacturer. Mine was USB CODEC. Now I can play back what I have played using headphones or computer speakers and can also burn the audio files to CD with the my computer software. Sweetwater makes you feel like family !

U-Phoria UM2

By Charlie Francisco from Mahomet, IL on February 16, 2019 Music Background: Beginner guitar

Excellent Value

By Andy from Idaho on March 8, 2018

I tried the UM2 to replace my UMC202HD that got sadly stolen.
The UM2 is half the price at under 30 bucks, though it doesn't do 192khz 24bit.
But I never used that anyway.
I listen to the standard old spotify 48khz sampled streamed music on windows 10, with Equalizer APO and a set of Sennheiser HD558 cans.
And all together it sounds like a million bucks with no distortion and no audible noise, no matter the volume.
There must be a pretty good DAC and headphone amp in there somewhere.

Fantastic product and service

By Dylan Nipp on July 10, 2017

This product is awesome and very easy to use and set up. I bought it to run Peavey Revalver through it and it works like a charm. I love Sweetwater's customer service I will only shop with them for now on.

Great as an affordable DAC

By Scott T from Los Angeles on November 19, 2016

I wanted a quality DAC for my home audio on a budget. I decided to try this first and see if it works. Wow, so happy. Excellent sound with solid output on both the RCA outs and the headphone jack. Zero noise. I downloaded the driver from the website as directed. No hassle install on windows 10. Never had a single glitch. A laptop, a pair of nice powered monitors and this DAC. Instant audiophile system. The recording capabilities are nice to have but secondary for me.

This interface ROCKS!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 17, 2016 Music Background: i own a Numark Mixtrack pro III

So even though I said that this interface rocks, I've only had it for about a day now. and just from one day, mind. BLOWN. a lot of people have said that they needed to download a driver (AISOFORALL I think) from Behringer's website because it wasn't plug and play. well, that isn't true. it IS plug and play. I got it, plugged in my microphone and plugged it Into my PC and it ran and downloaded the driver instantly. And, the great thing about it is the 48v phantom power... I read that and was instantly happy about it.
So, all in all, this interface is purdy darn good.
Thanks Behringer and sweetwater!

Excellent Interface

By Nicholas Frese from Turnersville, NJ on February 2, 2015 Music Background: Performing Musician

I was looking for a quick, easy, cheap interface for my laptop, and this puppy did the trick! It is also compatible with JamKazam, so I should be able to do some live jamming or rehearsing via web, which was the real reason behind this purchase. Very nice effort by Behringer, which traditionally has not been one of my favorite companies.

99% great

By Dave Lynn from Odon, IN on January 31, 2022 Music Background: Keyboard player, Electrical engineer (retired)

The Behringer U-phoria UM2 USB Audio interface is a solid unit with great features. Installation was simple with MS Windows 10 -- drivers were instantly loaded and device was working within a few minutes of opening the box. I deducted 1/2 star for the following reasons:

1. I add to verify with my Sweetwater engineer that this was an digital audio in / out interface (.e.g. the computer sees it as a line output as well as a mic input). The description could use a little tweaking (and now that I know, I can see this was the case, but it was not obvious to me).

2. Behringer (& others) should consider adding "one more feature" -- a means to monitor the audio output from the computer. In our case, we are connecting the RCA analog outputs back into our mixer and feeding it into our Video streaming software. There have been times when the computer indicated that audio was being streamed (e.g. bouncing VU meter bars) when in fact there was zero audio going out. It is very inconvenient to split an RCA cable into a "Y" cable, then boost the level to drive a headphone in order to monitor the signal level. Since there are pre-amps already within the box, adding an A-B type switch would be easy to do and provide the ability to feed either the input or output signal to the headphone jack.

I would recommend this product to anyone needing a high-quality USB interface.

Behringer UM2

By Sweetwater Customer on March 14, 2021

Great little piece of kit, not expensive and works perfectly. I got it for making recordings with the Acapella app using my I-phone, and found out that the phone didn't supply enough power to run the UM2. So I had to buy another piece of equipment, a powered hub, that now gets plenty of juice to the UM2. Excellent help from the folks at Sweetwater.

the only reason i left off half a star is because of the cheap build. its all plastic and feels like it could fall apart if you would drop it a few feet. it sound decent though.

First Time Purchase, Excellent Product!

By Moiz Shah from Texas on November 29, 2020

This is my first time purchasing an audio interface, or just audio equipment in general. So I was very hesitant about what to get, worried that it might not suit the purpose I was getting it for. I can whole heartedly say that this is definitely an excellent Audio interface.

I got it to use with a cardioid microphone and with the drivers installed, my voice sounds leagues better than the cheap $10 mic I had been using for years. Not only is my recorded audio amazing, but plugging my headphones into it has finally made me understand why people get such interfaces to improve their listening experiences. The difference is palpable.

All the while, during shipping and set-up, the crew at Sweetwater was always more than willing to answer any questions or concerns I had about the UM2.

Bottom line is if you want a cheaper audio interface, get this one. And definitely get it from Sweetwater.

Great device for the price!

By Tim Rumford from CA on July 14, 2019 Music Background: guitar, bass, bad singer

For the price this is a great device. It does exactly what it advertises. Little to complain about in the device itself. One thing it's so lightweight it is easy to knock off a table or something with little effort. Makes it feel cheap and hey it is but it also works great. I personally have had no noise issues with it. Testing it I recorded with a SUB bass cranked just below clip and it did fine. Since then I have used it for vocals and guitar and it has performed wonderful for my needs which are home studio.

I wish it came with an install program. If you are a Windows user make sure to get the actual Behringer windows drivers. There are many posts about people pulling their hair out over the input2 issue. Several if not most sites in an honest mistake are pointing to the wrong driver. Your input 2 will not function if you plug and pray or use the wrong driver. There are a few decent short youtube videos that answered all my questions and had proper driver links. The one I used covered latency too which you will want to know how to adjust. Just video search Behringer UM2 setup. Doing this i was up an running in 10 minutes.

Great Interface, never in stock though

By David Baer on January 26, 2016

This Interface simply blew my away it was cheap for very good quality. The only reason why I didn't give a 5 star is because it's never in stock. I preordered one and it took about a month to order and ship. Nothing wrong on Sweetwater's part, their service was excellent. I contacted Sweetwater and asked why it takes so long for a shipment. They said they actually have about two shipments a week and they come in and go out within the same day. Behringer made such an amazing product for such a good price that they can't keep it on the shelves. It is an excellent product. Mine finally came and it works wonderfully. I would suggest buying one as soon as you can if your debating the purchase of one. If Behringer's $30 product is this much in demand what's to keep them from raising the price. Buy it while it's still cheap

Perfect for the price

By Sweetwater Customer from Seattle, WA USA on March 10, 2015

I got this because it is recommended for use with JamKazam. Using the ASIO drivers (I am on Windows 7) I get very low latency and it works exactly as expected. If you are looking for a solid, affordable interface this is a great choice.

Gets the job done

By Jay from Manchester, NH on April 28, 2022 Music Background: Mobile DJ

I bought this without ever having used an audio interface before. This was extremely simple and easy to use--literally plug and play. I got it for work so I could record webinars with my professional-grade microphone. The audio sounds great! I gave this four stars because I can tell the quality of materials is on the cheaper side. The unit is extremely light and appears to be made entirely out of plastic with the exception of the actual input jacks. It gets the job done though and it was a great value.

Great service, product as expected

By Jim on May 16, 2021

This is my first purchase from Sweetwater and the service was great. After ordering, a Sweetwater rep called to let me know the UM2 was on the way and to reach out to him with any questions I may have. The interface arrived in 2 days, nicely and securely packaged. The service has been impressive.

As for the Behringer UM2, it's exactly what I expected. I'm a beginner and running an Arturia Microfreak hybrid synth to the UM2, running to MacBook Pro. No driver needed for MacOS and setup was pretty much instant. I do know enough to know this thing is no-frills, but what do you expect at this (surprisingly) low price point! It has enabled me to get up and running quickly and affordably. There is a noticeable hum likely on the analog side, but it's not a dealbreaker at the moment and could be a result of a ground loop. More tweaks in order, but overall I'm happy with the product, and very happy with Sweetwater's service. I'll be going to them for my future music needs!

UM2 SOFTWARE

By Josh Davis from Medford, OR on January 27, 2021 Music Background: 3 decades of playing music in my basement

For some reason the "asioforall" software does not work and Behringer refuses to put working software on their website.

Here is a link that works . I found this link on youtube music. Just type "Behringer UM2".

Also the UM2 records in stereo but it only has sound on one input. I use Audacity so if you copy the track and paste it onto a new "stereo track", you can swap channels and it will be as close to stereo as you can get. A little extra work but not much.
Despite all of the frustrating problems the UM2 isn't bad, for the price.

Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB Audio Interface

By John Sanders from Aurora, MO on December 17, 2020 Music Background: Lead, Bass, Sound tech for my band

I really like this interface now, that I downloaded the correct driver(s). When I first got it up and running (I thought),the sound was really bad. Full of distortion, hum, etc. Nevertheless, what ever drivers I downloaded I finally got the sound cleared up. I tried to use it with a couple of DAW's and I ended up using Traction 7 (Waveform) and I'm learning to use it.
Like to try with Audacity because I'm familiar with it...but in time I will use both DAW's.
The build on the interface is pretty good and straight forward. The button for monitoring through headphones is a little odd, I think, when recording with the button pushed in there is plenty volume, but when listening back with the button disengaged, the volume is even louder. Wasn't sure if this is correct.
So far with what little I've used it, I believe it will be a good start for both music production and voice over.

Behringer U-phoria Interface UM2

By Sweetwater Customer on December 2, 2020

So far, this little interface has been a quality device. Sound quality is very good and mixing with Garageband is easy. I bought this instead of investing in an expensive USB mic and am very happy with it. ...it's great to be able to record multiple tracks simultaneously. I personally had very little patience when trying to install the free Tracktion software. The whole process was way too complex and tiresome when all I wanted to do was start making music.

great for the price.

U-Phoria UM2 Interface

By DJ Harshey from New Mexico on February 1, 2020 Music Background: Guitar, live sound, bagpipes, didgeridoo

The Behringer U-Phoria UM2 USB Audio Interface has great features and is very easy to hook up, however it was not very user-friendly getting the instrument input to work with Audacity. This is the first time I have ever worked with recording my guitar to my computer so I was very frustrated that this was not "plug-and-play." The user manual was not very clear on how to set up with Windows. As previously mentioned I decided to use Audacity because I just wanted to record my guitar for ear training. I had to research the Internet for quire awhile to figure out how to get the UM2 instrument input to come through with Audacity. When I finally got everything working, the UM2 is very simple to use and I like all the features. I decided to go with the UM2 as a recommendation from a family member and may be way more than I needed to do such a simple task. I have also yet to receive any notification from Behringer about the free software which is supposed to come with the UM2.

Really Decent

By JL on November 10, 2018 Music Background: former live performance musician, FOH engineer, home studio nerd

Ok, first of all, this is a really basic interface. No frills, no studio grade mic pre, no bells or whistles. It's just a basic unit that will allow you to record into your computer. Plain and simple.

However, for the money, it's actually a decent little rig. It has phantom power with an LED that let's you know it is on. It has a combo jack on the preamp input. It is USB powered so no wall wart and it includes the USB cable. It has a green LED that indicates when you signal coming in that turns orange, (if I remember correctly because the phantom power LED is red), when that signal is clipping. It has a direct instrument input for guitars and basses. It has plenty of power for the headphone output, and it has a "direct monitor" button which is simple to operate that let's you hear the inputs with no latency at all.

One negative that I noticed, if you run the gains up past 1 O'Clock or so they start to get noisy. Not really surprising for a base unit like this, but I found that I never needed to run them very high so there was no issue with a high noise floor in the recorded tracks we did.

So overall, while it didn't blow me away, I scored this just a notch under "great". For the money, this unit is just a bit better than "really good". If you just need to record your acoustic guitar and a vocal microphone and you need an inexpensive interface you can carry with your laptop this one would be a good choice.

It does what you need if you need a cheap interface.

By Sweetwater Customer on February 24, 2021

It's noisy, all plastic, has a lot of interference, and the rca outputs are not ideal. But if you need to get an XLR mic to a computer fast, cheap, and mostly easy (drivers can be a pain on this) then it does the job well.

Needs additional driver to work with Jamulus

By High Strung on January 14, 2021

I bought this to use with the Jamulus online jamming app.

The construction quality is good. The box works fine as a sound device for Windows 10, but with the native driver it does not work correctly with Jamulus.

You must download and install the Behringer 2.8.40 driver. However, this driver is not available from Behringer anymore. If yo do some internet searching, you can find it.

There is another third-party driver (ASIO4ALL) but I'm told that the Behringer driver is the best one if you are using Jamulus.

With the Behringer driver, it seems to work, but I'm uneasy about it's ability to continue to work in the future.

Getting it to work on windows 10 was rough

By Sweetwater Customer on December 11, 2020

Well after 2 hours of playing with settings and watching YouTube videos to figure out how to get it to work it is meh.
Probably would go with Focusrite if I had it to do over. Finding drivers is a pain. Windows doesn't recognize it. But I did get it going using an old driver I saw used in a Youtube video. After getting it to make any noise it still had a latency issue. I gave up on it came back the next night and the latency issue was gone like magic. No idea why. Still the sound is not amazing using it with Bias FX. Even after I got Bias FX to work with it Bias Amp still wouldn't work. But the next night it worked. They have Windows driver issue to say the least.

Great for beginners but not reliable for long term use.

By Sweetwater Customer on May 13, 2020

Great at first except after a while the 2nd input jack (labeled INST 2) stops working and will not send the audio signal to your computer/DAW. Other than that it is a great single input interface for beginners, just starting out, who don't have a need for 4x4, 8x8 interfaces.

Ok for the money

By Daniel E O'Connell from South Carolina on February 26, 2020

I like it because it one of the cheapest interfaces with an actual line in. It has its flaws. It feel delicate, like if you drop it, it will break. Lots of plastic which leads to the next issue...interference.this thing makes about 120hz sound all the time, im thinking is a ground loop from my usb, but it is noisy.

Received it FAST

By Craig Gadwah from Lebanon, NH on January 13, 2023 Music Background: Rhythm guitar and vocalist in our Band. I've been playing for 48years

It works but I haven't got it quite figured out with my PC. When I plug my phone into the Mic. I put 1. My music sounds like crap when you can barely hear the vocal. I bought it to play guitar through my computer with other apps but I play with music on my phone song list and I thought I could do that with this it said you can plug MP3 player CD player blah blah into it but I really don't have any software yet either I have it figured out hopefully someday I will work fine

Bleh

By Sweetwater Customer on January 6, 2023

Not a lot of output, and more noise than the Behringer IF/guitar cable it replaced. I kept it because of the 48v, that's all.

Good beginner interface

By Jeremy B. from Houston, tx on July 27, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist

I needed an interface for voice over work for various school projects and this fit the poor college student bill nicely. I paired it with either a Sennheiser 835 or a Audio Technica 813. Having 48v power is nice. It is a little noisy at the higher end but it"s fixable with some low pass filter applied. You can"t beat it for the price. that being said I could have probably picked up a used higher end interface for maybe a few dollars more. Its a decent not great product.

Does what it’s supposed to, but not built to last

By Skyler Milks from Stockwell, IN on December 20, 2022 Music Background: Music producer

My Behringer UM2 worked pretty well for the first few months that I owned it if I remember correctly. Since then it has given me several issues, the preamp has seemingly gotten much much noisier to the point of uselessness and the instrument line in has stopped working. The interface frequently disconnects as well. Because of this I've replaced it with the UMC-204HD which works great so far.

Overall it gets the job done and if you're on a tight budget it's not the worst, but personally I'd go for a nicer product if possible, even if in this specific line of behringer products. If you do go for this one just baby it because one drop and it'll never act the same.

Not terrible but i've run into a lot of issues

By Sweetwater Customer from Ohio on May 1, 2022

Let me just say first off this isn't a terrible interface for most things, but personally, I've been trying to record in DI and that comes with a major issue with this interface, the noise floor of this interface is really high (for those who don't know what that is quite yet, it's basically the static noise you get from the interface without anything being mic'd or plugged in) I like running really high gain effects and this becomes somewhat of an issue when the static you could barely hear before is running through 3 gain stages, if you're looking to use this for a podcast or just to have a better mic for playing games and streaming, it's a great interface for you, if you're looking to run your guitar or bass through a daw when practicing or recording, you'll run into some issues, also native software for this is a pain to find considering there is actual Behringer software for the interface but it is not listed on their site

Disappointing

By Eric Kilgore from Richmond, MI on November 21, 2021

Was a toss up between this and a competitive model. The price was right and I have had nothing be great success with Behringer products in the past so I called my rep and ordered one. How disappointing....I have had it about a year and have only used it about three times.
The first time that I used it, I heard a buzz, but chalked it up to my guitar set up, and was able to bury it in the mix. The next time I used it, to do a quick drum scratch track (just wanted to throw up a couple mics quickly and get the scratch track done); it had some kind of aliasing or digital distortion that was really disappointing [I was using mics and cables that I had used numerous times before and since without issue]. Another time I used it to record a voiceover for a video I was working on. It kept cutting in and out and I got so frustrated that I gave up on using it!

Some things you should know. It is made of cheap plastic, it is incredibly light and just feels cheap. I'm sure this is how they keep the cost point so low. The software that you must use to adjust bit rates, etc. is not very good or very self-explanatory. Luckily the price point is low enough if I have to throw it away, I won't cry too much....but rest assured, I will take a hammer and get some satisfaction from getting my frustration out before it hits the trash.

Works for what it is.

By Robbie B. on January 25, 2019 Music Background: Guitar abuser.

It does what it says in the fact that it allows you to get your guitar, mic or line level instrument into your pc. Uses AISO4All driver. Latency won"t go low enough to not cause weird artifacts in recording if you"re using any kind plugins. If you can wait save a little more and get a Focusrite 2i2 or something like that. You"ll be better off in the long run.

Noisy and requires a bit of effort to get working

By fngasser from east coast on September 21, 2016 Music Background: playing since mid 90s

Buying experience a pleasure. Very prompt shipping, good packaging.

The interface itself looks solidly built, though lots of plastic. Jacks, knobs and button seem solid enough. Setup was a bit of a hassle, after installing ASIO4ALL and fiddling a bit with control panels got it to work with Win10/Reaper.

I work directly to the computer and then apply VST effects (no amp micing). The high gain guitars sounded good enough, since they're gated, but the clean guitars were unacceptably noisy. Much more noise than the Line6 GX it was supposed to replace. I felt transported to my teen years, recording on cassette tapes, or perhaps recording with an ambient mic on the beach or windy outdoors. The Xenyx preamp is way too noisy. Had to send it back. If you're in the market for a cheap interface and don't mind the behringer brand, look for one with the Midas preamp, not the Xenyx, as it apparently is way better.

Nice Price

By Nick from Detroit MI on October 14, 2015 Music Background: Recording engineer,

In the video on the sweetwater web page, they refer to this piece as "plug and play". It is not that simple, I needed to download the ASIO driver from the behringer website(ASIO4ALL) Also after you select the UM2 as your audio driver in your DAW you still need to go one step further and access the driver control panel and select it again. Then I was having problems with the INST input( like many other users).
On my unit the inst input magically started working fine but other people needed to download an old behringer driver. After a couple small headaches I got everything working fine, and I am happy with the purchase. For $30 you cant really go wrong. I had a pair of behringer studio monitors years ago that I was happy with, but after this experience i probably wont be returning to behringer any time soon. But as always it was a pleasure doing business with sweetwater and will continue purchasing all of my gear from them.

Stereo-only output with 2 inputs connected? Ends up resulting in a very thin sound for both inputs.

By Mike from Pomona, CA on September 27, 2022

I have not been terribly happy with this little unit. Monitoring thru the headphones sounds great, however the output signal thru the USB seems limited to stereo-only when both mic and instrument are connected... this means when recording all vocals/mic input go to the right speaker and the instrument to the left. This makes both inputs sound weak and thin... I'd much rather have a balanced mono output with both mic & instrument feeding to both L and R right speakers.

Additionally, when I use this with GarageBand with both mic & instrument connected, I'm only able to select one input at a time, even having a stereo feed of both inputs is not an option.

I bought this with the intent to use both mic & instrument at the same time, so due to these limitations I'll get little to no use out of it.

Pretty Bad with ProTools

By Sweetwater Customer on February 26, 2022 Music Background: Music Major, Recording Student, Musician for over 15 Years (many instruments).

It makes you install a shoddy 3rd Party audio drive from Asio4All. And all its done is make my guitar audio choppy, clip and even cut out sound while also providing a lot of hiss. I've tried 10 different cables, 3 different guitars, it is either the audio drivers or this thing. But this thing makes you download excess audio drivers. Unless you are using Apple computers. I cannot recommend this. Go get a focusrite, this is not worth the cost. Feels like a waste of my money and time.

FocusRite even recommends against Asio4All. If that means anything. Berhingers Audio Drivers don't work on Windows 10 or 11. So, it's been fun. Probably going to refund mine.

Works, But Not Plug 'N Play

By Mark S from Goshen, IN on July 10, 2019

Spent several hours over several days getting this to "work" with Windows 10 due to driver issues and very poor documentation from Berhinger. Behringer's web support form didn't work, and Behringer does not offer a support phone #. I contacted Sweetwater and they were nice enough to put me in touch with a Behringer distributor and a rep from the company. Both of those guys were nice but Mac based and were not able to provide a solution.

So, if you purchase this you will need to go to the Behringer website and download generic ASIO4ALL v2 drivers to install. This unit was not plug 'n play. Behringer has an old, dedicated driver for other units that I could only get from the Behringer rep, but I tried it and it did not work. I don't recommend trying to find that old driver online because people will send you to links with drivers that might just be malware.

I don't know if it matters if the Behringer unit is already plugged into USB or not when you install the driver. When I plugged in the USB it installed a generic USB Codec. I went to Sound Settings in Windows and changed the output and input devices to that Codec.

Then I went over to my DAW / music multitrack software which in this case is Adobe Audition. Under preferences there is an Audio Hardware setting. (Your DAW will have something similar). I had to change the device class from MME (default) to ASIO. Once in ASIO I ensured the device was ASIO4ALL v2. But I also had to click Settings to further specify in the Device List that I wanted the Generic USB Codec for input and output. At times those had a red X and "unavailable." If you see that, try cutting/toggling off any competing devices, in my case Realtek HD Audio, by clicking the blue play icon next to them. Then I closed settings and tested levels and I could see the input was working.

Another thing I had to discover was that the XLR Mic/Line1 channel is mono left and the 1/4" Instrument 2 input is mono right. This means if I plugin my guitar into INST2 only the right channel will record. I will have to clone that channel to make the track stereo which is a disappointing extra step in my workflow. I also discovered with the INST2 that I need a guitar processor or a boost before the input or the output is pretty low.

If I switch over to my browser to watch a YouTube video I have to go to Windows Sound Settings and put the output back to the default Realtek Audio. So it's best to have dedicated time to music instead of flipping your input/output settings constantly.

I hope this saves someone else a ton of time. You may need to do different steps based on your setup. I would have purchased a much more professional interface from a more customer focused company than Behringer, but I needed something at this pricepoint.

Thank you to Sweetwater for being the middleman trying to get me support when it really was through no fault of your own.

And in all honesty, I open it up to view the electronics it seemed fine except for the USB port, it was very wobbly on the board so I solder the connectors but that didn't help so I guess I'm out of luck.

Couldn't figure out what was going on but finally find the right discussion, and it was nearly dead from day one. With phantom power on, the clip light stays on even with zero gain, and all cables are disconnected. The few times it did work, the audio was extremely grainy

Item was functional for one recording session. One! Maybe I just received a lemon, but I would stay away from this product.

Pure garbage

By Sweetwater Customer on February 19, 2021

Save yourself the time, energy, and stress...

No first-party drivers, and ASIO4ALL wouldn't detect either channel in Amplitude 5 or Mixcraft 8. I can hear channel 1 in Windows, but there's significant latency which would make it impossible to ever do multi-track recording.

Cheap

By Sweetwater Customer on January 8, 2021

The first one i received literally would not work. It wouldn't turn on at all. Even the tech support would tried his hard to get it to work realize the interface was just trashed, so I was sent a second. Everything was working fine then out of nowhere it starts crackling and popping. I know its not the connection cord because I got a new one. I also know its not the mic. I don't know if it just happened to me, but its annoying having to deal with a bad interface when your trying make music

Would be better to pay more for a good device

By Scott from Woodland, CA on March 31, 2019

Sweetwater is great.

This Behringer UM2 unit is noisy. Also, they don't provide any useful documentation so it takes some time to get it going. The "Tracktion" software is junk.

Used gear

By Steve from Michigan on July 20, 2018 Music Background: Producer, DJ, Artist.

This is the second time I purchased new and received used gear. The first um2 came out of the box scratched up and inst 2 didn't work. Sent it back and received the second um2 the next day. again used out of the box and this time the audio recorded was crackeled and distorted. I used multiple different cables and even tried routing my mic through a mixing board with no luck. Disappointing, I know it's a cheap unit but it should at least be functional.
