Ibanez UEWT5E Tenor Ukulele with Electronics and Cutaway - Natural Reviews

Tenor Ukulele with Sapele Top, Back, and Sides, Okoume Neck, Purpleheart Fingerboard, and Ibanez Electronics - Natural

The UEWT5E Tenor Ukulele is an example of Ibanez's dedication to impeccable craftsmanship and standout performance. This nylon-stringed ukulele has a sapele body and a harmonically complex Tenor shape. Although it's commonly used as a substitute for mahogany, sapele is an excellent tonewood in its own right. It has a warm tone, fast attack, and finishes with a tasteful treble zing. You'll appreciate the smooth playability of the okoume neck and purpleheart fingerboard. And for stage work, the UEWT5E comes with onboard Ibanez electronics for a natural sound. If you haven't given an Ibanez ukulele a try yet, Sweetwater recommends the UEWT5E Tenor Ukulele.

a nice upgrade

By nathan i from florida u.s.a. on May 18, 2023 Music Background: a creator

besides playing ukulele i also play and compose for guitar and bass guitar (and make art and write). this is my second uke. my starter was a walnut kala tenor (read my review there). i prefer the ibanez out of the two. much better tone; more ease to the neck; though out of the box i would say the action is high. uncomfortably so at the first fret. not a huge deal or a big surprise, but i'll deduct half a star for the detail. the kala had better action but lacked in tone. and although the kala neck was comfortable, the ibanez's is smoother. and the price is great for the value. only a few bucks more than the price the kala's are now going for. and the kala didn't have electronics. if you can handle the possible need for luthier work or can manage sanding down the nut yourself, i'd say just start with the ibanez. then you won't need to upgrade. hope this helps. thanks!
