Kala U-Bass Striped Ebony Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar Reviews

Short-scale Acoustic-electric Ukulele Bass with Ebony Top, Back, Sides, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and Fishman Electronics - Striped Ebony

Get amazing bass tone and exquisite looks with Kala's Striped Ebony Fretted U-Bass. The Kala U-Bass series is a truly unique line, offering players a compact instrument that puts out huge sound. Featuring a compact 21" scale, the U-Bass has made a name for itself as an instrument small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of a plane but big enough to fill a room with full bass sound. Many players, including those here at Sweetwater, have compared the tone and volume of the Kala U-Bass to that of an upright — big, full low end that is ideal for backing a variety of genres.

Fun portable instrument

By Justin Keebaugh from Tullahoma, TN on August 9, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist

The quality of the instrument is really good. When I first opened it and got to play with the rubber strings, I wasn't really too thrilled. It's not very loud honestly but it does have the options to plug in. It took me a little getting used to, but I'd say it's a pretty nifty instrument. It's a bass, but it's different... highly recommend it.

Very good and easy to play. Sound almost like an upright bass.

U-bass has a place.

I am our church bassist. I have five bases now from upright down to the U-bass. Got to play it at church last Sunday it was wonderful. That sounds just amazing.Still having to retune quite often. Definitely my favorite to play. I like the Fishman pick up.

Great for non professional purposes

the low e string on these basses are typically dead and quiet compared to the other three strings. This makes getting a good direct recording of the bass impossible! I Thought it was just mine but I found so many people with the same issue and even Sweetwater acknowledged that it is a common problem with the Kala. They don't consider it a defect with the bass however, so don't expect a replacement or fix.
