Kala Solidbody U-Bass Electric Bass Guitar - Tobacco Sunburst Reviews

4-string Electric Bass with Okoume Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and Single-coil Pickup - Tobacco Burst

Kala’s acclaimed super-short-scale bass building is infused with an all-electric twist with the 23.5-inch scale length solidbody U-Bass. This 4-string instrument is a blast to play for bassists of all backgrounds, including small-framed beginners, and makes an excellent companion for Tiny Desk-style performances, compact stage spaces, road trips, rehearsals, and more. But don’t be fooled by its diminutive build. The solidbody U-Bass is designed with playability at the forefront, which is why it’s structured with a comfortable “C”-shaped Canadian maple neck and 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. A custom all-okoume body with deep cutaways retains a solid weight and provides effortless access to every note you need. Meanwhile, a classic split-coil pickup with accompanying volume and tone controls generates the grooves, affording bassists access to virtually any tone, from tamed and plucky to bright and funky. Sweetwater bassists have found the added touches of die-cast 18:1 tuners, a PPS nut, and a custom pickguard shape put the solidbody U-Bass in a league of its own!

Small Size, BIG punch

By Jean Santos from New York, NY on January 2, 2024

Bought this to travel with. It's a great size even for a tall guy like me whose 6ft 2in. It feels solid like a full sized bass and is comfortable to play despite it's small stature. It fits easily in the overhead cabin on an airplane. Favorite part is it uses real strings. Some of these smaller basses from Kala use rubber/synthetic strings which I'm not too fond of.

It came with a very nice padded gig bag. Just wish the pocket was a little bigger. It fits cables easily but cannot fit a regular sized book of sheet music.

Bass has great sound too. Won't ever replace my Jazz bass, but this little Kala will be coming with me when I travel.

Wonderful Bass

By Guitarplayer747 on December 15, 2023 Music Background: Experienced guitar and ukulele player/performer. Newer to the bass, over the past year.

Bass is well made and has more heft than you would expect for it's size. Excellent playability and the intonation is spot-on. Depending on your amp and it's EQ settings (of course), the Kala bass tone control can take you from very warm and deep, to punchy and edgy. My only suggestion would be to make the tuner knobs bigger, like the ones on the Kala acustic/electric U-Bass. Also, would be nice if Kala would eventually offer a hard case. My acustic/electric Kala U-Bass fits in a baritone ukulele hard case but this solid body is too long. That said, the gig bag that comes with this solid body is well padded and makes it easy to carry on your back.

Kala UBass

By Shawn on November 15, 2023 Music Background: 35 year guitar tech

When I got my first UBass bass delivered, it had a bit of a rattle in the truss rod.
I contacted Sweetwater and they had a new bass on my porch the next morning ! (with an RA label in the box to send the other bass back)
Excellent service !
Always a good experience with these guys (and gals)
