Friedman Twin Sister 40-watt 2-channel 1x12" Tube Combo Amp Reviews

40-watt, 2-channel All-tube 1x12" Guitar Combo Amplifier with Custom Transformers, 3-band EQ, Series Effects Loop, Celestion G12H-150 Redback Speaker, and Footswitch

Ranging from smooth cleans to Friedman’s famous high-gain tones, the Friedman Twin Sister 40-watt tube combo amplifier delivers world-class performance based on the legendary JTM 45. If that sounds familiar, that's because the Twin Sister is essentially a two-channel version of their acclaimed Dirty Shirley tube amp. Whether you’re looking for clean, crunch, or molten leads, you’ll be able to dial it in. Crank up the preamp gain for modern lead tones, or back off the gain and crank the master for the explosive sound of raging 5881 power tubes. Each of the Twin Sister’s channels offers a Bright switch and three-way Gain switch that are incredibly useful for fine-tuning the amp's response for any type of pickups. Loaded with a beefy-sounding Celestion Redback G12H-150 speaker, you'll appreciate the Friedman Twin Sister’s versatility whether on stage or in the studio.

The Gates of Heaven

By Bradley McNeely from Lexington, KY on December 28, 2022 Music Background: Professional luthier. RS Guitarworks, Collings, Benedetto. 28 years playing music.

Holy Mary, mother of God! The best clean tones I have ever heard. Capable of crushing DOOM as well. The only thing questionable for this amp is super tight, technical metal.
Keith Klikas is my sales engineer and he takes care of whatever I need. Sweetwater is the best.
Worth every penny.

My Perfect Amp

By Chuck Van Newkirk from Oregon on October 26, 2022

In my 20's I had a Soldano Hot Rod 50 and 4x12 cab that was the best amp I've ever had. When I tired of giggling with that snakeskin monster I started using a 5150 combo, using channel 1 as a pedal platform and it worked surprisingly well that way. But it, too, was a pain to get around. Last year I sold all my large gear and was on the hunt for a 1x12 combo that could do it all. This is it. I run it with a Brown Box at 115 volts and it is the sweetest amp ever just at the edge of breakup. If I want hotter I'll hit that channel with my Bogner La Grange and it just sounds fantastic. The second channel I set the gain at 8 and max the gain and bright switches and hit it with a Buxom Boost for anything that requires extra gain. It is a crazy versatile amp and cleans up completely using just your volume knob.

Friedman Twin Sister Combo - WOW

By TNOURSE from Bentonville, AR on August 19, 2022 Music Background: 40 plus years

I waited a long time to make this purchase. Actually discussed the amp with Dave Friedman via email. Very helpful guy to say the least. Just received the amp over the weekend and spent all day and I mean all day playing. Straight through no effects just to get a feel for what this amp can do. Blown away!!
Then ran time based effects through the loop, very clear, does not impact tone at all. No drops or noise. Added phase 90 to the front, killer.
This amp can really cover just about all music styles. Love 70's and 80's but can event hit more aggressive metal but not my thing. Will need an OD pedal to do it.
The amp is well worth the money, for me. In my late 50's so no running around playing shows anymore. This is a pro tool. Big investment for home playing but if you want best in class Friedman is it.
Shout out to my go to guy at Sweetwater, Brendan Murphy. Always takes care of the customer.

the search is over. i have no idea what to say, if you can find one in stock some were, buy it. everything is perfect. two channels with a foot switch, enough power for a bedroom or to drown out john bonham. i didnt think my pedals would sound this good.

Twin Sister...... Its a Fire Burner....

By Chuck Hale from Richmond, Tx on March 27, 2021

Got one of the Demo Combo's could not really tell it wasn't new, I have a Friedman Runt 50 but this Twin Sister Combo is in a different league. It says the Combo comes with a Celestion G12M65 Cream Back but it comes with a Celestion G12H Red Back 150 watt this thing has killer Lows. I also had an Dirty Shirly Extention 1x12 cab with The G12M65 Cream Back so I stack the Combo on that and get a great 2X12 stack.

Impressive

By Sweetwater Customer from Perrysburg Oh on September 5, 2020 Music Background: 50 years of playing and rocking. No expert but love to play.

Just got Friday. Spent about 10 minutes getting the 2 sounds I use. Beautiful clean and very full classic rock crunch. Blows my Mesa triple crown away.
Will review further once I play a few gigs this week.

Severely disappointed

By Justin Colvard from Ballico, CA on October 10, 2023

I am having a hard time understanding the hype behind this amp. I purchased a combo thinking it would finally break me into boutique tone and quality. I was wrong. The twin sister combo is on par with a hot rod deluxe minus the reverb and 3.5 more expensive. When I first unboxed it I was taken back by the cheap feel it has. Its construction is decent, feels light weight cabinet and tolex are clean chassis is clean looking but that's it, just clean at best definitely not boutique by any means. At first it played decent. Sounded smooth no issues then fast forward 10 days or so and now it rattles and makes a small fizz noise when a deeper note is played. Probably just tubes but a brand new $3k amp should under no circumstances have an issue like this. The tone of the amp is something unto itself. I don't really hear or feel the "jtm" or marshall thing. It doesn't really get clean enough to play clean with any volume or dynamics and it doesn't get gainy enough to saturate properly and sustain. The speaker falls on its face when you put any volume to it and it gets flubby rather quickly. All in all it's sort of ok but not when you consider a dsl40 or hrd get you in the same realm and farther for a third of the price.
