All you need!

By Phillip N. from Conroe, TX
Music Background: Professional Bass player for over 30 years

Great pre- amp!!! Sounds amazing!!! Highly recommend!!! If you in ear it is great!!! Great for church players! Can run a line out to your amp if you wanna use it!

When using my amp I run into EFX return on back of my amp. Guitar cable out of line out on pedal to efx return on amp.

For most gigs with big PA's and in ears you don't need an amp! Easy load in and out and the sound man will thank you!!!

The perfect addition to my rig.

By Jim from Tamarindo, Costa Rica
Music Background: Play out 1-2 times per month

I play in a band that requires some gritty tones and some cleans that pop depending on the songs
I have been using both a Headrush FRFR 112 (for smaller gigs it acts as a monitor and goes direct to the mixer) or a Fender Rumble 500 for shows (which doesn't come with a footswitch) and needed to be able to add a foot switchthat would create two reliable tones that wouldn't change depending on which i was using.
The Transit B accomplishes all of the things I was looking for. I need to get dirty, it is UGLY! I wanna clean it up and slap a few things around, pop pop pop!
The pedal also adds in a great stage use tuner at the same time that is easy for my blind old self to see.
The first song I played with the DRIVE channel was "Ace Of Spades" and Lemmy would have been proud.

Great peramp

By Kendall G. from Indiana

Bought this about 3 months ago and it has been everything I was wanting. The DI outputs are clean and noise free, the build quality is great, and the possibilities of EQ shaping is almost endless. Would highly recommend!

Review not needed

By Lane M. from Mississippi
Music Background: Professional

I came to leave a review of this product but see that its not really necessary, as i agree with everyone else that its near perfect. I use this direct with an octave pedal and chorus on the front end. It does everything i need a bass preamp to do flawlessly. Works great into any backline situation and because all the bands i play with are on in ear monitoring, it works great going direct into FOH. I love the compressor and the tuner functionality, its dead simple to use and is super quick to get a good tone. Having inputs for both active and passive basses, plus functional options for output routing make it a great choice for any bass player needing a consistent device to gig with, but also works great as just a rehearsal device. This is engineered and built for bass players, not a modified guitar device, and it shows. buy one, you wont regret it.

Amazing Preamp

By Jon M. from Cottage Grove, MN

This unit is simply amazing. I've tried many over the years, and most have their strong points, but also tend to leave one wishing for more. Not with this one. Everything about this pedal is a 10/10. From design, to features, to all the tone possibilities, quality, and just the perfect simplicity, this pedal has it all. There is a reason all the reviews of this pedal are top level. So great to see that P has brought the Trace Elliott brand back to what we all used to love and expect in the old days. I can't imagine any bass player of any level not loving this preamp. Buy it, it's a home run product.

The best all-in-one preamp pedal for me

By James from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Professional Hobbyist

I am not a super-pro touring the world getting paid fat stacks to rock the world with my bass skills. I'm a dude who loves playing bass - jamming with buddies and playing at church. Our church has a "house" pedalboard consisting of an MXR compressor and SansAmp BDDI. It's OK, but not my favorite. I'm not great at dialing in a compressor and the MXR just seems noisy no matter what I try, and that's the same for everyone who has used it. The SansAmp is... you know what a SansAmp sounds like.

I was looking for something with a little more tonal control to be able to dial in upper and lower mids properly, and the 5 band EQ of the Transit B appealed to me on that front. I also liked the idea of a simple to use split-band compressor. I don't really use overdrive very much, but it's always a nice option, I guess. I don't really have any special affection for the TE "sound" and the pre-shape filter button, but I don't mind that it is there. I read tons of reviews both here and on TalkBass. This, the Badwater, a few Darkglass pedals, the GK Plex, the Radial Bassbone, and a few others were in the running, but I decided to get the Trace because of the good price, solid reviews, all of the features I wanted (plus extras) and what seemed to be solid build quality.

I've had it for about 4 months now, and it has FAR exceeded my expectations. The sound guy at church (who runs a concert production business and knows his stuff) has been really impressed with it. He's getting a super clean, strong signal that is making his life easier, and he is loving the sounds I am sending. He told me that on Sundays when I play, he just runs my signal straight through with no EQ, whereas he usually has to massage things a bit.

I LOVE the split-band EQ! Easy enough for a dope like me to use to GREAT effect! I don't use a ton of compression, but it does a great job of keeping me from falling out of the mix when I pull back on my attack, while still allowing me to keep dynamic for builds and really pushing during driving sections, etc. Speaking of, the overdrive is actually pretty nice! Bonus! I don't use it much, but I keep it dialed in pretty mild and have used it a couple times. The gain-matching that's built into the pedal is a really sweet bonus.

The 5 band EQ is simply phenomenal. The EQ points are exactly where I would want them. Having control of 3 bands of mids is just fantastic! This past Sunday I played my new Aerodyne Special Jazz (thank you, Sweetwater!) and it's just a little thin on the low end. Boosting the lows and low mids fattened things right up and made the J a monster. A traditional 3 band would have pushed too much of the center-mids and made it a bit more nasal than I would have wanted. With this EQ I can get exactly what I want, without having to boost any of what I don't want.

The tuner is great as well. The mute/tune switch is silent in operation (it's surprising how many tuners do NOT have silent on/off!) and the tuner reads quickly and accurately, including my 5 strings. The LEDs indicating the note are large and easy to see, as well are the rings surrounding each knob which are used to indicate sharp/flat/in-tune.

I think this is a REALLY well-designed and smartly-engineered pedal. It's nice and hefty with a solid metal case (aluminum, maybe?), high quality switches, and smoothly operating knobs/pots. Ins and outs are plentiful and more than I need, but the flexibility is great. It's a great pedal at any cost, but at this price, it's an ABSOLUTE STEAL, imho. At MINIMUM, this is 5 separate pedals in one (DI, EQ, Tuner, Compressor, Overdrive), but they are actually GOOD.

Yes, you could get more precise control of some effects by getting dedicated, fancy pedals for each effect. Each of those might cost more than this whole pedal, as well! For high-quality and ease of use, grab-and-go simplicity, this thing is just what I needed. I appreciate the nice carrying bag with room for cables, power supplies, etc. I am still impressed with how much I love this thing. It is a fantastic value. I highly recommend it if you are looking to either simplify a giant pedalboard down to the necessities, or if you are looking to step up to your first integrated preamp solution.

Matt South has been my SW rep for years and is always super helpful. I definitely recommend giving him a shout if you don't already have a dedicated rep. Rock on!

Low Tone Hero

By Low T. from State College, Pa
Music Background: Playing 25 yrs.

As an unsettled bass player, tonal character is something of an enigma in my world, however now I've found the Trace Elliot Transit B (although I'd be remiss to not mention that I've found some tremendous value bass guitars with great tonal qualities at Sweetwater recently). I've tried a few pedals over the years to include Sans Amp and other effects, however one that I was always missing was a good compressor. While all of my effects pedal experiments had digital versions of compression, they did't seem to perform all that well. The Transit B has a dual band compressor; if your not familiar with compressors or what they do, you need to research these gems to appreciate why a dual band is great, especially for bass. The compressor is why I first looked a the Transit B, but it comes with a whole lot more. It's a pre-amp, with a 5 band active EQ for true tone sculpting, a Trace Elliot foot switchable preset to get the legendary Trace mid-scoop sound, a switchable over-drive with blend control, input & output level controls... you get the idea. This is a feature packed pre-amp, and for a guy like me, I've found my favorite, do everything I need it to do, pedal. What few reviews, especially video, that you can find are nearly all 5 star, including one or two that are from recording engineers that are apparently using this unit in place of a rack system. I believe most bass players, especially weekend warriors, would find this pedal to be the bests addition to their rig - it would replace your Compressor, EQ, OD, Tuner, Bass Boost & Pre-amp, with one unit. Buy one, it's great! And as always, Sweetwater is the best!

Wow.....this thing is a BEAST!!!

By Wildnorth from Louisville KY
Music Background: Semi Pro

Never been so happy with a purchase! This unit is a home run. I decided to pick up a Transit B to simplify my board. I am really impressed with this little unit to the point that it has replaced EVERYTHING on my board.

A quick synopsis of the features:

Tuner: Works perfectly on a 4 string bass (all I play). Nice bright lights, and extremely accurate. Tuner pedal no longer needed.

Compression: This two band effect works as good as my Keeley bassist.....honestly a little better. I love the idea of compressing the highs a bit while keeping the lows a little more open to keep the low end "pulse" going 100% while smoothing out my playing a bit. Absolutely no loss of low end like you get with a lot of compressors. Compressor pedal no longer needed.

EQ: Works as expected, and nice to have it footswitch-able should you want to turn it off for any reason.

Drive: More of an OD than a distortion, but very musical nonetheless. The blend control is the secret sauce here, and it works very well. No loss of lows. Drive pedal no longer needed.

Pre-shape: I had an EQ on my board for those few times I do some slapping in my rock cover band. No longer needed. This button instantly scoops the mids while boosting the lows and highs and puts you into slap-land with a single foot stomp. EQ pedal no longer needed.

This little unit allows me to rid my board of my Keeley compressor, my MXR 10 band EQ, my Barber drive pedal, my tuner, and my Tech 21 VT Bass DI. It's everything I was hoping it would be. I ended up replacing everything on my board with this one unit (and my wireless)

Everything I need.....nothing I don't. Sounds phenomenal!

Bottom Line: I honestly do not know why these aren't more popular. Well Done Trace/Peavey!

Good pedal with great tones

By Ace from Lansing, Michigan

I’ve been playing bass for 36 years and have acquired a lot of pedals, but this one is the best I’ve owned. I run out of it into my GK rig and it sounds great. The tuner feature is great and the compressor section is awesome. If you want the classic Trace sound just hit the switch and you got it. I’m not a big fan of the overdrive section on this pedal hence the 4.5 rating I give it. Another con is the knobs are hard to see on a dark stage. All in all I love it and it works great with headphones for practicing without an amp. Also, as usual, great service and quick shipping from Sweetwater!

Trace Elliot Transit B Rocks

By Paul from New Rochelle, NY

Built like a tank. Great sound and fairly easy to set up. Having the tuner on board makes this pedal gig perfect. I just put away 3 pedals from my board and replaced them with this..... perfect bass pedal.

Incredibly Clean

By Ricky from Tucson
Music Background: Musician, recording and mix engineer

I own and operate a small recording studio and recently acquired this piece of gear to add to my bass guitar "palette." Usually, I will track bass using either the gear that the musicians bring in, straight into a mic preamp with some VST bass emulation, through my SansAmp or a combination of the three.

I decided to pull the trigger on this unit based solely on reviews and without ever hearing it. I tried it out for the first time during a recording session a few days ago, and I cannot believe how astonishingly clean and versatile this piece of gear is! What really shocked me the most was what I was able to hear when listening to the rough mixes of the songs that we had recorded. Through the wall of quasi-leveled, un-EQed and unprocessed drums, guitars and vocals, I could hear every single bass note so clearly and articulately!!! I am now favoring this unit the most when it comes to bass recording!

The Transit B is, hands down, a great bass DI!!!

Solid sounding

By Bass D. from Greater Chicago Area
Music Background: Long time player

Used this preamp in conjunction with a PLX Series QSC power amplifier and bi-amped Mark Bass cabinets. The sound reminded of my Trace RAH 400 SMX system with the Trace cabinets I sold, but I still use my trace amplifier practices, Just got tired of lugging it around due to its old school weight. This pedal has some great tone shaping capability and solid sounding circuitry.I also has a lot of the features that started my use of Trace amplifiers in the first place. I have a lot of amplifier options to use for gigs, but this has quickly become a favorite. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 instead of a 5 was due to the knob marking. They are hard to see when your in any given venue, and I need to adjust tones to tailor my sound to the venue I'm performing at. This pedal sounds awesome.

Great Solution

By Sweetwater Customer

Most of my gigs are using in-ears ....so recently added this to my collection...sounds like the Trace Elliot I remember. Compressor is very usable. Only complaint is it can be hard to see the position of the knobs...but I haven't really had to change anything ...sounds amazing.
