Two Notes Torpedo Captor Reactive Loadbox DI and Attenuator - 4-ohm Reviews

Load Box, Direct Box, Attenuator, and Speaker Simulator - 4 ohm

Play your tube amplifier at neighbor-friendly volume levels, or play without a speaker cabinet at all, with the Two Notes Torpedo Captor reactive load box, direct box, attenuator and speaker simulator. Based on the acclaimed Torpedo Reload, the Torpedo Captor is your solution for attenuating your amp's volume as well as sending your tone direct to a PA or recording system. Suitable for amps up to 100 watts, the Torpedo Captor's -20dB attenuator allows for cranked-amp tones at lower volume levels. And built-in speaker simulation allows you to record the full sonic intensity of your amplifier direct to your DAW, without miking up a speaker cabinet.

Magical black box

By Dana on July 2, 2021

I've have a vintage Vibrolux, and using this has enabled me for the first time to hear amp in all it's glory without worrying about the original Jensen speakers, or my eardrums. Still haven't used the line out yet, but did get the speaker sim DI going after a bit of fiddling. Really love it.

My Captor Has Made Me Love My Amp Again

By David Parker from Reno, NV on April 22, 2020

I've had one of these since last August and it has totally performed as advertised. Has it allowed me to capture my amp's sound as I record directly into my computer DAW? No problem. Does it let me crank my amp a little more at home without annoying the neighbors? Absolutely. Yeah, it does all that stuff and more at a very decent price. It's fantastic. Now, I just wanted to report that it also does one other (possibly unintended) thing I've never seen documented anywhere else — it quiets down my noisy amp! I happen to have one of the older "Custom" Vibrolux Reverb amps from Fender and these particular amps have a well-deserved reputation for being noisy, and mine is no exception. Anyway, to make a long story short, my Captor pretty much eliminates the crazy hiss from this amp when I'm using it in the attenuation mode. It's crazy. I have no idea why or how this is happening. It just is, and I'm very happy. So, not only does the Captor do what it's supposed to do, it has made my old CVR much more useable. I've stopped thinking about replacing it. Thanks, Two Notes!

Best addition I’ve made

By Drake (Not the rapper) from Seattle on October 6, 2019

This thing is a game changer for my workflow. Living in a house with my 10 month old, I needed something that would let me fill my neurotic desire to use my amp on every song. The Wall of Sound plugin allowed me to achieve the same tone as my Supro Royal Reverb does on its own. Coupled with the -20db attenuation, I can easily blend the DI/speaker sim track with the live track all while my child remains undisturbed. Really a great value for the price, most versatile piece of equipment I own.

So Good! Ty James M

After some (hour) setting up this Captor rocks. The wall of sound is outstanding and fun. Check it out. Keep th great times at a low volume. Record with amps and mics you didn"t spend $1,000s on.

Fenders combo,s friend

By Duane H from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on January 1, 2018 Music Background: It,s not the wrong note, just the wrong moment in time

I think this is a great product, I have a couple of 4 ohm Fender combo,s of vintage descent and with the Captor, I can hear them again loud and proud (with headphones or using the -20db attenuator) without waking the neighbors. The only problem I,ve found is not with the unit itself, but with the selection of IR,s that are available for Fender combo,s like 10 and 12 inch speaker models. The Captor, is solid as a rock and made for just that, ROCK and ROLL or anything in between! Enjoy boys and girls, just make sure to use a speaker cable from amp and not a guitar cable.

Flexible and solid

By Sweetwater Customer on August 22, 2018

The flexibility of the Captor is what drew me to it. I can record directly from this box without going to a speaker or I can play my Fender Twin or Mesa head through the speakers and go past 2 without disturbing others or blowing my eardrums apart. Or I can record and go through a speaker at the same time. As you know, most tube amps need to be pushed to get the best sounds and the Captor lets you do that at reasonable levels. It works passively as a loadbox and when recording you can feed it with phantom power or an AC adapter. It is solidly built.

I was not able to get their speaker simulation software working, which is why I gave it 4.5 starts rather than 5. If I could change anything about the Captor it would be that each box could switch between 4, 8, and 16 ohms.
