Uber Modulation

By Matthew M. from Mosinee, WI

I am putting together a smaller pedal board and wanted some modulation effects like phasor and chorus. Well this has that and a bunch more. It will take me awhile to mess with them all but that's half the fun. Wampler is definitely one of my favorite pedal companies. They make amazing stuff.

Good sounds, lots of features.

By Jasco from MURFREESBORO, TN
Music Background: Guitarist, recording engineer

Very good modulation pedal with all the standard modulation effects you would need. Easy to use. The sounds are really good for digital.

I use it to replace my large modulation pedal board for smaller gigs/stages. My large board has high quality analog single-effect pedal versions of all the effects in the Terraform. The big board sounds better, but takes up more room and is much more expensive than the Terraform. So, for the price and small footprint, you won't find better tones or a better value than this the Terraform for modulation, in my opinion.

That being said, on recording sessions I still always use my big board.

Could never quite feel comfortable with it

By George L. from LEBANON, OR

I've had this pedal for a long time and today it went into the closet. While the signal is true by-pass, the lights on the thing are not and it lights up all over the place all the time as long as it's plugged in. Other then that, I just don't use flangers, phasers, Midi and the like really, so it's just not my sound. The knobs are plasticky and cheap feeling for an expensive Wampler pedal, Brian you can do better. The size is pretty bulky also as the input/output are on the side making the thing even wider then it already is. I had it mounted sideways on my board. I see Wampler is using this form factor for other pedals also now, I won't be picking one up. I guess that it would be cost effective if you want a bunch of oddball effects in a single package, but like I said, it's not for me.

NOT perfect, but...

By Fred H. from Evansville, IN
Music Background: Rock

I bought the Metaverse delay pedal from Wampler and absolutely loved it! This got me wondering if they made a similar pedal for modulation. Enter the Terraform! I bought this pedal with some hesitancy because I've never been totally satisfied with digital modulation multi-pedals. I've had the Strymon Mobius and Eventide Modfactor and found them to have great features, but cold digital tone, at least to my ears. The Terraform is a different animal. All the sounds are very warm and very musical. The MIDI control is just a bonus at this point. However, it does have a few limitations. First, like the Metaverse, it does not accept CC commands from an external controller. Any real-time parameter control must be done by an expression pedal plugged directly into the Terraform. Also, UNLIKE the Metaverse, the Terraform will NOT accept an external clock source. You must use the tap tempo on the pedal. The manual implies that it does, but it does NOT. I contacted Wampler about this and they confirmed it. They said they were working on that for future versions. All that being said, these are things that are of little importance to me as the sound of this pedal is the best I've heard. So, in spite of the few shortfalls, I highly recommend the Terraform! Shout out to my rep, Cody Kraus...you ROCK!!

Easy to use and great sounds

By Eddie N.

The pedal is simple to use and provides high quality FXs. Slight learning curb but Brian Wampler has a 30 minute demo video on youtube. Fo the price it's worth it. Originally I purchased the walrus audio M1 but it was buggy half the time and required a significant learning curb, so I exchanged it for this and never looked back.

Awesome pedal

By Daniel V. from York, PA

This pedal is great, every patch sounds fantastic, and the pre/post routing makes it extremely useful regardless of your setup, just be careful with that pre/post switch when you first get it if you're only running through a single input and output. If you don't have it switched off pre/post mode you won't hear anything on some patches.

My only complaint, which I get is a bit of an odd one, is the pedal is really small. It's great for squeezing it into a smaller pedalboard (especially when you consider how many pedals this can replace!) but you really can't read anything on the box itself. I'm 40, so not exactly geriatric but not a kid either, and I can't read half of the labels on this thing, and especially the selector knob (labels look different in different pictures) the font is so small and the purple light is so bright that I have never been able to make out what any of them actually say unless I'm shining a light on it and crouching right on top of it.

It feels like this is a "junior" version of a larger pedal, and the larger version would probably be useful. Maybe they should make an "old man" version that is 1" x 1" larger with a somewhat legible font.

GAME CHANGER

By Matt F. from San Diego
Music Background: Professional

This pedal blew me away. Each individual effect sounds as good or better than any single pedal you could make making this an insane value. The routing options with the built in effects loop are unheard of. I can't say enough good things about this thing. Every effect is a banger. Standouts are the rotary, and the dimension chorus, but every single one is a standout.

Pretty Darn Close to Perfect

By Bill B. from Emporia, KS
Music Background: Currently praise and worship guitarist in my sixth decade of playing guitar.

I love modulation. Maybe too much. This is all of the mod effects I have ever wanted and more. This replaces a Boss Tremolo and JHS Chorus on my board with two trems (harmonic and standard) and two chorus (dimension and standard) that work beautifully in stereo. I was really excited to use the univibe and rotary functions with an expression pedal and I am not disappointed. Im a praise/worship guitarist and a big plus for me is the auto swell setting. I can use this to swell the first note of an arpeggio and not effect the subsequent notes while maintaining even rhythms without having to work a volume pedal. Don't know that I'll have much use for the auto wah or envelope follower, but who knows? I may be inspired.
If I could change anything it would be to replace the preset button with a dedicated foot switch, leaving the tap tempo switch exclusively for tempo.
I have mine set up for normal routing. My rig is set up for mono only, as that's the way the FOH at my church works. I've listened to the stereo implementation, and it is amazing , allowing control of panning left to right in real time which is so cool for tremolo effects. I have not attempted any of the pre/ post setup features, but it's nice he know the options are available.
All things considered, I'm very pleased with the purchase and feel it's a good value even if it's kind of pricey, due to the excellent build quality, aesthetic design and depth of controls, and above all, the excellent quality sounds.

Top of the Line Mod Sounds, all in one package

By Bobby G. from Nashville
Music Background: Almost forty years playing, spent time as a studio guitarist in college, one half of Banks & Guy,

Brian Wampler NAILS it. Again. The Terraform sound quality is excellent, and the mods are right in the sweet spot. On this pedal, it's easy to find "that" flanger tone, "that" dimension chorus sound, "that" univibe, and "that" sound on 8 other mods. Yes, you can do a lot more — the pedal has versatility and you can get out there with the mod sounds if you want. But the problem with some multi-mod pedals is that it's hard to find the sweet spots, and the versatility means they're always in the outside places. Not the Terraform. It lives in the zone. And the manual gives examples of 3 cool different settings for each of the 11 mods. This pedal provides 11 mods with a dial (and when you pick a mod, it goes to the default settings for that mod, instead of you having to change all the dials for each mod - very smart). There are 8 presets, easy to update to taste (and you can always return to factory presets if you like). The pedal has very smart (but straightforward) pre- and post- routing options for effects to put the Terraform before or after your drive pedals. It has onboard tap tempo, and it has midi functionality if you need that. And it's a small footprint - this is the same size as a Keeley workstation.

The tap tempo becomes the preset selector if you hold it down for 3 seconds. The one knock on this pedal is that it advances the preset when you hold the tap tempo button down again to turn it back into tempo selection. There are four easy solutions short of a firmware upgrade (Any thoughts, Mr. Wampler?) - get the presets like you want them and don't worry about tap; use midi to advance presets; advance the presets by hand with the preset button; or, hold tap down to change presets, and hold it down again to get out - which advances to the next preset - so if you've got your presets lined up right, you're in great shape.

Great pedal, great sounds, the right size, and well built. It's going to be on my board for a long time.

Excellant pedal

By Jeff A. from Central Indiana
Music Background: 55 years of stage and studio music and still kicken it!! AH-1 pilot, Warrant Officer Army veteran and avid patriot.

My first chorus, flanger and phaser pedals were original EHX's in about 70, and they are still very hard to beat. I have had MXR, BOSS, Diamond (over priced boxes), Ibanez with the butterfly on it and 'pre-butterfly.....a bunch of modulation pedals including those in the GT100 and Digitech multi pedals. The Wampler Terraform comes as close to studio stuff as I have yet to use in a nice size pedal. If the BOSS MD-200 is as they say, a collection of their single circuits in one box, I don't see how it could be -any better- than the Terraform. The wide range of the Phase and Flange are outstanding and the Univibe and rotary are spot on too.
Brian is a genius at hiring the right people to design and build his stuff. I enjoyed watching him destroy a Tumnus Deluxe but I really doubt that thing has that much flammable stuff in it. If he would send me one I would like to verify that.... Sweetwater has my address Brian :-) My boards are populated with Wampler boxes, Paisley Deluxe, Gearbox, Tumnus, Hot Wired and now the best small footprint multi-modulation pedal around.
Thanks.

Yeah, it's worth the hype.

By Jeff
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist

I really, really love this pedal. I've been looking to consolidate my love for so many types of modulation into just one unit. My guitar rig has been very satisfyingly slimmed down. The Variable and Blend knobs are key to dialing in a satisfactory sound in every effect! The pre/post feature is magnificent. There was so much thought put into this unit.

I'm giving this a 4.5 due to a few TINY things that slightly bother me. I'm not the biggest fan of the flanger and I wish Wampler chose to model it off of something else with less of a midrange-heavy 'filter-like' sound. Additionally, a few stereo-oriented parameters (stereo width of the phaser or tremolo, for instance) don't have any function when used in mono. Most guitar/keyboard/bass rigs are mono and it would have been great if the Variable knob got re-assigned to control feedback or wave shape when the pedal's being used in mono. If there's ever a Terraform V2, this would be a great feature to throw in!

quality modulation effects

By Joseph F. from GA

I've had this for a year now, and waited for posting a review. Considering my favorite effect is Dirt, I tend to not be much of a modulation guy, except maybe some chorus here and there to color some clean tones. But, I'm a fan of the Tumnus and Brian Wampler in general so I figured why not add an all in one modulation solution to my board. I considered the Strymon and boss but I don't like the size of either and I tend to be a minimalist, and I prefer simplicity. I think Brian got it right here, its small, and has a four cable option. I can have the phase go in front but the other effects in the loop. Very cool, has presets and midi, what more can you want. The modulations all sound really good too, my fav being the dimension chorus and phaser. To me just three of the effects make it worth it, plus it doesn't take up a bunch of board space. If you mostly play rock and don't use too much modulation, but want to have the option, this is the solution

Great effects

By Patrick from IN

The pedal itself has so many great sounding effects! I think for me to tap into the full potential, I need a midi controller for presets and easier switching.

Truely will never come off the board. It covers all major algorithm players require from (Slick, subtle or Outlandish) when you need it to be.

Wampler put a lot the work into this Pedal.

Great Multi effects

By Joshua
Music Background: Guitarist 20 years

Wampler killed it with this pedal. All the classic effects are there and sound just as good as you'd expect. But the extra tweakablility in the knobs allow for some unconventional uses like turning the rotary into a lofi AM radio type of thing and with the pre and post routing option you just can't beat it.

It is worth it

By Michael L. from Vero Beach, FL
Music Background: Former touring musician, current bedroom player

Wanted the Terraform for a while, but decided to try and save some cash and got the mod11. Instantly regretted. Finally decided to put up the extra cash and grab this pedal instead, and am so happy I did. Nothing sounds fake, every setting sounds great. I always want to try different mod sounds, and it's a real space saver to have them all, with high quality, in one box. Presets and pre/post routing, on top of great sound and quality, put this over the top. Thanks to Zach and the Sweetwater team for being awesome.

First wampler pedal = top notch stereo modulation

By Mark G. from Atlanta
Music Background: 30 years... serious player

This is my first sampler pedal. I got to hang out w him at woodshed guitar experience and learned a lot of the history of the company. Andy wood recommended this pedal and I got to hear it on his pedalboard. The High Landron tone he nailed so I had to have one. I'm very impressed. Been playing hardcore for 30 years and owned just about everything worth owning. Highly recommend!

Amazing modulations!

By Brent

It's hard to believe how much is packed into this small pedal! The sounds don't sound digital at all to me either. I'm still learning my own presets but live the factory defaults also! Thanks to Paul Lea and sweetwater once again for all they do!

A lot of power in a little package

By Matt from Oregon
Music Background: 30+ years of playing, recording and mixing

This pedal packs a punch, while avoiding the needless complexity of menus and banks like so many other digital pedals. I found that you can just start turning knobs and quickly dial in good tones without reading the manual - but reading the manual will definitely help you hone in on the nuances of how the different patches work. All of the effects are top notch. I particularly like the rotary, tremolo, and harmonic tremolo patches as they are effects I more commonly use, but everything is great. Everything sounds rich and lush. Running this into a 2 amp setup to take advantage of the stereo effects is particularly satisfying!

Hugely Impressed

By John from Athens, GA
Music Background: 35 years experience

My pedalboard has pedals from Strymon, Source Audio, KMA Machines, Decibelics, EHX, Shift-Line, Keeley and now Wampler. I had been wanting a phaser and a flanger to go on my board but space is tight. I thought about trying to squeeze the Strymon Mobius on it but it would have made putting the cover of the pedal board on impossible unless I disconnected some cables. Not what I wanted to do. I figured I'd get one and forgo the other until I saw the Terraform. Coming from Wampler I knew it would be good but I must say, I am really impressed by how good! Every effect is top notch (phaser is currently my favorite) and I was actually able to take my chorus pedal off the board, freeing up space for something else on that usually can't fit.

My tube amp, which is the fabulous BluGuitar Amp One, fits on the pedalboard too and has an effects loop built in. Currently, I am running the Terraform in front of the amp but it can be configured to a four cable system allowing you to run the effects you want in front of the amp and the ones you want in the FX loop. Just haven't gotten around to doing this yet.

Thanks to by sales engineer, Nicholas Weaver, who takes great care of me!

Impressive unit!

By Art from Arcadia CA
Music Background: Studio Owner/Cover band performer

Great sounds, super easy to use. I just plugged in and started up. Without reading the manual I was able to figure out how to save my own presets and scroll through them with the tap tempo. The small size is very pedalboard friendly. Shout out to my rep Cliff Hackleman for helping me with my order.
