Fender Player Plus Telecaster - Silver Smoke with Pau Ferro Fingerboard Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Pau Ferro Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - Silver Smoke

Contrary to popular opinion, Telecasters aren't limited to twang-inflected chicken pickin'. Case in point: The Fender Player Plus Tele. This solidbody electric guitar's Player Plus Noiseless pickups are equally at home with jazz, blues, and rock as they are with country, plus they don't produce 60-cycle hum — even if you plug into a saturated amp or a fuzz pedal. On top of that, the Player Plus Tele includes a series mode for expanded sonic textures. A modern "C"-shaped neck and 22-fret, 12-inch-radius fingerboard give you a decidedly contemporary feel with fast action and comfortable playability. You also get a synthetic bone nut, modern 6-saddle string-through bridge, and Fender deluxe cast/sealed locking tuners. If you appreciate classic Teles but crave modern playability and a broader tonal palette, pick up the Player Plus Telecaster. But be forewarned — you won't want to put it down.

Great Guitar

By Matt from Alabama on March 18, 2024

I have had this telecaster for a little over 2 years now and I have really enjoyed playing it. Good quality guitar. The only downside to it is that the fretboard is a bit smaller than I like but that is minor

Awesome guitar!

First off, shout out to my sales engineer Nate Kauffman for his great service.

There is so much to like about this guitar...
1) The neck shape, sating finish on the neck, 12" radius, and rolled fingerboard make this axe super easy to play
2) Pickups sound amazing and are great for both blues and rock
3) I've had this for over a year, and outside of string changes I haven't had to make any adjustments
4) The weight and belly carve make this super comfortable to play

I am very happy with this guitar and is one of my daily players.

Thanks again Sweetwater and Nate for another positive purchase!

ok, ive owned tons of guitars. this player is by far the best. i dont know what the plus is, but, ...there is a plus side to this guitar. Now, i must say i had this thing plek'd and frets polished by Sweetwater's repairshop. My Lord, what a difference. I am sure of the techs are fantastic...but Bert worked on mine. It is perfect. I know... I know... you have heard this before 100 times. I cant give you specifics cause there are too many. I will spend the cash, get it setup correctly by Sweetwater before they ship any of my next guitars to me. Its "that" worth it. Im tellin you guys and gals and people try it once and see the amazing everyday instrument you end up with. Im sittin here jammin for hours having fun...no fretting out on the higher registers, no weird notes, bending like a winding road without issues, no string rolling off the edge of the fretboard, intonation "on the money". This guitar is a genuine pleasure to play. Ive logged more hours on this axe in two weeks than others nice guitars ive had for years! I owe 80% of the tribute to you guys in the repairshop. Really cool dudes that know what the heck they are doing. There professionalism and craftsmanship really puts my mind at ease. I trust them completely. I had to write this for all those, who are like me and cant set up a guitar properly. Give your new guitar a chance, get it setup by Sweetwater repair shop.

Great Guitar; Modern Appointments

By Sweetwater Customer on January 20, 2022

I have had this guitar for nearly a month and have clocked upwards of 30 hours of play on it. I also have a Player Plus Strat that I love; and the specs on the two guitars are similar: rolled edges on a pau ferro fingerboard, satin finish on the neck, 12 inch radius fingerboard, locking Fender tuners, and noiseless pickups. The fit and finish on mine is perfect and the set-up out of the box was spot on - just like with my Strat. These are all of the things that I love about my Strat; so they make this Tele an easy purchase.

I love the belly cut, which makes the guitar much more comfortable to play (both sitting and standing) than the traditional Tele body. The pickups are very good, if not quite vintage in their tones. I have had Teles that had more spank in the bridge and more warmth in the neck; but these are very good pickups and are nicely balanced with each other so that the middle position is excellent. The push-pull on the tone pot puts the middle position into series and offers a volume boost in all positions that mimics a clean overdrive. It's very easy to engage this feature on the fly and it's really nice for helping your leads to cut through a mix.

Overall, this is a great guitar and a clear upgrade from the Player series.

Finally chose a guitar based on the actual playability!

By Michael Downing from Griffin georgia on December 28, 2021 Music Background: Playing for over forty years. Never played in an actual band, never wanted to be a rock star but frequently jam with friends

I've been playing guitar for the past 44 years. I own some cool guitars that just appealed to me for various reasons. I have a 1977 Gretsch Super Axe I came across and bought because it was weird like me and my life officially started in 1977 when I moved out of my folks house to attend college. I've owned Les Pauls, SGs, a Guild S70 AD (amazing guitar), a telecaster and a Strat, all bought spur of the moment. Then just before Christmas my wife said she wanted to get me a new guitar and the search was on. I decided I would really be thoughtful and choose one for all the right reasons.. After tons of research and wearing out my welcome at the local guitar store, I settled on the Player Plus Telecaster in "Silver Smoke." I loved being able to pick out the exact instrument I wanted. It arrived in 3 days and was the best protective packed item I've ever seen. There were several friends over when it arrived, and when I pulled it from the box there was an audible gasp in the room. It's simply the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. The workmanship is flawless. But the best thing was how it felt to hold it. This guitar is "alive!" It reminded me of how it feels to close the door on a Bentley. It exudes quality and the whole transcends the sum of the parts. And the sound? Crispy, clean, full, deep, subtle and nuanced. I could have chosen almost any guitar (within reason), but I chose this one because it fits me perfectly. I'll never buy another guitar because of the name on the headstock or where it was made. Thank you Sweetwater and Fender, y'all have made an old rock and roll Junkie extreamly happy!

Totally Awesome!!

By Thomas Bennett from Eastlake, OH on December 18, 2021 Music Background: Just a picker, and a grinner.

Absolutely love it!! Literally played right out of the box. The good folks at Sweetwater are amazing! I kid you not, the guitar was in tune out of the shipper. The clean sounds are crystal clear, and the dirty sounds are some of the rudest sounds I've heard come from a guitar. The "Plus" is definitely noticeable!

So close to perfect

By Christopher Crosbie from New Hampton, NH on January 16, 2022 Music Background: Recording artist -Chrisdigital

This is a fantastic and unique instrument for sure. Had a issue with the nut being cut horribly and off center though.
I wish fender would get this issue sorted in production. This price range of guitar should not be having issues like this.
I ended up having to pay out of picket to have Sweetwater replace the nut with a bone nut. My squire at half the price was perfect. Over all I an happy I bought this tele, just may not do fender again as a choice for new in the future.

Pretty disappointed.

By Daniel Gravley from OAK HILL, WV on December 31, 2021

Had been wanting a Telecaster to add to my collection for awhile and this seemed like a good go between. I got it and the neck was bowed and the truss rod adjustment tool that came with it didn't fit. The fretwork is pretty shoddy with multiple frets rising out of the fingerboard. The gig bag that comes with it is paper thin with no padding. On the plus side the pickups do sound very nice and the finish looks great. Wish I could return it at this point. I feel like I wasted my money.
