Fender Player Telecaster - Butterscotch Blonde with Maple Fingerboard Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - Butterscotch Blonde

Some folks think Telecasters are a twanging one-trick pony. They obviously never played a Fender Player Series Telecaster. Loaded with dual Alnico V single-coil pickups, the Fender Player Telecaster delivers everything from country twang to jazzy articulation to high-octane rock 'n' roll — and anything in between. A modern "C"-shaped neck and 22-fret, 9.5-inch-radius fingerboard give you a decidedly contemporary feel with fast action and comfortable playability. You also get a synthetic bone nut, 6-saddle string-through bridge, and Fender standard sealed tuners. If you appreciate classic Telecaster tone but crave a more modern favor, pick up the Fender Player Series Telecaster. But be warned — you won't want to put it down.

Love it!

By MA from DENVER, CO on February 26, 2024 Music Background: 45 years n counting

Bought this to replace my old MIA tele that grew legs a few years back, and honestly the build quality is better than the old one. Frets are good n level, I did polish them but out of the box they were fine, just my ocd kicking in. No sharp edges on either side. I thought that maybe I'd have to replace the pups, but nope, they sound like they're supposed to. Pots are nice n smooth, pickup selector quiet. I did swap the tuners with a set of locking/ staggered Fender's. There was nothing wrong with the stock ones, but I like the staggered version to help with the string break, and lockers add a little extra mass to the headstock. I also flipped the control plate. More personal preference than anything else. As mentioned, this guitar sounds great plugged in, but more n more I find myself grabbing it when I'm working on something unplugged and noodling around. Just a great overall guitar. Shout out to Ryan and Matt in sales, and the rest of the crew. I've ordered quite a bit from Sweetwater, and customer service has always been above par. I just wish FedEx would up their game.

High quality Fender

By David from Chicago on November 10, 2023 Music Background: 30 years playing

Ryan from Sweetwater hooked me up with this amazing Butterscotch stained Fender Telecaster. I normally prefer to play a guitar before I buy it. However in this case Ryan called me up and found the perfect specimen to send my way. It was packed extremely well and arrived in 2 days. The guitar looks and sounds great. High quality with a beautiful finish top to bottom. I'd been coveting this guitar for sometime and Ryan really hooked me up. Stoked!!!

Exactly what I hoped it would be!

By James Allen from Rapid City, SD on October 17, 2023

First off, shout out to Halaj at Sweetwater for being so patient and helpful. This purchase was a big deal to me, and he helped me out. A lot! The guitar makes the picture look lame. And the sound is what I was looking for. These pickups give me that Tele sound I was looking for in bridge and neck. Keeper!

Awesome Guitar!

By Mark from Otto, NC on October 3, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate

I have to admit that I didn't purchase my Telecaster from Sweetwater, but direct from Fender as they had a 10 percent off deal going at the time. That aside, this is an awesome tone machine. The color of the guitar I got is more like honey mustard instead of blonde and with this I named it Colonel Mustard from the Clue game. Neck, middle and bridge positions give you a lot of options and this thing works well with gain and other tones from pedals. Heck, with just a little reverb and clean the sound is more than satisfactory. This is also a great guitar if you have small hands like I do and the 22nd fret makes it easy to bend to an upper octave E note. I highly recommend this guitar and feel it will make you very happy like it does me as it has never disappointed.

Fender Player Tele

By DAVE DEVOS from ROCHESTER NY on March 27, 2023 Music Background: Self taught guitar. Degree in Audio

I purchased this Tele due to my undying love of Fender instruments, I could have bought the more expensive model but after receiving the Player version I don't see how it be improved. Finish is impeccable, excellent play-ability and superior tone.
I have a Pro I Strat and the Tele plays as well and sounds as good.
I also have a 1974 Tele Deluxs that I restored and the Player completes my Fender collection.

A word of praise for Sweetwater. My sales engineer (Sean) was with me all the way. It arrived quickly and I was impressed with how it was packed for shipping. Arrived in perfect condition. They are #1 with me!

Fantastic guitar for the money

By Don Walker from Longmont, CO on February 24, 2023

Always wanted a Butterscotch Blonde Tele and decided to pull the trigger. I didn't like the options available for an American axe, and while I could have afforded the extra $, I thought "Why"? I did some research, and the Player series comes with several upgraded parts already. The pots, switch, string tree and tuners are all American. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the quality, sound and playability of the guitar as is, I'm just super picky. For an extra $ I swapped out the bridge for an American vintage brass 3 saddle, an American pickguard, and a set of American vintage '64 pickups. The guitar now sounds and plays as well as any American out there. Except for the MIM serial number, you could never tell the difference. 100% happy with this purchase! And as always, Drake and Sweetwater took great care of me. Thanks, guys!

Great Guitar for the price

By Jonathan Mendoza from Brownsville, TX on February 3, 2023 Music Background: Hobbyist

Pleasantly surprised by this guitar. Stays in tune and plays well.

Awesome!!

By David from Anaheim, CA on November 22, 2022

I have been on a Tele kick in recent weeks with another model that I love, but I then wanted a more "classic" style model. I got a Squire and loved-it, but knew then that I wanted a full fender model when I could make that happen.
This model fit my budget and had great ratings in comparison to the American-made model, so I got it.
Right away it was great on it's own with little need for setup. However, me wanting that classic Tele look, feel and sound I replaced the bridge with the god old classic bridge with three brass saddles. While I don't recommend this for most folks as its not truly "needed", it put my guitar exactly where I wanted it to be.

I received my butterscotch blonde telecaster a week ago and I love it ! I'm playing it through my 1964 fender tremolux amp and it sounds terrific not to mention it's a beautiful guitar! It has a great feel so much so I don't want to put it down ! Anybody that's looking for a telecaster won't go wrong buying the player series! I also highly recommend Drew and the sweetwater team who kept me informed the whole way and answered all my questions! Thanks Sweetwater for the great service and buying experience!

First Fender & I love it!

By Bennett Ryckman on June 21, 2022

This is my first Fender after years of having mostly les paul's and one squier way back in the day, and I can see why people become die hard Fender fans! This Telecaster is absolutely beautiful! It plays wonderfully, feels great in the hands, and at this price point you can't ask for more! Been having a blast with it

The best deal on a Telecaster.

By WD on June 14, 2022 Music Background: Professional musician

The one I purchased is built solid. The tuners are good enough to last a long while. Decent nut. Actually, really nice pickups at this price point. The weight balance of this one is perfect for me. I got the maple neck, thinking I would change it out, but it's too nice, so it stays on! Medium jumbo frets are my favorite also. It just sounds and plays really nice. All this at that price gives you a great tele if you're getting your first guitar or want to add one to your collection. And last, but not least, you are not going to find better service than Sweetwater anywhere else with online music retailers. They are the absolute best! So, go for it!

Very nice for the price

By Sweetwater Customer on May 26, 2022 Music Background: Began playing as a boy, sixty years ago. Know music & musical instruments pretty well.

Great guitar,great service and support

By Andy from Cape Cod on December 10, 2021 Music Background: Drummer and newer guitar player

I bought this guitar because of the unique tones of a telecaster and because of the stellar reviews it has received. I encountered a problem with the input connection and Sweetwater sent me a replacement, no questions asked. Bryan Campbell is a great salesperson and Carlos a very knowledgeable and helpful guitar tech. Couldn't be happier with the guitar or the people at Sweetwater.

Fantastic Fender Player Series Telecaster

By Don from New England on October 5, 2021 Music Background: Been playing guitar for 4 years

Recently purchased a Butterscotch Fender Player Series Telecaster from Sweetwater. Absolutely love the guitar and the Sweetwater staff was extremely helpful. The setup right out of the box was spot on. Great action, wonderful tone and most importantly a blast to play. This is my second electric guitar purchase after playing for four years. The single coil pickups are a great addition to my Epiphone Les Paul Standard humbuckers. The Player Series Tele has a very comfortable and fun to play neck. The frets are well positioned and properly finished (no sharp edges). Looking forward to growing my skills with this guitar and the versatile sounds it can provide. The Butterscotch Blonde finish is flawless and classic. Very happy with the new Tele and very pleased with the service (sales, delivery, support) provided by Sweetwater. Highly recommend this guitar and Sweetwater. thanks

Great instrument, great setup, great service!

By Mike Sacksteder from Berkeley, California on June 9, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist, rediscovering the joys of playing after many years away.

I'm really happy with my Player series Telecaster. It's exceptionally playable and supremely versatile. It has made it easy to resume my guitar journey (and develop gratifyingly rapidly) after a decades-long hiatus. My go-to sales engineer Stephen Oppenheim made sure the Sweetwater guitar techs had it perfectly set up and ready to play when it arrived, and I couldn't be happier with the service I have received.

Pure tradition

So my first day with my Player Telecaster has been
A bigger surprise than I expected. I got the guitar
As a back up to be honest. This Tele is first of all beautiful. Nothing looks more Vintage Classy Tele than
The Butterscotch Blonde with a Maple neck. The Alnico pickups sound really nice every tone you'd expect out
Of a good Tele. The modern C neck is very nice. I'm
Really happy with the build it played right out of the box no issues just had to tune it up a smidge.
Sweet Tele excited to finally have here in the studio.

I have been on a shopping spree for about a year getting a few guitars from Sweetwater I've always wanted to round out my collection. You can't beat the professionalism and quality of everything Sweetwater does as a company for their customers. A shout out to Kevin Samuel for helping me on these last 3 purchases the Tele being the latest. At Kevin's recommendation on the SG which was my first in the three of purchases I couldn't be happier with the added service of getting the guitar Pleked. The peace of mind that right out of the box it's a player on day one and on all days after is without a doubt a must purchase when buying a guitar. I have always wanted a Tele since I own a Strat and glad I made this purchase. All the guitars in my collation are under $1000 and all are great players, wish I had bought some of my earlier purchases from Sweetwater so they where set up correctly from the beginning, but you live and learn. I'm finding that the correct set up these under $1000 guitars are worth every penny if you can't afford the real thing, I'll cranking up this Tele in a few weeks when I play outdoors with my band and putting it through a band rehearsal. Instead of using the Les Paul for Zepplin's "How many More Times" I'll use what Page played on for that song. So many great guitarist's used a Tele and now I know why, looking forward to continuing to rotate this new acquisition with the Les Paul and The SG. Speaking of those two, both fine...fine purchases and the Les Paul sustains like a Les Paul should and the long neck and Maestro Vibrola, which stays in tune on the SG is awesome. Love all three of these guitars a long overdue review, if your looking to buy any of these three guitars don't hesitate....one stratified customers.

All Around, Couldn't be Happier!

By Brian K from VA on May 4, 2021

To start at the beginning, my 20 year anniversary was coming up and my wife wanted to get me a new guitar. I start looking in the big box stores for a Telecaster and everyone I picked up in multiple stores had bad frets. At that point I gave up on the Tele and thought I would go with a G&L ASAT.

So I go online and buy a G&L ASAT from a big online retailer that is "friends" with that big box store... I'm pumped up, love the sound online that I'm hearing and when I get the guitar and plug it in, NOTHING! It doesn't play at all... So I ship that guitar back to the seller and they never reach back out to see what else they can do etc...

At this point I reach out to Sweetwater and Brook, my Sales Engineer. I told him what had happened and we preordered another G&L. During my wait and growing impatient, I decided to ask Brook about getting a Tele instead. I was hesitant because of what I saw at the big box stores but Brook put my mind at ease with their inspection process. He sat on the phone with me showing me at least 10 different guitars and emailing me a few before I found the one I wanted. I bought the Butterscotch Blonde but wanted to see the grain through it and didn't want it too dark so he showed me a number of them.

As for the guitar, I couldn't be happier. The frets are fantastic and the action is set up almost perfect. Perfect enough for me to not even bring it in for a set-up yet. The neck is smooth and just fantastic with no flaws on the guitar. From Brook to Sweetwater to Fender, I really couldn't be any happier with this purchase.

Great guitar

By JEFFREY MICHAEL TALBOT on April 30, 2021

This guitar plays and sounds amazing. It is one of the best guitars I've ever played if not THE BEST. Probably the best guitar for the price.

I have never been happier with a new guitar!

By Michael McCaffrey from CANTON, OH on April 26, 2021

First... This guitar is a tone monster. How does Fender do it with only two single coil pickups? I have no idea, but after playing HH Epiphones, HSS Yamahas and even an HSS Fender Strat for years, I am completely in awe of the range and quality of sound I am getting out of my new Butterscotch Tele. The satin neck is so sweet and the modern C neck profile fits my slightly-smaller-than-normal hand just right. The all around finish is just outstanding. I've never seen better. Also, my pedals just love the new Tele. They never sounded better!

Second... The free 55-point inspection was very much appreciated. But I also paid the modest fee for a Sweetwater setup and it is flawless. Excellent intonation. Perfectly aligned neck. String height set just right for my style of playing. The few extra bucks was money well spent. My Tele was flawlessly polished and seemed to glow as I unwrapped it for the first time.

Third... My Sales Engineer, Brenton Evans was a joy to work with through the whole process. He is very knowledgeable and made many helpful suggestions as we discussed what I was looking for in a new guitar. Its nice to have a real musician on the other end of the phone when selecting an instrument as personal as a guitar.

Finally... I have been playing for years. I have purchased guitars from general music stores, guitar only stores, pawn shops and other online retailers. But I have never been as happy with a guitar purchase as I am with Sweetwater. This is the only place for me from now on. Thanks a million Sweetwater!

My First Tele After All These Years

By Tom Baker from CA on April 6, 2021 Music Background: Semi Pro Retired

Very happy with my Players Telecaster, love the satin neck which I have on most of my other guitars, it stays in tune for me even on some recent outdoor gigs, I will most likely not be replacing the stock pickups as they sound great and I'm not interested or needing the subtle difference new pup's could make.

I bought the Butterscotch Blonde finish which is cool, a little bit of the alder wood finish shows through which I like. I would highly recommend this series to someone who wants a great tele without spending at least twice as much money on one.

Doesn't disappoint

By Bob Van from Culver, IN on March 29, 2021 Music Background: Gig player for 30 years. Now playing for God.

I'm lucky to live reasonably close to Sweetwater. I drove the hour and a half to the store, determined to go home with a telecaster. I've wanted one for 40 years and price really wasn't an object. After 2 hours of trying seven different tales, I went home with a butterscotch Player. The modified Vintera is very nice and has a "broken in" feel. The Player is definitely a new guitar but will break in nicely. I always considered myself a Strat guy, but I may reconsider. There's plenty of versatility in this bare bones guitar!

Thanks to everyone at Sweetwater for ALWAYS making it an enjoyable trip to the store.

If you don’t have a tele yet....

By Steven from Oregon on February 22, 2021

After years of playing LPs and Strats, I bought a Tele, partially out of curiosity and partially out of wanting to extend my range of sound. Having mostly been a rhythm player, I have been expanding my ability to play lead in blues, country and rock songs. The tele definitely extends range? The tele singles pups uniquely sound very different than LPs or Strats by virtue of their volume, clarity and voice. The tele arrived set up, ready to play, flawlessly finished and after allowing it to sit for 24 hours, played like a dream. All the electrical and mechanical components are sturdy and wellI made and absolutely, I love the 22 fret neck. 22 is the only way to go. My only complaint comes when I play above the 15th fret bending strings and the b and e fret out. But this is typical of a 9.5 radius neck when you set the fretting as low as I do. I'll make adjustments. So, if you don't have a tele yet it's a great purchase for your range of sound.

Great Tele

Just got mine yesterday

By james van dyke from antioch, CA on October 23, 2020

After a long battle with Crohn's disease I thought I needed some new gear so I went to Sweetwater like I always have in the past to check out what's new. And I came across this player Strat. I had a 69 years ago and wished I never sold it so I got one of the players. Butterscotch blond and the from the time I took it out of the box I fell in love. Plays and feels like my old 69 and then some. I liked it so much I ordered a Fender Blues jr to par up with it. (since Isold my old Fender Blues 4X10 with 69) The both took me way back to the good old days playing the blue's on stage. I'm 70 years old now and haven't been on stage in a while but this new gear has me thinking what I'll say next time I'm asked. Good stuff. JVD

MIM Telecaster

By MPB on September 24, 2020

This is my first non USA Fender and was worried about quality and playability. I could not be more pleased with this guitar and consider it so close in quality to a standard American Fender that I would question paying twice as much for the USA built instrument with only fractional improvement in detail appointments.

Awesome Guitar

Dave at Sweetwater really hooked me up. This guitar is absolutely GORGEOUS and plays like a dream. Goes great with a Boss Katana MKII and a fender hard case :) Hope to do business again soon!

Great guitar! Great price!

By Charles K Chaney from AL on August 4, 2020 Music Background: Guitar, Bass Guitar, keyboards, drums. I’ve been playing music since 12 years old

I bought this Tele not knowing what I would get... This isn't the first MIM product I purchased. I have a couple of bass guitars too.
Took it to my luthier when I go it to have the frets shaped and trimmed to fit the neck perfectly. I was going to replace the pickup with the V-Max but after I played it to different styles of music, no need. You can play anything from Led Zeppelin to Conway Twitty without missing a beat. Very versatile.
Buy one, you won't regret it.

As Etta James would say..(or sing).."At Last"!!! I am a Tele owner!Got it for Christmas 2019. Couldn't be more pleased. Of course it's Butterscotch Blonde with a Maple neck!! (And of course it's gorgeous!!) Craftsmanship, fit and finish is spot on. I've read a lot of "stuff" about this Tele and honestly it's all the Tele I need (and more). The Fender Player Series is an outstanding value. It's amazing how effortless it is to play. This thing sounds just like I want it to through my Fender Princeton Chorus amp and out of my PA. Just the right amount of Spank, Sparkle and Sizzle and only two knobs and one 3-way switch to dial it all in! (I just love simple). Yeah, I've read all the stuff about upgrading the tuners. I've read all about upgrading the nut and yada, yada, yada..but for now I'm leaving my "Tele Like It Is"!!!

Fender Player Series Telecaster

By Randy Overcash from Mooresville, North Carolina on December 29, 2019 Music Background: Involved in Music for over 40 years.

I recently purchased the Fender Player Series Telecaster. It has turned out to be a very nice guitar. It plays really well and the sound is very satisfactory for the money. I have always choose Gibson as my preferred brand choice having played Gibson most of my life. However, in the late 80s I played with a group that finished me an instrument to use on stage and that was a Fender Telecaster. Ever since that time I have wanted to get another Fender Telecaster to add to my collection. I ordered this instrument from Sweetwater and found it to be just what I wanted. I am loving playing this guitar. Thank you Jonathan for your help.

Player Series Telecaster

By Brett Lapierre from Washington State on September 15, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist/Home recording

I have never owned a Telecaster before. I have owned one Strat and I liked it, except for the location of the top volume knob which was too close to the bridge, and was uncomfortable (for me). This guitar is very comfortable to play and I love the Butterscotch Blonde finish. The neck is comfortable and I love the maple fretboard. Very classy, vintage look to this guitar.

I only had to lower the action a little bit to get it right where I like it, and there is no buzzing. I have not changed the strings on it yet, so that may make a difference but overall I am totally satisfied with this purchase. Thanks to Rob Kramer for answering all my questions, and helping me find a guitar I can truly be proud to add to my collection. Sweetwater is the only place to buy a guitar in my opinion.

Player Series Telecaster

By Brett from Washington State on August 12, 2019 Music Background: Passionate amateur/Hobby

My Sweetwater sales engineer Rob Kramer has helped me with lots of gear this summer, (PreSonus Audiobox i2, Studio One, EZDrummer 2, a couple small guitar amps) and the last purchase I made was a Butterscotch Blonde Player Series Telecaster. This is my first Telecaster and I have to say I am very pleased with everything about it. I love the finish. It looks old school with the barely visible woodgrain beneath the beautiful butterscotch finish, the maple fretboard, and the B/W/B pickguard.

As far as sound it is awesome, and has opened up some new tonal territory to me. I used it for rhythm, and mild overdriven parts on a recent recording and it sounds fantastic. Great for mild overdrive, great for clean, great for twang if that"s what you want, very versatile. Also worth mentioning is the guitar was delivered with no scrapes, scratches, dings, dents, or blemishes. It just needed the strings stretched, and the action lowered and it is ready to go. If you are considering purchasing one of these, don"t hesitate. Awesome deal. Thanks again Rob for answering all my questions, and helping me get the gear I need!!

classc, cool guitar

By casey from nashua on June 20, 2019 Music Background: advanced

I got one of the butterscotch ones. Love it as I have loved(and regretted selling) previous telecasters. Plays wells and teles just have the best bridge pickups that sound great clean which I don't find with strats and humbucker style guitars. I played with it live and that is where the Telecaster shine. They are not to bassy or muddy nor ice picky high like some single coils. Its a solid, middle of the spectrum sound that makes playing live that much easier. You get the best of both worlds-ballsier sound than a strat for hard rock but more bite and twang than a les paul or other humbucker axes. Looks gorgeous also, nothing says class like a butterscotch tele. Maybe I will keep it this time and learn from my mistakes...

My favorite electric

By Scott from Mississipi on June 19, 2019

This guitar has easily become my new number one. The individual saddles are probably my favorite feature. From ease of dialing in intonation, to the feel on the hand when playing, I absolutely love it. The pickups have so much spank, bite, and warmth - when needed that it's hard to put down. Sweetwater's selection process was fantastic in allowing me to get the one I wanted, not what I ended up with.

Great Value

By JT from Ohio on April 23, 2019

For my money, these Player Series instruments by Fender are one of the best values out there. Sure, the piece of wood isn't perfect and I needed to tweak the setup some, but it delivers on the Tele sound, feel and playability as well as I could want. The features and build quality are really good at such a price point. I got it in part with some modding in mind (a great platform for that) but I'm enjoying it just as it came for now and could easily see having one around kept stock. You also can't go wrong with the way Sweetwater stands behind what they sell and how they make the buying experience easy.

A Fantastic Tele for the money

Beautiful Butterscotch. And at only 7.6lbs easy to hold. Mason Moss is the Man!He paired it with a Fender Champion 40 and you couldn't ask for better sound. I have always been a tibevamp guy but this combo is impossible to beat. For protection Mason recommended the SKB soft-sided and I like it better than any hard case I've ever had. Of you have any questions about gear Mason Moss is the man to talk to. He really knows his gear and you'll never find a salesman who is more concerned about Your wants and needs
He's the Best pro at Sweetwater and nobody there knows their gear better or is more helpful than Mason. Saved me a room of money and got me a killer rug. I'm not a kid at 62 but I love to play and working with Masonakrs it so easy to get the gear you want at a price you can afford. Can't say enough good things about Sweetwater or Mason.. This is the Only place you need to look for gear.
P. S. Thanks for the candy Mason!!!

First of all, thanks to Jonathan Casarow for his expert help and guidance through my project. I say project because I used this Player Telecaster as a base for some neat mods. I installed a B5 Bigsby, Fender Noiseless Pickups, replaced the 250 ohm pots with 500 ohm pots (This is because the Noiseless Pickups are really stacked humbuckers and they function WAY better with the 500 ohm.) I also installed a custom armrest that is in the same black/white/black pattern as the pickguard. When completed this guitar both looks and plays incredibly well. Sweetwater either has or can get the parts for this type of build. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had people to help guide you along the way. The Player Telecaster 22 fret neck is especially grand. I can't tell any difference between the high-priced Elite Tele and the Player Tele. It's that good. My whole project came in under $900. The original pickups were also very fine. I'm just a real stickler about ANY hum. I'm doing some recording and the Noiseless Pickups really work great. You will not regret buying this guitar. I give it my highest recommendation.

Best Guitar Yet!

I have had this guitar for 2 months and I am more than happy. Playability and tone is amazing. I have been playing for 52 years and this guitar has renewed my passion to play Of course I have a Strat, Les Paul, Gretsch and many others but this is certainly my go to now. Sweetwater is amazing and Corie is the man. Thanks for helping me find the tone I have been searching for for many years. This plus the new blues jr is fantastic!

Truly grateful to Fender for getting this one right. It's a wonderful, well-made guitar at a reasonable price, which is a rarity in the left-handed world. The neck is comfortable and true, and the stock pickups deliver on the classic Tele sound*. Highly recommended; I actually prefer this to my 60th Anniversary American Standard.
*I use a VOX AC15C1 and a modified Fender Champion 600; sounds great through both.

Never played a Tele, saw one online, got it in the box.

Out the box needed a touch of setting up, had to bend the neck inward a bit to reduce fret buzz. Nothing major.

Plugged in it has the most crystal clear notes on clean channels that I have ever heard, each note rings out with a purity I haven't heard before. Mid switch position is pure country twang.

On overdrive channels this guitar, surprisingly, shreds. It's got a more trebly sound profile than my Mustang 90. I play pretty heavy alternative and punk and wasn't thinking this guitar could serve me there, but even with it's single pickups it's a proper rock guitar, with that awesome metallic edge to the distortion that I only get from my Mustang and Jag.

Beautiful guitar.

Finally!

I am a Strat girl, always have been. Any Fender is lovely, but I had my preference. I was always looking sideways at telecasters - but they had issues: Huge fat wide necks, only 21 frets, razor sharp bridge pickups, and they generally weighed a metric butt-ton. So I always kept walking away. Not now. The new player series dissolved all these issues. The one I bought from Sweetwater is barely over 7 lbs., the neck is fast as hell and has a 9.5 radius, it plays like a bomb, there are 22 frets, but the real joy is the new pick-up configuration - there is a glorious warmth and clarity there and it sounds great without pedals (using just a Priceton Reverb Amp). This guitar is fun and it finally resolved that " Gee, I kinda' wish I could play a Tele thing" that has been floating around in my head. It is really loud - but not the loud that peels the skin off your face. The ultimate compliment - my husband walked in and said - "I hate to tell you, but of all your more expensive guitars...that one is the winner by far." This is a deal - buy one before you can't get one. Fender changes its line-up faster than some people change their underwear...just sayin'.

Awesome player and sound

By Larry B from Pennsylvania on January 27, 2022 Music Background: Regular player. Local bands.

I have been more of a Lea Paul and Stat player. I got this Tele because I was looking for a Richard's /Rolling Stone's Brown Sugar sound.

I got rhat sound and a lot more.

Amazed at the playability. It is a dream to play.

Well built too.

I would have given it 5 stars, but ehen it arrived it had some definite marks on pick guard from prior hard play. However it does not affect its performance.

Fender Player Telecaster

By Sweetwater Customer from Rochester, NY on November 6, 2021

Great guitar for the money. True to the original Telecaster, it had noisy pickups. What dive can you play in that doesn't have neon signs near the band area? I replaced the original pickups with a noiseless set. All is quiet in the Telecaster Department.

The original classic in the original colors.

Wonderful experience purchasing this from Sweetwater. Perfect setup right out of the box- Thanks, Guitar Gallery! Excellent service and follow-up from my rep, Jozy.

Solid construction producing all the right tones- articulate, rich, resonant, punchy, and versatile. The neck is extremely comfortable and handles like a dream. It's like dancing a tango with the perfect partner. It just feels right. Soon my skills will be worthy of its amazing pedigree.

Not sure why the string tree is all the way against the headstock, but the sound and tuning don't suffer.

Fender Player Telecaster

This far exceeded my expectation. It is well built and the action is very good. The set up was good. I look forward to many years of playing...

Very happy with this one...

I've played Stratocasters and Les Paul's since I was 12, starting out with some real cheap knock-offs and progressing all the way up to the real thing. I love classics. But I didn't get the Telecaster bug until a few years ago - but then, I'd start looking at Teles but I was always veering so far away from the standard configuration that the only thing Tele left was the shape. But eventually, I figured out that this needn't be a Swiss-army knife sort of guitar. I wanted a classic Telecaster - even the color would be a departure from my usual arsenal of black, white and dark red guitars. But I also wanted to test the waters first.

So I ordered this Butterscotch Blonde Player series Tele. From my experience with a Player Stratocaster, I knew they were fine instruments. I also knew Sweetwater would make sure that the instrument was playable out of the box.

Well, I wasn't disappointed. Of all the guitars I've bought in the last 35 years, in store or online, this ranks in the top 5 for playability. I hardly put it down all week. And it sounds surprisingly good. I've taken it to a recording session last night and ended up using it on every track. Not only does it do the twang thing as you'd expect from a Tele, but it exceeded my expectation for hard rock. I dare say it handled the task better than my beloved US Strat.

Did I mention she's absolutely gorgeous? I was afraid that the finish would be a bit opaque, but it's just right, letting you see the wood beneath the paint. I'm in love with this thing.

Nice guitar

By Billy from Pennsylvania on August 10, 2020 Music Background: Muscian, Singer, Song writer,

I have been playing for 40 years and it only takes me about 30 seconds to tell if a guitar has what it takes to be a player. This MIM Tele is a player but I had to do a complete set up to the guitar to get it to be a player. The guitar was strung wrong it kept going out of tune I fixed that. The intonation was off I fixed that and lowered the action a touch, and the pickup heights were off, I fixed that. Then finally after the strings settled in, it was playable. Cosmetically I couldn't find a flaw on the guitar.
Thanks Joe Perrone and Ryan for getting this shipped to me with no shipping issues. Its a nice guitar and I'm glad I settled for the MIM instead of the USA model at double the price. Thanks again Bill.

Pretty good

By Michael from Austin. Tx on November 10, 2023

My last experience with Fender was not great. I bought from them directly and had to send it back for various reasons. This Player I bought to mod and that was it. I just wanted a good neck, frets and a light body and everything else was coming off. The neck and frets are great, and the weight was 7lbs 6ozs. It met those requirements. I was surprised at the actual quality of the guitar. If you are interested in modding then get this and if just want a decent Telecaster, then get this. Either way you can't go wrong.

Great quality and value.

By Sweetwater Customer on June 30, 2023

I have an American professional ii telecaster that I bought before purchasing this player series. I might like the sound of the player series better. It at least sounds as good as the American made. The fit and finish of the guitar is excellent. I had always wanted a butterscotch blonde tele and I do not regret not saving up for the American made model. When these guitars were known as the standard tele, the quality and sound don't compare to the player series. This is more comparable to the old American standard. The only small issues I've seen is that the output jack doesn't really have a substantial click when you plug in, though it works with no issues. I had to big bends nut sauce in the nut slots because was just a slight bit of binding when tuning. All that being said, I absolutely would recommend this guitar.

Nice guitar

By Dustin from WA state on February 24, 2022 Music Background: I play guitar sometimes all the time.

I did a couple things to it to make it sound better. I have some 51 CS nocasters I'm going to throw in it. I swapped the bridge with a standard vintage fender one - no intonation problems, lines up perfectly costs about $. Easy upgrade that sounds and looks way better. It's a nice looking guitar and the pickups are decent. The bridge swap made the stock pickups sound better but I'm still going to swap them out. The guitar looks very nice and the neck feels great. Electronics aren't bad. Very narrow neck. Not super thin but narrow, which I like. I also like the medium jumbo frets a lot. I think they're asking too much for them but hey that's the world we live in now.

Tele

I have played Fenders and other makes for over 59 years. I love my Tele that I have updated to the Ghost System. It just makes my Tele much more versatile in the club and concert style music that I play. I have started to see Telecasters in the Texas "Conjunto" music that I hear as well. I am a guitar collector, musician, project studio musician and I love guitars of all kinds, and music of different countries. The fender guitars are very sought after instruments in other countries.

Happy with my purchase

By Jason Rodrigues from HENDERSON, NV on June 7, 2022

First off I'd like to thank Alex McKinney for the great customer service. This guitar sounds great. I was surprised how much punch the bridge pickup had when I pushed it through a high gain setting. The neck pick up is real nice for blues. And together these pickups are great on a clean setting. Now for a couple of things I felt weren't so great...the frets are pretty sharp up and down the neck. I would expect more attention to detail from a Fender product. Also, I find that the guitar needs to be tuned quite often. Could be due to the new strings. I'll give it time and see how that plays out. Overall I am happy with this guitar. Sounds great and I love the classic color scheme.

Didn't get a good one..

By Scott from ID on April 3, 2022

I've been buying Fender MIM Teles and Strats for 40 years, and this one is the worst I've ever had. Sweetwater was nice enough to discount the purchase price, and I've been able to fix most of the flaws, but this one should have never left the factory. I don't think I've ever experienced a neck with so many uneven frets in my life, it was literally unplayable out of the box. There are paint chips and a missing screw for the G string saddle, the string tree is mounted off-center, and the bridge plate was completely ungrounded. I've had Squiers with a better factory setup and better necks than this one, even Affinity Squiers. Luckily the neck is straight and the truss rod turns freely, and the mounting holes were set correctly. I think this will be the last Fender product I ever buy.
