Fender Player Telecaster HH - Tidepool with Maple Fingerboard Reviews
Some folks think Teles are only good for country-style twanging, but the Fender Player Series Telecaster HH says otherwise. This dual humbucker-equipped axe delivers muscular, throaty sounds by the truckload. That being said, it can also achieve mellower tones if you ask nicely. A Modern C-shaped neck and 22-fret, 9.5"-radius fingerboard give you a decidedly contemporary feel with fast action and comfortable playability. You also get a synthetic bone nut, 6-saddle string-through bridge, and Fender standard sealed tuners. If you've got aggressive tendencies, you'll love the Player Series Telecaster HH — it's a Tele with a mean streak.

A lot more than I thought
I've wanted an HH Tele for a while now so I sprung for this one. Now I can't put it down, my LP's and Strats are mad at me.
Playing it through a 5150 Iconic, Fender Deluxe Reverb and Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50 and it sounds great through all of them.
I was surprised by the bite and power you can get from the HH setup and, as always, a Fender played through a Fender is always going to sparkle and this one does. No complaints at all. Thanks to my sales rep, Timothy Van Slyke for the ongoing, excellent customer service. Sweetwater Gear Exchange is an awesome idea that is probably making music stores across the country very nervous. Cheers!
Fine Guitar.
I don't know why I waited so long to buy this. It complements my Player Series strat nicely. Very wide range in tone possibilities with double humbuckers and the single/double switch. The maple neck is fast and comfortable. The setup procedure was quick and without issues. Action is low, no buzz, excellent intonation and amazing sound. Plays like a dream. As with everything I purchase from Sweetwater, great customer service and all equipment is delivered in excellent condition.
All you need is love
Love this guitar! It sounds beautiful! It's my first telecaster and it's amazing!
My new favorite guitar
I've owned a few telecasters in the past from thin lines to standard as well as strat and this is now my new favorite guitar! The tone is legendary.
Awesome guitar!
I was looking for a telecaster guitar with humbucker pickups, but the nut width and radius had to suit me. I am 74 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 18. I have some arthritis in my left little finger, so a narrow neck width makes it hard for me to play. I researched this guitar thoroughly, liked the beautiful blue color and maple neck combination, so I bought it. I also bought a beautiful navy blue Fender case. I was blown away at the sound of this guitar, the intonation was perfect, and there were no visible flaws when I examined it. This guitar is very easy to play, lead or rhythm, and is well balanced (not neck heavy or light), and enhances my stage presence with its beauty. All the strings ring out with no dead zones throughout the neck. If you want an excellent guitar and like a telecaster, don't pass this one up. The price is right and the value even better.
Blown away!
Honestly, I bought this as a project guitar intending to make a bunch of upgrades. As it turns out, the only upgrades I've done are locking tuners and strap locks. The pickups in this guitar sound incredible, and the coil split is a welcome feature. In a short few weeks, this guitar has quickly become my primary guitar. I absolutely love it!
Beautiful!!
Look no further, This is the telecaster you want. I got this hot baby the past few months and I absolutely love it. Sweetwater always has a oustsnding display for Fender guitars which I happen to be a Fender fan myself and excellent customer service. Hope to be doing business with y'all again soon.
Very Impressed
I just picked this up and I must say I am impressed. I didn't expect it to sound as good as it does when splitting the coils. This thing is very versatile. If I only had one guitar this would fit the bill. But let's be realistic, guitars are like Lays Potatoes Chips. I bet you can't just have one.
Sweet Thing!
Just got this baby the other day, thanks to my overtime money. It's really paid off! Sounds Outstanding!!
Fender Player's Series Telecaster HH, A Guitar Worth Keeping!
I have always wanted a Fender Tele. I have had 3 or 4 squier Teles and while they are a great value, especially the Vibe series, I have to upgrade them. Whether its the pickups, Locking Tuners or a new nut, I was still never satisfied with the my upgrades on a less expensive guitar. So I looked to a Fender Tele that I would not have to upgrade (locking tuners only). My Sweetwater engineer, Nick, showed me the advantages of the Player's Series Tele HH. He didn't compare the Player's Series Tele to Squier Teles, he simply showed my the features and benefits of the Player's Series Tele HH. Silky smooth neck, comfortable fretboard, 2 Humbuckers (that play modern rock as well as that famous jangly, chimey Fender tone), coil splitting and belly cut. I was going to wait to buy it, but I pulled the trigger right away. It arrived in 2 days and I have had a great time with playing this Tele. It is nice for a guitar to come out of the box and play well. I can't wait to play everyday!
Guitar is great
Ive had this hh tele for about 6 months now and it's smooth to play. Satin neck has a nice feel, humbuckers have great heavy and rich tones. Coil tap tones are very good, in my mind, better tapped tones than prs se, epiphone, etc. Stays in tune surprisingly well with big bends. Idk if I'll ever sell this one
Fantastic Guitar!
The pickups sound amazing, and the satin finish really helps me glide around the neck. I'm a gigging musician and this really satisfied my need for a comfortable, simple guitar with a wide range of tonal options. The split coil function is great to get some classic tele tones, but overall I use the humbuckers far more as that fits my sound better. Zack took great care of me during the purchase.
love this guitar
The satin neck is perfect, the pickups are pretty bright, so amp might need to be adjusted to avoid it being to brittle. Coil split sounds great, tuning, intonation, action, everything feels great. might get the player strat as well since this one plays so well. played side by side with an SE PRS, i prefer this for feel and tone. other than it not sounding EXACTLY like a single coil when split (which is pretty much every guitar with split), the thing is perfect. i get lost playing it, look up and youve been noodling for an hour!
Loud and proud
This guitar is absolutley stunning, more beautiful than the pictures indicate. It's more than just a looker though, it's so easy to play and sounds amazing, the pickups are really high output even in coil tap and they can take a ton of gain with no problems. This may be my new favorite guitar.
Awesome
I purchased mine used through the in store Gear Exchange and love this guitar. It plays great and sounds amazing. Even with the humbuckers which can go from heavy sounds to clear and smooth highs, it still sounds like a classic Tele and you can get that classic twang with help from the split coils. Can't recommend it enough!
Great guitar/great service
I wanted something different and this bad boy delivered. The neck is smooth and easy to play. The pickups are great. I like the coil split option. Lots of good tones come outta this guitar. The guitar sent to me had a faulty input jack. No fault of Sweetwater. My sales engineer Ed took care of the issue immediately. I had the replacement part the next day. They offered to fix it for me but I didn"t want to ship the guitar back and forth. I would definitely recommend this guitar and Sweetwater. Can"t beat quality instruments and great customer service.
Fender Player Sries Telecaster HH
This is my first Telecaster and I purchased it for the Humbucking Pickups. I couldn't be happier with the sustain and the clear tone. Very well made for the price! I would highly recommend this guitar to both experienced and beginning enthusiasts.
Dual Humbucker Happy Camper
Well, after going thought 8 or 9 Guitars in the last 2 years, trying to find the one I wanted, I have finally landed on the one I will be using from now on. I am a bit older now, so I needed a Guitar that would give me Many Options as far a Sound, and Genre Play-ability. I Play Praise and Worship Music, I needed Easy Listening, Tropical, Polka, a bit of Rock and Contemporary and some Jazz as well.
I wanted a Tele because of the Maple Fret Board and I needed the Fat sound as well, so I opted for a Humbucker in the Neck Position. Well this little Gem came with a Humbuker in the Neck and the Bridge position too. The Stock Humbucker's as sure Hot when you need it, and Super Clean when you need that too. All around, this is a Great Guitar to have in your Arsenal. That fact that it is MIM should only say one thing, it's about $... less the the Counterpart, Love it. If Fender USA made this Quality for this Price, MIM would not exist, only my opinion.
I moded the Switches on mine, just because I like to do Swells so I want my Volume to be in the Blade Position, and the Blade is better for me in the back. Supper Guitar, I am a super Happy Camper.
Perfection
First of all I must thank my wonderful wife of 6 years for suggesting I purchase this guitar for our anniversary. On Saturday, we visited Sweetwater and I played a number of guitars. It was two particular guitars that stuck out for me, the Player series telecaster and the jaguar. Both felt and played superbly. At my wife's advice I slept on it. On Sunday I had made up my mind and decided on the HH design because of the versatility of the humbuckers along with the coil tap feature of the single-coil. Let me just say that my in store sales rep was attentive and knowledgeable. I asked for the guitar I wanted by the serial number, wanting the heaviest guitar available. It was promptly delivered and my rep had already pulled up cases while we were waiting. On top of that he offered a discount without me even asking for it. Let me just say I was beyond impressed! You have made a customer for life, and the guitar is what quality and dreams are all about. Thank you Joe James my sales rep for patiently waiting on me over the years to purchase. I am so pleased and can't say enough about my purchase and phenomenal guitar!
I love this instrument
This guitar is fantastic. I own a few Telecasters and each one is different, but this guitar has become my favorite since I first picked it up. The sound from these pickups are fantastic! Playing some AC/DC or hard rock? stick with the humbuckers. What to get that Rolling Stones or a country vibe going? Split the coils with the tone switch and rock on! The fit and finish is the best I've seen in a MIM Fender. The neck feels great in the hand and the satin finish on the back is so great compared to the hi-gloss stuff that seems to stick to my hand when I play. Also, the tidepool color is something to see in hand, Sweetwater normally captures the colors perfect, but when I received mine and it was just a little darker than the image shown, but NOT a bad thing, it looks great.
This is a solid instrument and one I'll be enjoying for a long while. Big thanks to Nick x1743 for handling another flawless transaction for me.
Yes, it's for real!!
I've had two Telecasters but I always wanted one with two humbuckers and I finally got it. Mine was a scratch and dent one with very very minor wear on it and I got it for a good price!! I own a decent collection that runs from very high-end guitars to my new Telecaster and I have to say that this is my new go to guitar! In the humbucker position it gives my Les Paul a serious run for the money and in the Telecaster single coil position it actually sounds like a real Telecaster not some weak thin sounding attempt. The fit and finish of this guitar are amazing for the price point and the tone is just glorious! The neck profile is super comfortable, the fret work is excellent and I just love the guitar. I have no complaints and if you're on the fence wanting a Telecaster with humbuckers and the ability to go single coil you have to take the dive and get this guitar. I promise you, you will not regret it and you won't want to put it down!
The Best
I got this guitar a couple weeks ago. I don't usually buy anything on line. I saw it in the deal section. It said it had a scratch on it. They showed a picture of the blemish. it was in a spot you wouldn't see unless you were specifically looking. Plus, it was a demo. The more I read about the 55 point check the better it looked, so I got it. They shipped it in 2 days. It came double boxed, well packed. I left it set 24 hours and plugged it in.
GET THIS GUITAR!!! is it sweet! it was ready to play right out of the box. Nice low action, beautiful finish. Where they said the blemish was, I finally found. it was VERY minimal. The split coil pickups are fabulous. 2 nice parts-no batteries and none of that hum that Fenders are known for. I literally fell in love with this guitar. My main stage guitar is a beautiful Epi Les Paul. Everybody loves it that's ever played it. This Fender maybe it's replacement. Great guitat and great place to do business. Thank you, Sweetwater!
Not bad for the Money
Great player.....les paul sounding considering its two humbuckers...nice fit and finish...
Fantastic Telecaster
I think Fender knocked a home run with this version of the Telecaster. I've had this Tele HH model guitar for about a week, and after changing the strings and doing a set-up to suit my taste, I am very happy. The fit and finish are pretty good, and the pick-ups sound great. That classic Telecaster twang is all there! Yet, at the push of the tone knob I am in humbucker mode with that thick fat tone. On most classic Telecasters the single coil bridge pickup can be harsh and bright, however in my opinion this bridge pickup sounds fantastic in single coil mode. The 9.5 inch fretboard radius and belly contour are well deserved improvements over the classic telecaster. The standard tuners are pretty good but I may look at upgrading to locking tuners in the near future. The volume and tone pots are smooth and have great response. This guitar is a big Win-Win! Way to go Fender!
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
This is a nice sounding guitar .In fact I'd say it would be a good choice if you were not sure of the type of music you had to play on a gig. Lots of good sounds come out of this axe....however do not expect true Telecaster sounds. You can get close.......but not a TRUE tele sound. Also forget Les Paul sounds. Again, distorted close....but not dead on. Clean, not even close IMHO.
It plays well out of the box, but much better after my tech set it up. I dont care fore Fender strings and much prefer E B Slinkys. This change alone made the guitar wake up.
So if you but one of these, buy it on what it is. A tele shaped Fender with humbuckers. Which there is nothing wrong with. I think it sounds fine, again for what it is.. A good all around axe that works well and doesnt overdrive your pedals ( unless you want it to). Very decent cleans through any amp I have. Nice fretwork, decent hardware. Only upgrade was a set of locking tuners I had lying around. Just dont expect the Tele twang as its not there. However you can get a nice chunky overdrive from most tube amps, like my old Fender deluxe. Great blues and classic rock sounds.
My eyes and ears at Sweetwater, Josh, took care of me on this axe.
Great Guitar, not the finger board.
I received this guitar a couple of days ago. First of all the color is amazing! AND it sounds phenomenal! BUT, the finger board on the maple neck is gloss. Or it is finished with gloss sealer. I personally don't like the gloss finish. The back of the neck is satin, so I figured the ENTIRE neck was satin. I returned it to get one with the Pao Ferro finger board, which is not finished. If you don't mind the gloss finger board, then this is a great guitar!
Just Love it!
I got this one off the Deals page a couple months ago. They showed where there were a couple nicks, but nothing major. I couldn't see them when I looked for them upon arrival. It was ready to play out of the box. I let it set 24 hours after unboxing and when I plugged it in it was sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!! It felt great. I didin't get a set up per se, but the way it came out of the box was how I like it. The neck is great, no sharp edges or anything. Almost like it had been plecked. I never cared for Fender due to that incessant hum when you added any gain. The split coils eliminated that. This axe will get clear as glass, have that "country" twang, or get nasty as can be with no problem. It's competing with my Les Paul as my main axe. Love it. And Sweetwater has proven to be trustworthy.
Febder Player Tele HH
Got a Fender Player Telecaster with 2 humbuckers and maple fretboard from Sweetwater. I love the neck shape and the neck and frets feel smooth and slinky and the action is great right out of the box. The guitar is light and slightly neck heavy. Lots of tones available with the push pull tone control that switches between 6 different humbucker and single coil modes for the pickups. I've played this guitar for 3 days now through 4 different tube amps, and while all 6 pickup position sounds are good, I really haven't been able to find sounds that I would call inspiring. May have to switch the pickups.
Very good, needs work
Overall the fit and finish are good quality. Recognizing that buying a lower-priced, mexican-made Fender is going to come with issues not found on their higher-priced guitars, you should be prepared to do some finish work. The first would be fret ends. They extend beyond the fretboard and need to be dressed, either by you or a professional. Second is the string tree, which needs to be at least lubricated, or better yet replaced. Friction needed to be greatly reduced on the B and E strings so that they would stay in tune. Third, nut glue is on the fretboard and needs to be removed. Bottom line, I was willing to do some work out of the box in exchange for a $500 difference between the Player and Performer series. If that sounds like you, this Player series is great. If not, pay the additional money and get a better experience out of the box.
Poor quality
I've owned this guitar and have played it daily for about 1.5 years now. I hate to say it, but the longer I own it, the less I like it. It's been frustrating to say the least. Constant neck (truss rod) adjustments, intonation impossible to dial in, and several imperfections that make this guitar feel cheap. The neck and body have shrunk drastically due to changes in humidity, far more than any guitar I've ever owned. The body shrunk so much, the pickguard now bows in the middle and sits higher than the pickup housings. I've filed the sharp fret ends so many times, as the neck continues to shrink. The guitar just keeps getting worse as time goes on. It's unfortunate, because this could be a really cool guitar. I think it sounds good, especially in full bridge humbucker mode through a dirty Marshall. It also looks great. The quality issues, however, completely ruin it. It makes me not even want to play, when usually all I ever want to do is play my guitars! There are many very positive reviews of this guitar, but I wonder how many of those reviewers are just in that "honeymoon" phase still, or worse, are not being truthful (I'm referring to YouTube reviewers). My Squier Classic Vibe Strat feels and plays like a higher quality guitar compared to my Fender Player Tele HH.
