Believe the Hype

By Kenneth Butler from Anaheim, CA on April 19, 2024 Music Background: Ambient, indie rock, some classic post punk

Sweetwater finally got a few more in and I didn't want to lose out. Went for the plek and that slowed the train down a bit. This guitar plays unreal. I have small hands and this neck, despite the names is so comfortable. Don't second guess, this guitar is a beast. Shout out to my rep Josh, who had me lined up.
It's an amazing guitar and I've played MiM, Ultra, Players, Performers and none of them come close to the JV. I own custom, Thinline Teles and this smokes them all

I''ve been playing for many years and this JV is the best

Just WOW !!!

The hype is real. Flawless guitar - and I'm very picky

By Sweetwater Customer on January 28, 2024

In my opinion this is the best current Fender product available to western markets. Mine survived a 10 day shipping delay in sub-zero temperatures, and arrived to me with a good factory setup, and almost perfectly in tune.

Most importantly there isn't a single quality-control flaw with this guitar - FINALLY! The fretwork is super impressive, the nut was cut perfectly, the rosewood has been treated well, the neck pocket is nice and tight. There is nothing finicky about this guitar. Unfortunately this hasn't been my experience with Fender MIA or MIM lately.

On a subjective level, the specs work great for me. 6150 frets are my preference, and while the neck isn't a baseball bat by any means, the V-shape gives your hand plenty of leverage (my hands require this). The pickups are balanced and harmonic, and don't feel particularly overwound. They can get raw and rootsy, but then can jangle just as easily.

The hype is real - Fender Japan is as diligent as ever. I would easily rate this above any American Fender offering right now. Buy with confidence.

The only thing I'd change about it is, it would have been nice if it came with a hard case.

The Telecaster to end all Telecasters

By Nicolas Lovell from Grantville, GA on May 30, 2023

Wow, where do I begin. Well firstly, a huge shout out to my sales rep Derek Spaulding. He was super helpful and talked me through the whole process and really helped to sell me on this model. I was going between 3 T style guitars and he recommended I give this one a try and I'm so glad I did!

Now on to the guitar-
I've played a lot of telecasters through the years, from Mexican standard to American and ever iteration in between. Some good and some just forgettable. The JV Modified 60s tele is something special. First of all it is BEAUTIFUL. That firemist gold finish is truly eye catching. That paired with the vintage tint neck and a dark rosewood board it is guitar eye candy heaven. And the Japanese craftsmanship really is evident, I've combed over every inch of this guitar and it is as close to flawless as possible.

Second the playability of this guitar is second to none. Right out of the box this guitar plays like a dream. The soft V neck profile is one of the comfiest necks I've played and the rolled fretboard makes this guitar feel like an old friend, like it's been played and loved for years. There's a lot of fuss online about basswood bodied guitars being inferior. This is absolutely not the case here. The basswood body on the JV Tele is super resonant and lively. I don't find myself wishing it was a different tonewood whatsoever.

Now on to the electronics. The guitar has fender vintage voiced proprietary pickups and they definitely get the job done. The bridge pickup is great, it has that classic tele twang without being ice picky. The neck pickup is the only thing I find a little lacking. It's a little thin at times, I do find myself wanting a little more punch out of the neck pickup. But it certainly doesn't sound bad, this is just personal preference. All in all they are very good pickups that get you into that notorious tele sound. The series/parallel and out of phase switching also produce some very usable tones as well.

In summary this guitar is a must have for any lovers of a good telecaster or just good guitars in general. This guitar is truly awesome and I can't recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a JV modified Tele. You will not regret it!

Excellent guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on January 31, 2023

This guitar is excellent! The build quality on mine was as close to perfect as you can get. Perfectly cut bone nut, tight neck pocket, well-dressed frets, perfect alignment, etc. Fender USA should take a field trip to Japan to see how they do it. I previously owned a performer telecaster made in Corona and the quality was pretty poor. The nut was sharp on the edges and cut poorly, the routing for the bridge pickup was too large so a bit of the hole wasn't covered up by the bridge plate, and the neck needed some sanding to remove rough spots. None of these issues existed with the JV.

The performer sounded great, however. The JV sounds great too, but a little brighter and "chimier", which I've learned to prefer. The neck pickup in particular sounds great to me. I don't use the phase switch at all, but others may like it. The neck shape is different from the usual C shape, but it's easy to adapt to.

Oh, and forget all the nonsense online about basswood being an inferior tonewood. My guitar sounds great and it's light too. But just be aware that it's softer than ash or alder so it's easier to ding.

There's a lot of completion in this price range, but I'm glad I bought mine. It's a well-made guitar.

Samurai sword not an axe

Just bought it, this guitar sings, I can find so many tones on it, it really sticks out in the mix without having to turn up volume, the neck melts in my hand. I have many guitars and this is my new favorite

Great telecaster

By Sweetwater Customer on May 3, 2022

I just love the look and feel of this guitar. The binding makes it stand out a bit from the other Telecasters and the gold speckle adds a real nice finish to the mix. Pick one up if you can, you will be happy with how it sounds/looks

Great tele

By Sweetwater Customer on April 13, 2022

Such a nice guitar. Love the look. Love the feel of the neck. And it sounds great. Love the tone options especially the ability to run the single coils in series to fatten the tone

Inspiring !

By Mark S from IL on March 29, 2022

Been playing a long time and I have to say this guitar has no negatives AT ALL ! Impeccable fretwork, tone and craftsmanship lead to a solid bang for the buck. Owned MIJ and CIJ Teles and Strats over the years… and this one hits it out of the park. No big fan of the push/pull out-of-phase control… just won't use it. She's a beauty, too. Keeper…. Period !

No Doubt; As Sweet as You can Find!

What a cool guitar! Sold my Strat and Blues Jr. to buy this guitar. Smartest move I have made in years !! Next : Champ, then I can die happy.

Fender JV Modified '60s Custom Telecaster Electric Guitar

By Kirk from California on May 5, 2023 Music Background: I'm 65 and have been playing since I was 15. Many bands, many gigs. Rock.

The pros: Beautiful guitar, sounds fantastic. The neck is thick, but I can handle it.

The cons: "Vintage" locking tuners are a pain in the neck. I have some Fender standard locking tuners and
I wanted to put them on my JV Tele, but doing that is a *really* big pain. The peghead holes on the JV are too
small for the Fender standard locking tuners, and there's a bushing in each hole. Would require removal of the bushing, and drilling the hole to make it bigger. One other con: Zero Fender documents came with the guitar.
