Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH - Crimson Red Transparent Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Flame Maple Top, Mahogany Neck, Indian Laurel Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Crimson Red Transparent

You can rock out on a Tele — Jimmy Page proved that. But the Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH takes it to a whole new dimension. A mahogany body topped with eye-popping flame maple delivers a muscular-sounding resonant bite. A pair of high-octane Seymour Duncan humbuckers infuses this Custom Tele with enough vintage-inspired output to thrust your amp into overdrive. It pulls off single-coil tones as well, courtesy of a push-pull coil tap. And this electric guitar's set Indian laurel-capped mahogany neck is built for sustain, speed, and playability. If you're searching for a Tele with a mean streak, you've come to the right place. The Custom Telecaster FMT HH is the right guitar for you.

Great deal for a Rocker guitar!

By Eric James from Colorado High Country on August 24, 2022 Music Background: Funk, jazz, blues, classic rock, 40+ playing, regular gigging.

Glad to see this back. I bought an early 2000's Korean edition. Playability is fantastic, great neck feel. This is the most comfortable and light weight guitar I have ever played. Pick-ups are hot, works very well for rockin' out with gain. A little harsh when playing clean. Unique sound, this guitar does not sound like a telecaster, les paul or SG. Strong value for the price.

Between a flawless build quality (Thanks to skilled Indonesian craftsmen and women),
A superb fretboard, the best pickups that I have ever heard or played, body balance. TONE, any tone You want or can think of, in one guitar, end of search, piece of mind.

Mine's red w/matching red headstock, cream binding, black Open humbuckers. Dead quiet.

Buy One. Be Standout. Look, Sound Different.

Love this!

By A.J. Bustamante from Wildwood, Tx on December 28, 2021

Mine just got here a few hours ago and I can't put it down! It's SOOO lightweight and comfortable. Love all the tones I get out of this guitar paired with my Fender Mustang modeling amp I may just get rid of all my other guitars, lol!
Thanks to Justin Dunn my sales engineer for helping me spec this out just how I wanted it. Literally unboxed it and plugged it in. Great service. I'm a satisfied Sweetwater customer to say the least!

As good as the reviews say it is!

By Sweetwater Customer on August 12, 2021 Music Background: Intermediate

Received the guitar yesterday and it plays beautifully and sounds great. I wanted something that could handle both blues and 80's rock and between the front and back pickup you can get it done! Watched a lot of review videos on this guitar and it sounds better than any I saw. Also watched a review where the neck was described as chunky. It is a 60's C as best as I can tell and definitely not chunky. It says modern C in description but I have several of those and this neck feels smaller to me. The only flaw is the tone knob has zero resistance and will move if touched. Other than that it is flawless. For this price you can not go wrong!!

One of the best guitars ever!

By Vince from IL on July 28, 2021 Music Background: Music lover

Definitely not a typical Tele! I am not a Fender guy at all!! This guitar is amazing. I have over 15 guitars and some cost more than 3,000.00. This is my favorite. Sounds and plays like no other. Seems to be the first guitar I reach for weather I am playing Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, or anything else. If you don't have one , GET ONE! Great guitar for the money and there is some on special this week at THE ONE AND ONLY, SWEETWATER!!!
Ask for Chris, you will not be disappointed in any way! ROCK ON!

Art With Strings

This beauty is my first purchase from Sweetwater. Every stage of my purchase has been awesome. From the 1st interaction with my sales rep to the ordering and delivery of the guitar, my experience has been perfect.

This is a 'weird Fender Tele' to say the least. From the FMT, set neck, binding, Seymour Duncan pickups you have to do a double take to make sure it's a Fender Telecaster. I love the 15" radius neck. It's plays so fast and smooth. I haven't played around with the coil tap much, but the humbuckers sound great. I am looking forward to playing this guitar for years to come.

This Tele is sssswwwweeeeeeeetttt!!!

By Dudley-Doo-Right from California on May 1, 2021 Music Background: Rock, Blues, Country

Thanks to my exceptional sales engineer, Jacob Terhune, I now have this beautiful Fender Telecaster in my arsenal of amazing guitars. This awesome ax sounds incredible, plays so smoothly, and is jaw dropping gorgeous! Thank you Jake and the Sweetwater team. And thank you also for the introduction to your very talented music recordings! Love your sound brother!

This is my baby!

By Luke McDonald on March 26, 2021

The guitar is my baby! I can't tell you how much I cherish this guitar and how much impact it has had on my life. There's so much character in teles but there's something special about this one. It's got amazing tones that you can take pretty much anywhere. I would recommend this guitar to literally anyone!

Sweet little player!

By Greg H from Portland on April 1, 2020 Music Background: Former gigging musician (until I got really old)

I actually owned an early 2000's model that was made in Korea and it was one of the smoothest and easy playing guitars I've ever owned or played. Found it at a pawnshop and paid a ridiculously low price for it. It was in really dirty condition and had been cosmetically neglected, but after some TLC it was awesome. The neck was ridiculously fast and smooth. The overall build was excellent, it was just a gorgeous guitar. Loved the set neck, which was perfect on mine. The MIK version I owned came with stock Fender Atomic II and Fender Black Canyon humbuckers which were pretty good but had so much grime and dirt embedded in them I decided to drop in a set of Hot-Rodded Seymours (SH-4 & SH-2n). Gigged with it for many years playing classic rock and this guitar really delivered! Unfortunately it was lost in a house fire and when I saw that Fender had re-issued them I put one on my Sweetwater Wish List and hope to purchase one summer 2020. Can't wait.

Unbelievable

By Dennis Drap from Merritt, Pamlico NC on June 5, 2019 Music Background: Blues wanna-be 40 yrs

I am not a great player however I felt it necessary to write a review. I only play blues classics in my den for my own amusement. I still have six guitars and have purchased 20 or so over my long life. I actually was not expecting a special guitar when I bought this. For classic blues it blows away every guitar I have ever picked up, I used to go to guitar stores and try all models. In short if you like blues and a extremely easy to play guitar, buy it you won't be sorry. If you don't like cleaning all the time don't get crimson red. Beautiful guitar!!
The photo doesn't do it justice. Barely fits in a Tele type case? It doesn't go out of tune?

Great guitar

By ericbl from North Carolina on April 17, 2019

I love this guitar. It has a true speed neck which is great for soloing. The Seymour Duncan pickups are amazing. I actually like them better than the DiMarzio pickups on my Charvel SoCal. And it's beautiful guitar. In my humble view, it's the best guitar at this price point on the market. It pairs perfectly with my Charvel, which has the Floyd Rose, etc.

Just Buy It

By Sweetwater Customer on March 20, 2019

On the fence about this guitar? Just buy it. The sound is amazing and the set up is perfect from factory. You will love how this guitar sounds and feels. Believe them when they say this isn't your daddy's Telecaster.

Don't question it. Buy it.

By Jason from Iowa on March 2, 2019 Music Background: Guitar

This has become my number one guitar. Coming from a strat to a Tele was a huge jump for me. But this guitar knocks it out of the park.

great deal

By Todd on October 25, 2019 Music Background: Home guitarist of 35 years

This is my 13 year old sons guitar but I love playing it also. He has played it for two years. We also have a Les Paul classic and an american prof. strat and this is still his favorite. It does not sound like a tele and it does not sound like a les paul. If you play it clean it is somewhere in between the two. Definitely not as full as a les paul but not as twangy as a tele. Once you turn on some gain it turns into a rock and roll machine! The pickups are great for classic rock and I can get a decent blues sound from it. The sustain is just crazy with a tube screamer. The pick ups alone make the price of the guitar worth it. The playability is very good. It does stay in tune great and setting it up is very easy. I can get the action set to 4/64 on the bass side and 3/64 on the treble side with no string buzzing!
The frets are finished nicely and I guess the nut is cut properly because there is not any binding of the strings and no buzzing but I have not measured the height because there are no issues. The neck is a little flat for my taste( 15.75" radius) but definitely comfortable to play. The crimson red does look great. I will say that the pick up selector switch felt a little whimpy and we actually had it replaced under warranty because it wasn't working properly. The new one feels a little better but still not as solid feeling as my other two guitars. Don't let that discourage you from buying it. For the price of the guitar you could always replace the switch.

It's a keeper, with one thing to know.

By Sweetwater Customer on January 9, 2022

From top to bottom a nice player. Electonics are sweet, very nice tones. One nit pick, the tuners are the size from a squier and Fender lockers which go on all my fenders would not fit without redrilling the pin holes. the tuners seem to be of better quality than Squiers and were adequate but aftermarket lockers with mounting plates are even better. Love the lightness compared to standard teles. Made by Cort factory in Indonesia I believe, the quality is great for this price. Dave N.

Great for the money

By Steve Brown from Camp Verde, AZ on April 9, 2020 Music Background: Over 50 years as a hobby guitarist.

It is very good looking with quality fit, finish, and detail. A warmer, less twangy sound. Two things that I personally like to se on this instrument is tone/volume knob for each pickup (I will probably replace the stock pots with dual pots to achieve more contrast between the pickups) and when you pull the tone knob for single coil, it significantly reduces gain.

Fender in 1954 was ahead of its time the same as a Porsche 911 in 1963 that created historic form of classic ergonomic design that is used in the 21st century. This guitar uses Les Paul's humbucker design pickups from the fifties. It has the ergonomic design set Fender began in the 50s and the humbucker electronics that Les Paul design in the 50s. So it has an ergonomically body with the non feedback advantages of the humbucker pas. It is very reasonably priced for the price range to give you the comfort of a fender body and the basic electronic sounds of a humbucker Wow saving money on the fingerboard with reliable tuners for a working guitar. It is attractive with a durable polyurethane finish. So if you want A-Reliable middle range guitar that a virtuoso guitarists can get great sounds out of or a beginner or working musician for playing clubs this guitar will hold up and give you a reliable instrument 4 about the same price as a high-end Epiphone that is made in the 21st century that has been design for the average guitarist. The neck is a compromise between a thinner easy to grasp Stratocaster but not as big as a Gibson with medium jumbo frets. The guitar will give you a good sustain and the shape of the neck will not fret out for stretching the strings and will stay in tune throughout 20 to 45 minute Jam. Jimmy Page demonstrated that the basic Fender design of the Telecaster a smoke with a proper amplifiers, pedals and mixing board. 90% of the Led Zeppelin albums murder recorded with a reliable Telecaster in a recording booth and was able to control any feedback problems on stage. Stairway to Heaven begins with a acoustic guitar and then he changes 2 a custom dual neck SG with a six string neck on the bottom and a 12-string neck on the top for the Epic song If they refuse to allow to be cut as a single that last 4/8 minutes into seconds. I have been playing for over 48 years and this is a sturdy reliable guitar oh, but it has not for me. I have a collection of guitars that I used for various purposes and if you have the money and it was worth investing in classic electric guitars particularly made from 1954 1964.

You expect more from Fender.

By Don from darlington, SC on April 25, 2022 Music Background: 64 Year Old semi-pro, Playing since before first grade

First of all, the guitar was beautiful and sounded great when played through several tube amps including a nice Fender. However, it would not stay in tune at all. I spent as much time tuning as playing (exaggerated a little maybe.) I know it's only an $ guitar, but I expected more out of a Fender. Maybe it would be a nice guitar for a beginner or intermediate player that needs the extra practice in tuning. Sweetwater staff was great on the return, I like them and have bought several items from them before and after but the guitar is what it is (and maybe I got a lemon.)
